Blown away every time...
We had the most wonderful dinner for my daughter's return home from college. Our server, Alex, kindly pointed us in the right direction with our drinks and gave a lot of helpful information about our food. He always seemed to be right there whenever we needed someone. Truly perfect timing. The food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The star of the show was the salmon dish in my humble opinion. Never in my life have I had such a perfect cut of fish. Tallent's Talent Tops It All

Excellent food and service. Waitress very knowledgable and made a great wine suggestion. Subbing a comparable bottle in place on one I want but they didn't have. I went to the back and complemented Dave Talent the chief. Will go again..

We came here for our anniversary
We came here for our anniversary dinner (we were back in Bloomington visiting) and many people had recommended it to us. The food was phenomenal -- inventive, local, and very tasty. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for amazing food, attentive service, and a great wine list.

Even though we visited Restaurant
Even though we visited Restaurant Tallent during graduation weekend, we didn't get the feeling that they were rushing or cutting corners to accommodate the crowds. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. Wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful, but not annoyingly hovering. Interesting menu choices. Our meals rivaled anything you would get in a top-notch restaurant in a major city. Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and extremely tasty. Don’t be offended by the fact that it may seem a bit pricey by Bloomington standards – your meal is well worth it and an excellent value.

Great choice for special occasion in Bloomington. But if this restaurant was in other big cities, then it would stand-out.

I love this place. It's consistent, creative, and always fun! My only complaint is that the dishes have been a bit salty as of late. I love the sauces and desserts are stellar. Especially the berry crumble's. I can't wait to return!

Tallent a Bloomingtong diamond
Restaurant Talent is truly a Bloomington, Indiana diamond.
When you see everyone at the table doing the happy dance after taking a bite it is well worth it.
The food is always well presented and the wait staff are very knowledgable and offer suggestions for us picky wine connoisseur's
Will be back to celebrate other special occasions in the future.

Tallent is Tops
We've been to Restaurant Tallent several times in the past three years and it has been our consistent, absolute favorite dining experience. We spend a lot of time in Chicago enjoying the great restaurants the much larger city has to offer, and Tallent is every bit as good, in all ways, as the best we've experienced there.
Don't miss out on the tasting menu, offered Monday through Thursday, where the chef works his magic on whatever ingredients are available that particular day. You never know what you're going to get, but it has always been wonderful for us.

Unique food average service
The food and wine is different in a good way. However the service can be sketchy if they get busy. We spent a lot of time waiting to order dessert and the other for our bill.

A must when in Bloomington
Thoughtfully prepared, fresh and quality ingredients made this restaurant experience one of the best in a long time. This was my first visit to Bloomington and quit honestly I was not expecting to find such a restaurant in, what I understood to be, a college town. Restaurant Tallent is not a cheap but if you love and appreciate well prepared quality ingredients and and don't mind paying the price then you won't be disappointed. As someone that eats at 'high end' restaurants regularly I can say that Restaurant Tallent delivered superb food for a reasonable price. I certainly didn't feel as if I had over paid.

The dining experience at Tallent
The dining experience at Tallent is one of the best in Bloomington. The chef is able to create dishes with unique blends of flavors to complement the meat, fish, or vegetable entrée. Plus, the chef does a great job using locally grown food, when available. The service can be slow at times, but you can also take advantage of having a leisurely meal with friends.

Our butter leaf lettuce salad came with bites of salmon bacon, a wonderful dressing, and amazing small warm bites of fried green tomato. The only thing better than the salad was the entree of fresh northern lake walleye, cooked to perfection and plated with a rim of swiss chard puree that added just a little zing, and a beautiful risotto with tiny fresh vegetables. I like the restaurant's wine list, which offers some reasonably priced and interesting wines by the glass and the bottle. The only tiny quibble was the evening's amuse bouche, which wasn't amusing--a small glass of so-called garlic vichysoisse, which just tasted like garlic juice. Sent it back and enjoyed the rest of the wonderful dinner.

