finally tried this place after hearing so many great things about it. wanted to try everything, but settled on the brussel sprouts, burrata, and beet salad. The beet salad is a bit small for the price, but overall everything was so good. we had a little mishap with our order though (the printer had run out of paper right when our order was put in), so 30 min later we still had no food. the restaurant was great about it and not only rushed our food out once they realized the mistake, but also gave us two free desserts at the end of our meal. really nice touch! i would def come back again, everything on the menu looks great.

This is a great neighborhood
This is a great neighborhood wine bar (in a neighborhood filled with them!). They have a pretty extensive wine selection and the servers are knowledgeable and able to recommend great wines. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced. I would recommend the cheese plate - you actually get large slices of cheese and a good assortment of "extras" to go with the cheese. The truffle popcorn is also a must.

Fancy loco moco!
The hostess was friendly and found us a seat even though we were early. The loco moco was delicious: sunny side eggs were perfect, short rib was tender & moist and mushroom ragout added a nice touch; downside: "fried rice" was made with arborio rice, so had the taste and texture of risotto. My friend had the fried chicken sandwich which he gobbled up promptly. The chicken breast was crisp & moist and the herb promme frites were a great accompaniment. The mimosas were truly bottomless as our server made sure we never saw the bottom of our glasses! There were a couple of times I wasn't able to get his attention, but the other servers stepped up. Acoustics aren't great, so noise level got worse as the afternoon went on.

I have been there several times - and have introduced several friends to Bin 38. We all love it. The wait help is fantastic. The food is awesome. It's fun to go sit at the 'pit' to have desert. This is one of my favorite places!

Great food great service ok service
Went here on a first date, great atmosphere to talk and amazing food. The waiter changed in the middle of our service and didn't mention anything to us which I thought was strange, but neither waiter was particularly bad. The first guy was much more helpful and explained everything while theist guy essentially just brought us a bill. Other than that everything was great!

We went last week for my birthday
We went last week for my birthday diner with 7 friends. We asked to be seated on the patio, which was honored. It is covered and has heated, so we were plenty warm. The wine was great, and the food was nice as well. Tuesdays are 30% off all wine bottles, so that was great! I would definitely go back for the patio. Additionally, there is couch seating inside and out which is great for a romantic evening, or a fun wine night with friends.

Very good food, but wanted
Very good food, but wanted more. Could have been bigger portions.

Awesome place! I'll be coming back
This place was great! I found out about BIN 38 through a Bloomspot deal which was for a 3- course fixed menu, and every course was delicious. The wine list is very good and we even purchased some bottles to take home that we can't find in stores. I will definitely going back to this place again and bringing some new friends with me.

Cozy place with fresh menu
Small and cozy, with a small but innovative menu. Great use of fresh and local ingredients. Our waiter was personable and attentive. Our group of four each had a different entree and each was fantastic. The flatbread appetizers were particularly delicious. We will definitely eat here again.

Great Food and Wine, High Prices
The wine list though not lengthy had good variety and notable labels. I tasted an Oregon Pinot Noir and found it overly acidic. I chose instead a Petersen Zinfandel which was a well balanced wine. It was not jammy but had enough fruit to balance the tannins. I felt the price of glass of wine to be on the high side with the average being $12.00
The menu though not extensive had very enticing and interesting options. The soup which changes daily was a creamy ginger, carrot soup with a chicken stock base. It was very good though I'm not sure it was worth $9.00.
The Flatbread of the day was carmelized onions, grated Parmesan cheese, Italian sausage and fresh Arugula. The baked Halibut was terrific, well seasoned!

Celebrated Mother's day table for 5. Great food and service. Friendly atomosphere, organic sourced and fresh prepared. Dish presentations nice and seasoned perfect. The Bin Burger Rocked!

Great Short Ribs @ Bin 38
The food was very good especially the Short Ribs. The corn chowder needed a little more salt. Service was fair. The music could of been lower in volume.

I'm always very pleased with the food and the service at BIN38. I have introduced several friends to BIN38 and they all have loved it.

