Great Italian Pastas
We were going to a 9:45 show at Cobb's Comedy Club and wanted to find a reasonably priced but good restaurant in the area. Panta Rei was a great find! Food was amazing. The Linguine Neri was one of the best pasta & seafood dishes I have ever had. The raviolis that others had were equally good. They have a very reasonably priced wine list of mostly Italian wines. Tiramisu for desert was a winner. 4 people for dinner with splitting an appetizer and a desert, four pasta dishes,a side of asparagus,a bottle of wine and an espresso with sambuca for about $150 including tip! I'd go back here in a heartbeat. I wish it were closer to Pleasanton; I'd eat there weekly! You can't go wrong here and as a Native New Yorker I'm picky about Italian.

Italian Gem in North Beach
Great meal. Very authentic. Lively wait staff. Had the gnocchi with shrimp in a pesto sauce and it was fabulous. Our waiter was crazy running back and forth from table to table. He was a real Italian too! My son had fun talking to him in Italian. Highly recommend this place.

This was about my seventh
This was about my seventh time to Panta Rei, and it didn't disappoint once again! We had a party of four and all the food was fantastic (filet mignon, gnocchi, sea bass and veal), as well as the dessert of tiramisu!

We went for lunch on a Saturday,
We went for lunch on a Saturday, we got there just after they opened (they were still printing the menu for the day). We had a craving for pasta, and since it is harder to find good Italian in Southern CA - we indulged at lunch. We had a great seat by the window, there were also several table outside on the sidewalk. Overall it was good. My wife had the three pasta special. The ravioli (cream sauce) and farfel (pink sauce) were excellent. The gnocchi, less so. I had a spinach and sausage fettuccini with a cream sauce (overall, more cream/pink sauces that I would have expected). It was excellent. The bread was fresh baked and had a great texture and was fantastic with the olive oil. I'd like to go again in an evening.

Located in old US Restaurant
Located in old US Restaurant space where Columbus and Stockton streets meet. Restaurant is small with LOTS of windows, so any seat in the house is great. All staff is very welcoming and friendly. Great place to get a good Italian meal!

My experience with Panta Rei was excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had a coupon that I realized I couldn't use on Friday night, so the waiter brought a complimentary desert. The carpaccio was delicious and the salmon was cooked perfectly.
All in all, a very positive experience and I will go back.

Great place for an outdoor dining. We love dining here with our dog sitting outside watching people go by and enjoying the food.

Delicious and Fun!
The menu has so many delicious sounding items it's hard to choose, but you can ask your server (Gianni was ours), who will happily provide suggestions. Gianni is very animated and a delight to be around. The food here is prepared very well, everything I tried was delicious! Would highly recommend. If you're in the main dining room, there's a TV for you to catch the game too.

We tried this restaurant for the first time and thought that the food was wonderful, the staff great and loved the location right in North Beach. We will be returning here soon, next time we are in San Francisco.

Best Italian Food for the $.
I have been dining at North Beach (and the entire Bay Area) since 1972 and I can safely say that Panta Rei is the best Italian food for the money in the Bay Area. Their menu is extensive and their desserts are exquisite. The portions are generous. They have a full bar and their house wines are great. I ordered the Caesar Salad and it was fresh and crispy. Their sea bass was cooked to perfection. I ordered the linguini neri and it was delicious. I ordered the Tiramisu which is made inhouse. Try the espresso Martini for dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was my first time and I will go back again. The service is excellent.

With so many Italian restaurants to choose from in North Beach, this IS the one to visit! Save room for the tiramisu!!

Right mix of great food/liveliness
Food is creative and tasty with fresh pasta and great sauces. Service is very good as servers usually have big personalities. Nice spot for a romantic dinner or with a small group of friends.

Great dinner with a variety of choices. Sauces were not too heavy, and plenty of meals ranging from pasta to duck, fish, veal, lamb and beef. Tiramisu is excellent as was the chocolate souffle.

Heart of north beach
Great spot for people watching on Columbus. Good solid Italian food, great waiters, always crowded, so Open Table a reservation!
We had well-behaved kids with us, but if you allow yours to wander around, go elsewhere. It's an adult place, and we loved it. The menu has the usual Italian fare, and was better than ordinary but no surprises. The tiramisu is light and delicious.

