grilled calamari appetizer
grilled calamari appetizer appetizer was delicious. Sole special was also quite tasty. Service was prompt, including beverage service, unlike comments of some previous reviewers. Room was reasonably quiet on a Sunday evening with the dinning room around half full.

A neighborhood gem, just not
A neighborhood gem, just not in a neighborhood or in a very good area for that matter. The food was good, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, and our server was knowledgeable and nice!

Good place to grab a bite
Good place to grab a bite before going to the theater. Quality of the food was good and very well prepared. I didn't care for sitting so close to other folks, but that's a minor issue.. Although, I would suggest this place to my friends who are also eating organic these da

Fresh & Fab
Eaten here several times. Great place for locals and out-of-town visitors. Fried chicken is, like we say, just like grandma's. Fish and chips are great. Little cornbread madelines are worth ordering on their own (not on menu). Very nice service. Pretty good drinks.

The first time in a long time
The first time in a long time at any restaurant where every dish served at our table was wonderful. The amuse bouche to begin, a seafood bisque, was outstanding.

Outstanding locally sourced
Outstanding locally sourced food and produce. Nice dining room with waiters that know the menu. Highly recommend.

Food and service outstanding
Food and service outstanding but size and closeness of tables makes for a noisy environment

what a find
checking the internet for local restaurants on day 2 of our visit to the city, and saw Fish and Farm. Mixed reviews, but thought we would try it anyway.(Sunday evening - not everything open)
What a surprise - friendly staff, good ambience (if slightly noisy) and the food was the big surprise - EXCELLENT. THEY EVEN STOCK ALBARINO....hurray.
Do try this place.

Great Dinner Experience
The ambiance, service, and food is great. A dining experience you and the people you are with are sure to remember. My favorite part is the ambiance and the food. Everything is natural regarding the food they serve and they support the local farmers and fishers in a 100 mile area.

Excellent burgers, delicious
Excellent burgers, delicious salmon dish. Service was awesome and it wasn't too loud. Will definitely return, and recommend to others.

Excellent farm to fork food
The grilled calamari salad was awesome. The calamari was cooked just to the right texture and the portion was very generous too. Everything else that my family ordered from the lamb to the fried chicken and fish and chips as well as gnnochi were wonderful too.

Nice evening at Fish and Farm!
We have eaten at Fish and Farm before when visiting SF, and met a two business friends for dinner there. They were a little concerned that there were not that many choices on the menu, but decided that it was "just enough," and actually made deciding on what to eat easier, plus there were several specials. We had starters of roasted corn soup (delicious special!), a fantastic Spring Salad, and a very good Caesar salad. For mains, we had pork chops, an Ono fish special, and the roasted salmon. All were excellent-fish was not overdone, chops were medium. Wine list was not huge, but has very nice selections at reasonable prices. Our only gripe was being seated right by the door, which made for a cold breeze at times. Great service, too!

Amazing service and great food
I have been to Fish and Farm once before and I had family in town staying close to the Mark Twain. I love this place because it's upscale dining at a moderate price. My family were still raving about the food and service when we met the next day! :)

Organic Hotel Gem
Fish and Farm is a small restaurant with seating on either side of a central aisle. They make good use of the space and we went there both with our son and for a romantic dinner alone and the restaurant worked well both times. The food is fresh and seasonal and the restaurant prides itself on good, natural food, often from the nearby area. It is located in the Mark Twain Hotel but lacks the normal hotel restaurant feel. The staff is friendly and available without hovering. While the wine list is not huge, it is relatively well priced and had a good variety of choices. It was definitely worth going back to.

Delicious with great service
We came in for a pre bachelorette party dinner. The space is beautiful and our waitress was very friendly and attentive even though we were late. Crab cakes were amazing and the rib eye was to die for!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I went here for my birthday and had an outstanding meal. The service was great and they were more than willing to accommodate my wife's food intolerances, which always makes the experience so much better.

Fresh food great fish!
We like the natural and local food that they have. Loved my fish as it was not dry and very tasty. Special hand cut fries with their spicy steak sauce were super! Delicious fresh fruit dessert tart was amazing. We would go back and do recommend. Not too pricey, either.

Farm to Table Fresh!
I have eaten at Fish and Farm once in the past and it was just as good as I remembered it. The heirloom tomato salad is wonderful and was the sea bass. I appreciate that the food is locally grown and that I can support businesses in my area. The staff was very pleasant and came by numerous times to see if we needed anything. It was easy to converse as the restaurant was somewhat crowed, but not noisy. I will be back to try another menu choice as they all sounded fabulous!

