There was some confusion as a new menu had just debuted and a few items were unavailable, but overall we had a really fine meal. About the ambience: too bad one must squeeze past the kitchen to get to the dining room, and the view of the alley past the W/C is sad.

Excellent place for dinner. Have also gone several times for lunch.
Only complaints are that they were out of something on the menu each time I go and it's very noisy at dinner.
Food and service always excellent. Good selection of drinks, great desserts, etc. Will continue to go to Petit Robert.

great experience at Petit Robert
Our first visit, and I can't wait to return. Food, drinks, wine were superb.
5/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food at Petit Rober is exceptional !!
We used to frequent this neighborhood Restaurant much more often
However the prices for all the sides have increased dramatically
Along with the entrées.
As much as we love the food it isnot a place that we can frequent once a week,
The restaurant has not been crowded recently
I'm quite sure that's the reason
We were there the other night 4 of us
Everyone enjoyed their meal !!
Two of my friends are very fussy.

our favorite neighborhood joint in the South End. good food, very friendly bartenders (esp'ly Jeremy & Bruno) and a nice, relaxed setting.

Visit on 5/30/13
First time at this neighborhood bistro on Columbus Avenue. The location offers both comfortable & tasteful inside dining as well as a limited number of outside tables.
Service was attentive and friendly - pacing was just right. Food was exceptional - perfectly prepared and artfully plated without being overdone. Desserts were relatively simple, but good.
I would strongly recommend this location (Petit Robert has 3 restaurants in Boston, so this review is exclusive to the Columbus Ave, location) for excellent food in a warn, comfortable setting. Happened to notice during our visit that sewveral other diners were French (at least they were speaking French), so we took that as a pretty positive sign that this place is the real thing.
5/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The menu was nicely varied and we were all pleased with our selections. Portion sizes were moderate and all were well presented and prepared. The staff was polite, knowledgable and appropriately attentive. The ambiance, however, was a bit lacking. Patrons must enter and exit through a cramped bar and service area and the tables in the dining room are uncomfortably close together. That being said, our experience was pleasant and enjoyable.

spring sidewalk dining
I took my beau for dinner, for his birthday, as he'd been talking about French dining for, oh, forever. I chose Petit Robert because they listed a vegan entree (unheard of!! for a French restaurant) so I could do more than watch him eat - only one, but we're not planning to go every week so I was pleased. If they had more than one option for me, I would have given the food a 5 star :-) Excellent ambiance, we ate outside and it was perfect - the food, the wine, the service. Definitely try this one.

France would be proud of this restaurant! We were 6 at the table and had steak frites, vegetables with couscous, salmon and roasted chicken. Everyone at the table was pleased! The sauces were light, but rich. I had the "Steak Frites"; my french fries were "a point", and my steak was perfect- well cooked with a slight hint of pink and not dry.
The drinks were wonderful! I had a glorious Berry martini and after the meal, someone at the table had a capuccino martini that was absolutely exquisite. Dessert was excellent; I had a crêpe suzette that was wonderful. This was a special birthday for me that I will never forget. The service was wonderful and I can only recommend this restaurant as it is now my favourite in Boston.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went to Petit Robert in Kenmore Square. It was good, I am glad they had more interesting things on the menu than the usual "chicken, salmon' steak" choices. Sylvia

a nice neighborhood bistro
good food, varied menu, good prices, friendly service & nice setting.

Wonderful neighborhood restaurant!
This restaurant is always our pick for special occasions. The food is always wonderful and the service is friendly and attentive.

Food was great, very interesting
Food was great, very interesting flavors. Martinis were also good and generous. I gave it a 4 overall and 3 for ambience only because it was a hot night and the restaurant was very warm. Also, we ordered two items from the menu (one dessert, one after-dinner drink) that they were out of. Overall, though, the Columbus Ave location is a lovely restaurant in a nice neighborhood with superb food and excellent service and I would definitely go back.

Why order off the menu?
My sister and I went last night to Petit Robert and had a splendid meal. We asked the waitress to surprise us and gave her a little guidance (e.g. we LOVE foie gras and my sister doesn't like lamb) and gave her a $200 limit. For far less than the limit we had a multi-course meal with different pairings for each of us and only some of the items were from the menu.
I like to say when I go to restaurants I trust that I am in your hands as you are the expert; this is a place I felt fully comfortable doing so as they rose to the occasion.
The foods I would recommend include the foie gras (it is slightly softer than elsewhere and went perfectly well with the strawberry compote), the escargot (save some bread for the butter), and the gnocchi!

