Dining at the Top of the Mark
Dining at the Top of the Mark was the most memorable experience. We had the best seat in the house with views all over San Francisco. The service was impeccable and the food was
exquisite. I can't find all the words to describe our fantastic brunch.

The breakfast buffet here
The breakfast buffet here is excellent. Lots of very delicious choices. The service was excellent, which is not always the case with a buffet. And the view is beyond compare. It was worth the high price.

Room with a view.
The Top of the Mark is a room with a view. However there are many places to get a view of the city without the large cost. We went for breakfast which is a buffet.....which means you serve yourself!!! but somehow then pay a 30% fee on top of the food cost for service and tip.....all added for your convenience. The breakfast selection was fine.....nothing out of the ordinary....eggs benedict in a warmer?? Woud not recommend it for the food. We had made reservations well in advance and to their credit we had a great table set aside.

Wonderful 90th birthday celebration
We went for my grandfathers 90th birthday celebration as he last visted The Mark in 1946. We all spent the night in the hotel and had drinks the afternoon before and brunch the following day. I have never seen such a caring display by all of those we encountered. From the birthday deserts in his room and at the table to the wonderful surprise monogrammed handkerchief the staff gave him. As well, it was the most gorgeous and scrumptuous layout for a brunch I have ever witnessed. Absolutely perfect!

Consistently Outstanding Brunch
I received an outstanding table with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts on a beautiful clear day in San Francisco. My server Michael was excellent. The brunch included lobster ceviche, lobster bisque, Caesar salad, caviar station with blinis, oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, shrimp, smoked fish, cheese plate, cured meats, omelet station, excellent prime rib au jus, leg of lamb au jus, steak, chicken, pasta, dim sum, scrambled eggs, fresh toast, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, the famous Mark Hopkins bread pudding, French pastries, white chocolate covered cheesecake popsicles, hazelnut lollipops, strawberry shortcake, and champagne. I am a regular customer and appreciate the consistent quality and service.

I had a table with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Palace of Fine Arts. The live music was a very talented pianist. I was served by the very attentive Gloria. The food was amazing: high-quality champagne, caviar with blinis, oysters on the half shell, shrimp, cracked crab, Caesar salad, fruit, smoked fish, prime rib, Korean-style steak, chicken, gnocchi pasta, French pastries, and the famous Mark Hopkins bread pudding.

lovely brunch with a fabulous view
This is a traditional buffet brunch with very upscale dishes (oysters, caviar, shrimp, crab, carved meats) in a room at the top of the Mark Hopkins with a 360 degree view. Expensive but wonderful!

Top of the Mark serves an outstanding Sunday champagne brunch. I was served by the attentive Jose, and I had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts from my table. There is a caviar station with blinis, oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, shrimp, smoked fish, fresh fruit, salads, prime rib au jus with horseradish, ahi tuna, roast duck with beets and spinach, and many desserts, including a Brandy Alexander (which is an interesting cobbler served in a glass) as well as the famous Mark Hopkins Bread Pudding and assorted French pastries. There are many other items as well. The champagne, orange juice, and coffee are excellent. There is a great variety of excellent dishes. Live piano and great service, too. Bravissimo!

I had a table with a great view and was served by the attentive Michael. The buffet offerings were amazing: skirt steak with mushrooms, oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, caviar station with blinis, smoked fish, prime rib, and omelet station, to name a few. The meal includes champagne, orange juice, and coffee. The desserts include the famous Mark Hopkins bread pudding, nectarine cobbler (with vanilla ice cream a la mode), assorted French pastries, and many others. Bravissimo!

I dined at Top of the Mark on a Saturday morning for their buffet. The food was tasty but with a buffet-style breakfast, some of the food was cooler than if ordered from the kitchen. The views were gorgeous and the service was prompt and friendly. I hope to return soon to see what the restaurant is for dinner.

