The menu and wine pairings were exquisite and imaginative. I would highly endorse Atelier as the best restaurant in Ottawa.

This is a restaurant for foodies! The food is spectacular all 12 courses! You aren't stuffed when you leave but your taste buds are very, very happy.

What an experience!
Each course more glorious than the last.

Worth the flight to Ottawa
Picture a nondescript Ottawa neighborhood and an unmarked boxy townhouse. Inside, there is sophisticated modern décor and perhaps seven or so tables, and very attentive and pleasantly relaxed staff. Expect a long series of exceptionally elaborate courses (each of surprising size for a “tasting menu”), the nature of which are disclosed only upon individual presentation at the table. Each is highly inventive and prepared with complex ingredients, and while this could have produced a muddle of uncertain tastes and over-fussiness, each dish spoke with clarity and burst with flavor. Since the nightly menu is an unknown, we opted for the wine pairing to assure a good match with each course, and I can’t imagine doing it any other way.

Unique & Amazing Dining Experience
This was our first visit to Ottawa and did we pick an amazing restaurant for our first dinner!
The staff was helpful on the phone and very generous with information about the food and wine.
The menu was inventive, playful, and a pleasure to consume!
Warning: If you plan on getting the wine pairing, TAKE A TAXI. The staff is very generous with the wine :) (I'm not complaining)
Because of this I do not remember the last two courses...ha ha....
Really, if you are in Ottawa, this restaurant is a MUST VISIT.
Bravo Marc Lepine!

If Michelin had interest in Ottawa
They wouldn't have far to look. L'Atelier was superb. Refined yet playful. Best meal I've had in Canada.
7/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
very unique experience
Outstanding service. Was our first exposure to molecular cuisine.
12 course surprise menu with very interesting and unusual ideas. I can see a foodie really enjoying this, however we both decided, that this is not our type of food. The overall seeing is also unique, first you have to find the restaurant, just go by the house number ;-)
The interior design matches the food and the experience, very comfy chairs, it does have a bit "Clockwork Orange" feeling.

greatest resto experinece ever

Our experience at Atelier was fantastic. It was our second visit in as many years and the experience was a remarkable as the first. The food was delicious the presentation artistic and the service exemplary. Moreover, most staff was able to serve us French. Having bilingual staff is business savvy in this part of the country...chapeau!!
My only regret was the very very very loud party behind us. The decibels were annoying and frankly disrespectful. This place is small and sound carries.

molecular cuisine at it's finest
Atelier is part dining and part chemistry experience. The food is inventive and amazing. Every course offers a bounty of dazzling tastes and textures all carefully detailed by expert servers, along with instructions for maximum enjoyment. From dazzling foams to popsicle intermezzos to globules of minted pea soup that must be popped in the mouth without breaking the outer membrane, the dinner is a spectacular culinary adventure from beginning to end. This is our second time through the 12 course menu and every dish on the menu was new! The small room, which only seats 20 some guests, has a hushed atmosphere as serious foodies and couples celebrating special occasions whisper over each surprising plate. We look forward to the next visit.

Leaves you wanting more!!!
This was an amazing evening as the 12 courses put the entire range of your taste palette to test. I'm sure if I would have chosen the wine pairing it would have been that much greater. The selection of the courses were just perfect and the order in which they were brought out made perfect sense not being too harsh on flavour and making sure they all compensate for each other. Definitely a great spot for a very special occasion for 2 to 4 guests, as the restaurant all together seats 20 or so people at once and your there anywhere from 3 to 4 hours. Happy Dinning! J

Eat, Drink and be surprised!
Fantastic meal. Each plate surpassed the previous. The wine pairings were perfect and night was capped with not one but two desserts!

