The service was exceptional
The service was exceptional and food very, very good. I had the Pappadelle and my husband the pork chop. The Pappadelle was exceptional, fantastic. The only problem we had was the pork chop my husband ordered was dry. That said, the sauce served with it was very tasty so he just used it to saturate the chop. We have found it is very difficult to get a good, moist pork chop in general. Other than that, we would absolutely return.

We enjoyed our meal. Since
We enjoyed our meal. Since it was in hotel, which we didn't realize, it was expensive. It was especially so for our eating partners, who neglected to ask how much the special lamb chop dish was. It was $42 ! (pretty high since other entrees were nearer to $30.}
Service was outstanding.

Fennel salad was wonderful
Fennel salad was wonderful - light and crisp. Chicken breast with crisp polenta was so very good. My friends' penne pasta was delicious. Only "complaint" was that there was too much cocoa atop the otherwise yummy teramisu. Well worth checking out. I know we will go again.

Most enjoyable! The Wild Boar Osso Bucco and Risotto was fabulous! Excellent food, wonderful service and quiet enough to converse with your party.

Amazing but at 38 I was a youngin.
The food was absolutely amazing (apps, entree, and dessert and I cleaned all 3 plates). Our waiter was attentive and friendly and everything came to the table perfectly timed. My only gripe is that the manager (some older man standing at the front with the host) was overbearing and needs to let the highly competent waitstaff do their job. He was hovering and made everything seem too urgent when we were trying to have a romantic evening. I marked down the ambiance because the place seems to attract loud complaining old people, and as expensive as the place is, I didn't appreciate someone bringing their screaming crying baby. Luckily the baby crying only ruined our dessert.

The food was nicely presented
The food was nicely presented and very tasty. Our waiter was just outstanding. The service was a little slow due to a large group ahead of us and he was very gracious. Well located for a night out to the theater. Very convenient from BART.

We enjoyed an early dinner at Zingari on Saturday evening. This is not a big noisy place; it is small and intimate. Our table was ready when we arrived, service was attentive, and the food and drink really nice. We used the price-fix menu for our selections and found it included several really great choices for all three courses. We enjoyed it and will return.

50th Anniversary Celebration
I needed a restaurant to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with family members. I preferred a private room, but the extra cost was more than I wanted to pay, and I didn't want a predetermined menu. After exchanging emails with owner Krishan Miglani, I decided on Zingari Ristorante. Krishan said he could offer a semi-private table for our party of nine. We couldn't have been happier with the setting in the small room adjacent to the Marble Room. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the excellent food, and the service was superb. Best of all, we were not rushed in the least. In fact they allowed us to stay as long as we wanted, which was greatly appreciated because getting everyone together from different parts of the state is a rare treat.

Top notch Italian food reasonably priced. Live jazz every night! Their ragus are the best.
7/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was great, perfect in fact. We sat near the bar and there were musicians playing a variety songs, which was nice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the perfect food.

Excellent food comes at a price
The restaurant was full but we got seated promptly. Our "overflow dining room" was a bit dark and cold, maybe you want to ask for the main dining room? We showed up in tourist cloths after a day of sightseeing and we felt a bit under-dressed. However, we were treated nicely and served promptly. The only complaint would be that we got talked into an appetizer for 6 that turned out to cost us about $100. Other than that, everything was good. The pizza was mor personal size and seemed expensive at $20 but the pasta was excellent and the fish soup outstanding. Wine list is good but not huge with a few gems. Normally I wouldn't go back because of the prices, but for San Francisco it seemed ok. At least you get really good quality food!

Was great for lunch. Very quiet and not many people but this may not hold true for dinner.

Once the live music started,
Once the live music started, we weren't able to carry on a conversation at our table - though the combo was great. If quiet conversation is important and music is scheduled the night you are enjoying the fine cuisine at Zingari, ask to be seated in the alternate dining room away from the piano.

Excellent food and service
I had the calamari and was hot light and large portion. It could have Ben shared by two people. I then had the risotto with mushrooms and it was delicious. It was well cooked and very flavourful. My wife had the ravioli stuffed with portobello mushrooms and shrimp on top. It was also delicious. We finished with the profiteroles and again shared it at two and it was great. The service was excellent and attentive without feeling rushed. We would definitely go back.

A real Zinger
Make a reservation here-- this is my idea of a great Italian restaurant. Try their Oso Buco, it is superb. Elegant decor, excellent service, great food, a real find. Couldn't be easier to get to, just off Union Square, upstairs in Donatello Hotel, with windows on Post Street, fine people-watching.

I keep coming back. The food is excellent and the service is fantastic. It feels like being around old friends. They have a full menu, but I almost always try one of their daily specials.

