Chic theater restaurant
Vice Versa offers a sophisticated dining experience. The food was spectacular, the service outstanding and the ambience modern. It was a a perfect place for an after theater dinner for our group of seven. This restaurant is pricey, especially the drinks. It is a special place for a lovely dinner.

Great Surprise in Hells Kitchen
ViceVersa is one of those great finds. The restaurant is simple and classy. There is beautiful outdoor dining, which we probably would have opted for except it was much too hot for outdoor dining. The wait staff are unbelievable--so attentive and pleasant. The food was excellent. We asked to share a fresh mozzarella salad, and to our delight they had split the salad for us and served in separate plates (now how nice is that). The Cornish Hen was delicious along with the Beet Infused Pasta dish. The dining experience was absolutely wonderful. It is a definite return for us.

Terrific find in the theater district. We were welcomed in to avoid the heat while waiting for our table to be ready. We were worried about making it out in time for our matinee on a Sunday...no need. THey were excellent. My fish was superior in every way. I would definitely return and recommend this to others.

Low Key Elegance with a Garden View
I was initially reluctant to patronize this restaurant, due to the seemingly limited menu of unusually seasoned and prepared items. Glad I ate here, as it was an excellent experience!!!
Arrived 7/5 around 4:30..... Although not yet open for dinner, which starts at 5pm, the host welcomed our party graciously, inviting us to sit in the waiting area or bar until they were ready to seat us. Nice atmosphere, with comfortable chairs and tables spaced further apart than in many NYC restaurants, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Glass walls separate the restaurant from an outdoor seating area, and the view of plants and fountain is very nice.
Food was enjoyed by all. Lasagna with bechamel, Salmon, Halibut over pureed zucchini & pesto.

My new go-to place pre-show.
I come to NYC for theatre, and I've finally found a dining option that suits. It's elegant, efficient, delicious, affordable, and--perhaps best of all--off the beaten path. My companions and I loved the small-plate options, pleasing before or after a show.

Midtown west gem
This northern Italian restaurant has a cool but elegant and inviting modern ambiance with contemporary art prints and classical urns on the walls. There's a lovely dining garden in back, visible through glass walls. The food and service are first rate. We visited during NYC Summer Restaurant Week, but passed over that $38 3-course dinner option to order from the irresistible a la carte menu. All pastas are homemade and include Casoncelli, the selection my husband made and I wish I had - the restaurant's specialty, a recipe of the chef's grandmother! My pasta (Strozzapreti) with duck ragu was excellent, but after tasting my husband's, I had buyer's remorse! Appetizer selections were also tempting. We shared lobster salad and Vitello Tonnato.

Consistently wonderful Italian gem
ViceVersa is a favorite of mine in Hells Kitchen, and my last visit reminded me how consistently excellent it is. The owner, Franco, almost always greets you, and sets the warm tone of the restaurant. Drinks from the bar were lovely, and well made. The salami/italian meat appetizer I had was perfect. The homemade pastas my friend and I ordered (Veal Casconcelli and Duck Strozapretti) were phenomenal...as always. This is really one of the best atypical Italian restaurants in New York. Most of what's on the menu is entirely special....you aren't going to find the dishes elsewhere. It's a great spot for a date, night out with friends, or client dinner.

It was Restaurant Week and
It was Restaurant Week and their menu for that was great but they also have a very good price fix menu besides that.
It was a pretty restaurant and it even had an outside garden so all in all it was a good find. Would definitely recommend
it pre theater and post theater.

I love this restaurant! I've never been disappointed and look forward to enjoying lunch or dinner when I am going to the theatre in the West 50's. The food is always good, the service pleasant and the restaurant is immaculate.

I love the relaxed atmosphere and ambience of this place with a beautiful out door garden sitting! The food was excellent as usual. The homemade pasta To die for. my cousin who was visiting from Europe had the strangled priest pasta with duck ragout and said it was absolutely the best pasta she ever had, perfectly cooked al dente and the ragout was out of this world. We had the steak with wood ear mushrooms perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious!! .As for the homemade desserts? To die for. All the dishes and desserts were light with exceptional taste!!!!
We will be back again soon.

Went for Restaurant Week
Went for the restaurant week special. The menu for restaurant week was admittedly uninteresting. Nonetheless, the quality of the cuisine was still very good and the service was excellent. They were very attentive. The decor was nice and the noise level was appropriate, didn't have to shout throughout dinner just to have a conversation.