Magnificant culinarie experience
exeptional presemtation avery plate was artistic. flavors are out of bounds. incredible culinary expérience!
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place was beyond all my expectations. The food was fantastic and the wines were paired perfectly. I followed others advice and didn't drive, they are quite generous with the wine. The meal took a little more Han three hours to enjoy. There was never a moment when our group didn't have either food or drink in front of them. Highly recommended

A visit to the Atelier is truly an experience for the taste buds. Each dish on the 9-course meal will take your breath away by their presentation, texture, and explosion of flavours they produce. The crew in the kitchen clearly knows how to combine the ingredients to get the full effect in your mouth: they are artists! We would recommend to go with the wine pairing (take a cab to the restaurant!), as the sommelier clearly takes the time to find the most appropriate fluid to accompany each dish: every selection we had nicely complemented the food. The staff is very friendly, and takes the time to explain every dish (and wine if you took the pairing). Service is impeccable, and there is no long wait between each course. Best meal ever!

Thank you so much Atelier!
We had the most amazing and exciting dining experience. We were giddy with delight throughout the entire meal. We loved everything about it - from the knowledgeable and unpretentious wait staff to the ridiculously creative courses to the lovely wine pairings. To say that the meal was delicious is an understatement. Atelier brings food to a whole new level. We loved how each course had a name to it which reduced us to fits of giggles every time the food was placed in front of us. We were so sad when it was over. We had such a great time. I will recommend Atelier to everyone I meet and tell them a long story of our experience. Thank you!

Incredible initiative culinary art
The obvious amount of effort and time put into the initiation, planning, designing, and the execution, makes it not an expensive overall value. The quality of food was incredible overall. However, I have a big criticism to one of the dishes called "You've got quail". The chickpeas in the dishe weren't cooked enough. There are a few health risks associated with it, of which I can point out stomach cramps and bloating. I personally left them in my dish. That's the only little flaw that I found with food. Our waitress was very friendly and welcoming but I wish she knew more about the ingredients that went into the dishes since she is the restaurant's public figure.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nourriture excellente. Service impeccable. Endroit sans prétention. Parfait endroit pour célébrer un événement spécial.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
12 super dishes with accompanying wines that surprise by the original presentation and great taste. This is a wow meal, probably the best I ever had.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Superb Dining Experience
Ottawa is so fortunate to have a restaurant like this. Each course was a masterpiece- so much preparation for each dish. We loved our dining experience/
8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Absolutely amazing experience
What an experience, out of this world. The food was exceptional delicious and different visually. Loved the pea soup entrance and the blueberry dessert. We took the parity wine choice which made the experience even better. I am not one to write reviews but had to break my rules this time. To summarize things in one sentence, I'm going back, guaranteed.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The best dining experience in food matched with an exceptional presentation. A delice for the palate and for the eyes. Our only regret is not having taken pictures of the dishes as it is hard to describe the beauty of it all completed with the wonderful taste of the food. Will keep the restaurant in mind when we come back to Canada for a visit.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was amazing....best meal of my life to date, steve and sarah knew everything and weren't afraid to answer questions....5 stars for sure

Another winning meal
Recently my boyfriend and I dined at Atelier for the second time and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Excellent service and attention to detail, friendly and information servers and very adaptable to food allergies, even at the last minute. The broad, detailed and creative menu plates by the chef and his team reveal brilliant culinary skills and imagination. The special touch of a birthday-cake plate was unexpected and very thoughtful. We highly recommend Atelier for an unforgettably amazing and all-encompassing dining experience.