Our 42nd anniverary was spent
Our 42nd anniverary was spent enjoying a wonderful dinner. My wife enjoyed her crab and lobster raviolis, and I loved the shrimp risotto. Our waiter was very attentive and made certain our every wish was fulfilled. The flowers I had arranged to be on the table at our reserved time were there, and cared for prior to our arrival. A great place for a special occasion!

We selected this place because of the jazz singer who was scheduled for a Saturday night. First surprise was waiter who was himself Italian and was of the professional European school. Second was that we could just hear the singer's act in the bar (fabulous) while enjoying our dinner. Quality of food was very good, even got rare steak as ordered. Do be careful to ask for prices on the specials as they were not in line with pricing on the menu -- last surprise was a bill much higher than expected. But they kindly let us move to the bar with our dessert and cordials to hear the singer. We had expected bigger bar area and this was only a few tables. How they got an act like Amanda King to sing there is a mystery but it was great for us!

Best night out in San Francisco
We loved our evening at Zingari. If we had discovered it earlier in our stay we would have visited more then once.
We loved the jazz bar - we had pre-dinner cocktails in the bar listening to the gorgeous male piano player and female jazz singer - they were both very accommodating of requests and they created a playful, fun atmosphere.
Dinner was superb. WE thoroughly enjoyed our meals - best meal we had in San Francisco - the pasta was so fresh it just melted in our mouths. The service was friendly and efficient and we had some fun with our waiters.
All in all an excellent experience and a great night out. Thank you Zingari Ristorante!

Solid but not amazing.
The food was very good. The service was ok. We felt like because we didnt order wine we didnt receive the same service as other tables.

Our last night in San Fran
Our last night in San Fran and we needed a place that was close to our hotel.... we found a great place in Zingari. It's located in a large hotel, but the feel of the place is very small. The staff from the matre de to the waiter to the wait staff were all excellence. Better yet the food was fabulous. We each had something different and each plate was enjoyed. Next time we're in San Fran we'll definitely go back.

A special, memorable evening
We chose this restaurant because it was recommended on TripAdvisor. The concierge at the hotel enthusiastically seconded the recommendation. This is a fabulous little Italian, family-owned place in Union Square. Modestly upscale, but comfortable. The staff are warm and attentive. We had an outstanding meal, from cocktails to dessert. You will not be disappointed. It was perfect.

Great Italian Near Union Square
When in San Francisco for vacation we tried to avoid the tourist-y and the over-rated/outdated Italian places. That's no small feat, especially when looking for a later dinner with reservations. Based on some other reviews, this place seemed worth taking a shot with. We were very glad with the results. Service was friendly and attentive. The place had a nice ambiance that could serve both for a business dinner or a romantic date. The food was prepared well and very tasty and overall very satisfying. There was a live jazz band playing. We were a few rooms away, so the volume level was good. (I can see it being too loud if you were closer to them.)
The prices were very reasonable and portions were generous. I would return here.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were great personally by the general manager and the owner during the evening. It was a nice touch. The food was great. The Lobster ravioli special was just right with a nice pink cream sauce. The waiter was on top of things but not bothersome as can sometimes be the case. We look forward to going back again.

Good authentic Italian Meal
Excellent ambiance and feel. Food was outstanding. One of the best dinner salads I've had in a while. Prices were reasonable as well.

Great and Convenient
Food and service are very good at this hidden gem. Safe and convenient walk for those staying near Union Square. The Northern Italian menu is varied, as is the good wine list. Great for small groups.

Found this restaurant through Open Table, other sites were sending me elsewhere. My search was for areas near the Theater and walking distance away,( We had some that could not walk far).
Reviews on the restaurant were up and and down, but took a chance.
Setting was nice for after the theater, were able to talk, noise level was low.
Food service was a little slow, but not rushed. Allowed us to recap the evening.
Food selection was good, stayed away from the bad reviews just in case.
Wine selection was limited, but did have a good bottle.
Deserts were simple, after dinner and wine it was enough

Some friends and I went to
Some friends and I went to the Curran Theatre on Saturday. When we met up we realized we had not made any plans for dinner after the show. A quick Open Table search revealed Zingari was right around the corner from the theatre. We figured we would give it a try based off the reviews.
We arrived a little before the restaurant opened, but were seated with a minimum of delay. Our waiter was Stefano and he took excellent care of us. Drinks were served promptly (try the Moscow Mule) and the specials very well described. I had the Saltimbucca and it was very good. Each of us tried something different and all meals were very good.
Will most assuredly return in the future.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We took some out-of-town guests here for dinner after a show and it was absolutely great. The dining area is small and narrow but there are windows and mirrors so we didn't feel closed in. The wait staff were amazingly atuned to needs and made some good recommendations. Three of us had the lamb chop special with a wine reduction sauce and it honestly was the best sauce I've every tasted. It is expensive but you will get what you expect.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We dined for lunch. Very large place but only a few tables had diners.
The food was very good and so was the service.

