Another great Sociale experience
Had a chance to introduce a new guest to Sociale and had another tremendous experience. I love this restaurant as it is not as pretentious as some of the other nearby establishments. For starters, the fried olives are excellent, and the burrata and scallops were well done. As usual, the pasta's were excellent and when paired with the wine, couldn't have been better. Didn't have room for dessert, but will save for next time!

Great find in Pacific Heights
Very great food --specials was wonderful. Somalia made a terrific suggestion pairing.

A neighborhood gem
You can't go wrong with Sociale. The food is excellent, it comes in well balanced portions, and the staff is friendly. The wine list offers a great choice across all price ranges, from very reasonable to the higher end, but all of good quality, and Sociale always has a good recommendation on what wine to pick if you ask.
I've been to Sociale with family, wife, business and sent people there for dates. Everybody so far has raved.

The food was good. The service was great, as was the wine. It was a little to noisy. I would go again.

Great food and wonderful service.
We had a great experience at Sociale this past weekend. The service and food were simply awesome. They really took care of us. We were 30 minutes late because of the bomb scare on the bay bridge on Friday, but when we called them they said they were going to hold our table. It took us 80 minutes to get their from Oakland and we were frazzled by the time we got there. The staff at Sociale realized this and brought us some Prosecco to get us in the mood for a great dining experience. That was unexpected and it did the trick. Now that's service. The food was just as great. Everything we had, olives, Bolognese, and the pork were very well prepared. I'm definitely going back there and recommending this place to all my friends. Nice job Sociale!

We spent a wonderful anniversary here. It is an intimate restaurant tucked away in an alley, giving it a hidden, neighborhood feel. Service was very hospitable. We ordered so much food! and the bill was very reasonable.

Feels Just Right
I love this place. The wonderfully atmospheric hidden-alley entrance, the intimate outdoor seating, the casually elegant interior decor combine with pitch-perfect service to make a relaxing, special experience. An awkward 14yo in our party had extensive food allergies and our server's guidance through the menu made him feel comfortable and cared for. We have gone with small groups and for date-night out. The food is excellent, with all 5 people this visit being very happy with all three courses. Sociale is still a treat every time, not just a meal out.

A very good birthday!
Sociale seemed a tiny place from the road but the little doorway hid a delightful restaurant beyond. We went for my daughters 18th birthday and the ambience was perfect. It was lively without being raucous. My daughter tucked into squid followed by halibut and we also enjoyed chicken pot pie, pork chops with mustard. I was only slightly disappointed that the staff didn't make more of an effort with the dessert which came with only a candle stuck on the side of the plant. Other than that, the staff were friendly and helpful and the four of us had a lovely evening.

Sociale for Lunch
This is a great neighborhood restaurant to meet a friend at for lunch. The food is always very good, the ambience quiet and calming, and the noise level is low so that you can hear your friend without having to lean over the table. Recommended.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had not been to Sociale in quite some time but I must say I will to wait so long again...the food was the best I have ever had there and the patio was quiet and comfortable on a very gray SF day...service was top notch and the experience shared with a friend who had not been there was really so dear full...keep,up the good work....

Delicious Food, Service a Bit Off
Requested assistance with the wine list, the sommelier came over, I chose my wine, but my friend needed more time to review the list. He NEVER came back to help her. I finally flagged someone else down. Our server was perhaps too busy - had to flag her down a couple of times, also. Overall, wonderful food, great atmosphere, just a little disappointed with the service.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch
My wife and I enjoyed lunch at Sociale before heading over to the de Young museum. We were greeted with friendliness and professionalism. Our waitress was knowledgeable about each food item and was pleasantly upbeat. It was a cool day, so my wife opted for the red bellpepper soup, which was warm, delicious, and tomatoey. I had the grilled squid and squash, which was the perfect starter. My wife's chicken pot pie was full of scrumptious flavors and was the best she had had outside of home cooking. My squid-ink spaghetti with clams and pancetta was definitely a hit. I would order it again and again. All of the flavors melded perfectly for an incredibly delicious mouthful. We live north of the city, but will return to Sociale often.

8/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
I hadn't been to Sociale for many years, but when I tripped upon it in an OpenTable search in the area, I was excited to revisit it. Well it did not disappoint... the service, the food, the ambiance were all amazing... and the four of us could not have been more pleased with our dining experience. Look forward to going back again soon!

Lovely Little Spot
Off the main street, Sociale is a lovely little escape from life. Delicious italian food, beautiful outdoor space and not too fancy. The only complaint I would have is that the service seemed a little slow, but maybe we were supposed to be enjoying each others company and not focusing on food? Highly recommmend!

Dinner Date at Sociale
Our server was attentive but not intrusive. My husband had the chicken pot pie and I had the duck pappardelle. Both were very good. The duck was very tender and flavorful and made a kind of ragu for the pasta and peas. My husband's pot pie was not like a traditional pot pie. It only had a deliciously herbed crust over the top of the pie. The pie filling was like a thick cream-based soup and had a slight hint of lemon. We also had dessert–some kind of deep fried dough ball covered in honey and pistachios, served with a very delicious milk shake. The restaurant was nice but our table was small and my husband's chair was very, very close to the people at the next booth. The waiter and the other diners continually bumped him.

