Service very slow but had
Service very slow but had many large parties because two local colleges graduated that day and it was Mother's Day weekend. Food not spectacular. Other restaurants in area do better dining

Mother's Day Brunch
Tristan contributed significantly to our Mother's Day dining experience. Their brunch menu offered creative and mouth watering selections. Each course was delightfully presented and a dining sensation. Service was outstanding as well. Thank you Tristan!!

Superb Tasting Menu
Really enjoyed the 5 course Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. Food and presentation were outstanding and just right portions. Wine pairings were perfect.

One of the best evolutions...
While visiting Charleston recently, we dined at Tristan, having noted their menu outside the night before. While the items on the menu looked good, nothing prepared us for the way dinner was served.
We chose the Chef's tasting, 7-items, along with half glasses of wine which paired perfectly with each course. While the plates were small (not a problem for us -- we'd rather have a little bit of really good than a lot of not good), by the end of dinner we couldn't fit another bite.
The servers were at the top of their game. Dinner was elegantly presented, and the servers described each dish in detail and answered any questions we had. They were attentive, responsive, and a pleasure to speak with.
It was one of the best dinners EVER.

The wait-staff, and everyone else we met, were all very friendly, very knowledgeable and very enthuiastic. The food was both adventuresome and outstanding. From preparation to plating, all of our courses were as wonderful as they were innovative.

Tristan - Recommended
With a last minute reservation I was able to get a table at Tristan. It was something of a belated Birthday dinner for a friend. The staff were aware and were very good and attentive. Questions were answered with confidence and knowledge. The food was excellent, presentation superb, great service. Surprised it wasn't busier for such a busy weekend in Charleston. Not compaining though!
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I had the 7 course tasting menu with wine parings. The flavors were complimentary. The service was perfect. We would sincerely go back. Pricey and worth every penny.
6/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our party of four dined on the five course tasting menu with the wine pairings. It was the perfect amount of food and accompanying wine. Each course was well thought out and inventive without losing the character of the food. Service was attentive but not obtrusive.

Second time just as good
Tristan's is a metropolitan restaurant that stands out from the many also-wonderful Charleston restaurants that specialize in Low County staples such as shrimp and grits. Located in the French Quarter hotel, it offers valet parking, a much-appreciated perk in a town with limited and expensive garage parking downtown. Our first visit we tried the tasting menu; this time we selected entrees, including Scottish salmon, scallops. All were outstanding. The dessert chef is especially creative. We had expert service. It was an evening to remember. (And they remembered it was a birthday dinner, writing "Happy Birthday" in chocolate of the plate of my chocolate mousse dessert.)
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tristan's was a wonderful, unique birthday dinner that I will never forget. First, the service is outstanding. Their attention to detail is very impressive, from the service to the plates...wow wow. Plate presentation is so unique and just looking at the food makes your mouth water. Everything tasted great, including the drinks. We'll definitely be back!
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
The chef has come up with some innovative and creative dishes all beautifully presented.

My Fav place
this is my favorite place to eat in Charleston - the food is great and only surpassed by the service
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Dinner and service were outstanding; some of the best short ribs I have ever had. The presentation was beautiful too.

Our first time at Tristan;
Our first time at Tristan; we were celebrating our 4th Anniversary. The food was great and the service was fabulous. We were there on a weeknight; it was quiet. I would recommend Tristan for special occasions; or if you want to impress a first or second date. We will do this again!
7/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
What does gourmet mean to you?
The food was really good...sampled all entrees in our family. Wished we could have done Chef's presentation, but our two teens were too reluctant to buy into that. Scallops were very well prepared..short ribs and duck also...the presentation of the food (small portions on one side of very large plates) reminded us that the place was a bit pricey per ounce. Desserts were very best part of the meal. Lots of service staff for the number of diners. "Treats" between courses were pleasant surprises and conversation items.

Tristan deserves all the accolades
Tristan deserves all the accolades it receives. It also deserves more customers- the Friday evening we were there saw a very light number of diners . Too bad. They don't know what they're missing.
Wake up Charleston; you have an excellent restaurant in Tristan.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really enjoyed our evening here. The service was better than anywhere else I've ever been - these guys are professionals. The team brought customized palette cleansers between each course. They made thoughtful, but not intrusive recommendations. The food was lovely, but would like to go back and try the tasting menu.