Great pre-theatre dinner!
Every dish was really good but we especially liked the calamari and the fried chicken. Good service and reasonable prices too.

Great Ambiance and Fresh Food
My husband and I dined here for our first anniversary last night. The food was fresh and the service was phenomenal. We sat at a sweet little round table for two and had the most romantic time. Our glasses were constantly topped off. We had the crab cakes appetizer which I thought were pretty good and my husband thought were "delectable" noting that they were moist and fresh with nice apple and greens to garnish. My husband had the salmon which cooked excellently, slightly under seasoned, but enough other flavors on the plate (potatoes/chard-- were epic). I thought both his salmon and my sea bass were a little salty but both cooked and complemented greatly. The deserts were fresh and amazing! We'd recommend it!

Exceptionally good comfort food
The dishes are carefully prepared from farm-fresh ingredients. Everything was well done.

We dined early, so the small
We dined early, so the small place was uncrowned and we had our choice of tables. Chose the booth in the back. Our waiter was excellent, attentive and cordial. We enjoyed our fish selections, although I thought my entree was a bit salty. Do not recommend the Caesar salad.

Fried chicken was delicious!
Fried chicken was delicious! Also they have Shipyard blueberry beer- yay Portland ME!!!

Yummy, friendly atmosphere
We were in San Fran from DC and picked this place based on OpenTable and Yelp reviews. We had the Ahi Tuna and Sea Bass, and with the exception of the Ahi being over cooked our experience was a very good one. Both plates were delicious, our apps were flavorful and we even squeezed in a little room for the cheese plate desert. Our server was Heather and she was very informative, helpful and offered some really good suggestions.

Enjoyable dining experience
Following a matinee play we dinned early at 5 pm on a Sunday evening celebrating our anniversary. We started with the heirloom tomato salad; a split portion was ample. I selected the daily fish special, fresh sea bass, & my husband enjoyed the Niman Ranch pork chop. Both were excellent & came with nice accompaniments. A bottle of Jekel chard went well with our selections. The warm fruit tart & a brownie dessert with vanilla gelatos were also good. All in all, a nice dining experience - good food and service.

Fresh and Eager to Please
Dinner was great the other night at Farm & Fish. After figuring out that the restaurant was tucked away in the corner of the Mark Twain Hotel, we were quickly led to our awaiting table.
The ambiance was simple and clean with a hint of rustic fanfare. Most dinner parties looked to be in their late 40s or older.
Music was top 40 hits with some hip hop, which I found a bit odd for a place catering to upper middle class white people.
Our food was excellent. We started with six oysters, which were raw and tasty.
My main course of Pork Chop was dynamic and a treat, it was served up with fingerling potatoes and I believe sauteed spinach.
Dessert was yummy too.

Good but not great
We enjoyed our dinner at fish & farm. The food was fresh and very tasty. I enjoyed the fish and chips and my wife The fried chicken. I think the fried chicken was better than the fish and chips The service was just okay. I think the server wasn't feeling well that night and it showed. The service didn't have any major deficiencies in it other then they forgot to bring my wife's glass of wine. It was more of a flat and unengaged service experience. Overall a good experience, the winner there is the fresh and delicious food, but the detractor was the service. I would go there again be inclined to try some other places first.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
another great bite
I have now been twice and the food is a solid 4.5. I intend to go back. If ordering the oysters, they are served on a salt bed. The salt crystals sadly got into my osters also one had not been shucked well (shells or grit present). I will still go back but ask for them to be served on a non-salt bed.

greeat pre-theater option
We dine here at least once a year before theater performances. Happy to see that the food is still excellent. The calamari salad was delicious and more interesting than the usual version; and fried chicken and fish and chips were cooked perfectly. Very substantial portions for the price and quality. Only complaint was that the main courses came before we had finished our firsts.

The entrance to the restaurant
The entrance to the restaurant is difficult to find.

This was a pleasant surprise. Last minute chance arose to catch up with old friends on short notice when paths crossed in SF. Took a chance based on OT ratings and quick look at menu. Had a great time. Menu presented was brand new and had lots of intersting choices. At the end gravitated to the outrageously excellent grilled calamari and lamb shoulder, which was also a fine dish. We were still talking about our dinner a day later. Service was great. Wine list was fairly priced. Knock on Ambience is it a small space and tables are cramped, but you just ignore it.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
They were very accommodating even when we were late for our reservation. The food was amazing and they made special accomadations for kids. We had fried chicken, lamb, and porkchops. I ate everything but the bone on the porkchop. I would have ate the bone if I could. It was that good. The oysters were fresh and briny. The dessert was the highlight. Everyone on the table stole my apple tart. It was sweet and buttery but not overwhelming. We had to order a second one so I could eat some. Overall great experience. We are going back again very soon.