Best brunch in San Francisco
The Mark Hopkins has the best view in San Francisco, add to that a great brunch which includes a fresh seafood bar, a caviar bar, beside all the other courses. This is a great brunch

Great Birthday Lunch
We came to celebrate our son's 30th birthday. We were seated at a table with a lovely view of the city. The food, ambience and service were very nice. I've been there several times for a group luncheon and again everything was very nice.
The menu is not large but there is something for everyone; a little on the expensive side but coupled with the views of the city, well worth the extra cost. I would recommend the Top of the Mark, especially for someone celebrating special occasion.

Special Occasion Brunch
We recently celebrated our engagement here after the DOMA decision and it turned out to be a very special brunch. The hostess, aware that we were newly engaged, gave us a heartfelt "YAYY!" as we were seated. Our server Jose was very attentive and helpful and made sure the coffee, orange juice, and champagne, kept coming. Loved all the shrimp and salad appetizers. The crab benedict and cheese pancake w/blueberry syrup were great ideas but a little overcooked by the time we got to them. The Hungarian beef soup had a nice little kick to it. The bread pudding was outstanding as were many of the little petits fours. The New York cheesecake nondescript.
We had a great time and would recommend this to anyone celebrating a special occasion.

It was a great place to take in the San Francisco for brunch. It was a beautiful day, the views are just amazing. The service was great, Jose took great care of us, we never had to ask to have anything refilled. Jose made me an Irish Coffee even though the bar was closed. The food was very good, but not spectacular, definitely paying for the view and service. Had a great time because of the service and pleasant attitudes.

For our final eating experience in San Francisco, we wanted someplace special for Brunch. My husband suggested the Top of the Mark. The very same place his parents went for a very special day over 60 years ago. This is where his father proposed marriage to his mother.
Brunch was just perfect. Made to order omelets, Hot dishes, salads, seafood platter, caviar and blini, fruit, cheeses, pates, you name it. A wide choice of desserts and even a special made to order ice cream and poached pears hot at the dessert station. Carved turkey and beef. I am sure I forgot something as there was so much. Including a very nice Kenwood sparkilng wine flowing.....

Piano playing was distracting
We found the piano playing to be too loud and of a style we didn't care for. It took away from the experience.

Outstanding Sunday Brunch
The Sunday champagne brunch at Top of the Mark is outstanding. I had a table with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts, and I was served by the attentive Jullian. The buffet included a caviar station with blinis, oysters on the half shell, shrimp, cracked crab, smoked fish, cheese plate, fresh fruit and berries, salads, lobster, heirloom tomatoes, asparagus, lobster bisque, dim sum, butternut squash ravioli, beef tenderloin, roasted chicken, paella, prime rib au jus, salmon in puff pastry, strawberry ice cream, omelette station, assorted French pastries, and the famous Mark Hopkins bread pudding.

A must do experience!
Upon arrival the piano man is quietly playing classic gems under the chandelier. The tables circle the room with plenty of space between them. As you walk toward your table (reserve one last minute or not) the reason to go becomes evident. The views are spectacular. You can see the sun rise in the morning or set in the evening while looking out at the entire city. The cocktails were nice, the food top rate at the experience, worth the effort. We stayed at the hotel itself this trip to San Francisco and it was the best! Have fun!

Top of the Mark Is Still Tops
Top of the Mark has been "Tops" in every way over the 13 years we've enjoyed their Champagne Brunch Buffets! "Excellent customer service" is an inadequate term. It was sheer "Customer Delight!" in a relaxed atmosphere with flawless, unobtrusive service for our anniversary celebration. We savored caviars, pates, salads, raw oysters, crab, prawn, smoked fishes, cheeses, fresh fruits, and endless entrees that included Eggs/duck Benedict, NY steak, dim sum, sea bass, and prime rib/roast pork carving station. 40+ dessert offerings followed this sumptuous feast. A great pianist and 360 degree panoramic table-side views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge and City from atop the 19th floor. Smart, Sophisticated and Charming!

