Wine selection is as advertised second to none. Great food. Our server was fanominale she was great had excellent knowledge of the menu and had a great personality never stopped smiling even though she was busy non stop. Excellent hostess up front made you feel welcome and made the restaurant more inviting. All in all a great experience.

Service was great! Food was really good and wine was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and I plan on going back to try another dish. The Chicken Marsala was very tender and the Salmon was delicious. Prices were very reasonable.

Great little find
This was an excellent restaurant with very good food and an excellent wine flight menu. Everything we ate was well- prepared. Portions were very good and service by our waiter Alex was very attentive. Enjoyed this small cozy gem of a restaurant.

Refined menu with wine flights allowing you to have tastings while enjoying your dinner

Terrific food, outstanding service
We loved it. I had the Kobe burger. It was cooked perfectly, juicy and tasty. We got. Seat right away and service was friendly and timely.

Just the right mix
With friends in from out of town, I wanted a neighborhood feel, good wines, eclectic food...all in the middle of the city (and close to Bart). This was perfect! Wonderful wine flights, great bar appetizers and then substantial entrees all in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Only about 15 or so tables ..cozy. Will definitely come back.

One of my favorite spots
This is one of my favorite spots. Even though it is a bit pricey, it is worth it. The halibut is divine, and the mashed potatoes are just like mom used to make. Looking forward to the next time.

Loved the Big Red wine flight. All three wines were wonderful and I am very picky. The scallop dish was beyond fabulous. Would go there again just for that.

I read about the fabulous
I read about the fabulous food and wine at First Crush on one of my favorite blogs. I immediately checked out the menu and made reservations for my upcoming trip to SF. Hands down, this was one of the best meals of my life. There were 5 people in my party, and we each started with a wine flight. From there we split 3 appetizers, each got an entree sized dinner, and split 3 desserts, one of which was compliments of the house. I can say with the utmost sincerity that this was one of the best meals I've had in my life, and I LOVE to eat. We kept the wine flowing all night, and ended up staying for about 3 hours just enjoying our meal, good conversation, and our first night out in San Fran. If you're in town, I implore you to try First Crush!

Flavorful food great location
We shared a dinner of small plates all of which were very tasty and beautifully presented. The potato gnocchi with fresh vegetables was a favorite and the prawn spring rolls with dipping sauces disappeared quickly. Location is great--steps from shopping and only 3 blocks from the Golden Gate Theater. Staff was attentive and very helpful with the extensive California wine list.

Greeted at the door by a standard
Greeted at the door by a standard reserved for high end dining, this place knows how to start you off right, and get you in a good mood. Menu had many options, all sounded great. We had the chicken marsala & ribeye steak. BOTH phenomenal! Tastey! So good you wanted to share your tastey find, but also so good you wanted to keep it all to yourself. We are wine lovers. This place serves flights of wine. Perfect for when you're not sure which wine you want, or if you want to taste different wines. The brownie dessert was ok. And the coffee & espresso were actually not so good. Definitely not up to the standard of the food. Overall, everything was wonderful, and I'd definitely go again and again

Perfect Beginning to Finish - Bill
The restaurant, ambiance, food and service were exquisite. From the appetizers, entree and dessert First Crush truly fits its name. You will love the first bite and want more just like your first crush. Our table was a group of 8 and everyone was very satisfied.
I would recommend the calamari and oysters (some of the freshest we all had!) for appetizers and you cannot go wrong with any entree. We each chose a different one and all enjoyed the bites.
Try the wine flights ($11-$16) for three wines-- all are amazing .
*ONE DISAPPOINTMENT* In the menu it states parties over 8 will be given a 18.5% gratuity charge. When we got our bill the restaurant charged 20% gratuity. We were going to do a 25% gratuity (that good), kept it at 20%.

Visiting the City
We travelled 50 miles into the City to meet some old friends. Greeted warmly at the entrance, loved the upstairs bar and the general layout of the place. Staff were patient with us as we took a long time to order. Food was excellent, nice menu and a great selection of wine. Loved the seating which could be curtained off for more privacy and noise reduction. We will definitely eat here again.

A delightful dinner and wine
A delightful dinner and wine flights are most original. The Rhones were superb. Only comment is main course was bought before I finished the first course of oysters and I asked for it to be bought back later. All very courteous.

Nice little restaurant tucked away
ALl food was very good and nicely presented - wine list very pricey, but hey, it's downtown San Francisco.

Really enjoyed great food, service, wine list. Most excellent. The chicken was amazing.

Last Minute Success!
We were staying at Parc 55 and almost ate at the hotel. We pulled up open table on our phone and found this restaurant just down the street. Highlights = wine flights, lobster bisque soup, lobster mac and cheese. We had a bunch of small plates and shared everything. Food was very good, service was great! If I find myself in this part of the city again, I'd happily return.