One of our perrenial neighborhood
One of our perrenial neighborhood favorites. They keep updating the menu, but saving favorites like the pappardelle with duck ragu. With a heated patio, you can dine outside all year - a real teat in SF.

Incredible Experience All Around
My co workers and I ate here for dinner on a Wednesdy night and couldn't stop talking about the restaurant the next day. The food was absolutely delicious - particularly the watermelon and bureaus salad and fried olives. Their wine list was extensive as well. We sat inside and felt like we were in an inviting rustic home. Would highly recommend to couples or groups. Just delicious.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
We dined on the charming outdoor patio and felt like we were in Europe. Our squid with heirloom tomato appetizer was fresh and delicious as was our salmon entree served with asparagus and heirloom tomatoes. Our dessert was a Sicilian donut with honey accompanied by a vanilla milk shake, also delicious.
On previous visits we have enjoyed superb pastas. Love this place!

My wife and I had an absolutely
My wife and I had an absolutely fantastic evening here. Located in a quiet part of town, you walk down a long corridor and into a lovely patio - just entering the restaurant feels intimate, romantic. We weren't able to sit outside, but the hostess put us at the window, which was just fine. Our food was very good and the service was attentive, friendly, and helpful. We would definitely come back here again.

This Winner Never Disappoints
Unlike some boyfriends, Sociale has never disappointed me in some 20 years of going for lunch, dinner, inside and out. I've now moved out of San Francisco but still come back frequently to take advantage of what the city offers and am always thrilled when those plans allow me to dine at Sociale as well. Brought two friends with me who had never been and they, too, were very pleased. The restaurant exudes warmth in all quarters--the food, the ambience, the service--at prices reasonable for the quality delivered.

Great food, awesome neighborhood
Great food, awesome neighborhood spot. A mix of older neighbors and younger couples. Known to have a good weekend brunch too.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
delicious food, delightful setting
Wonderful little restaurant with really good food, very pleasant comfortable atmosphere, attentive waitstaff and quiet enough to hear table companions. Would have lunch ( and try dinner) there again definitely and dessert was fabulous.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
good food, service was absent
Went for a fun birthday dinner. The food was great. I had lobster fettuccine and it was full of lobster, great deal! Also had grilled squid and basil cheesecake, which were both delicious. Service, however, was mediocre. They took forever to take our orders and overall service, when it did come, was lackluster.

Pacific Heights Italian "sociale"
Sociale is a wonderful neighborhood gem in the Pacific Heights. Located down an alley in a tiny crowded space; when it's packed, it's noisy. It's worth it, however. From the wonderful welcome at the host station to the Italian themed California cuisine, to the wine list, everything makes for a wonderful evening. Don't miss the fried olives and polenta fries, the chicken pot pie, or the in-house pork selection of the day. We've had several meals here late at night and we've enjoyed every one of them.

Consistently Great Food
Creative, but not overly fussy, beautifully executed Italian dishes, from pastas to fish to the daily pork special. Food complemented by a full, but not overwhelming, wine list. Especially nice range of Italian varietals, where you can try something new and be pretty sure it will be wonderful. Staff can assist with pairings, and are helpful and unobtrusive. Heated patio can be quieter than inside. Sociale reminds me of several great restaurants I found in Northern Italy, tucked away behind shuttered street fronts, filled with locals who knew where to find the best meal in town.

a little short on service
Great food and atmosphere but the service was a little spotty....we would go back

We've been here over the years
We've been here over the years but it had been a long time since our last visit. It was even better than we remembered. The food was excellent, service was exceptional, ambiance and noise level were just right. We will definitely be back.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Unusual and delicious offerings: the watermelon with burrata was incredibly delicious and the pappardelle with braised duck was some of the best pasta I've had in ages. The waygu filet, potato custard and vegetable confit were very good as was the peach crumble However, the watermelon with burrata and the parpadelle were simply to die for. The service was warm, helpful and responsive. The patio was lovely. This was my first visit and I can hardly wait to return!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
romantic and delicious
one of my favorite restaurants in sf. each time food has been delicious. the setting is very romantic and I always can't wait to come back again!

Our Go-To Restaurant
We love Sociale, and go there often. Service is always personal, attentive and careful, pasta (esp. pici Bolognese and papardelle with duck) reliably al dente and flavorful, creative pork specials, killer chicken pot pie, a smallish but painstakingly selected wine list (largely Italian) about which all the servers and managers are knowledgeable, usually reasonably quiet...what's not to like?
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was fabulous!! I recommend the watermelon burrata, the white bean crostino, and the pappardelle with duck. I will definitely come back for seconds.

Always top notch
Sociale was recommended by my friends who had lived in SF for a number of years. My boyfriend and I LOVE it and have dinner there whenever we are in SF. One night we chose to eat at another restaurant closer to our hotel that just wasn't as amazing as Sociale. So after dinner there, we took a cab to Sociale, ordered their amazing risotto and chocolate cake for dessert! Can't beat it!