Surprise and delight
It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. The food and service are above and beyond what you would normally receive at a restaurant. The menu always has an element of surprise and delight. Nice place to dine for a special occasion.

Very fine restaurant, especially
Very fine restaurant, especially for southern Indiana. The five-course tasting menu was well conceived and delicious. The server, Sean, was especially helpful in pacing the meal, describing the dishes, and keeping just the right level of engagement at the table--enough to care but not hovering or intrusive. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Great as always
Tallent is the best restaurant in Bloomington, period. You could be in New York or Chicago. Interesting wines by the glass and superb food, professionally served. You absolutely get what you pay for here.

Love this place.
My wife and I have been here several times and NEVER have we been disappointed. I had put in the reservation notice a small note stating it was an early birthday dinner for my wife. They actually read it, cause when dessert came they had put a small candle on hers. Nothing was said by me when we arrived. The little things can lead to the greatest.

Best restaurant in Bloomington
We have been to Tallent a few times and it does not disappoint. I had an arugula salad with grilled peaches, praline country ham, and blue cheese and it was exceptional. I chose the pork chop. I had a hard time deciding, and the server mentioned that he is known for his pork dishes. It was flavorful and so tender and was accompanied by a cabbage dish with chorizo - also incredible. For dessert, we had homemade cream cheese ice cream over a french toast. My spouse had an excellent salad and loved his sea bass dish, one of the nightly specials. We asked the server to choose the wine and it was also very good. Just incredible experience, and we will eat there again on our next trip to Bloomington. Well worth it!

Surprised and Delicious
My husband and I travel frequently for both work and play. We always love finding and trying new places out that not only feed us but taste great and inspire us in the kitchen. Restaurant Tallent is one of these places. Surprising tastes and combinations but not too trendy and scary.

This is where my husband asked to go for his birthday. It was a new restaurant for us. He absolutely loved it. The food was better than most well known, fine Indy restaurants. We will visit again, but the only downside was our server seemed preoccupied or not focus on our requests. I had to ask a second time for coffee and the after dinner port to be served with our birthday dessert was forgotten. The chef's talent to serve up a memorable meal outweighed the oversights. We would highly recommend Tallent.

The menu is seasonal, drawing inspiration from what is available locally. I was impressed by the food. My favorite was the Sweet Corn Agnolotti Carbonara- lots of variations of tastes and mouth-feels making you want to savor every bite. Prices are fairly standard for the food per person: $12 first course, $30 entree, $12 dessert. The education and experience of the chef is evident. I did not think the decor matched the caliber of the food and service; it was unremarkable. Overall very pleased and would definitely visit again, especially to try the tasting menu.

Bloomington is lucky to have Tallent . The appetizers we had were genuinely excellent: an heirloom tomato salad with blue cheese and an agnolotti pasta dish with chanterelles. My wife had the friend chicken (very good) and I had the wreckfish--also very good. Tallent is one of the four Hoosier chefs nominated for the Beard Award in the Midwest and I'd say this restaurant was on par with the others: Recess, Libertine, and R Bistro. Appetizers are around $10, entrees around $25, and wine about $8 to $10 per glass.
You are not going to be swept off your feet here. It's fairly plain, though attractive, and the service is attentive but not fawning.
I will happily eat here again when in Bloomington.

First time dining here......I'm a southern girl and the fried chicken as prepared by the chef is the best I've ever had, even better than mine! Our waitress Amelia was truly charming and knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine list. When we go back I will definitely ask for her and suggest everyone does!

So many good choices...
There were too many options on the menu that i wanted to try.
indiana tomato salad was great. My husband's melon salad was good as well.
The RT burger was excellent- I did it with no cheese.
Bison ribeye was fantasttic.
Our vegetarian diner was noted and accomadated well.
Spanish wine on comprehensive wine list was wonderful.
Desserts were tasty and not overwhelming.

Food for two

They need to work on their wine list. There were three wines that we requested and Tallent was out of all three of them. As an added note the wait staff needs to inform patrons when they are out of certain wines so one doesn't spend time on a selection that is no longer available.Other than that our dining experience was very good and the food was outstanding.