Dinner and a play
Found this restaurant in Zagat's and chose it for its proximity to the theater. The ambience is very nice--wonderful food and service. Our party of four was very satisfied with their meals.

Sunday Lunch before Show
Perfect for pre theater, as it was just enough of a walk to not need a taxi, but far enough away from Times Square so that we could find very good food. Everything from apps, to dessert were very good, to excellent. For Sunday Pre-Theatre, there were only about 8 people in the whole restaurant, and we loved it. Definitely will make sure we have time to go before or after theatre, to get away from Times Square's awful dining options. Wine list is ok. Plenty of $40ish choices. And, they do allow corkage for $15/bottle. Friendly service.

Just a nice restaurant!
Everyone was very friendly. A nice change! Service was very good, and so was dinner. I can't wait to go back.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was my second visit to this restaurant . Once was for brunch and once was for lunch. Both times were wonderful for me and my friend who I was with. Not one complaint. I would recommend Vice Versa without any reservations (pardon the pun).

A delightful surprise
We had been told that all the Italian restaurants around the theatre district were mediocre at best and all the same.
We picked Vice Versa out of the proverbial' Zagat hat' as it was close to our theatre and to our delight were able to prove all the naysayers wrong! We were a bit surprised to find that the lunch menu was a two course prix fixe meal, but the choices were varied, and prices reasonable. Food was delicious, presentation lovely and service wonderful. The dining room was pleasant and pleasantly quiet, despite a fully booked room. I actually could hear the conversation with my dining partner, a rarity in restaurants these days.
Alas there was no cell phone service!

Terrific Italian in theat district
Vice Versa was great on all counts. Outstanding menu with many variations on familiar Italian favorites, Our table liked the stuffed olives as an appetizer, salads, the grilled swordfish and homemade pasta (whose name eludes me) stuffed with veal. Everyone else loved the strawberry shortcake, but I could have lived without it.
My only caveat: Open Table forced me into a 6pm reservation when I'd have preferred 6:30, yet the restaurant was never more than half full. And the menu is by no means inexpensive, so it's a shame to rush through such a luxurious meal before a show.

Very nice dinner. Dinner was after Sunday Matinee. First visit. I would return.

Consistent good meal in the theatre district. Don't forget to try the lobster-salad appetizer. Pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. A keeper!

Love their signature dish - just remember to specify the portion size. Ate in the garden which is small but so refreshing to on the sidewalk or in the AC.

Solid Upscale Restaurant
We went there for my wife's birthday and the food and portions were excellant. Especially the pasta. Sorry but I cannot remember its name, but my wie ordered it and after tasting it i was jealous. My food was good, hers was fantastic. Dessert was also quite good with a fine selection of Grappas and Ports. My wife ordered the riccota cheese cake and I liked it a lot, which is rare that I like desserts ever.
All in all, a fine experience. I'm not sure if we'll make it back, with so many restaurants to try its difficult after all. But I certainly would like to eat there at least one more time.

Whether you're going to the theatre or jsut want an excellent dinner, Vice Versa is the place to go. Consistently excellent!

Hadn't been to Vice Versa
Hadn't been to Vice Versa in many years. It was nice to come back for dinner. Everything was overall pretty good. The food for me came out very quick after ordering, which I myself don't like. Had the Risotto, was good, a bit bland though. Overall, had a nice time

First time at this restaurant. Excellent. Highly recommended!

I have never been disappointed by ViceVersa. It is consistently reliable for outstanding food and attentive service, and has a lovely front terrace and outdoor patio for two different al fresco dining options.
New management and a new chef have not diminished the overall experience. Although I miss the tapenade and the vanilla and chocolate rice cookies that used to be staples, the mozzarella salad, romaine salad, and casconcelli were as delicious as ever. I tried the macaroni with small meatballs for the first time and I would also recommend it. My mother and I shared 2 salads, 2 appetizer portions of pasta, and one decadent warm chocolate cake. It was plenty of food for a memorable early dinner.
9/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
Nice, quite place w/ great service.
Located in a quiet street, a little out of the way. We had great service from the time we walked in until the moment we left. Overall the food was very good. The cost was very resonable for NY.