Good food and nice atmosphere!!
Ribeye steak and baby lib are really nice, in good balance both volume and price!!
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best calamari and shrimp frito misto I've had. Really tender. So many times, the calamari is tough and heavily breaded, but not this one -- really light on the breading, so it actually complemented the seafood. Interesting sauce, with scallions and what I think was marinated red and green jalapenos.
I don't want to go on and on about everything, but every dish had that elegant presentation and attention to taste as well as detail. Great wine list. I'm coming back, and bringing people.

A new favorite for us
We had the most fabulous experience here. My cousin and his bride were here from Sicily on their honeymoon and we wanted to take them somewhere close to their hotel (Parc 55 Wyndham) and nice. This exceeded all of our expectations. The food was amazing. And here is what I am happiest to tell you: our server was FANTASTIC. Her name was Rebecca, and she took amazing care of us. Despite the language barrier (my cousin had to translate the ENTIRE menu to his bride), she was patient and helpful, knew the menu, listened to all of our preferences and made suggestions, was friendly and prompt--just the best! Thank you for making a special evening for my family that much more special! We will definitely be back. :)

After looking for restaurants
After looking for restaurants close to the Curran theatre I came upon First Crush. They have a $30 prix fix dinner that was wonderful. I had lobster bisque, salmon and the most delicious white chocolate bread pudding. Overall experience was fabulous.

Fun Night Out
I wish they would update the menu on their website. My husband was all set to have the rack of lamb but when we got there the waiter told us they no longer have that menu item. Halibut was ok but could have been more flavorful. My husbands steak was huge and very good. The drinks are very good! Great bartender!

Lovely romantic dinner
Though we were very close to the other tables, this was a very nice romantic dinner. The food was outstanding, and I loved that you could order wine flights with dinner. I found a wonderful gem that I hadn't tried before. Overall a great experience.

Wonderful Wine Flights
The best reason to visit First Crush is for their wine flights. Each flight has a range of wines that have different strengths representative of the varietal, and all are good to very good wines. The emphasis is on wine, though, and dining companion was disappointed there was no beer on tap. The food is good, with a California-cuisine style, although nothing stands out in particular. We like the small plates, which are enough to satisfy most appetites, especially if you get several and share them. My only complaint is that this is a small restaurant, and the tables are tiny, so if you get wine flights and small plates, something has to go. Service is good, friendly and knowledgeable.

i like their SHN theater special. Just the right serving. Ordered salmon. Would go back to dine if watching future SHN shows.

We love First Crush
This is still one of our favorite restaurants in the city. The lobster mac and cheese is truly the best although they do need to put more lobster in it. The burger and fries were also wonderful. Still not clear on the bread policy. Sometimes we get bread and sometimes we don't. Other tables had it. Every customer should get bread. Excellent wine flight choices. This is a great place to treat yourself to a nice upscale meal.

Impressive food and wine!
My husband and I needed a place to stop in before our show at the Curran. So happy we did! I know Anatolan cafe in Palo Alto and learned that First Crush is a sister restaurant; that was good enough for me. I had a flight of "Big and Bold" reds and my husband had a chard. flight. That was a fun way to choose what glass to have with dinner. We shared several small plates like crab cakes, which were soft, light and delicious and the lobster ravioli. We watched quite a few "large plates" pass by on their way to other dinners and they looked amazing: wild salmon, halibut, steak and a hamburger. The staff was very attentive and you could grab anyone, for another glass of wine or a new napkin, in this small but very cozy cafe.

Nite out with nieces
I first came here as part of a group. I came back because of the great food and a fun wine list. We were all happy. A bit loud.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our waiter needed to listen somewhat better to details - we ordered salmon well done and it came barely cooked - we ordered lamb without potatoes and it was loaded with potatoes. After sending salmon back to get cooked - the food was delicious - no complaints on that end. They took good care of us and even surprised the birthday gal with a dessert and an extra one for the mix up on our meals. Which was appreciated as they did pay attention to the note we put on Open table when making reservations.
Great place for after theatre dinner. Would definitely go again.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had read a number of negative reviews about the service in this restaurant. I found the staff to be very attentive but not hovering. Seated on time, delivery of all courses was timely, food was good. I'd return.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fresh Crush was just a couple blocks from our hotel and had great reviews. The three of us were not disappointed. Shared lovely small plates and flights of wine. We had two salads: arugula, cheese, nuts, and ham; and heirloom tomatoes and watermelon; the shrimp rolls and mixed seafood both were deep fried but lightly. Had three flights of wine (2 white and 1 red)- 3 different wines each so we tried 9 different wines. Bread was also served- ended with tangerine sorbet. The next night I returned with two other friends- had the salmon with crisp chips and lobster ravioli- ended with a tangy lemon tart. Tried three different red flights of wine-

