This was our first night in the city but a second visit to the restaurant.
Although very good we felt it wasn't quite as good
as our first experience. Staff were efficient but lacked
friendliness. It's worth trying.

Excellent culinary experience
We've been to La Sirene twice already and really love everything about this place. The food is simply amazing and the service is excellent. My boyfriend and I have decided to turn this into our special date place and go there every month and try every single item from the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant for a nice romantic dinner.

Authentic tasty French dishes and even all the waitresses have a French accent.
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
BYOB and great food!
As a BYOB this place was already on my list of restaurants to check out, but the excellent food made it all the more worthwhile. Only negative is they take cash and checks, no credit cards, but hey, I can live with that.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Perfect for a pre-theatre dinner
The food was really amazing; had the filet with foie gras and mushrooms and my friend had the duck and both were excellent.

byo wine to pair with great food
Loved everything we ordered. Solid french neighborhood restaurant. We'd definitely return.

Modern French beautifully prepared.
The restaurant is tiny and right by the Holland Tunnel entrance, but inside, it is a transport to an intimate French Bistro. Dinner was exceptional - mussels in white wine, baked grouper in saffron cream, a sliced rib eye, puréed vegetables and, to top it, profiteroles in dark chocolate. Service was outstanding and extraordinarily friendly. It's BYOB with no corkage fee so for us, the complete dinner before gratuity was so reasonable at $114 (Wow!) for 2 and New York at that. Be aware that it is cash only.
Great evening experience

Authentic French in SOHO
Awesome, off the beaten path restaurant. So friendly, food is tasty, and the prices are reaosnable.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cassoulet was to die for, and the unlimited vegetables was nice. Will definitely be returning.

Great French Food - and it's BYOB
We really enjoyed our meals at La Sirene. The restaurant is small, and I thought we might feel cramped, but actually the ambience was very enjoyable. The service was excellent, the food fantastic (the casoulet was delicious), and to top it off, the restaurant is BYOB with no corkage fee. Highly recommended.

second time at La Sirene....attentive and pleasant service.....food was very good....mussels outstanding.....will keep coming back

One of my favorites
The food at La Sirene is as good as I remembered. I enjoyed the olive oil that comes with the pre-dinner bread. The house green salad was very fresh. My entree was a grouper special. The fish was cooked just right with just the right amount of seasoning. I finished the very last bit on my plate. They serve all tables free side vegetables in puree style. You order as much as you want. This time I finished a full plate of carrot, eggplant, butter squash and taro root all by myself. For dessert, I had their bake-on-order chocolate lava cake. They paired it with coconut sorbet. It was so, so, so good. With so many good restaurants in NYC, La Sirene is among a handful that I will go back again and again.

Tartlet was incredible. Unlimited veggie late was prepared to perfection and we took advantage of going for round two.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
This dinner was so good...I had baby octopus salad that was absolutely delicious followed by the fish special of the night...We brought our own wine...no high wine prices, no corkage fees and no attitude...they come over and offer ice buckets for the wines and keep your glass full.We finished with a shared dessert apple tartan that was perfect!

A SoHo Gem
Wonderful bistro fare with creative touches, friendly service, and reasonable prices. No liquor license, but a nearby wine shop delivers to your table in minutes, with no markup and no delivery fee (and restaurant provides an abbreviated wine list to guide your selection). Two thumbs up!

Great Food Find
This small out of the way gem has fantastic food. The fact that you have to bring your own wine is only a minor inconvenience. The food was flavorful, the dessert divine. Without a doubt the creme puff dessert was the best I had ever had, lighter than air! I booked on open table and was grateful that they called during the day to let me know about the boyb and cash or check policies. WIthout that, the evening would have been ruined.

Escargot & Filet with Foie
Escargot & Filet with Foie were delicious and the vegetables on the side were well cooked too (not oily at all). Had a fish special with morel sauce which was tasty. Service was terrific. I would recommend this place.

Great French food
With just one night in Manhatan we wanted to have a good food experience. Decided on French cuisine and used OT to find La Sirene. This place is all about the food flavor and great service. The pate was so good and the roasted pear with melted bleu cheese was as good a combination of flavors as you will find. The filet was perfect and the bake sea food dish was rich creamy and filled with mussels shrimp and white fish. It was fantastic. Presentation was fine not great . The atmosphere is crowded and busy. It's BYOB but a liqueur store delivers. So, the overall cost was considerably less than normal for food of this quality.