Perfect pre-theatre experience
Excellent service this evening. The staff got us in and out with drinks and a full dinner in 45", in time for our 8:00 p.m. curtain. At least five different staff members assisted us over the course of the meal, making sure we had everything we needed when we needed it. Food was tasty and creative, ambiance is friendly, intimate, pleasantly low-keyed in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Geary St. crowds. We'll definitely return.

Decent Hotel Restuarant
We opted to try something new and landed at the FIsh & Farm. Food and service was excellent. My wife's main course was quite small and she ate half of my meal.... If you select the beef ravoli, then order two 'dinner' entrees. They offer an appetizer size as well; however, the entree size should be categorized at an appetizer. Drink presentation was superb but they seemed to have very little alcohol...
Overall, decent spot and will most likely visit again. Certainly order wine next time.

A nice meal for weary conventioneers. Just tired...

Fish & Farm was an unexpected find. The foods was very good and well prepared. Presentation and flavors were at a very high level. The service was good and it was a very enjoyable experience.

Perfect theatre dinning
We read a review about fried chicken and wanted to try it. The location was perfect for dinner combined with our ACT tickets. This Resturant is 1block away. I was surprised to find it in a hotel. It's very small. Our dinners were great. There s a new chef, it was hs first week. So all previous reviews are not valid. I'd reccommend giving this a try if you're looking for something in this neighborhood.

old school dininig
compared to so many new places with sleek metal and bare concrete this one felt very old school with the decor and such but in a good way. our dishes (crab ravioli, could use more crab, and lamb, great texture) came out fast, almost too fast. tasty wines (chardonnay and albarino).
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fantastic, healthy food!
The food was remarkably good. Everything was perfectly made, beautifully presented, and amazingly delicious. We had to restrain ourselves from licking the plates. Although the portions were somewhat small, there was enough to satisfy our appetites. We highly recommend this restaurant!

before Theatre doesn't get much bet
What a find, to have a scrumptious meal within a block or two of ACT! Very intimate and cozy but comfortable. It was very hard to decide between the salmon and Nieman Schell Pork chop with braised cabbage and bacon. Every dish on adjoining tables looks too good, tantalizing. I am going back and soon. I went with my 13 year old son and he was very pleased with the steak, the family to our left with two young boys enjoyed the organic fried chicken and french fries.
Highly recommend! Whether you are going to theatre or hungry after shopping, this is a terrific spot.

A nice surprise
We picked the restaurant for its proximity to the GG Theatre.
Only had time for appetizers and sides, but they were great. Soup and artichoke salad.

First time visit. All the dishes were quite good. Tried the chicken, cod and fish and chips. Calamari shared appetizer was very tasty and a departure from fried versions.

'Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The Sage Gimlets were the "Absolute" bomb!! Our waiter, Sean was both attentive and accomodating. Over all the food was yummy but could have been a little hotter...

Goat milk cheesecake light & creamy.

We enjoyed an early supper at Fish & Farm this past weekend. We tried the cioppino, crab ravioli and the burger. All were delicious and perfectly prepared. The wines by the glass offerings were plentiful and varied. Service was terrific. Our only slight disappointment was the profiteroles dessert. Something was lacking, but no big deal, given how flavorful the rest of the meal was. Ask for a seat away from the outside door to avoid a chilly draft.

A Nice Surprise
small intimate restaurant with great personable staff. The food was fantastic, good portions: the salmon and sauce was done perfectly. the quinoa was beautifully prepared. the bar is separate from the restaurant which helps cut down on the noise. will definitely go back.

To fish or farm
Ordered the mussels with mushroom sauce, crab stuffed ravioli, porkchop, artichoke salad and seafood cioppini. Their farm meat are all organic, the porkchop was extremely moist and delicious, the crab ravioli was stuffed with a generous amount of crab meat with a faint hint of truffle oil but I find their cioppini was a bit lacking in flavor. The mussels with mushroom sauce had me dipping my fries and bread over and over again. Would come back next time.

Downtown Dining Find
We are exploring downtown restaurants in connection with our season tickets to the SF Performances Rex Salon concerts. Fish and Farm is the best find so far - great food and service, small, intimate dining (loved our booth for two!), really interesting cocktails (try the winter wine cooler with fresh juniper). We are keeping this one on the list for return trips!