Open to an Edible Adventure
Very enjoyable evening! Very full at the end of the night. Loved the dishes but thought some had maybe a few too many elements. Half wine pairing would have been enough for me but did the whole one and found myself chugging a bit to keep up (that's just me tho) . Staff very friendly and service amazing! Ate some things that I had never had before, ate them all except the pork tongue, although my husband liked it. Highly recommend the experience!
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
A Fireworks of flavors & colors
... a great dining experience, creativity, taste and excellence are definitely on the menu!. I recommend also to take the wine pairing as it really adds to the whole experience.
For having travelled and dined in France and tried a few places, in my opinion, Atelier should be on the Michelin Guide with a star or two!
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
This molecular restaurant has done it right, things were perfectly done.
Be prepared to sit for 2hrs.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Without the chicken dish and even perhaps a slightly different mixture of desserts, this could've been a near perfect meal.
Also, a disagreement regarding the noise level between two patrons left us all a little on edge (with one taking themselves way too seriously and stating that he was speaking for everyone), it should've been handled differently with the complaining person asked to sit down and the restaurant could've dealt with it better.
BUT, aside of both the one dish and dessert, the service was outstanding - the presentation was beautiful - the exploding grape starting the meal was unique and I would recommend a night out with or without the wine pairing (best sake I have ever had).
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fun with food!. Sometimes
Fun with food!. Sometimes a bit gimmicky but great attentive and knowledgeable service. Perfect for a special occasion
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I went to the Atelier to celebrate our anniversary. It was beyond our expectations. Every plate of the 12 course dinner was original, surprising, and absolutely delicious. Although the portions were small, after the fifth place I felt I couldn't eat any more but it was impossible to stop. It was not just a fancy dinner, it was an experience. We also appreciated the relaxed atmosphere with no pretentiousness. I would definitely recommend the Atelier to anybody interested in something special in Ottawa.

Unique and 5 star experience
Simply put, this is the bast restaurant that i've ever eaten at. The whole experience from start to end is just fantastic. The presentation, textures and flavor combinations were unique and amazing. Add to that a somelier giudes you through the whole evening. It was so memorable that we are sure to return in the near future.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Going to L'Atelier is always memorable and every detail is spectacular. This is the place to go for a romantic meal. Its a bit of an unusual setting. This was my second time to this restaurant. I highly recommend it. The ingredients are unusual and inspired. And the presentation is creative as well. I took my partner here for his birthday and he felt spoiled. So mission accomplished.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
A unique dining experience
A twelve course meal that surprised and delighted each step of the way. It felt as though I managed to be a guest judge at an iron-chef competition. The wine pairing was also very good.
A brick building painted grey. The seating and decor was just black tables and large white comfy chairs. The children's crayon drawings framed as gallery art was a nice touch.

What an amazing evening !!! Very different from any other
restaurant in Ottawa :) The style and presentation of the food was
amazing :). Service impeccable !!! I have to say I was happy my
sister recommended me this restaurant . She told me it's a evening you don't
forget :). Worth every dollar !!!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my first visit to Atelier. It won't be my last. Admittedly, I wondered a bit as I pulled up to the restaurant. There's no sign, and it certainly doesn't look like it's going to be anything special. But these people work magic! The food was creative, the service was impeccable. At $185 a plate, including wine pairings, it's not a place you're going to drop by once a week. But this is definitely a place worth keeping in mind for special occasions. Kudos to everybody!

Gastro molecular delight
If you have not yet been to Atelier, do yourself a favour and make reservations. But do them in advance as it could be difficult to get a table. The service is impeccable and the staff are incredibly well versed on the menu and the wine pairings. It is a 10(?) course tasting menu with wine pairings and is truly a spectacular experience. We have been four times now over the past couple of years and I eagerly look forward to the next occasion. Be warned, it isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny.

The Vibrant Art of Food
This was a lesson in the art, presentation and multiingredient awesome glory of food. Each dish was a canvas of gastronomic splendor visually and gustatory. Our server told us that the meals had over 200 ingredients. I guessed 150. A foodie's mecca. When in the future we'll return to visit Ottawa, Atelier will be top of our dining list.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Work of Art on a plate
Each course was an exquisite work of art in terms of presentation, preparation, and of course, taste. A feast for all the senses, with informative introductions by the staff. There could be a little more time left between courses as well. I have heard that if you go with a group, the pace is slower.
My only wish was that our seating was more private. We were flanked on either side by another couple, not more than a foot away...a tad close. On one side, the couple spent most of their time on their cell phones, and because both couples were so close to us, we could hear each other's conversations. This problem could also be solved by going in a group.

