Superb restaurant, great food
Service was superb, food choices really interesting and delicious. Great location if you want to chat with friends over dinner.
The wine choice was excellent. Fascinating Inn apparently with its own ghost.

Greatest snapper soup in the world
Our food was perfect and the timing of service was outstanding. All the food was excellent but the snapper soup was just beyond unbelievable.

Old Fashion Menu, But Excellent
Admittedly, we went to GWI b/c I had a serious hankering for beef wellington, and it was the only restaurant we could find online nearby. The décor could use some updating, but the food was outstanding, as was the service.

The General never disappoints!
The beef wellington is amazing and makes me question why it has been so long between visits. A must try! I also love how the staff prepares certain dishes tableside: caesar salad, dover sole, steak au poivre, etc. A dinner at the General Warren Inne is always special, without being stuffy. Can't wait to go back!
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The GWI continues to be an extraordinary dining experience! The food is wonderful, the bar and waitstaff make you feel comfortable and like an old friend. We had a cousin in from out of town and wanted her to enjoy an exceptional meal and experience. The GWI is always our "go to" restaurant for special occasions.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
A two hour meal with incredible and attentive service. Joe was our waiter and he was perfect -- from the wine pouring to the flaming Bananas Foster aflame table side, we could not have asked for more.
6/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
The service provided by Tom
The service provided by Tom was perfect and the meal was excellent from strat to finish. The wine list had many reasonably priced wines.

Historic Inn(e) with superb menu
A beautifully restored eighteenth century inn with a warm, comfortable ambiance. The staff are dedicated, friendly and helpful and the food is amazing, absolutely world class. A real find.

reliably above average
My friends and I choose General Warren Inne due to the excellent food, ambiance and efficient service.

Looking for a different place to have lunch with an old friend, I thought about the General Warren Inne. I hadn't been there in years. I didn't remember my past dining experience as being out of the ordinary. Wow! Was I wrong! From the moment we arrived and the maitre d' greeted us, our experience could only be described as outstanding. The decor was beautiful, reflecting the inn's early origin. The menu was varied. It was hard to narrow our choices. Our waitress was wonderful. She was both personable and knowledgable. AND - the food was scrumptious! After eating every morsel on my plate, I actually ordered dessert - something I never do. I was not disappointed! I am looking forward to going back to the Inne for dinner!

GW is a reliably great restaurant.
GW is a reliably great restaurant. Menu has old standbys like the snapper turtle soup and nouveau specials like the berry/hot pepper gaspacho I had Saturday night. Just a great place.

Classic Fine Dining
White linen tablecloths, attentive service, well-dressed clientele, comfortable table spacing all combined to offer a refined dining experience. Waitress was excellent although the kitchen had trouble keeping up the pace. We were comped for after-dinner cordials due to the long delay between appetizers and main course. Snapper soup was flavorless, but the Caesar Salad prepared tableside was excellent. Chateaubriand for two carved tableside was a treat even though the beef was undercooked. All other meals were delicious, including salmon, crab cake, haddock with a wonderful jasmine rice. The dessert menu was tempting with many unique items, but we did not partake this time. We will return when there is a special occasion.

The General Never Fails to Deliver
Whenever we want a really nice dinner, or if we want to treat friends to something special, there is no question: The General Warren Inne. It has been our favorite for years and is rock solid in its continued excellence.

It was a Happy Birthday!
It was our first time at The General Warren Inne, and the birthday celebration was wonderful. The staff was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and gave us a very pleasant dining experience, making the occassion memorable. We look forward to returning!

We celebrated my daughter's birthday with a delicious lunch. Our favorite waitress served us, and the choice of dishes, while not extensive, was broad enough to tease our palates. And dessert--yummy as always. I told the waitress their pastry chef is a treasure!

First Experience Was Enjoyable
We had a lovely time. We were looking for a place where two friends could get caught up and we found it. The ambience was cozy and quiet. The staff was very attentive and the food was very good. We will be back.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
We always enjoy our dinners at General Warren. So many restaurants are noisy that it makes it hard to talk at the table. We were dining with friends we hadn't see for awhile and wanted someplace quiet and upscale. General Warren was the place!
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a wonderful restaurant
Our dining experience was terrific. The waitress was most helpful. We, most assuredly, will return.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was great!
The food was awesome....I had the Monk fish special, very tasty!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The General Warren Inne has long been a favorite. The setting, atmosphere, service and food take you back to another era of fine dining, yet the establishment keeps modern by adding new entrees while maintaining the old favorites. The staff actually knows the regulars and always provide a fine dining experience.

Third time dining there
Food is good. The restaurant and grounds are beautiful! Our waitress was very personable.
Need to improve these items.
After dark our patio table was DARK! The votive candles are too small and kept going out. Couldn't see entree when served.
Waitress was serving inside and the patio. The restaurant isn't huge but distance too far to keep an eye on both areas.
The chairs on the patio are very uncomfortable. Get cushions for the seats and backs. My back is sore today.
Beef Wellington was overcooked. Couldn't see that it was overcooked since it was so dark but knew after a few bites. Waitress busy elsewhere - serving indoors.
We love the atmosphere & while the food is good - not outstanding.