Food and Wine Pairing
My wife and I chose the 5 course food and wine pairing dinner at Restaurant Tallent and were completely blown away by the experience. We expected small portions of each course, but were surprised with much larger portions. Each course had flavors that complemented each other well and the wines were perfect choices for each dish. We cannot wait to return.

Dinner at Restaurant Talent
We had long looked forward to dining at the restaurant based on the many reviews we had read. Based on our experience, the reviews were correct. The service was outstanding with friendly, attentive staff who helped make our evening special without over doing it. The menu was interesting and the food wonderfully prepared and presented. The ambiance was pleasing and we were able to converse easily even though the restaurant was full. We had a great time and would highly recommend Restaurant Talent to anyone.

Restaurant Tallent is our favorite restaurant in Bloomington. Our meals have been consistently outstanding and the service is excellent. Favorites include the first course preparation of mussels, and the daily charcuterie plate. For entrees, you really cannot go wrong with any of the fish dishes...Saturday night my son ordered the lamb shank and it was delicious. For dessert we shared an apple tart with homemade ice cream - perfect.

Hard to beat.
Chef Tallent makes certain that everything is JUST RIGHT! From the greeting at the door, to the "amuse bouche", to the fabulous food (picture perfect and delicious) to the cookie treat before you leave. It is always a treat and I am never disappointed.

Worth the drive!
My wife and I live in Greenwood. We were looking for a new dinner destination to celebrate our 24th anniversary. A friend suggested Restaurant Tallent, so we made the 45 minute drive to Bloomington.
Our waiter, Sean, was very personable and provided excellent service. Our food, appetizer through dessert, was excellent. Sean accomodated my wife's request to sample 2 different wine options prior to ordering a bottle.
I would recommend Tallent for a special occasion. Give yourself time to walk the downtown Bloomington square before dinner!

My husband and I wanted to treat my niece and her boyfriend to a special evening since they are both IU undergrads living on sorority/frat food. Tallent was a delightful choice. Food was superb and the service excellent. Menu is a bit pricey but we enjoyed the chef's vision of each plate. The Roasted Autumn Squash soup was delicious...rich and nuttier than many others. We had the Indiana Ribeye, the Cobia and the Lamb as entrees...all great down-to-earth ingredients with a beautiful presentations and delicious flavors. We shared two desserts: the apple frangipane and the bread pudding (definitely choose the frangipane). We will return.

Great for Special Occasions
Great compositions for appetizers and main courses, with seasonal offerings and local food. Our server was very knowledgeable and service was good. A bit on the pricey side for Bloomington. Ask for a table on the north section of the restaurant, unless you wish to sit between the bar and kitchen.

Food is always delicious. At first some combinations are like ok lets see. And you are always left with an oh my where did the chef get this fabulous idea.
Wait staff are always attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.

We visit every time when in town
Our son attends IU, and Tallent has become our favorite when visiting Bloomington. Always something new to try, service is great and it's quiet enough to have an enjoyable conversation unlike some of the other loud, bustling establishments we have tried.

Perfection in cooking
This was one of the best meals that I have ever had.We had the fall vegetables appetizer.For the main course we chose the nights special which was Surf and Turf. Dessert was coffee and Butterscotch Panne Cotta. You could taste every component of each course and everything was seasoned perfectly. Cheers to the chef as well as the wonderful staff.

Each time we eat at Restaurant Tallent, we think that it's the best meal we've ever had there. While wine prices seem a bit higher than the last time we were there, the wine list is still really interesting and the server very helpful in choosing a bottle. The portions seem larger than before. It's just got to be one of the very best restaurants in the state.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Excellent wine selection. Cuisine is unmatched in Bloomington. Perfect execution, presentation. The walleye and flounder entries were flawless, and the lobster risotto bordered on divine. Simply the finest cuisine in B-town.

I had a nice meal at Tallent. The food was excellent and not trying too hard to be different or novel. The service was appropriately unintrusive. The prices were fair and the amount of food appropriate for a non-chain restaurant of this caliber.