A Camelia in the Rough
In the least romantic and grungy of neighborhoods, a stone's throw away from the entrance to the Holland tunnel one encounters this unpretentious outstanding example of unfathomably delicate sensitive French cooking, La Sirene.
The asparagus soup was a delight; my fish was serviceably unpretentious and tasty; my wife's mussels she thought were plainly scrumptious . And the byob policy enabled us to enjoy a very expensive gift of high end champagne that we would never to be able to afford ordering off a list. All in all a great dining experience, an example of French culinary culture without the attitude that usually accompanies it.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
One word, impressed... Although "cash only" was kind of annoying, this place had AMAZING food. We ordered the Goat Cheese Truffle Tart and Muscles in white wine for starters and we couldn't get enough. We cleaned the plates. Our entres were the seared duck and the filet mignon. Both were smothered in a delicious red wine reduction.
Stand up and clap people cause the food was excellent. Price was fair. BYOB.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Intimate, well staffed, superb food, and good value (especially considering BYOB)
8/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was incredible and the staff was so attentive!

Love Le Sirene
Delicious food, pleasant ambience, and byo a wonderful plus.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
In love with their food.
I keep going there, always. The food is so amazing. I love it.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place for a reasonably priced gourmet classic, Tournedos Rossini, for those with a craving for the rich flavors of French cuisine of days gone by. The dessert menu is also appealing.

I've been to La Sirene a few
I've been to La Sirene a few times before and decided to take my boyfriend here for dinner. It's small, charming, and romantic and it was very close to the Brandy Library so it was perfect. The food is always delicious! And it's a great BYOB restaurant. Hudson Wines deliver if you didn't bring your own bottle.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had dinner with my family. Mom ordered the hangar steak. My sis and wife ordered the filet mignon with foie gras. I had the cassoulet. Sis loved her steak and sauce. Wife's steak came out rarer then she wanted. Mom didn't say much about her steak. The cassoulet was ok. I would not order it again. I did not like it when I had it in Paris so I wanted to try it again. It's probably me, but it's not my thing. We all loved the appetizers, which consisted of the baby octopus salad, mussels and escargot. Service was great. They made us feel welcomed. Sis and mom loved the green beans from the ayce vegetable side dish.

Romantic Date Night
I brought my boyfriend here 2 nights ago. I have been dying to go to La Sirene for quite some time but never had the chance and when my BF mentioned French food, we decided to go here. I loved the restaurant..I especially enjoyed having to bring our own wines. The food was amazing..loved the foie gras appetizer and our entree were superb. My BF had the cassoulet toloussain while I had quail. We also had the profiteroles for dessert which was so yummy (and quite large; great share for 2 people). Overall, this restaurant was so great, made our date night such a romantic event. Also our waitress was French and was so sweet and perfect all around. Can't wait to go back.

It is always good
I first went here several years ago, drawn by a friend who told me that it was a really good, cozy bistro, but ultimately persuaded by my ability to brng my own wine. There are many bottles that I would enjoy, but cannot afford to purchase at a restaurant with their 3X mark-up. Over the years I have seen it grow to three times the original space, but the food is still great, the prices reasonable and you can still bring your own wine. If you are looking for a casual place, with fine food, good service, etc. you really cannot do much better.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Rich and delish french food
Expensive but worth it. BYOB. Recommended for people that love traditional French cuisine. Small tables and busy staff but friendly. Give you a two hour window which is adequate. Great find if you love to bring a good bottle of wine. Have been there multiple times and never disappointed.

Great food - Great value!
My husband and I had dinner here prior to going to see Wicked and we loved it. The food was great, and the fact that it's a BYOB restaurant made it an extremely affordable evening. I live in Connecticut so I don't get into the City too often, but I'll definitely be going back to LaSirene the next time we're in town. If I lived in NYC, this would be my "go to" place on a weekly basis!
The service was wonderful and the wait staff was friendly, which added to the whole experience.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
BYOB and Cash-only
Tight space, small table, byob and cash/check only BUT pretty good choice for french cuisine in the downtown area.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, not very friendly
Even in NYC I expect more friendly service, even in a Frnch restaurant. I wasn't in Paris. Food was fabulous.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was great!
We had an awesome dinner at La Sirene. It was easy to change our reservation to add a person to our party, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. When the called to confirm the reservation they told us that we would have the table for two hours, but it was not that busy that night so no one even mentioned it when we were there. Get the mussels and filet mignon!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great fancy BYOB
We were looking for a nice BYOB place to drink very good bottles that we had. Thanks to Yelp, we found just the place. Loved the ambiance and the food. The lamb was amazing, and so were the all-you-can-eat veggies that come with the entrées. I was only disappointed by the pollock with morel sauce (one of the two specials that day), which was a bit dry and nothing special. (Others at my table had other meat dishes which they said were amazing.) The waiters were nice but kind of outnumbered, so our waters didn't get refilled very often. Despite those two minor criticisms, I would recommend this place if you're looking for good food & byob.

