The setting and service were outstanding. Very attentive wait staff in a beautiful room.
The food was pretty good. It was too lightly seasoned for my taste and the vegetable selection for the shrimp and grits dish seemed odd.
All in all, however, a very enjoyable experience.

Juniper was an excellent choice
Juniper was an excellent choice to meet some old friends for dinner. We could talk easily in a lovely atmosphere. The food was very good and the service very helpful.

Excellent restaurant! Great food and perfect portions! Will definitely come back. A rare American food restaurant sophisticated enough to compete with its international counterparts.

Salmon I had with some type of cherry glaze may have been the best salmon I have ever had. Staff was terrific.

Juniper is one of my favorite
Juniper is one of my favorite restaurants when I really want to be able to talk during the meal. The setting is lovely, inside and in the garden, and it is quiet. The food is excellent--imaginative selections across many dietary preferences, high quality ingredients, and expertly prepared. Service is very attentive and helpful in making menu selections. Juniper is truly a gem!

A gem in the West End!
Sat in the courtyard on a beautiful evening surrounded by cherry trees in bloom. The food was excellent as well as the service. The prices were actually lower than I would expect from a hotel restaurant like this. A gem!

Very nice food and the noise
Very nice food and the noise level is low enough to actually allow for a pleasant conversation. The wine list is strangely limited, though (only rather overpriced American wines). They do not offer regular bread with the food. One can order some kind of sweet honey bread.

FANTASTIC! All around a great experience! From the 1,000 point Open Table points option, to the greeting at the host stand...not to mention the server was a gem and the food perfect!!!! the 'dietary' restriction options on the menu made it easy to be a vegetarian! We WILL go back!

We had a gathering of 4 friends who do not see each other often. We wanted delicious food and an opportunity to linger over our meal to talk. Juniper was perfect!

Excellent quiet conversation place
This is one of the quietest places to have dinner in the area. The service was good, not great. The bread and salad we had was outstanding, but the salmon was only good.

Everything is very fresh. Straight forward and excellent preparation.

The restaurant has gone through many names and as many decor changes. It was once a loud place with tile floors and a nagging noise from barstool a scraping while people entered and exited their bar stools. It was called The Bistro or something like that and was more of a Clyde's lookalike in the West End. NO
Today the restaurant is an elegant carpeted dining experience. The food is great but the options are too voluminous frankly. They could save a lot of time and money by offering nearly 50% of the menu selections. The special lunches are great and I don't know of another place that offers them. I am diabetic and on a diet. I had two starters for my lunch and mixed them: asparagus and the corn & hominy succotash. Excellent.

Beautiful garden setting
Several reviewers complained this restaurant is not busy and seems stuffy. I can only attest that the food was delicious and service attentive. We elected to sit in the courtyard which was a quiet oasis from a busy city. Homemade bread with the hotels own honey was a great start with a selection of small dairy cheeses, lamb chops and salmon were perfect entrees. The wine selection is small but notable, prices start around $50. We enjoyed craft cocktails to start (again with house made honeycomb), cheese selection, 3 entrees, bottle of wine, 2 dessert wines, 1 dessert (delicious warm crumble with caramel sauce and ice cream) for a total of $250 (for three people) without tip.

A perfect lunch
I have eaten here several times, and the food is consistently outstanding -- well thought out, fresh takes on conventional dishes, lots of creative veggies. Recently I brought my mom for a special lunch and the service could not have been more gracious. On a late spring day the courtyard was a beautiful hidden garden. Highly recommend.

Setting perfect/ food uneven
Three of us visited Juniper and were wowed by its gorgeous setting in The Fairmont Hotel. Our reception and drinks service were excellent and we were pleased to get little complimentary plates of fried risotto. I was not thrilled with the crab soup which was more like a rather ordinary vegetable broth with lumps of crab as afterthought, than a soup built around this luscious ingredient. My tagliatelle entree was very tasty- no complaints there with homemade pasta redolent with mint and pesto. My husband had asparagus risotto and rockfish and was pleased but not excited about his plates.

Top Chef quality
The flavors were new and the presentation was beautiful. The desserts were inventive and SOO good. The service was impeccable! I highly recommend this lovely lovely restaurant.

We waited and waited and waited
We waited and waited and waited for service. After finally flagging a busboy, the waiter appeared. The ambiance was beautiful, the food very good -- steak, scallops, and salmon were excellent; the lamb chops were miniscule -- two bites per each of 3 chops. Bread plate appetizer was excellent, although it was not complementary -- you would expect bread to be "free" at an upper crust restaurant.

Our new favorite spot
I had never dined at the Fairmont Hotel and I absoloutely loved it! Its a hidden gem in our neighborhood. Their food is delicious, their staff is very attentive and the outdoor patio is spectacular. They also grow all of their herbs in the hotel's faciltiies and have their own honey combs.

This was a great experience.
The staff and the food was great. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Everyone there is so nice
Everyone there is so nice and welcoming, beginning at the door with the valet service, to the hostess, waiters, the wonderful food and atmosphere. We always have supreme service in every way. Now that the parking price has been reduced, we will come much more often!

