I brought a group of six men to Grasing's during a golf trip to Pebble Beach. The food, service, and ambience were superior. The wine list was outstanding, though pricey. But, we were in Carmel so this was no surprise. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

peach and black berry crisp
Dessert would have been more enjoyable with more fruit and less topping.

We were staying on Carmel for 3 weeks and had friends coming to town for just one night who asked to go to a nice, quiet place to dine. We chose Grasing's! We were greeted warmly, seated immediately (we had reservations), and the expert service commenced! The waitstaff all wear white shirts and ties, and act accordingly, without being stuffy. Everyone ordered something different and we all raved about our meals. One guest ordered the abalone salad......"amazing"! My 6oz. filet was cooked to perfection and could be cut with a fork! Would we recommend Grasing's? YOU BET!

Great wine list. Great service.

Love at first bite
Just absolutely love Grasing's. Delicious food, fine service and quaint decor are just a few of the words to describe Grasing's. They do an excellent job of pleasing their customers from the moment that you arrive until you walk out the door, you get personal attention. All I can say is go if you can.

Great food and service but....
We ordered steak with a side of lobster and roasted chicken. Both were cooked perfectly, pleasantly presented, and quite flavorful. The wine list was excellent and had a very good selection of single glasses as well.
The only negative was the place is small and the tables literally are only 6 inches away from each other. It made for a very crowded feeling and definitely conversation could be heard by those to either side. Fortunately, our next door table was taken by a very nice couple who, like us, just took it in stride. But it did make the seating awkward if you had to get up. There was no way of accomplishing that without disturbing the table next to you.

Sunday Brunch with bottomless Mimosa's. Most of the people we talked to didn't even know they served brunch. $20 was a steal!

Eaten there many times. Always enjoy it. Too noisy at times as it was this past visit. I hate to ask my wife to keep repeating herself. The food is always a treat.

I've been to the restaurant
I've been to the restaurant many times and I love the food. The one negative about the restaurant is that the servers and bus people
really push specific waters or appetizers or expensive entrees, etc. Personally, I just ignore them but it does get tiresome. Other than that, the service is very good.

Kurt Grasing has a great reputation in Carmel among foodies and always delivers to his reputation. I have been to Grasings several times, for lunch and dinner, for fun, dates, and for business. I have never disappointed and the staff has a great way of treati g each occasion as it is meant to be. Food is always superb: fresh, flavorful, and creative. The appetizers are really small plates -- main dishes are large and can be shared. The wine list is not huge but quite good and will satisfy wine lovers. I look forward to my next visit.

Monterey County Favorite
Before even stepping foot inside the door, the Grasing's hostess was at the curb opening our car door & enthusiastically welcoming our small group. Inside the restaurant is cozy and just as inviting as the staff. The extensive wine list would be fun to linger over while enjoying anyone of the bottles listed. Wines by the glass, as well as a nice offering of beers also are available. The food was just fabulous. Our meals included a delicate parsley pasta & artichoke heart lasagna, mushroom glazed sea bass over a type of navy bean & vegetable rag-out and pork medallions with roasted peaches. The quality of the food is equally matched by the attentive, friendly wait staff. My new favorite Monterey County restaurant.

After getting past the attitude of the host at the door who could not find our reservation (perhaps he was frustrated with 2 extremely busy weeks with the Concourse and shouldn't every place have that problem) he finally listened to the name and found it. I believe our servers name was Paula who was adorable, knew her menu and specials and suggested a few items. Friendly, excellent service and the food every time we go there is amazing. A real treat.

enjoyable atmosphere, with great food and good service. We particularly enjoyed the ability to have "small plates" of various items on the menu. Loved the onion tart and abalone. Would recommend for fine dining.

We had a very good meal in pleasant surroundings. We enjoyed celebrating our anniversary there and discovered that we were sitting next to another couple celebrating their anniversary!

Acceptable, not great
Had a nice dinner, service was good, most of the dishes were good, but expected more from the 9oz filet for $48. It wasn't that great of cut, which my server acknowledged after I had finished. Good, not great, and frankly for the price not totally worth it. Having said that, I will probably go back and give them a second chance in the future.

We were after the lunch "crowd", so it was very quiet and pretty empty. Food was excellent, while service was sometimes slow. Very nice atmosphere.