Worth The Cab Ride fr. Union Square
Charming, romantic, and intimate. This is a real find in Presidio Heights. The decor is original and ornate, but not over-the-top opulent. The food and the service were exceptional.
10/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
I don't get there often, so I was joking with our waiter about a sampler plate. He recommended that we could get 4 of their different entrees as a 1/2 order. We shared all 4 of the 1/2 orders and then shared a full fish dish. It was all amazing and didn't break the bank to be able to sample many of their delicious dishes. I will definitely go back .

Great atmosphere for a date night
It was a chilly evening, but we elected to sit in the covered outdoor patio under heat lamps. We were definitely warm enough and enjoyed the ambiance of the lights strung on the surrounding trees. Sociale has a quiet, intimate atmosphere and was quite relaxing. The food was also delicious. We had the little gem salad and split a half order of duck pasta to start. He then had the pork chop and I had the chicken pot pie which hit the spot on a cold night. We couldn't resist dessert and ordered the rhubarb upsidedown cake which was a highlight of the meal. Warm toffee cake flavors and yummy cinnamon flavored ice cream. I would definitely like to go back!
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've always loved Sociale's location, ambiance, and service, which didn't disappoint. Sadly, the food wasn't as good on this evening.

Everything at Sociale was
Everything at Sociale was as wonderful as always.
I had a problem with Open Table changing my reservation from 5-3. I tried twice to do this online and when we arrived, they still had a table for 5 waiting for us so obviously the online attempt to change my reservation did not work for them.

Feedback on food
I was a little disappointed in the food. I had seen it reviewed on Check Please Bay Area, and people raved about the food. My food was OK, but not rave-worthy. The wine however, which was suggested by the sommelier, was lovely. I don't know if I would go back. The food wasn't special enough I guess
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
I'd walked past Sociale many times when I worked in the neighborhood and finally lunched there on Friday. The Squid Ink Papardelle with clams was excellent. Just the right amount, but I wouldn't eaten more, it was so good. Love the outdoor patio area. I would definitely try it again. Who wants to take me to dinner?
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Another Great Find
Every time we visit San Francisco, we look for new places to dine. This time we did lunch at Sociale. The scallops appetizer was a most unique preparation with the citrus sauce. The bolognese was just what a great bolognese is supposed to be. The service was warm and welcoming. Since it was a Saturday lunch, it was quiet with great music from the great R&R oldies.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
I chose Sociale for a reunion of friends - we wanted to talk so a quiet but not stuffy restaurant was important. The evening was cool but the outdoor seating was just fine with the heaters going. Three of us, all lovers of good food, ordered three dishes: a wild mushroom rissotto, a pasta dish of the day, and a squash lasagna. Then we shared. Not a bummer in the group - everything was tasty plus to my delight the flavors worked well with one another.
For wine we tried two whites (by the glass), not oaky, that were recommended by our waitress.

More than a restaurant
My gf and I walked down a hidden alley to this perfect restaurant. We sat at a quiet outdoor table and had some of the best food either of us had had in a long time - risotto, scallops, pasta with cranberry beans, little gem salad, great wine. Work and family cares melted away. We agreed that this will be our go to spot for romantic dinners.
11/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu was varied to satisfy everyone at our table of four. We shared the appetizers - the white bean crostini with baby arugula and scallops with fava bean - which the waitress divided accommodatingly. She was most cordiale and obliging at giving us exceptional service - unusual for San Francisco.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delicious food and great service!
The food was to die for!! The pumpkin lasagna was exquisite and perfect for the season and the polenta cake with honey was phenomenal! Service was great and we didn't feel rushed during lunch. Very warm and cozy restaurant.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Just the best
Have had SO MANY perfect dinners here, it's hard to keep track!! A wonderful neighborhood gem tucked away in Presidio Heights. Most recently I celebrated my mother's birthday here. Could not have been a more perfect night. Combination of food, service, and ambiance is simply unbeatable. Sociale is my ideal restaurant.

Great Appetizers Surprising Dessert
This is truly a hidden neighborhood gem-you can't see it when you walk by- but must walk down a hallway into a quaint patio and dining room. We were the first to arrive for a 6pm reservation. The staff gave us a choice of dining rooms and honored my request for a window seat. Anna, our server, was very nice and accommodating. We ordered wine and appetizers first. The scallops were very nicely prepared and the beet salad was good. I ordered the albacore, but was not happy with the texture. It was barely warm-not really seared or grilled as stated-it was better the next day as tuna salad! My friend ordered the pici bolognese and that looked better.Perhaps the best and most surprising thing was the dessert-SFINGI-fried dough/vanilla milkshake!
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
It is good to see a local survive over the years. They were good, and after many years are still good.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
(I'm a tough grader.) My third
(I'm a tough grader.) My third visit in 2013 - the other two were even a notch better. This restaurant has become one of the best 25 or so restaurants in San Francisco. They recently added a third dining area and the staff has risen to the challenge. Always an interesting menu and the wine list (and wine service) is one of the very best in the city; great for Italian wine geeks. Warning: maybe a challenge to find if you've never been there before.