Excellent meal and service
We were there celebrating a birthday and it was perfect. The meals were top notch--salmon, chicken, scallops, and beef. The beef was a strip loin and not as tender as a filet but perfectly cooked. The appetizers and desserts were also very nice, and there is a good wine list. Try things made with honey, as there are hives on the rooftop, and probably 150,000 bees in action up there!! The staff is very attentive, always checking in on how things are, from the hostess to the bus staff. Beautiful garden next to the restaurant, and overall a lovely evening.

I have dined here several times, most recently for dinner on two nights. This restaurant places great importance on sustainably-produced, seasonal, and local food. The menu changes often and it is treat to discover what the chef has planned.
Juniper also offers dishes that accommodate many dietary restrictions - gluten-free, raw, vegan, DASH, diabetes - while making each offering appealing and creative. Service is attentive and professional. The dining room is modern and under-stated and has a serene atmosphere.
I enjoyed the honey walnut bread - dense and warm and the rooftop honey is amazing! I had the scallops on the first night and the crab cakes on the second - both meals were nicely presented and fresh.

excellent service and ambience
Juniper is a great place for dinner with friends or for a romantic evening. This restaurant meets anyone's dining needs and the service was excellent. The desserts were not overwhelming and satisfied your sweet tooth without leaving you full and heavy.
Wine list is great and I would definitely come here again.

Execllent for Brunch
We sat in the very light space that looked into the open court yard which meant that we didn't have to compete with the noise inside the very full dining area. The crab cakes were excellent and the wait-staff very friendly when we could get their attention. The place was packed for Sunday brunch and as a result the staff were run off their feet. Overall, an great location for Sunday brunch.

Yummy food in a nice location.
We went there for breakfast, on a Thursday. The place was very nice, and we sat in an idyllic garden with a beautiful small fountain. We could not decide on which of the many great selections on the menu we would go for, so we chose the buffet, which was, at first glance rather small, but turned out to be of outstanding quality. The food was fresh, and very well prepared. I especially enjoyed the breakfast potatoes, eggs and the "Bircher"-muesli. The orange juice was simply prime. The service was attentive and friendly.
This experience makes me regret that i do not live in Washington DC, otherwise I would certainly go there at least once or twice per week.
A true gem!

Extraordinary selection of healthy foods, very well prepared. Very quiet, attractive setting makes it outstanding for conversation. Exceptionally attentive service. Easy to get reservation. Best crab cakes anywhere! It makes its own honey!

Delicious food, quiet and
Delicious food, quiet and elegant atmosphere. Lots of choices for many kinds of diets, clearly defined on the menu. Negative: Waiter disappeared after serving meals, not returning until we had almost finished and couldn't complain about the overly spicy brown rice paella (which hadn't been described as spicy on the menu). Two guests exchanged meals so both had something they could eat.

Sublime outdoor garden
Fairly high prices at lunch.
Wide variety in menu.
For some reason, there was no fresh bread! For shame!

very good and interesting menu
The menu was very good and interesting. All fresh foods and anyone with special needs (as gluten free, vegetarian, etc.) all covered on the menu and easy to order. The service was good for dinner and the atmosphere pretty and comforable.

Lovely for a special event
My family of four felt well-attended by a great server and all the people at the restaurant. The chef even came and talked to us! Without us asking for it, the chef created a special birthday message on marzipan for my son. It was just right for a young man of college age who didn't want a public fuss. The food was amazing and my son the vegetarian found ample options.

Great Farm to Table!
We have visited this restaurant several times and each time I have come I am amazed at how they chef does a wonderful job in utilizing local ingredients. Ingredients from their rooftop garden and from around the region. This restaurant is one of the few in the area that offers a great adult menu but is also kid friendly. I can not say enough that I wished more high end restaurants did this as well. I really enjoyed having the autumn pasta this time and my daughter had the rockfish. Both were well prepared and well seasoned. Of course my daughter's favorite here is the chocolate chip cookies. I had the apple crumble with salted caramel ice cream which was a great finish to our meal.

Perfect Birthday Dinner
I picked this restaurant located in the Fairmont Hotel because of the locally sourced ingredients and alternative menus (I am vegetarian). This was for my husband's birthday and there seemed to be enough meat on the menu to satisfy him as well. We had to change the time on Open Table at the last minute because of traffic but when we arrived, the host was completely gracious and said they had been saving a special table outside. The garden area was lovely with trees hiding the view of the hotel above, blooming flowers, and a bubbling fountain. The ambiance was completely romantic and the food was delicious. We were able to eat and get to a show at the Kennedy Center in time as well. Would definitely return!

Deserves a return trip!
Food so good, I had to come back the second night! Large special section of the menu for dietary restrictions, mostly local fare, excellent food, and great service will keep me coming back each time I'm in D.C.

A wonderful lunch experience. Food was unique and unexpected. Lovely taste. Service was superior across the board. Nothing I would change about this dinning experience.

A return Favorite
The choice of Vegan , Heart Healthy, Macrobiotic and just Regular haute'cusine makes this a favorite restaurant to return to. This last visit however was just a tad marred by the Cod being a bit over-cooked...I let the chef know but did not hear a reply back through the waiter. Presentation, ambiance, waitering, support staff was , as usual, spectacular. Next time I will insist on not being seated near the table that holds 8+ people, the noise level , especially after they consume a few bottles of wine, can ruin the experience. Very nice outdoor garden dining, weather permitting.