Great find in downtown Carmel!
We had a wonderful time at the bar and finished it up with an amazing dinner in the dining room. Service, food, and ambiance was just perfect! Would go back in a moment!

The food was delicious. They had dished that many
Italian restaurants don't even offer.
I will make a point of going back the next time
I am in Carmel.

The abalone appetizer is delicious
The abalone appetizer is delicious and it comes presented on it's beautiful shell. The restaurant will wrap up the shell so you can have a souvenir. The bread is warm and tasty. The steak was amazing! The lobster Mac n cheese was not our favorite. Overall, this restaurant was outstanding to us and we would go again.

Second time's a charm
We went back to Grasing's and it was just as terrific as the last time. Our waiter, Damon was extremely informed about the wines and picked the perfect wine for our dinner. The food, like last time was delicious and the entire staff of the restaurant was top notch. Much attention paid to every customer in the restaurant. Wonderful choice for dinner in Carmel. They also have an outdoor patio for lunch, which we will have to try.

Always a pleasure at Grasings
First time having dinner there after many brunches and lunches. The food (e.g. artichoke cake appetizer which tasted great and had a texture similar to a crab cake, scallops with artichokes entree) were excellently prepared as well as unique (have not had before or or uniquely prepared). Dessert was great as was the hidden gem which chose to drink (don't miss that part of the wine list). Service was very attentive keeping our champagne glasses filled as well as our water glasses and providing more bread with our meal). We will definitely go back.

My wife and I went to Grasing's
My wife and I went to Grasing's to celebrate her birthday. When we arrived, the table had been decorated to acknowledge her birthday, and there was a card from the restaurant team -- a nice touch. The bone in filets were very tender, and the Yukons and veggies that were with them made for a nice main course. And the appetizer figs, along with the salads were excellent. Service was attentive, so very good. All in all, a nice meal and celebration. Would definitely go back the next time we are in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

TRULY GREAT RESTAURANT
This restaurant is the real deal. Meal was spectacular. Food great. Quality and presentation were exceptional. The bone-in filet was exceptional and duck was the best I ever had. Service was good, not intrusive but attentive. I think it's the best restaurant in Carmel. The wine list was pricey.

Grasings is a Must
Grasings was one of the best restaurants my husband and I have been to. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and the ambience was perfect, food was fabulous and the service was exceptional. Wine list is a bit overwhelming, but maybe not for the wine connoisseurs. We will definitely return.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
A dead Red
After opening a bottle of Zinfandel, we let the wine breath only to find it had turned. Without any issues it was replaced with another. I felt badly but the restaurant was more than accommodating with us and made the dinner great.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Bottomless mimosas with great food and service. A hidden gem in Carmel. Doesn't show up on their website. Heard about it from a server in one of the tasting rooms. Sweet!
9/14/2013 5:00:00 PM
I had noted on my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived, there was birthday-themed "confetti" on the table, and a hand written birthday greeting from Chef/Owner Kurt Grasing...,and, of course, a candle on our shared desert! Really nicely done, but not over-the-top!
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
aces all around
Traveling with a dog can make dining difficult, but not at Grasing's, where a large and inviting patio seats dog lovers and their canine friends. The food was excellent, I had a shrimp and pasta dish that had plenty of shrimp, and veggies and the right amount of pasta. Tasty, presented well, and the waiter was perfect. Just interested enough in my dining habits to be there when i needed him yet not overly clingy. The patio on its own was delightful and a reason to return. But even if you don't have a dog you will enjoy your fine dinner here, inside or out.

Perfect for our Anniversary!
In a romantic town, Grasings is a romantic restaurant and we choose it for our 33rd wedding anniversary dinner. It did not disappoint. From our being greeted by the hostess with anniversary congratulations, to being seated at a premiere table festively decorated with glitter and card, to attentive service throughout and wonderful food and wines, the evening could not have been more perfect. We visit Carmel from Santa Barbara and Grasings is always on our list!

Good Food, Nice People
My wife and I went to Grasing's and we enjoyed everything about our experience. The Ahi Tuna appetizer was some of the best sushi grade tuna we've had -- fantastic. I had the sea bass and she had the Halibut special, both of which were outstanding. They have a very complete wine list and the wait staff was very attentive. Dessert was also excellent. Go and enjoy.