A must visit!
We ended up at Tristans because we had difficulty getting reservatiins at some of the well known spots such as FIG. So glad we dined here because the food and service were spectacular! The homemade breads and unique comninations of flavor made the food fabulous. More people should add this restaurant to their must visit list while in Charleston. In addition complimentary valet parking was an added bonus!

Great food - small portions
The food was great - what there was of it. The chef was outstanding and attentive - sending samples to the table of tasty fare. If you are looking for a romantic spot and you have at least $$$ to spend - this is the place for you. But be prepared to have a back-up meal relatively soon because you will feel the hunger pangs within an hour or so after dining. The atmosphere, décor, service, and attentiveness to your needs are superb. Just need a little more food on my plate.
Suggestions: (1) Please include healthy choices (i.e. 100% whole grain breads and pastas, Fat-free and low calorie dressings and sauces, etc.); (2) Broaden your wine list to include sweet wines: blackberry, plumb and Sparkling Miscato & MR Asti Spumante.

Food was good and inventive,
Food was good and inventive, but for the price, more unique dining experiences can be had in Charleston. Decor is attractive but beginning to become dated. Overall, the pricing exceeded the overall quality of the food, service, and environment.

A dining experience
5 course tasting menu was an experience ( once again) not to be forgotten. Nate came out to the table and discussed some of the nuances that go into his style of art.
All I can say is do NOT go to Tristans for a meal. Go to Tristans for an experience you'll never forget.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything that came from the kitchen was delicious and executed very well, and it was a beautiful restaurant....... But there was no one else there I don't understand.
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Setting is upscale, chef is inspired- and both food and staff were sublime!
We were treated like family, and the Restaurant Week menu was out of this world.
We will be back!

Restaurant Week Super Experience
We did the 4 for $40 and each course was spectacular. From service to wine to food. It was the best Restaurant Week in highly competitive Charleston we have had in many years
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was wonderfully fabulous - from the prompt, professional service to the absolutely delicious food there was not one thing wrong with our fine dining experience.

It was great service and food! A great 4 course menu for restaurant week!
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food here is a culinary masterpiece that will leave your palate dancing with happiness for days. Wonderful balance of flavors, beautiful presentations, complex yet somehow not ostentatious. The service was wonderful with all of the staff jumping in to help with whatever needs to be done. They ride the line of very formal (always serving from one side and taking away from the other, placing your napkin for you etc) but manage to not make if uncomfortable if that isn't your usual scene. The wine list is absolutely impressive but daunting and would take a solid 30 minutes to actually read through so if you want wine have a peek before you go in or give yourself plenty of time. Will be returning when we have saved more money!

An eating experience
For Restaurant Week, Tristan had a set menu and that is what we went with. We also included the wine pairings. Each course was delicious, unusual mix of favors, and well presented. The staff was extremely helpful, knowledgable, pleasant and personable. We tried 3 restaurants this week, and we decided Tristan's was the most interesting dining experience.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another local and I tried
Another local and I tried this restaurant during Restaurant Week with a couple from out of town. We all agreed that it was a wonderful dining experience. One of our out of town guests is a wine buyer for a grocers and she thought the wine pairings were great. All of us have traveled all over the world and the experience was right up there with the best of our dining experiences in places like Spain, Italy and parts of SE Asia.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Totally delighted and expectations surpassed with all aspects of the evening. Attentiveness and friendliness of the staff, timing of the delivery, presentation of the courses, and the exquisite flavors of the selections were all absolutely outstanding.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tristan's is, by far, the most tasty, elegant and enjoyable
eating experience in Charleston. As a New Yorker, I find the
general standard of dining below my 70 plus years of experience.
Tristan's is one of the very few exceptions. Great service, wine selection
and menu. Can't wait to go back.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
out of sight gem
I wanted to dine somewhere I'd never been before. Tristan is not new and I could not think of a reason I had not tried it. Now I think it may have been on the back burner simply because it is not as visible as many of the finer Charleston restaurants. It is off the lobby of a hotel and not visible from King or Meeting Streets. After dining there on a recent saturday night, it shares a spot in my favorites list. Not only was the food delicious, it was a picture for the eyes. The beet salad should be painted by someone, lovely and wonderful. The space is quiet, formal and elegant. Valet parking takes the bite out of Charleston congestion.
While I was there I made a reservation for 10 for an upcoming event. It was that good.