Overall pretty good
We came as a group of 5 out-of-towners from a near-by conference, arriving at 5:30 PM. Food was very good, service was fine. The biggest disappointment was when we asked the waitress for separate checks when ordering and were told that was impossible because she would be very busy by the time we left. These days with computers, I don't think it's too much to ask for separate checks, especially if the waitress is aware of it at the start of a meal. I've been to busier restaurants with larger groups and producing separate checks has not been a problem.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
If you are going the Curran theater, dinner at First Crush before hand is a no brainer. Great food (try the scallops)! And they are extremely nice accommodating a hard schedule for curtain. Overall a great experience!
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect before theatre :-)
Super friendly staff, attentive, courteous and serving us in the perfect pace: not to fast, not to slow -- we had to be out on time for walking to the theater.
Generous wine flight, not to mention the dessert flight :-)
I definitely recommend and plan to be back :-)

Everything but gnocchi
We loved our grilled persimmon salad, the fabulous tuna tartare, the focaccia, but the gnocchi was greasy and not nearly as good as the rest of the items. Our chocolate brownie for dessert was so rich it did not matter that it was small. We shared it and were super satisfied.

Good Choice For a Get-Together
A charming little restaurant off Union Square and the theater district. Prepare to be greeted warmly and served tasty food a resonable prices. I chose it for its several vegetarian selections, but they have pleanty for carnivores, too. I had the roasted beet salad with goat cheese (delicious!), followed by crab cakes (spicy, but good). The four of us shared a bottle of Ridge Zinfandel (fairly priced at $72). Our total check, including tip, was about $250. The service was good, considering how busy they were on a recent Saturday evening. I'd recommend First Crush to those wishing to have a good meal, wine, and and conversation with friends. It's too crowded to be romantic, but it's just right for a group.

A Nice Diner
Per haps not as good as thier repuation but enjoyable. We were greeted by a nice local menu, well prepared food, and a good wine list. The last was a bit contentious becuae there is a lot of hype about this wine list, and while it is good, it is not spectacular. That said we enjoyed our meal, and a nice bottle of wine. There are other restaurants in the general area with similar levels of cuisine, service that is as good or better, and lower prices.

Great before the theatre
The wine flights would be great, but we had to go light before the show. The small plates are fun to share.

We enjoyed a super delicious Thanksgiving dinner at First Crush this year. We had a combination of traditional (but very gourmet) courses, and each selection was perfect. The dining room is very small, but the wait staff was pleasant and attentive, and we could talk to each other easily.

Walking Distance of Union Square
on the corner, a vibrant bar scene and quiet basement-- Food was wonderful and playful; we enjoyed ourselves very much.
We had crab cakes, butternuct squash ravioli, truffle fries, and took home 3 desserts
the food was very flavorful and scrumptious

My girlfriends and I get together every year around this time and we couldn't decide on
a place to eat so we found this place and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance, food and
especially the wine was great. We don't live in the city but we would definitely make another
trip in just to go to this restaurant
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
I have been to this restaurant dozens of times over 10 years and have introduced many people to First Crush. I like their fresh, seasonal menu and the option for wine flights that are affordable. I hope the ownership change does not do anything radical but a few tweeks here and there make sense.

Perfect Pre-Theater Dining
First Crush is a great pre-theatre choice. We were slightly late for our reservation, but they had a table for us ready. We advised the server that we had 8pm tickets, and our dinners were served quickly and with great attention. The wine list is exhaustive, but the server made a great selection for me. Beers and wine to compliment the meals were interesting and different, not the run of the mill. Not a quiet restaurant, but one we will return to.

Before the Play
Found this spot as a pre-show and was very pleased. The Lobster Mac, fritto misto, and scallops were outstanding. Service was prompt and our server made sure we had plenty of time to enjoy the meal and get to the play.
The hamburger and lamb looked great and we will go back for a real dinner.

What a great restaurant a few blocks from union square!! This place had an amazing wine list and a great food selection. Everything prepared had such depth and great flavors and went great with the wine. Fairly small, pretty much reservations are a must on the weekends. But very intimate and great, elegant yet simple decor. Also great cocktail menu!
Would love to come back after work for a cocktail!

Amanda has just bought this place and the portions are very large. Great Value
we went here after seeing Book of Mormon at the Orpheum. A brisk 10 minute walk.
We tried the 3 course prix fixe for $30 menuGnochi was excellent. The kobe burger was good and the bread pudding was very good too

A Yummy Treat near Union Square
Guided by trust in Yelp recommendations, we booked a last-minute reservation via Open Table. Turned out to be one of our memorable meals on a quick get-away in San Francisco. The owner serves as hostess and is as friendly and accommodating as can be. (She spilled a glass of champagne on my wool coat and offered to have it dry cleaned!) Upstairs bar is cozy and charming. Most dining tables are in the basement, quite close together and a bit loud, but still very nice. Food was fab - the day's special lobster mac and cheese for me and crispy, done-to-perfection salmon for him. Really great bread, too! Cute place, good service, yummy food.

Interesting menu, excellent food, very friendly staff. Small place with a vibrant atmosphere. Reasonable prices. It was our first but will not be our last visit !