Great wine bar for good times
BIN 38 was very accommodating for our large group and when we were delay by traffic/parking they were nice enough to call me to check on us, and hold our table until we got there. They have an extensive wine list from all over the world, with some tempting flights of their popular choices. They also have a good selection of beers by the bottle. Try the truffled popcorn, it's dripping with butter and truffle flavor. Great place for meeting with friends for a casual drink and snack.

Great tapas style menu with wine and beer pairings. Pure joy!!!

Great service, Great food
I want to thanks the staff at Bin 38 for a great experience. I really enjoyed my pan roasted chicken and veggies. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist on the inside with a slight crispiness on the skin. My boyfriend ordered the short rib which was cooked really well. It shredded as you ate, but I think I enjoyed the flavoring of the chicken more. The chilled asparagus salad and spring greens went perfectly before the entrees came out. I enjoyed the warm strawberry and blackberry crisp. I felt that the warm chocolate chip cookie was a little too hard to enjoy with the ice cream. I didn't taste as soft or chewy as I would've wanted it to be. But overall great experience. Wouldn't mind coming back here to try more entrees in the future.
6/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was surprisingly really good (especially the Manila Clams!), and the fire pit looks like a great place to socialize or hang out in a group.
6/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great beer list!
I was impressed the wide selection of high quality, craft beers. They had a short list of 'featured' craft ales of limited release / availability, as well.

The Bin burger had extremely
The Bin burger had extremely high quality ingredients. No gimmicks just an all-American burger. Bottomless Mimosas on a hot day was a refreshing way to deal with the weather. Staff was very accommodating to our large group.

Always a good time
Bin 38 is a great place to go for wine snobs. I love the wine descriptors, it makes it very easy to find a wine you like, and even better for finding off the beaten track wines they recommend. The menu has expanded and is quite well rounded now. Everything on the menu was wonderful. It was quite loud in the back patio, with many large groups there making it vibrant and fun. Don the owner is always present when I'm there on weekends, and is a delight to see. He consistently makes sure you are enjoying yourself and the food/wine, taking an interest in knowing what you drank and ate. He is very open to feedback and works hard at constantly improving the restaurant, which is vital for that neighborhood. Well done!

Midwesterner visiting San Francisco
Was visiting San Francisco for the first time, and used Gilt City deals as a way to scope out local restaurants. We went on a Sunday evening for dinner - the restaurant was quiet and had a lot of available seating. We choose a pre fixe menu which was amazing. Ended up ordering another one of the appetizers (steamed clams) as it was so good and we knew we wouldn't be back any time soon (really, all the food exceeded my expectations).
The wait staff was sparse and it did take a while to get our food. However, our waiter was very personable and generous, and brought out free glasses of wine when he found out we were visiting from Indianapolis to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. I would definitely put this on my list to visit again.

Great food. Servers sometimes
Great food. Servers sometimes a bit confused but not dramatic. Very forthcoming when sharing dishes with another person. They put in on separate plates for you.

I had my birthday here this year. The event staff was very accommodating and reachable. Very responsive and helped me tailor the menu for the group.
Highly recommend for your next large group dinner.

Bin 38 is a great hidden gem for a bottomless mimosa brunch. While the scene was a little more low-key, spending time with a great group of friends out on the patio was wonderful. Our server was very attentive and the food was yummy as well. Overall, it was a good brunch experience.

Went with a group of work friends- all went smoothly, everyone had a great time and the service for our large group was great! Fire pit was a lot of fun for our HH group.

After reading the reviews we decided to give this place a try... I noticed a few people mentioned the service being slow and I will have to agree. Our service was a little slow, but the food made up for it in the end!!! We had the Crispy Pork Belly to share for a starter and it was delicious!! We brought a bottle of wine with us, but the waiter was never around to pour, so we poured our own and didn't mind. At the end of the meal he apologized for not tending to the wine for us and did not charge a corking fee!! Over all, we enjoyed this place and plan to go back.

