not what it used to be
Shun Lee Cafe has had some sort of identity crisis or financial problems or both. Last year they cut the portion sizes of main dishes by about 1/3, but now the portions are back but the prices are up 25-30% for mains. Each dim sum is now $7.50. It does not work for me, especially in a room where the next table is at your elbow and squeezing in and out isn't so easy.

We went here before an early
We went here before an early show at Lincoln Center, which started at 7 p.m. Had a reservation here for 5:15 which was sort of ridiculously early - but gave us plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. Dinner? We had wonton soup and tons of dim sum, which they bring around in rolling carts. Everything we chose was delicious and the wait staff explained any item you didn't know very well. Truth to tell, we rather pigged out on the dim sum - and loved every minute of it!

The food is always hot, tasty
The food is always hot, tasty and quick which we appreciate as we usually eat here before a Lincoln Center event. The Dim Sum is even quicker. The restaurant decor is cheerful and bright and represents a good value considering the neighborhood.

A favorite for years
Reliably delicious, fresh and hot Cantonese food including dim sum. Fast and friendly. Healthy and not filling. Great before a Lincoln Center performance.

One of my favorite places
One of my favorite places to eat. Fun decor, great food, excellent service. Love the dim sum carts and the spicy cabbage. (Bought their cook book on one of my many trips there.)

The Cafe Beats the Restaurant
The Cafe has basically the same menu as the restaurant, plus dim sum. But it beats it in one important respect: the tables are not jammed in cheek by jowl as they are in Shun Lee proper, and as a result it's noticeably quieter.

The dim sum is delicious, although rather pricy. Be prepared for noise, but excellent food.

Lincoln Center pre theater
We had a light pre theater supper which was excellent. The food and service were very good and the location is perfect.

Shun Lee Cafe
Shun Lee Cafe has really delicious and varied dim sum. Being right across the street from Lincoln Center, we find it a great place to go before matinee performances.

Great for a pre-ballet/.theatre/opera dinner. Delicious Chinese food and cocktails.

Dim Sum across from Lincoln Center
The variety of dim sum at this busy, noisy place across the street from Lincoln Center makes it our choice of before-performance lunch. Only downside is the high noise level every time we've been there.

Something for everyone
I was with a group of friends who all like to eat different things -- vegetarian, fish, meat -- and Shun Lee Cafe provided the perfect menu. The vegetarian had many choices, as did the non-meat, but fish-eaters. The food was very good and the service was excellent. It was the right choice for my friends and me for a pre-ballet dinner.

Shun Lee Cafe
Delicious dim sum. The down-side to the restaurant is that it's noisy, but the food is excellent. Good variety. Our go-to place before concerts at Lincoln Center.

Good choice for local dim sum with the menu for the more formal Shun Lee West also available. However, the prices do seem unnecessarily high ($25 for a straightforward though ample chicken chow mein). Enjoyed the dim sum but it didn't seem as fresh at 9pm as when I have been there earlier in the evening. Nice for a quick relaxed dinner.

Dim sum and more
We enjoy the informality of the Cafe, the quickness of the service, and the variety of dishes. I prefer the dim sum - this last visit, my choices were fresh and delicious, better than previous times. My husband enjoys the more traditional Chinese dishes, like chicken chow mein, which are well-prepared and generous in the portions. We were interested in the fact there are two kinds of chow meins - the older one with slivered celery and onions, and the "newer" one with fried noodles as a base. Both have been very tasty.

Foods are good always.
Always we love this restaurant's foods. Only complaint is the air conditioner was set too low that nice and steamy hot plates got cold immediately, it's a shame.

the food here is always very good, and the waiters and staff make you feel very welcome

I read some mixed reviews before we went, but the location was ideal before a concert in Central Park. It turned out to be fabuluous. We tried 3 different dim sum dishes and two entrees. Everything was fresh and delicious. The only complaint is the prices are high -- especially for cocktails which were weak and tiny. Still we would return and just not drink there.

no matter how many times I go there, I always walk away satisfied that I ad a very good meal

I love Dim Sum
The best Dim Sum in a very cool black and white decor!

Convenient to Lincoln Center, Quick
Pricey, but tasty and very convenient to Lincoln Center. Shun Lee Cafe is great for when you want to eat just a little before a performance. They are efficient and you should have no worries about making your curtain. And the food is good!

Delicious but noisy
Our criticisms of this wonderful restaurant are few. One is that the tables are quite close. Second, the place is noisy because it's packed. The reasons are that the food is wonderful and different. It's our regular choice for pre-concert meals near Lincoln Center (only across the street).
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
they're back! better than ever
It seemed to me that the kitchen at Shun Lee Cafe was off its game for a while, But on Tuesday, our meal was better than ever, and they've added some new varieties of dumplings (both steamed and fried). If you gave up on this place, try it again.

Shun Lee Cafe was outstanding.
Dim sum is great and they have a lot of choices. Main plate servings are very small compared to California.
