This was one of the best meals I've ever had!!! Although a bit out of the way I highly recommend.

I'be been to Dante'sKitchen several times. I know the menu items pretty well. During my last visit, I debated between two entrees and asked to server for advice. He recommended the pork shoulder and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. It was scrumptous and filling!

All the dishes we enjoyed blended creative ingredients that complemented each other beautifully. Started with the braised beef cheeks appetizer which had a nice robust flavor and wonderfully tender meat without being heavy. I had the Local Farm Vegetable Plate which even my beef eating date thought was delicious. There were so many fresh favors on my plate to taste it was hard to put down my fork. His Trois Mignons was quite good but the amount of the homemade Worcestershire sauce on the meat and bed of mashed potatoes was somewhat overwhelming. The pecan cake was an interesting choice but a little on the dry side. However the creme brûlée for dessert was all that it should be; smooth, not too sweet, and the perfect melted sugar crust.

I came from Jacksonville to visit and your resteraunt was one of the high points of my trip I would highly recomend your wonderful place

outside the french quarter
Escape the French Quarter and take a short drive to this out of the way, neighborhood gem. Inventive, interesting food with many choices. The punch of the day was great too! There's a genius mixologist in this little house turned restaurant. We sat on the front porch which was very relaxing and beautiful. There is a busier road near the restaurant but the traffic noise was not bothersome.

wow factor, this place has it all.
This was a stellar experience. Best over all meal I've had in quite some time.
Cocktail: No-parts. Get yo'self one, or a few.
App: Mussels, bleu cheese, bacon, onions. Need I say more.
Small plates: Oxtails with mole and cilantro.
Braised Beef Cheeks, herbed spatzel. Outstanding.
Entrée: Roasted Whole Fish. Redfish. Bread crumbs, fried sliced garlic, israeli couscous, olives, tomatoes. This fish is one of the single best dishes I have ever eaten. Clean, bright, simple, fresh.
Dessert: Brown Butter Creme Brulee. And the award for best creme brulee ever goes too... Yeah, it was that good.
Notable: house-made sambuca. well done.
Why should you care what I think? Because I have been in the restaurant industry for 15 years.

Dante's is a favorite of mine for brunch and I figured dinner would be just as delicious. I was not disappointed. I ordered the lamb shank. I was a little taken a little aback when the waiter came by to drop to steak knives and I was not given one. I quickly realized why I was not given a steak knife. The meat literally fell off of the bone as soon as I touched it with my fork. My boyfriend ordered the whole fish and that was fantastic as well. The other diners in my party ordered the trois mignon (amazing) and the chicken under a brick. All of our dishes were fantastic! I knew how large their servings were so we skipped apps. We also had a round of the punch. The service and food was amazing! I highly recommend Dante's for brunch or dinner

There are so many places to eat in MOLA but this is our favorite. Fresh local cuisine, well prepared without all the pomp and circumstance of a fancy restaurant. Friendly wait staff makes the meal that much better. Oh, and the handcrafted unique cocktails are good too!

High quality pricey food
I think the meal was really excellent. We had eaten at Commander's the day before, and to be honest the food quality was completely on par!!! The prices were on par as well, so do consider that.
My cocktail was unique in flavor but also somewhat weak; however, the wine list was expansive enough to make up for this. The cornbread brought with the meal was an excellent touch. My only complaint is that our waiter was a bit pushy - trying to persuade us to order more appetizers and dessert. I appreciate the attentiveness but would advise him to tone it down.
Overall, great ambiance! I will definitely be back

Worth the trek
From French Quarter, took an hour by streetcar and bus, but glorious garden district views and good people watching. Waitress was fun and knowledgeable; wine was good, charcuterie divine, seafood courtbouillon delicious. Husband liked the beef cheeks and oxtail (see menu for details).

Great Food, Ask to sit outside
The food at Dante's Kitchen was fantastic, we had the Seafood Courtbouillon, Grilled Beef Heart, and Roasted Beets. The roasted beets are great - my favorite part of the meal. Service was very good, especially considering how busy our waiter was (we appreciated that). The only qualm was the room we were seated in was at the back of the restaurant, near the kitchen, in a bright blue room with music that was not exactly fitting for the type of meal we were expecting. I would recommend requesting a to sit in the main part of the house or outside (the patio looks very cozy!). Overall a great experience.

A gem found in Uptown NeOrleans
Dante's Kitchen is a mellow and welcoming spot. Well be back!
5/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu was varied and several of the dishes were quite unique and tasty! I really liked the atmosphere of the place and the decor. It's a quaint and comfy restaurant.