Don't be fooled by the simple decor. Very authentic Italian food. Staff is very friendly. I would definitely go back.

Yummy Italian Restaurant!
We arrived a little late but the staff was very accommodating and let us sit by a window in the back. This is a wonderful gem of a restaurant that my husband and I really enjoyed. The ingredients are super fresh and the taste yummy! We both ordered pastas that had a great flavor - they were on the menu as the handmade noodle specials. We also got an appetizer of artichoke spread which was wonderful. It's great how the menu changes daily as it tells me that the chef likes to explore the culinary palate. I've been to many restaurants in the N. Beach area and this by far is now in my top 3 restaurants. The setting was good for people watching and the Italian wait staff was wonderful too! Will definitely go back.

Half sports bar, half Italian rest.
Good food, good service but IMHO overpriced, esp. for that sports bar ambience.

Both the service and food amazing! Will def come back!

I was taken to Panta Rei - a personal favorite - for my birthday. Excellent food, great singing for my birthday!

delicious Italian food
I always like going to Panta Rei. My favorite entrees are those made of squid ink - pasta, polenta, risotto. Their layered mocha martini is to die for! Service is always great.

Great Fit for Good Friends!
Our evening at Panta Rei marked our first time at the restaurant, and everyone in our party of five had a wonderful time! Our waiter was extremely attentive to our needs without being unduly intrusive. He was also very knowledgeable about each of the items on the evening's menu, and was able to make very insightful recommendations in response to our party's inquiries. The food service was prompt and the portions were very generous and well-prepared. I will definitely return again when the opportunity presents itself!

Great Street-Side Dining!
Food was great! The pastas were al dente where my girlfriend had the duck tagliatelle that was off the charts delicious. I had the gnocchi which was great too, but she just picked the better dish haha! Nice patio tables similar to what you would find in Italy, perfect on a nice afternoon or evening to soak up the city. Plus you can make everyone jealous of the delicious food and wine you're drinking!

As close to eating in a restaurant in Rome as possible in the US - owned by Italians, Italian Chef, Italian waiters. Food was outstanding; and has been every time I have dined there.

Ate here on previous trip to SF and while attending a play in the area. Service is very pleasant and food is good. Very reasonably priced.
DH had lasagna which he enjoyed and I had salmon w/asparagus. We shared a clam/mussle appy which was excellent
Would definately return when in SF

What a great little restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. The best part is parking garage is just around the corner. The tiramisu is one of the best I've ever tasted and they sing a mean Happy Birthday! I would recommend people to go visit this little gem.

Francesco our server was friendly and attentive. Made us feel like family. We started with sharing a dish of spinach gnochi with salmon and porcini mushrooms that was to die for. Could have had a whole plate just of that. Salmon entree and Lamb Osso Bucco were very tasty. Plentiful portions. Tiramasu for dessert was a top 2 of all the Tiramasu I have ever had.
Overall a great dining experience.

Good kitchen, decent svc., too loud
I don't know why so many restaurants allow out-of-control noise levels. Panta Rei could easily install simple acoustic damping with small fabric panels hung from the ceiling. Their concrete, pie-slice-shaped room seems large but amplifies the noise. Restaurants that do this, like Firefly, are so much more pleasant for conversation.
Lighting in the center of the room is uneven; we asked for a table switch because the harsh light on my seat made me feel like an interrogation was coming.

I was looking for a moderately priced venue to take a first date. A friend suggested that I try Panta Rei, and what a great recommendation! Our reservation was for 7:00pm, and the place was not too busy or loud. We showed up early to grab a drink at the bar and was greeted at the door by a friendly Italian speaking hostess. She walked us to the bar and told us that our table would be ready for us as soon as we were ready to be seated. The bartender who served us was engaging and witty, although, no special drinks here, standard juice mixes. With that being said, the bar atmosphere is nice. Our waiter was very informative and made great suggestions, Pappardelle Verdi All'Anatra and Tagliolini Al Pollo. Will be going back!