A marvelous special occasion place
Our favorite restaurant. Friendly, professional wait staff serve very good food. The old world ambience in the main dining room pairs with a friendly, atmospheric bar area.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Since it's off the beaten path, you have to look for the General Warren Inne - but it's well worth it. The service is always personal without being obtrusive, the food is excellent and usually includes some very creative dishes, and the desserts are unsurpassed!
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a treat!
We have been to General Warren many times over the years and it still remains one of our absolute favorites! Lovely, friendly service, great food and ambience! Always a treat!!!
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our Old/New Favorite
Most of the fine dining establishments in our area have compromised quality, ambience and service, GWI has not. We can always rely on the continuity of excellent cuisine and presentment, ergo - our old/new most favorite.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Happy Birthday dinner
My only complaint was the walk to the restaurant. We don't usually pay for someone to park our car. So, we parked in the lower parking lot and walked over. The walk was difficult because of the rocks. I had heels on and had to hold on close to my husband to make it without falling. Stepping stones would be a great option if they should ever decide to change that.
The staff was wonderful. One of the waiters made a point of asking if we were there for a special occasion. She then wrote happy birthday on my dessert plate. It was a lovely surprise. We enjoyed both our meals as usual and will likely come back again soon.

A wonderful birthday dinner
Execellent and diverse menu. Beautiful presentation often charmingly prepared at our table (Ceasar salad/bananas foster). The beef Wellington was done perfectly. A lovely place for special occasions.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
A first class dining experience
A lovely setting with delicious food and an efficient but friendly staff made for a wonderful evening. The complimentary valet parking is an additional plus.

They did it again ...
They outdid themselves on a recent mid-week business dinner. Ahi-Tuna steak with Blue Cheese Risotto and fresh garden green beans. Quite simply the best meal I've ever had at the venerable General Warren Inne. What's funny about that is about six months ago I had the pan-seared red snapper with asparagus and up till that time - that was the best meal I'd ever had at General Warren Inne. Just amazed at how this quality restaurant keeps their standards high, the service is always stellar and they never disappoint.
10/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
My wife & I had an early dinner and the food & experience was exceptional. The braised short ribs fall apart in your mouth with a succulent gravy. The beef wellington lived up to it's reputation as the best in the Philadelphia area. Our plates were completely clean.
Best of all is the ambiance & setting. This isn't as casual as a Morton's or Capital Grille steakhouse although the bill will be roughly the same. Men, wear your sport coat.

Thumbs up for everything!!
Excellent food including the best table side made Caesar salad by our fantastic server Nancy. She made wonderful recommendations regarding our menu selections. We all had different fish which was so fresh and prepared creatively without overpowering the taste of the fish. The brownie peanut butter dessert is beyond decadent. We ate by the fireplace in the bar which was very cozy. Overall an A+ In every aspect.

Good place to bring clients
We bring clients here all the time. The dishes are expensive but are fulfilling and different. Steaks are always good. Dessert is good too!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always a good choice
The Inne is consistently reliable. The location and atmosphere are quiet, beautiful and conducive to conversation. The menu is updated and varied and the service is very attentive and friendly, but never intrusive. It is nice for personal dining as well as a consistently reliable choice for business lunches and dinners. In warm weather, the outdoor dining is very nice.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
Not to be missed
We've eaten here a few times and each time it has been a wonderful experience.
The wait staff was superb
We were seated next to the fireplace as requested
It was again a wonderful night out

Nice Thanksgiving Lunch
My husband had the traditional turkey feast and I ordered scallops. The Scallops were outstanding.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
The General Warren has been around since 1745, it is an excellent place to dine if you wish to spend $$$.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Came here for another lovely Thanksgiving brunch. Requested table by fireplace and was accommodated. Quiet, delicious food, nice wine, great atmosphere (love the historic ambiance). Service was terrific. Decorations were pleasant and fitted the season. Wonderful spot you wouldn't expect so close to 202/Lancaster Ave. You should go!
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Beautifully decorated for the holidays, cozy fires, a wonderful setting for celebrating a friend's special birthday! And the FOOD of course was the star of the evening. This is my favorite "special event" restaurant.

Everything was outstanding
Everything was outstanding as usual. My favorite restaurant.

This was our third dinner
This was our third dinner at the General Warren Inne this year. The bar was very active with a singing duo performing. The dining room had just enough of the background music to be pleasant even as numerous diners arrived. We were seated by the fire which was great on a cold night. Blue point oysters were superb with a chipotle dip and the snapper soup was again excellent. Best for us was the pork chop with Brussel sprouts and bacon over garlic mashed potatoes, au jus and dates. My wife's duck was delicious and both entrees were enhanced by a very good old vines zinfandel. We appreciate the restaurant more with each visit and look forward to our next dinner.

In the mood for perfection?
From the table side Cesare salad, to the soup special which was a wild mushroom and brie (amazing on a cold rainy Friday night) to the specials - seared Grouper filet atop a giant homemade arugula and mushroom ravioli in a huge bowl of seafood broth filled with tender shrimp to the first class service ... Another perfect night at the Inne.