Lovely place...a friend in Maryland told me about it....the food was very good and the restaraunt itself was very quaint and elegant!
Everyone was very nice, our orders arrived promptly! I would send anyone to this place! Great overall experience.

The venison pot pie was outstanding
The venison pot pie was outstanding as was the scallops with beets(who knew beets and scallops could taste so good). My wife loved the steak.

Delicious and vegan-friendly
My family was visiting, and I wanted to give my foodie niece a great meal here. I'd heard so much about Dante's, but had never been. I was sure she'd like it, and that was my main goal (she had the lamb shank and loved it, btw). But I'm strict veggie, and that's put a damper on my dining experiences when I've gone to NO foodie restaurants. Not the case here at all, and the attention paid to the vegetables and tofu plate was obvious. The flavor was very thoughtful, blending some lovely veggies, spices, sauce, and nuts into a knock-out total. For dessert, she had their strawberry upside down cake and gave it a big thumbs up. I had their sorbet selection and it was also a winner. My niece came away very impressed, and I was more than pleased!

Great unique place to eat
Great unique place to eat in New Orleans! Open Table was a fabulous opportunity to share a great meal with close friends.
5/31/2013 4:00:00 PM
great spot outside the Quarter
If you're visiting NOLA and looking to get outside the French Quarter for a great meal, go to Dante's. Take the streetcar -- it's a beautiful ride.

Fantastic food and service.
Fantastic food and service. A great experience everyone should try.
6/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had an excellent dinner here while on an orientation visit for our son who is enrolling at Tulane. For starters we shared a cajun shrimp and grits dish and a panzanella salad which were both excellent. For entrees we had chicken under a brick with a maple sauce which was very well prepared and rich, and a Myanmar style fish dish and a whole fish that were both great. The wine list is quite interesting, not overly expensive, and has a nice mix of wines from several different countries. One of the wait staff knew the list well and was helpful in recommending something to our liking. We did not have dessert but what came out to other tables looked inviting. I would highly recommend Dante's Kitchen.

Passionate about Dante's Kitchen
When my husband and I want to eat out, we think of Dante's Kitchen first. Thanks for being so wonderful!
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Some of the Best Food I have had in NOLA. Our party of three ordered a bunch of the small plates and they were all delicious.

No need to shout...
Dante's Kitchen has an eclectic menu, which sets it apart from most Uptown bistros - incorporates imaginative, interesting, sometimes bizarre combinations. Not the usual 'Blackened Creole Gumbo' tourist fare.
A friendly staff, and best of all, you can hear each other speak without having to shout - either to the wait-staff or your dining companions. Dante's Kitchen is unique to New Orleans and a real gem for us locals.
7/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Unique in a City of the Unusual
You'll never just find this place unless you search it out. Off River Rd in the Uptown Triangle this place has great craft cocktails, make their own infused liqueurs, great wine list and unusual menu offerings. Try the Chicken Under a Brick. Or the Trois Mignons - 3 little steaks with 3 different flavors
Fun off beat place for small parties in a little old house.

We loved Dante's Kitchen.
We loved Dante's Kitchen. A friend had recommended the place as an alternative to our usual Jacques Imo's dinners. Both of our dinners were awesome. I got the Chicken Roasted Under a Brick and my hubby got the filet. We also tried two of the house meats apps which were different and very good. Hubby loved his sazerac and our waiter was very attentive. We'll be back for sure.

This is our second visit from Dallas, Texas to Dante's Kitchen. Love the Food!! The Shrimp and Grits!! The Corn Bread!! The Wine Selection! The location!! Everything.....we will return every August every year if not sooner.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
a NOLA favorite for me.
We discovered this place by accident during our last visit and came back in hopes that it was really that good. It is. The food is creatively prepared and presented. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the ambience is great both in and outside. I recommend Dante's to all...locals and visitors.

Not invited to the party
Our meal started out great. It was a slow night. Our waitress was very nice & professional. The food was delicious. The down side was the party of 20 people who slowly gathered at the bar, right next to where we were seated. The party moved to the back room and that's when our waitress disappeared. We had finished our entrees and our bottle of wine. We sat there looking around for our waitress who we hadn't seen in over 15 min. Several staff members had congregated around the bar, hanging out, oblivious to us. My husband had to get up from our table, walk over and ask what happened to our waitress. They apologized, cleared our table. I know this was out of the ordinary but I felt it could have been manged better. Sour end to a lovely meal.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of the first New Orleans restaurants I went to after I moved here. I have been back many times since. We had visitors from out of town and Dante's was on the short list of places to take them.