Our experience started on
Our experience started on a very positive note with our server. Unfortunately, I did not get his name. I ordered the scallops, which were perfect! I would definitely order them again. Other dishes that were ordered were the salmon and the liver with onions. Both diners were very pleased with their choices. For dessert, we ordered sorbet and the tarte tatin. They were a great way to end a memorable meal.
7/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
All of our straters and the bread were fantastic - escargot, tuna tartar, gazpacho. Two people were disappointed by the scallops - very bland. The other two entrees were great, though. We'd go back, especially for drinks and apps.
7/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I just love this place. Reliably good, reasonably price! Perfect neighborhood place!
7/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
The food here is delicious! When you're missing Parisian cuisine, this is an excellent option! Of course, nothing compares to French food in France, but Petit Robert has many classic French dishes–paté, foie gras, confit du canard (bien sûr!)–that are so rich and flavorful. I had the above mentioned dishes at the Kenmore location, and they were fabulous. I came to the South End location for Brunch. The french toast was simple but ranked among the top 2 french toasts we've ever had! The eggs benedict was also delicious and came with a mountain of salad and french fries. The staff also handles food allergies quite well.
7/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and great dining al fresco but indoors at this location could get pretty loud, I suspect.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
We attended Le Petit on Sat night. The experience was outstanding, the food was flawless and the service fantastic and personable. We can't wait to go again and in fact have already set a date for Sept with my Aunt & Uncle. Thank you for making our "date night" wonderful!!!

Like being back in Paris
Have been meaning to try Petit Robert for some time and so glad we went. Food, ambiance, service all excellent. Can't wait to go back again!
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place has a lot going for it. Perfect size, friendly staff, very good food, and ambiance. We had the escargot for an app and it was very good. The entres were fabulous and wine was a perfect match. The only downer was desert which did not meet expectations. Highly recommend PRB.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
We took an interesting walk in the neighborhood from our Huntingdon Street hotel to this bistro type restaurant. It was nice out so we ate outside. The food and the wines were great and the atmosphere friendly. It felt like a neighborhood bistro in Paris with dogs allowed to sit with their owners (at least outside). We had a great time, and were never rushed. Since we were outside there was no music to bother us (I am very intolerant of music in restaurants), but some traffic noise. All in all we had a wonderful time.

We sat outside and enjoyed
We sat outside and enjoyed our visit to this very nice neighborhood bistro on a Sunday night. Excellent service.

Sidewalk dining in the South End
Petit Robert Bistro is one of my first choices to go to when I'm in Boston. The quality of the food (for me, tuna tartare appetizer and duck confit main - yum!), the reasonable price point of the entrees, and the friendliness and skill of the servers all contribute to a satisfying experience. We sat at one of the tables that are available for sidewalk dining and the weather (August in Boston) really cooperated. The predicted rain did not materialize and the temperature was delightful. The only "off note" was beyond the restaurant's control: one impatient idiot who laid on his horn when traffic (in front of the restaurant) didn't move fast enough.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lively outdoor scene
Very vibrant fun spot, with very good food and service.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Restaurant Week meal!
Two friends ordered the chicken selection and enjoyed dinner-size meals for lunch. My bluefish and lentils dish wasn't as generous but it was very, very tasty. Sunday at 12:30 it was quiet inside but there were plenty of diners at the sidewalk tables. We plan on going back when it's not Restaurant Week.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our server, a young woman from France, was exceptional. Very friendly, very attentive. The roast chicken was delicious...perfectly cooked with a very good portion. The chocolate mousse was the best I've ever had. I can't wait to return.

Petit Robert consistently delivers. The food, wine, service, and ambience never disappoint. I have been to this particular location of Petit Robert numerous times, and have never had a less than wonderful experience. It's a great place for a romantic dinner for two or a small group of friends or family. Petit Robert is truly a pleasurable dining experience!