Best Dining Experience in Ottawa!!
Took one of my favourite people ever out for her 30th birthday and I have to say this was the most enjoyable and exciting dining experience i've ever had. Each dish came with a corny yet memorable name which left a smile on both of our faces, the most memorable and favourite of ours was the Denzel Squashington. It was easy to tell that A LOT of thought was taken when preparing and presenting the meals and our server was both funny and amicable which added to the overall experience!
I highly recommend this for special occasions with your special peoples :)

A truly memorble dining experience
Finally - an exceptional fine dining restaurant in Ottawa that takes the experience to a whole new level. The chef's creativity ib putting together an impeccable and intriguing menu is to be celebrated. The service was also far above the norm, even compared to other higher-end restaurants. We were blown away that our server could recite the full ingredient list of each of the 12 courses without missing a beat. The timing of the courses and the prompt pouring of each of the equally impressive wine pairings was also commendable. We had a few dietary restrictions that were accommodated beautifully. All in all a truly memorable evening.

Expensive But Worth It for Special.
A very small, intimate restaurant with reservations essential. Expensive but well worth it for a special occasion, The set tasting menu of 12 courses is beautifully presented and very imaginative - each dish a work of art. Service is personable, informed and attentive. Not your every-day restaurant but a winner when something special is called-for.

Exceptional & Creative Dinning!
Service, Taste, Portion, Presentation, the dinning wares and the Creative Mind of the Chef make my dream of fine dinning coming true!
Dinning is not just eating & drinking anymore here! Each dish is a piece of art that makes everyone taking pictures of them! I felt like in an art gallery of dinning! Paring with the professional recommended wines(half pour is good enough for us) makes the dinning experience unforgettable! This is the Canadian version of Susur Lee's art of dinning! --- The way of fine dinning should be!
I am a very picky dieter. However, the restaurant gave me a lots of surprises from the moment of finding the place! I love it very much in general! This is a place for people appreciating the art of dinning! Thanks Atelier!

A special evening
I tried to write a review but it was too long. I thought you wanted reviews.

A 12-course blind tasting
A 12-course blind tasting menu can be a bit of an intimidating thought, but the restaurant pulls it off beautifully. Wonderful food presented in incredibly creative ways. A great place for that special occasion and for determined foodies!

This was my third time at Atelier and I have never been disappointed.
The service is great, the food is always amazing and the wine pairings are exceptional.
In my opinion it is worth every penny.

Another memorable experience!
It was our second time at Atelier, and we were not disappointed. Once again it was a memorable experience for the taste buds. Amazing food and wine (with perfect pairing!), with always the best presentation I have ever seen, excellent service, a very nice ambiance: these were all the ingredients to create a perfect outing. We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and to our great surprise the event was "commemorated" with a much appreciated special treat. In one very simple word: WOW!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
The creative names for each dish were great! The service was excellent, always quick and friendly. The presentation of the food was beautiful with wonderful flavours. We are not big fish or seafood eaters but enjoyed every course; it's a great way to try different foods without having to order a full meal of one single food. It's a small restaurant so if you're only two, be prepared to be close to your neighbours. It wasn't an issue for us but I suppose it depends on the neighbours. I would recommend the experience to friends but it is not cheap, especially when you take the wine pairing (which we did and enjoyed); not sure I would say it's completely worth the high price but then again, it isn't something you do every day either.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food and wine
We eat out a lot, and everywhere (all types and many countries). This was amazing food, very interesting, and definitely not something you could reproduce at home.
A fantastic addition to the experience is the quality of the wine pairings. Each pairing highlighted notes in the food. Clearly a level of knowledge beyond his peers in this town.
Not inexpensive but worth it.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
A night of discovery
We didn't really knew what to expect. The location was a bit peculiar, in a bizarre area of town no sign to announce the restaurant, minimal decorations inside beside some rusted metal bars. We wonder where we ended up! Once the initial surprise passed we were in for a spectacular evening where the focus was really on the food and the wines. The evening was filled with 12 outstanding courses paired with the finest wines. The courses were all more original as the evening went on, It was certainly an evening to remember. It was a bit pricey ($967 including taxes and gratuity for four persons) but we didn't experience anything close to it before and we will recommend this restaurant to everyone who can afford the price.