A Required Stop in New Orleans
Dante's serves high-end New Orleans cuisine from a funky and unpretentious house on a residential street in Uptown. A skilled mixologist crafts specialty cocktails, and each meal starts with a skillet of warm maple spoon bread. The menu changes frequently, but look for the Trois Mignons or the chicken under a brick. The wine list has many great values, and the service is welcoming and friendly. We visit each time we're in New Orleans.

Really fun spot
The are an embarrassment of riches in New Orleans, but I loved this small restaurant for its great food and lively feel.
Terrific outdoor garden as well, even though it was a bit rainy when were re there.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved the Food!
This is the second time I have been to Dante's and it was just as good as the first time. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, and was able to speak to the chef about a few tweaks for our family's gluten intolerance. There were many choices on the menu that fit out diet guidelines as well as the tastes of our family.
Every meal was delicious and we enjoyed the seasonal cocktail menu as well. We plan to go back to try the cheeses and house cured meats on the outside patio!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Out of the way locale, comfy environment, not stuffy or over fancy, not touristy. Delicious and reasonably priced dinner. Fresh and local ingredients. A real treat.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Dante's was the real deal foodies!
I took a group on business to Dante's and the food was outstanding. Whole fish; Duck Breast, Filets a Trois -- were all winners; there were no losers. It was all in the preparation, simply above the average bear....
The spoon bread in the little pans was a wonderful opener that everyone enjoyed.
Dante's is Unique and a bit off the bit track but well worth it!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, and not problematic getting a reservation at a reasonable time the day before.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Why didn't I come here sooner??
My husband and I came to Dante's for our anniversary. My husband is a vegetarian. They were very accomodating, and have a vegetarian entree. Most restaurants only provide vegetarian sides dishes. The atmosphere was romantic and calm. The service was spot on at every moment, and the food was spectacular. If there were any misses, it was perhaps the kale side - it was a little busy, with too many additional vegetables in the mix. Kale is best when more simply prepared, IMHO. Overall, wonderful experience.

Dante's Delivers, Again
As out-of-town visitors to New Orleans we enjoy getting out into the neighborhoods and trying new restaurants. We have been coming back to Dante's Kitchen every time we have been in NOLA since '07. Food is consistently very good to excellent, service never fails, and the dining rooms in the old cottage are wonderful to be in. If the weather is good the patio is great as is the front porch.

What a Night
What a beautiful time we had. The ambiance was charming, the food was outstanding...every bite was a treat to the tastebuds./

The Whole Fish entrée was excellent! The Dragon Beans (a new vegetable for my wife and me) were a real treat.

Did not disappoint
We had a great meal at Dante's on our last trip to New Orleans, so we were eager to return. Dante's delivered, with two great dishes. I had the trios mignons, which was outstanding, and my wife, who has been trying duck at many restaurants over the last couple of years, put Dante's duck in her top 3. This place is a gem in the St. Charles/Carrollton area.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
chicken on a brick
chicken on a brick was incredible. great pepper syrup sauce. get it.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
The dishes are delicious but
The dishes are delicious but ample in size. I felt that the server "sold me up" a bit when he said the sides were not that large and only sufficient for one person. Other than that, it's a wonderful place.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best in NOLA so far
I'm slowly eating my across NOLA and, so far, Dante's Kitchen is my favorite. Also, the bartender knows what he is doing. The whole experience was impressive.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dante's - WOW!
My wife and I had dinner at Dante's Kitchen on 11/15/13. We were there to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary, and this restaurant did not disappoint! I had the chicken under a brick, which was delicious. I rarely order chicken when eating out, but I was glad that I did this time. My wife had the drum, which was wonderful also.
If you are looking for a nice place that is a little bit away from the hustle of the French Quarter give Dante's a try.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Loved this restaurant! Have
Loved this restaurant! Have been to New Orleans many times and wanted something new. Shrimp and grits appetizer probably the best we have ever had - including many other well known restaurants in New Orleans and Charleston. Interesting menu - not the typical New Orleans fare. Only down side was the cab ride from Bourbon Street in the French Quarter was nearly $20 each way.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Love a place that features veggies
We picked this restaurant because a review said there was imaginative use of vegetables. Loved the dragon beans, new to me, and my husband's vegetable plate was varied and fun. Only comment is that too many of the vegetable-centric dishes also included meat, especially pork products. Wine list is well chosen.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best Meal Ever!
My husband and I come to New Orleans every year, mostly for the food. We first ate at Dante's last New Year's Eve and it was spectacular....so much so that it is a permanent fixute on our list of must eats while in town. Their "chicken under a brick" is simply the best meal we have ever eaten, anywhere in the world.