Worth a 17-Mile Drive
Excellent service, friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. Abalone was outstanding and the calamari with leeks was superb. Lengthy list of very good wines by the glass. Cute and quiet terrace for al fresco lunch. A beautiful experience.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pricey, but worth it
We enjoyed everything about Grasing's and would definitely return when we are back in Carmel.

The steaks we had were excellent and the creamed spinach rivaled Lawry's.

Grasing's is the Best in Carmel
Have dined here a ton of times and it is simply the best that Carmel has to offer. We dined on Ahi tuna tartare, grilled artichoke with crab salad, veal chop and a delicious special -- grilled cod on a bed of Chanterelle mushrooms and bok choy. Everything was delicious and the fall weather perfect. The best wine to go with all was the Kosta Browne Gaps Crown Pinot Noir. Our Wheaten Terrier joined us and dined on grilled chicken breast!

Grazing at grazing
Dog friendly Carmel is the best. Grazing has a place for everyone. Bar, fine dining, outdoor dog friendly patio. Fabulous friendly service. Fabulously crafted food cooked to perfection. Order anything on the menu.
10/16/2013 5:00:00 PM
I had a tomato and crab cold soup and lamb shank with smashed potatoes with carrots’ and asparagus. The vegetables were perfectly cooked. The smashed potatoes had little bits of potatoes. The cold tomato soup with crab was excellent. The smashed potatoes were the best ever. Grasing's took time out to make our table special for our 30th anniversary. The placed little hearts all over our tablecloth it was such a nice touch. Bob had grilled fish and a soup. He said it was excellent. For dessert I had a chocolate martini that was the perfect desert.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a wonderful dinner. No one rushed up. We got to visit all we could with our BFFs.

Food was quite good and had a romantic atmosphere. Be prepared to drop a few bucks.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best bone in filet in town. Excellent wine list and service. Three areas of the restaurant include:
1. White table cloth section /very romantic
2. Fun bar area/great for locals and tourists alike
3. Outside eating area under twinkling lights/excellent for dog owners

Great food and service at Grasing's
This is a place that always does things right whether one goes there for brunch, lunch, dinner, or just drinks and appetizers. The food is always tasty. The service is friendly but not overly so and present but not hovering. It all adds up to a delightful dining experience. I plan on returning to Grasing's many times.

One of Carmel's Best
Grassing's is a great restaurant. Fantastic food, great service, and great atmosphere. Can't say enough about Grassing's.

Fun evening with special attention
Fun evening with special attention from the house staff. Sea bass and bone-in filet specials were both great. Veggie accompaniment were well prepared and seasoned. Try the lobster mac-and-cheese - very decadent and fun to share. Good wine rec's from the sommelier; the list is huge so give yourself time. Apple crisp dessert special could have been crispier but fit the season.

Best Restaurant in Carmel
Grasing's has it all -- location, wonderful spacious interior, outside patio dining, impeccable service, amazing food and a gigantic wine list. The bar is the place to be with it's vaulted rustic ceilings & chandeliers. Best weekend brunch in town; we are always amused to see folks lined up to get seated at Katy's when Grasing's brunch is soooooo much better!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Grasing's endures with excellence. Have had dinner at Grasing's several times over many years. The food and service continue to be of high quality. Still love the onion tart too. :)

Great Carmel Restaurant
Grasings is one of our favorite restaurants in Carmel. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Extensive wine list. Always great.
11/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent Foodie Choice
Food was savory and and a definite foodie destination. A great place to enjoy whisky with your dinner. Although the whisky selection is not extensive, they have a good variety a flavor profiles to enjoy and a knowledgeable head bartender. Talk to the bartender if you want some pours from the owners private collection.

Grasing's Nov 2013
I'm not a culinary expert, but I've been around the block a few times. I'm also not independently wealthy. Entrees here are priced such that I couldn't afford to eat here every night; so I'd save it for special occasions. I'd call the ambience "resort casual", table spacing is moderately close; so it's somewhat intimate. I had Osso Buco; which was wonderful. Vegetables are a "flourish"; not a full course. The broccoli & beans were crisp; not mushy as is quite often the case. They have a voluminous wine list. If you read up on Carmel restaurant reviews, Grasing's has always been among the most often recommended, and I have no reason to disagree with that.

A thanksgiving feast
While opting to eat out this year, Grasings was the first restaurant to come to mind. As usual the restaurant did not let me down. I liked the special menu for the special day. Everything was delicious. Will be visiting again soon.