Chef Nate and staff continue
Chef Nate and staff continue to create a great dining experience for those seeking an inventive departure from the Lowcountry influence that dominates the Charleston scene. Qualtiy of prep and presentation don't disappoint. Creativity abounds from the amuse to the treats acommpanying the check.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We live in Charleston and are accustomed to outstanding restaurants. Tristan is definitely one of the five best restaurants we've encountered in Charleston. The service was impeccable, every dish was absolutely delicious, and the meal was beautifully presented. We were impressed with how creative the menu was-- just enough different from your standard, up-scale Charleston restaurant to make it distinctive and interesting. And the decor of the restaurant is elegant, yet very comfortable. Every time we eat at Tristan we walk out going, "we've got to make sure to eat there more often." Located just off the Market, it is definitely a place we would recommend to anyone wanting a fine dining experience.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
great as usual
we always do the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings.
my favorites so far have been a corn chowder with crab and she-crab ravioli. they have the best crab and scallop dishes, and the purees are fantastic

Melt in your mouth food.
This restaurant has unbelievable flavors of food in the downtown charleston area my husband and I found. Although they are small portions, that is not what counts. It is the taste of the food that overwhelms you and fills you up. After an appetizer, a drink, my entrée, and dessert I was absolutely satisfied. Everything was the perfect portion, and just the right amount. We finished up every crump and dressing that was left on our plate. The service was great, as well as all of the staff members.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I ate here this last Saturday evening. I ordered the pumpkin tortellini entree. The texture and taste of the pumpkin filling was incredible. You could taste the pumpkin without the typical pumpkin pie spices you seem to get everywhere else. The earl gray brown butter sauce complimented it so perfectly. My husband had the beef short rib. He said is was very tender and delicious. We tried 2 different desserts - the plumb crumble reconsidered and a pumpkin dessert. The different flavors and textures were wonderful and kept every bite exciting. Highly recommend trying this place! It's a gem and a great place to have a lovely dinner that is something a little different than what seems to be offered everywhere else.

Best dining in Charleston
This chef is all about the food. Creative, artistic, at times whimsical, flavors are both nuanced and bold in perfect harmony. Combinations are clever and sophisticated. We are in Charleston for dining several weeks a year and stay current on the dining scene, but this is the restaurant we never miss. We always have the chef's seven-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and we are always impressed and delighted!
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really enjoyed Tristan
I travel to charleston for business often and have dined in most of this great city's best restaurants. This was my first visit to Tristan and I must say that it is really second to none. The menu is inventive and unusual and the staff were all very knowledgable and attentive. I would highly recommend Tristan to anyone.

First time there. Service
First time there. Service and food was top notch. Will plan to always go back everytime we are in Charleston.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food better than anything else
When one first arrives you are struck by the cold decor. Then you receive the menu, which was not impressive.
Then the food arrives and you are sent into culinary orbit.
11/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
Every time I dine @ Tristan, the food is the stare of the show. The pine smoked scallops served on a seared pine plank were nothing short of perfect. Service was good, though I have had better at Tristan. Last time I was there, the server did an excellent job "collaborating" with the mood of the table. This time, the server was good, but determined to do HER thing with less regard to what my guesta and I were trying to accomplish. Still an outstanding experience.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent food impeccably served
Menu choices are not extensive but the quality of the dishes was excellent and the presentation imaginative. The restaurant is quite easily accessible for anyone with limited mobility, i. e no steps to enter, valet parking from a covered circular driveway, ample room for a wheelchair. It is also quiet enough for conversation. We found the service staff to be a bit "too attentive" in that our conversation was interrupted several times by well-intentioned inquiries intended to meet any needs we might have.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
In Charleston? Don't Miss Tristan
We had an outstanding meal at Tristan on Thanksgiving day. The reconstructed roast turkey and North Carolina flounder were spectacular. The service was as good as the food. What a wonderful experience!

Different from what I'm used to
Growing up in a small town outside of buffalo, we never experienced something like this with the ambience, elegance and service. A big night out was going to ponderosa, so this was different and at first glance I thought maybe it was a little much than I bargained for but the prices were fairly priced for the value and taste of the food. We were served politely and timely, they were accommodating even when my party had challenges to make it on time for our reservation and they were informative without being pushy. This small town guy was nervous at first but it turned out to be an awesome experience.