Love this neighborhood wine bar!
Always a great place to meet up with friends! Their outdoor back patio is great even on chillier nights with the heat lamps and fire. They have an amazing brut rose flight that I can't get enough of and the flatbreads are always a hit! Can't wait to go back!

A Place for Friends
This is definitely a place I would bring friends - it was comfortable, not too loud and the service was great. The wine list has something for everyone, and the wait-staff was knowledgeable and recommended excellent wines to pair with our food. We enjoyed small plates with our bottle of wine and are excited to come back for dinner. They also have bottomless mimosas for brunch, and I cannot wait to try those out too!
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We received a gift certificate to celebrate our anniversary so we headed to Bin 38 for the first time. It was cozy with creative seating areas inside and out. We sat in the back inside where it seemed quieter than the front bar area. The outside was full of people relaxing and chatting with a glass of wine. We didn't have to wait, the food was great and the wine & beer list was extensive. I am sure we'll be back!

Fantastic Outdoor Brunch Spot
I've enjoyed brunch at BIN 38's outdoor patio a few times now, and I always have an enjoyable experience. This most recent time I sat in the fire pit area. It's a bit awkward for dining as there aren't any table-height surfaces, but in a way it added to the comfortable feeling of dining in a friend's backyard. My dining partner had a Gilt City deal for bottomless mimosas, and the servers were very liberal with refills. The service was very friendly and attentive in general, and the food was delicious and flavorful -- I've had the French toast and the omelet of the day. I'd definitely recommend BIN 38 to friends.

Great Night Out
The food is unique, interesting, and very tasty. We tried the Truffle Popcorn (Yum! especially with the suggested wine pairing), Charred Garbanzo Beans, Ricatta Gnudi, Salt Baked Carrots (surprisingly tasty), and Baby Beet Salad. As a table, we ordered four different wines and one beer that went well with our food choices. They do an amazing job pairing their food with wine (and beer). If you have the opportunity to try a paring you will not regret it!
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
From the onset the staff was warm and friendly. The wine list and beer list needs nothing to do with size when the choices are all so fantastic and different. The culinary skills of the kitchen, are impeccable. Sight, aroma, savory, filling. The fire pit outside is a welcome scene in the city. This is definitely a must for SF food, ale, and wine enthusiasts.

We went early on a Friday evening. We sat in the rear room facing the patio. Except for the music and the group noise from outside, it proved an intimate setting. All of our encounters with staff were friendly and helpful. We began with the salted carrots and barley sauce which was pleasant and unusual. My wife ordered the chicken and I had the short ribs both of which came sans bone. The wine reduction was tasty, truly unusual, with a parmesan flavor. The meat was tender, the potatoes infused with cinnamon, and the brussel sprouts delicious. The wine pairings for each dish were excellent, especially the RC syrah. My wife was very pleased with her entree and beer. A definite winner, though perhaps catering to a younger, hipper crowd.

Our waiter was excellent!
Our waiter was excellent! We made reservations there because of the salmon advertised on the web and were VERY disappointed to find they don't serve it any longer so basically we all settled for something else. Probably would not go back, however again our waiter was awesome!

Near Palace of Fine Arts Restaurant
What a great place to eat before a concert in the Palace of Fine Arts. Food was excellent and Dana, our server, couldn't have been more charming & helpful. We'll return here whenever we're in the area.

Great food - Odd restaurant
The food is excellent although the menu is somewhat limited. Every dish we ordered was fantastic and we'd go back simply for the food. Try the short ribs pagatelle as well as the burrata and tuna tartare appetizers. Also, it was fun trying different beers and wines from all over the world. They have a great selection. The restaurant itself is chopped up into different small rooms. The place was empty on a Sunday night so no one was seated in our little nook. A a result, although we had lots of privacy, we also felt rather isolated. No real sense of ambience.

Great Brunch Spot
A great brunch spot with $14 bottomless mimosas and an awesome patio in the back. Food was great and the drinks were perfect!