I had a great table with a view of the Palace of Fine Arts, Mount Tamalpais, the Golden Gate Bridge, Russian Hill, and Alcatraz. My server was Frank, and the maitre d' was Patty. The pianist was Elias. I enjoyed the caviar with blinis, oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, shrimp, Caesar salad, stone fruit salad, prime rib au jus with horseradish, butternut squash ravioli, lamb osso bucco, poached salmon, cioppino, chocolate chip pancakes with hazelnut sauce, chicken, bananas foster with rum and vanilla ice cream and pound cake, bear claw, French pastries, pecan tart, Dungeness crab with citrus, figs, champagne, orange juice, and decaf coffee. The food is excellent, and the menu changes from week to week. Very creative and consistent.

Top of the Mark gets Top Marks
Amazing selection of seafood and other delicacies. Not your normal eggs, french toast and bacon style brunch. The views are spectacular. The wait staff is always waiting to fill the glasses, coffee and take empty plates so you can "reload." Pricey but well worth it for a special occasion.

Simple the best Brunch anywhere
Fantastic view of San Francisco, great food and service, what else could you ask for.
Do not leave San Franciso without visiting this fabulous place. The Brunch is pricy, but worth it. If you just want to see the veiw, come at night for a cocktail.

Superior Champagne Sunday Brunch
My server was Frank, and the maitre d' was Patty. I had a table with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Palace of Fine Arts, Russian Hill, Alcatraz, and Grace Cathedral. I enjoyed the caviar with blinis, oysters on the half shell, cracked crab, Caesar salad, prime rib au jus, sturgeon, mushroom ravioli, champagne, and orange juice. For dessert, I enjoyed the strawberry ice cream served in a martini glass with rum poured on top, Mark Hopkins bread pudding, assorted French pastry cones with raspberries, bear claw, strawberry/mint shooters, and coffee. There was a live pianist, and I asked him to play something by Duke Ellington; he chose Satin Doll, one of my favorites. The Masonic Garage, one block away, offers convenient parking on Nob Hill.

Spectacular view and service
Top of the Mark is what it is-a place with an incredible view of San Francisco. The service is attentive and friendly and the ambiance though old school, is still nice, reminiscent of a different era. The dishes themselves left a lot to be desired, especially at their price points. But you know what you are paying for, and that is ultimately the view.

Superior Sunday Brunch
I had an excellent table with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Russian Hill, Alcatraz, and the Palace of Fine Arts. The maitre d' was Patty, my server was Michael, and the pianist was Mike, who played two songs by Duke Ellington for me. I enjoyed the caviar station, smoked fish, Caesar Salad, steak with ratatouille, poached salmon with bok choy, squash ravioli, Mark Hopkins Cioppino, Prime Rib au jus, Leg of Lamb, fresh fruit, and oysters on the half shell. For dessert, I enjoyed chocolate ice cream served in a martini glass with rum, the Mark Hopkins Bread Pudding, lemon cake lollipop, bear claw, French pastry cones, apple cobbler, and rice pudding with raspberries on top. Champagne, orange juice, coffee, and water are also included. Yum!

Always a great experience
We're from Vancouver and had traveled to SF for my friend's 50th birthday weekend. We capped off the trip, which included a 49er game, with brunch at the Top of the Mark. I had been before, and this time was just as amazing as my last visit. Impeccable service, and a beautiful buffet. Thank you to the staff.

You will love this place!
Whatever it is you think San Francisco is the Top of the Mark makes come alive. First you instantaneously fall in love with Patty. Her smile will close the door of the busy world behind you and then when she lands you at the table it strikes you that somehow all your daily worries are so small, way down there and far away...
You will come back. You know it. You will bring others. You know it. Why? Because you want this magic again. Cheers!

Great for special Sunday brunch
You are paying for the view, not necessarily the food. On a clear day, you can see all of SF. The food is good, not great. An attempt at variety is apparent but with any buffet style brunch, things are going to get dried out if not grabbed up right away. However, the caviar and dessert choices were outstanding. The omelete and waffle stations were good also, simply because those items were made to order. Good for a special occasion but be prepared for the price, and the price of parking too.

lunch at top of mark
unfortunately, the table next to us was occupied by a broker doing business by phone and computer duriing lunch...very poor taste and the staff did nothing to stop him. Another local couple had the sound judgment of moving their table to a quieter place.