A standby that never fades
I've been going to VV since it opened and the service and food continue to be outstanding. Menus are reqularly updated with favorites remaining. Great bartenders and a beautiful room. There's a reason it has lasted.

a find in the upper theatre
a find in the upper theatre district: atmosphere and food up to the standards of a good evening to spend with friends regardless of whether one is going to the theatre. Happy to learn that the kitchen is open until 11pm, which will make it a venue for dinner when the curtain is at 7pm
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice place for a pre-theater
Nice place for a pre-theater dinner. They have a prix fixe menu, which was great. Also, it's located a bit farther away from the theaters than most of the restaurants, so less crowding and bustle, but still an easy walk to the shows.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome for pre-theater, they
Awesome for pre-theater, they take care of you, serve quickly but not rushed and make sure you have plenty of time to get to the theater. Menu is creative and well prepared and plated beautifully, Wine list is well thought out and not a rip off. I have also been there for business during the week and the service is relaxed and except for wednesdays (matinee day). The tables are spaced nicely and the setting is modern and tastefully done.

Went online to find a restaurant near the Gershwin Theatre and came across ViceVersa. Reservations were for 5 and what a pleasant surprise. Food was wonderful and the service was great!
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food and you can actually talk
One of the reasons I love Vice Versa is that the setting is very attractive and it is relatively quiet, so that a nice conversation can be had. Oh, and by the way, the food is more than just good, but consistently extremely good. This is a great place for a business lunch or for a catch-up with a few friends.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great before a show!
We really enjoyed our meal here-- it was in walking distance from both our hotel and the show. The service was fantastic! The starters were good but the main course special was amazing! No room for dessert! And the olive focaccia they served with meal was AMAZING!
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I dined at this restaurant for my friend's birthday, and the experience was fantastic! I have had dinner there a few times before also, and they have never disappointed me! The food was great as always. We ordered a bottle of red wine, a few appetizers, entree, and dessert (I personally had cornish hen for entree, and it was great), and everything was tasty and nicely presented. Their service was amazing as well. The place has a romantic, quiet, and relaxing atmosphere, so we were a little concerned if it would be fine to bring a chile along. They were so accommodating and friendly to the baby! This place is truly a great place to dine if you want to have a pleasant time dining. Highly recommended.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
We loved it!
This was our second visit to Vice Versa and we loved it just as much as the first time. My husband and I split the stuffed olive appetizer and 2 entrees - a pasta and a swordfish special. Everything was wonderful! I had included a note to the restaurant that it was my husband's birthday and they ended our meal with a piece of their delicious lava cake with a candle...very, very nice. We will definitely go again.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a great dinner. Our waiter was so helpful. We would certainly recommend this restaurant to our friend. We will go back.

Lovely Italian spot
Great food in a cozy and charming setting. Terrific service.

great theater district spot
We ate here with our teenage grandson as we had tickets for a theater nearby. The service was so congenial without being overbearing. Our appetizers, caponata and mushroom soup, were excellent and our main courses were very good. The house made ravioli [with veal, raisins, etc.] was sweeter than I remembered and I would have preferred it less sweet. It's nice to have an option in the theater district with good food and ambiance. The dining room was quite empty at 7 when we left; I hope that's not the norm and that Vice Versa continues to make diners happy for a long time to come.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was pretty good but we only had main course. Wine was excelllent

just a great overall dining exper
my mom and i dined here pre theater last evening. the service, food, and overall experience was just excellent. i am always cautious when trying new restaurants but this place is a keeper. my only nitpicky comment was that the music playing throughout my dining experience would not be in line with a) my preference or b) the general atmosphere of restaurant but that's just my opinion.. and would not prevent me from returning again and again.

First Visit to Vice Versa
This was my first visit to Vice Versa, it was recommended by a friend who goes there frequently. I really liked the ambiance and the service was very good. The food was delicious and more than enough. My only complaint was we felt rather rushed through dinner. Now that being said I did mention we had tickets for he theater so perhaps they thought they were doing me a favor.
Otherwise I will definitely return.

This is a wonderful restaurant for pre-theater. The food, service and atmosphere will not disappoint. We were 5 people, 3 have eaten there several times. The 2 that haven't, took business cards so that they can return.

Wonderful pre-theatre restaurant
Wonderful meal, service, ambience. Excellent wine suggestion. Request of a table in view of the garden was honored. Everything was perfect! Saw Billy Crystal in "700 Sundays" after dinner. A perfect evening!
