The food is great, the ambiance excellent, the wait staff top notch, the crowd upscale without being overly trendy. This place has stood the test of time and never disappoints. My only complaint is that the tables are so close together that if the person sitting on the banquette side is on the larger than 100 lbs it's extremely difficult and intrusive to the table next to you to get in and out.

Consistently good flavors
I have been many times and have always been happy with the service and the food has been very good. I'm always leery of pre-theater menus but there are so many choices on that menu that all three of our party ordered from it. We all enjoyed our selections including Thai dumplings and spring rolls for appetizers and Cornish hen, salmon, and vegetable curry for entrees. We dined very early because we were headed to the Public but were not rushed at all by the charming and professional staff.

I have beencoming to Indochine for over 20 years and have always emjoyed myself. Great vibe, great food really nice staff. It went from ueber cool trendy to a little bit post theatre in this time but they kept the level of the food and the general feeling up.

Good food and great service
Just a great place I would recommend to anyone. Can be a bit noisy but the food and service is so good that you don't notice.

Gorgeous NYC Institution
We had a lovely meal here. Great food. Fantastic drinks. Wait staff was perfect -- and gorgeous. Highly memorable experience.

The grilled salmon was too grilled... The other plates were gorgeous, delicious!!

Being very picky with reservation requests (my boyfriend is not). I was pleasantly surprised they accomodate our requests.
We had a great time: food, service and ambience.

Had a great time. The service and the food were both amazing!

I have been a fan for many
I have been a fan for many years and have loved everything about it: food, ambience, beauty and charm of staff.

This is my second time here and it never disappoints. I love the pan asian style of this food. We started with the crabcakes and they were delicious and so was the sauce that came with it. The shrimp was spicy, but that didn't bother me. My friend asked for hers to be less spicy and they were very accommodating.

Across the street from the Public
This little gem would be great anywhere. We went on a Sunday evening so it was quiet. Had the pre-theatre special. My discriminating sweetheart enjoyed the food and so did I. Ambience is top notch and romatic. The service is not the greatest however. Used to be very trendy, still very popular so go on an off night

My friend took me here, and I made reservation through open table. Although I was late due to work, they were nice enough to seat us right away. The service was great. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Food were delicious and drinks were also good. I love their iced coffee with espresso coffee ice cubes! The sea bass was melt-in-your-mouth good! Appetizers were good portioned that we were almost full when the entrees came. Overall experience was great, and can't wait to come back here!

Indochine was highly recommended from a friend and what a pleasant surprise when i walked in. Refreshing from your typical NYC restaurant. It was unique and fun and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the yellowtail appetizers, outstanding!
6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was perfect, the fish soup was really exceptional, but the rest of our choices too. Very attractive menu, difficult to choose. Harmonious and beautiful room, beautiful staff, specially the waiters. Nothing to complain about

Delicious food, nice and vibrant place, we'll be definetely back

This is the second time Batman and Robin have been to Indochine. The food is Vietnamese with a bit of French touch. The seating is largely the banquette style with tables close to each other. That's the part we don't like. But the ambience in general is stylish and "soft focus". We were able to park the Batmobile on both occaisons...but then it was a Sat night in the summer each time. Likewise we found the noise level to be moderate to low (but again it is the Summer). Besides location, location, location (across from Public theatre) we think the food is A plus. So did the sophisticated couple we brought with us. Drinks were good too with enough liquor in them. Service was good but then again it was not that crowded (Summer)

Across from The Public Theatre
The perfect place for dining before and after seeing a play at The Public, which is right across the street, Indochine has a lovely pre-theatre menu as well as a nice choice of dishes big and small. The two of us chose four appetizers and had more than enough food. The presentation was perfect and we enjoyed our delicious meal, served promptly in time for our theatre-going by a friendly and efficient wait staff. The prices seem quite reasonable for a restaurant that feels so upscale. Good for post-theatre dinner, too, or drinks anytime in the nice bar area. Since we had a 7pm curtain at The Public, we were at the restaurant when it opened at 5:30, so it was quiet enough to talk. I don't know what the noise level is when it's full.

7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
alas the noise
Great food and service, but noise level prohibited me from giving my wife a cute noisy birthday card. A bit hard to hear conversation. Server was wonderful. Seems to attract a young crowd.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good service, nice crowd, great food, special cocktails, interesting presentation.
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love love love
I really loved the food here! In Indochine´s great ambiance we enjoyed a three course meal which all were very rich in flavors. Highly recommend the spicy beef salad.

Lovely RW Find
Found out about this restaurant because of Restaurant Week and had a lovely time with my date! Highly recommend it for any date night with a special someone. They were very accommodating, quick to serve, and friendly. We told them that we had a movie to go see at 8:00 P.M. that evening and they got us in and out of the restaurant in about an hour.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went during restaurant week and chose to order off that menu. Usually restaurant week menus are not great but everything on Indochine's menu was outstanding. There were a lot of choices for both appetizers and entrees and the portions were more than generous. Atmosphere and service were also great. Highly recommend this restaurant.