Great dinner before theatre
We looked on open table for a restaurant near the Curran theatre. Zingari fit the bill for us. We were seated at a window table. Our meals were delicious and the wait staff was attentive without hovering. We did not feel rushed whatsoever.

We found this gem on Open Table looking for a late night spot near the Curran Theater. After a wonderful performance of Beautiful, we walked to our new adventure dining spot and what a wonderful surprise. This restaurant has an outstanding staff, from maitre de to our fabulous waiter, Stefano and his assistant. They were all charming attentive and fun. The music of piano and singer continued our special enjoyment, they are very good and play on Friday evenings. Now to the food we each had a different dish and everyone was very pleased, including desert, wine and cocktails. It was a perfect evening and we will return many times to this great restaurant.

Reservation and Seated Where?
We made a reservation and hoped to be seated in the main part of the restaurant; however, we were seated at a small low table in the bar area. It was loud due to the bar traffic, people behind us cheering on sports games that were being televised at the bar, and the overall commotion bars tend to have. Additionally, our tabke was so small that each of us dropped our utensils on the floor.
Food was excellent and service was good. If we go back, we will request a table not in the bar area.

Great Italian Restaurant
I was in SF this past weekend for the Nike Women's Marathon, and selected the restaurant for the pre-race pasta meal. The restaurant was busy due to the number of increased reservations to accommodate the runners - but the food, atmosphere, and service were still great. Our waiter was busy - but was attentive if needed. The food was great and would go to the restaurant again.

Nice Italian Restaurant
Went here after play at Curran Theatre. very convenient, excellent food, nice setting, very understated. Small bar. Seems like a good choice for pre or post theatre lunch/dinner. Had an appetizer sampler that was excellent as was my wild boar osso bucco.
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
nice italian restaurant
Very nice service. I had mahimahi w/pesto sauce. It was very good except I found the pesto too oily for my taste. My DH had veal saltonbocco and said it was excellent.
They may have other rooms that had more ambience but we sat in a room one floor up over looking the street, mirrored to make it appear larger since there were only appx 12 tables.
On the whole the food and service were very good

Went to Zingari while visiting
Went to Zingari while visiting San Francisco... There wasn't a lot of vegetarian options unfortunately and prices are quite high. A meal for two vegetarians w one glass of wine was 80$. They had live jazz music (I'm guessing every Saturday night) which was really romantic so I would recommend this place to a couple looking to go on a romantic date night. Food was good despite the price and service was excellent.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
Met a friend and enjoyed the service and the excellent food. Only downside was my first two selections from the half-bottle wine list were not available. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable evening.

Great food, but skip the lounge.
The food was spectacular, but the piano lounge is lame. It's not bad exactly, just oddly mediocre in an otherwise wonderful establishment.

Just Feed Us
Quintessential Italian with a hit of Old School...
When we sat down I asked our party if they would like to do something fun. I asked the waiter to just feed us at which point he was visibly excited and brought us out three courses plus a paired bottle of wine which was excellent. All in all a most excellent meal.
Definitely would return.

Great restaurant only steps away from our hotel. It was a great find, the food was good and the wait staff was very knowledgeable about the various dishes on the menu.

We were late for our reservation
We were late for our reservation and they seated us right away. We had a play to go to and they also delivered our food right away and we had time to relax. The food was wonderful and the service was great.

Best Italian in Years!
Our experience started with our wonderful waiter Stefano. The food them followed and it knocked us over. The clams and linguini were the best I ever had. My colleagues had the home made ravioli., both with different sauces. You must try this restaurant when in the union square area!

Zingari was a big hit
I booked Zingari for a business dinner party of six during the big Dreamforce invasion this week. Everyone was well taken care of from the moment they arrived. The prompt, informative, and friendly waitstaff put us all in a great mood. The food came out with just the right amount of time between courses for my party to be able to engage in some great dialogue. The food was well presented and delicious. Anything extra that anyone in my party needed was provided quickly. Our evening at Zingari was a great success!
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
The wild boar Ossobuco and crab cakes with truffle oil (Polpette di Granchio con Panzanella) were exceptional; our waiter, Stephano was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. A real surprise to find such a pleasant restaurant in Union Square.

Italian near Union Sq.
Excellent food and outstanding service. Stephan was particularly helpful and friendly. A smaller menu and not family style. Several interesting dishes including tagliatelle with beef which was quite good. A very nice potato soup and mixed green salad as starters and then pasta for our main courses. The bread was fresh, warm and served with fresh olive oil and a nice balsamic vinegar. The bar was hosting a holiday private function so the noise level was probably a little more than usual.