Can't Go Wrong
Petite Robert Bistro is a great, reasonably priced bistro. I wish they had a location on the South Shore! We've been to each of their locations and we've always been very pleased. Can't go wrong!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been to the Petit Robert Bistro for dinner before and totally enjoyed it. Had lunch here and the other day and was not disappointed. Our waiter was charming and efficient. Lunch was peaceful, as the restaurant was not crowded on this Wednesday afternoon. Although there was construction going on in half of the restaurant, everything went smoothly. I look forward to returning and sampling more of their wonderful French fare.

Great French food!
Food was delicious and tasted very authentic. I've been a few times before. This last time I went with my boyfriend and parents and we had a great time. My family went to Paris about five years ago and this menu definitely took us back to our trip. There were French people sitting next to us, which is a good indicator of the authenticity. The dim lighting was romantic, but at the same time the mood felt lively. It was a little hard to hear at times, but did not really take away from the experience.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great service, very good food!
We were very pleased with our visit. The food was, as usual, very good. We liked that there were plenty of good wines offered by the glass. Our party had a person in a wheelchair. The staff could not have been more accommodative. The waitstaff never rushed us. It was a wonderful, relaxed evening. Besides us, our out of town guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. At the end of our dinner visit, a staffer (female) went out of her way to secure a taxi. We thanked her but wish had asked her name so she could be recognized in a meaningful way by the establishment.

Un bistro authentique!
An excellent menu, with authentic French roots. The food was prepared in a traditional French manner and the atmosphere has the charm of small neighborhood bistros I experienced in France.

For its reasonable price range,
For its reasonable price range, Petit Robert is the best and most authentic French dining I've found in Boston. The South End location is my go-to dinner destination when friends are visiting.

Cozy little spot
We loved our dinner at Petit Robert Bistro! We could hear ourselves talk, the wine was scrumptious, and the foie gras to die for (we chose the seared option). Portions were generous but not gluttonous, and the service was warm and attentive. We'll definitely be going back!
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
happy I came
Brought my wife and young adult children. Good food, good atmosphere, good service, in a neighborhood gem.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Never a disappointment
This is the fourth Petit Robert Bistro my husband and I have visited, the first one being the Kenmore Square location. After dining at the Columbus Avenue location, this has become our favorite. The food is always dependable, delicious and fairly-priced. The servers at Columbus Avenue were friendly and efficient and although very busy, took the time to chat and joke. This is a convenient location to attend various events in the avenue which we were headed for this evening.

Always love this place
I love their oven-roasted fish! And the cocktails!

Something Very Special
There are foods I like that aren't available in my supermarket or at other restaurants I visit: organ meats in particular. So I love being able to get foie gras poêle as an appetizer and tripe as a main course at Petit Robert. Both were very tasty. Of course, there are also plenty of offerings made from more usual ingredients such as beef, chicken, salmon, pork, lamb, and duck.
Service was perfectly attentive.
The ambience is unspectacular, but pleasant — a long, narrow storefront for the main dining room.
On a Thursday evening, it was quiet.
I'll definitely return as opportunities arise — hopefully for my theater evening early next month.

Petit Robert Redeemed
This was my umpteenth visit to Petit Robert on Columbus. It has long been a favorite for meeting friends for dining. However, our last birthday dinner here had been disappointing both in service and quality of the food, so there was a bit of hesitation to come back for my favorite forbidden food -- foie gras. Apps and entrees were fabulous (mushroom soup, cod and fish special). Only the sautéed mushrooms were less than delicious. I am so delighted that my fave is back.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great for brunch
I have visited two of their locations and I would really recommend Petit Robert. I especially like how I can always get a reservation for a Sunday brunch without booking weeks in advance.

Restaurant was cozy, romantic
Restaurant was cozy, romantic (low light). I went with a group of 5 and everyone enjoyed the food and wine. Food was superbly I wnet on a Saturday night and the restaurant was
buzy. The noise level was very energenic
due to the small space. Food and wine list
were fantastic as was the service. I would
go again. TC

Good food prepared well.
Food is excellent. Wine list short, but nice choice at reasonable prices. Mostly French. Wait staff not attentive. Could have used more wait staff, I'd still go again, the food makes it worth it.

Great restaurant, authentic food! The only complaint I had was a small one with the valet. The guy charged us twice and luckily we caught the mistake.