A reason to eat out in NY
Third time there in 2 years and this was the best of 3 good expereinces.
Ironically the best meals were during restaurant week and the one time we paid double price (regular price) it wasn't as good. But really, it's one of our top 3 restaurants to go to in Manhattan. Last night Aug 2 2013 was so good I almost could have stopped with the appetizer. They don't cheat on portion size either. Maybe the most fun part is seeing what the waitresses and waiters are wearing- each wears their own clothes, any number of versions of downtown chic and very multiethnic. Spicey hanger steak, catfish -- clean and luscious, crispy bean curd with pea shoots were the most outstanding. While not a place for little kids, tee

Everithing was amaizing!! Our waitress out did herself she really was incredibly nice and all their staff too!! I really loved it! Abd the food was amazing as well as the drinks!

Indochine is one of the rare NYC gems that's been around for over two decades and still has a great crowd, food and overall great time!
8/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Birthday dinner was a blast!
The restaurant is a great as the last time I was here 20 years ago. Everything was delicious, with one exception...the mixed drinks weren't up to par at all. Service was wonderful, and try the coconut creme brulee...YUM!!
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious...and huge portions!
Indochine was fantastic. The Restaurant week menu was unusually varied with many options. We were shocked that the portions were so enormous, and everything was really delicious. We're pretty picky eaters, but we relished every bite.
We're looking forward to our next visit.

Always Dependably Superb
Indocine is unique. It's cuisine is especially so. It defies any conventional categorization. I've been there many times and each time I return I'm always surprised at just how wonderful the experience is.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall experience was very
Overall experience was very good, with excellent but not intrusive service and menu choice and quality of food very good.
Specifically, the summer rolls, spicy shrimp, wild sea bass and sides of roasted shaved brussel sprouts and sticky rice were excellent. The sea bass in particular, was beautifully cooked in a very light consommé.
Deserts were slightly disappointing. The coconut creme brûlée needed the coconut ramped up and the coffee plus sour cherry granite just didn't work with the coffee cake, it being too watery and the flavor slightly odd.
That being said, we won't take long before we come back, the latter criticism being easily fixed.

long time favorite
We have been going to Indochine for years, and have never been disappointed. This time I took 2 sophisticated teen aged grandsons, before the Blue Man Group, and we all thought the meal was wonderful. Especially the lemon tart.

Yes, Indochine has been around for a while, but it is still a WOW restaurant on all levels: food, service, ambiance. We love this place!

Delicious Vietnamese Crab
Delicious Vietnamese Crab Cakes with a touch of fish sauce. Their version of Amok Cambodgien was amazing! Definitely felt like I was back in Southeast Asia!

A terrific all-round experience
A little on the expensive side, but worth every penny...and then some. The food was interesting and delicious; the service friendly and professional. The space is beautiful. A perfect evening.

A friend of mine took for the first time a few years back and I've been going ever since! Simply amazing!

I've been going here for many
I've been going here for many years. I remember the tables were a little less crowded together and the food a bit better. Also the people were a little more happening but it is still a nice place with descent food.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
before-theatre and after-theatre
the food is fabulous .. staff friendly and attentive in spite of it being so busy .. it's a great dining option if going to the Public Theater .. it is more quiet before shows and positively bustling late-night
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
What is about a decor of banana leaves that makes a place just about perfect….the Beverly Hills Hotel coffee shop, the finally gone Balinese Room in Galveston, the old Luau in Los Angeles? Indochine maintains and sustains. The place is just terrific to go to often and for years now. The food is terrific then and now. There isn't another long lasting restaurant downtown that I can think of that is one that can be visited early and late and often. Thanks and congrats In days past, .Rauschenberg and Warhol treated it like a great hangout in my mind's eye I still see them sitting…Bob in a booth and Andy at a long table with entourage right at the front. Congrats.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Still good after all these years
I hadn't been here for a long time. The food was very well prepared and interesting. The pretheatre dinner was a very good deal at $35. Certainly one should eat here if going to the Public and should go anyway for imaginative eats.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Two key things to order
Steamed Sea bass and Steamed Raviolis are a MUST!! Hasn't lost a step after all these years.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth the price!
From the great drinks to dessert everything was delicious. However, the dinner was more special than the desserts. The spicey beef salad was terrific. Nice atmosphere and a fabulous meal. Expensive, but worth it.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Indochine, better than ever
I had a very satisfactory dinner with two friends before a show at the Public. The atmosphere is more colonial French than Asian but the food we shared provided all my favorite Vietnamese flavors; A crispy shrimp, steamed Vietnamese ravioli, grilled egg plant for hors d'oeuvres and two wonderful salads, spicy beef and Asian greens. Everything looked beautiful and tasted fresh. We all agreed to we look forward to returning with more time and a bigger appetite.

Oldie but Goodie
Haven't been here in years--Happy to discover food is better, and service as good as in the past--there at a quiet time (early) so the more likely noisy crowd hadn't arrived yet-- but the tables appear to be further apart, so the intensity must be lowered--