Whisked away to France!
It is a bit out of the way but I now finally understand why this place is always packed. Came here early Friday night for dinner and it was fifty percent full. It was filled about 30 minutes later. They accept cash only, confirmed along w/ their BYO wine policy.
Additional two specials of the day (not sure if it's just Friday n weekends), but the original menu is already enough to make you think a little. Tried their fish special, which was superb. Flavors (especially the sauce) was just spot on. Friend had the sirloin foie gras, and noticeably many other diners as well. Great choice, great value! The chocolate fondant is great as well! Quality chocolate and great to share. Actually liked this better than JG's molten lava cake.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious food... very charming owner made us feel right at home.
Liked the BYOB policy... will definitely go back.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Still a hit
My husband and I discovered this place about two years ago after reading scores of rave reviews. We've dined here every few months since then and the food has been consistently good. The fact that it's BYOB without a corkage fee is the icing on the cake. La Sirene is not quiet or low key but if you're looking for a warm and friendly setting with a neighborhood feel, this is your spot.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Packed into a tiny location,
Packed into a tiny location, but the food was great (highly recommend the duck breast), and it was the perfect place to enjoy a special bottle of wine.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
fantastic french food
This little gem had amazing French food and the fact that it is BYOB really topped it off. I came for my birthday and we had a great time. It was a bit noisy, but it was late on a Saturday night. They let us linger and enjoy all our courses. I'd definitely come back! The food is a bit pricey but its worth it since you can bring your own wine.

Escargot was the star of the show!
La Sirene is a very small restaurant, but that proved to be a great thing...immediately upon entry, the aroma coming from the kitchen blows you away! The smell is amazing! You will begin to salivate. We had 10:00 reservations but we missed our movie, so we arrived at La Sirene 2 hrs early. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us. The food was awesome- goat chz tart, escargot, salad, duck breast, filet mignon w/ foie gras, and warm choc cake w/ coconut sorbet...everything was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent. The best part of it all is that they have a BYOB policy. We had a lovely bottle of Rioja-Perfect! We will visit again soon.

excellent filet and the goat cheese tart was fabulous! everything I have ever tried here is exquisite! I highly recommend it!

Nice cozy place
Dining at La Sirene was very good, both in terms of food and atmosphere. The bypb service is great and without corkage fee.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
One word can describe our experience at La Sirene: outstanding. We've been to France a few times and I lived in northern France too. I had incredible meals in France, and I can honestly say this was one of the best French meals that I've ever had. We started with the perfectly seasoned buttery escargot (delish!). I had the Tournedos Rossini (filet topped with foie gras in a port & red wine sauce - oh my heavens! My husband had the Selle D’Agneau Poêlée a la Crème D'Ail (lamp chop with garlic sauce) wow! Both were out of this world. As a bonus, La Sirene is byob. I can't recommend it highly enough. One note, it is a bit crowded with many tables in a tight space. But it's romantic!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent Food and it's BYOB!!!!
I have been there many times and the food is excellent. It is on pricey side but that being said it is BYOB so you do save a ton of money on wine.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Better than ever
This was the third time I've been to La Sirene, and as such, I had certain expectations. The place would be dark and cramped. The food would be good, rich, and portioned on the small side. And the service good.
Well, La Sirene has impoved their light, and normalized entree serving sizes to be large enough to satisfy a hungry adult, but not be so much that one expects a doggie bag. The quality of the food has improved as well; the food is the best it's ever been at La Sirene.
As for the service, it was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and competent. She never rushed us and made sure that we were finished with each course before clearing the table to begin the next.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
BYOB in SoHo
Fantastic French spot in SoHo. The escargot was so good we ordered more! The fact that it is BYOB makes for a relatively affordable night out. Definitely coming back.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Cute southern French restaurant
Staff is very friendly and the cuisine is very good.
It was empty at 7pm on a wednesday but filled up towards 8pm.
They don't offer wine so you have to BYOB which is a bit of a pain but there is a liquor store not too far.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
The BYOB policy makes this very nice classic French restaurant truly special
