Great for a catch up!
My girlfriends and i had a great experience at Rio! The good was delicious, the margaritas were strong and the service was nice. The tables were on top of each other, but this place gets packed. Overall great experience!

El Rio Grande has been my
El Rio Grande has been my neighborhood fave for years. Great staff, food and service. Have had several larger functions here and management was tops at putting it all together. You don't find great places like this too often. These guys always make it happen just right.

No complaints here!
Met a couple of friends for late lunch so it wasn't too crowded (Mexico side), had super meals, empamnadas & enchildas (very reasonably priced) and had wonderful service! I used to be a regular back in the late 80's so was happy to know it was still operating. The mistake I made was not asking the price for a Skinny Margarita.....$15!!!! and I had TWO!!!! OMG Need I say more? LOL Can't imagine that you would be disappointed!

This restaurant has had its ups and downs through the years, but is still great and worth the revisit. Service is a little spotty, as it's always busy, but the staff are pleasant.

Grand Time at El Rio Grande
On a Friday at 9:30 pm the restaurants on my" to-try" list were booked. El Rio Grande, recommended by an acquaintance several years ago, had space and was within walking distance of our hotel. I'm so sorry I waited 4 years to try it. Margaritas were strong, delicious and reasonably priced. The sampler plate had enchiladas with mole and tomatillo sauce, both well-prepared. The hostess greeted me by name when we entered. We loved the vibe; it reminded us of the one at our favorite now closed Zarela. Waiters were attentive. Diners, all younger than we, lingered in the festive atmosphere. We were thrilled to find this restaurant and will certainly be back. A find!

Famous for their margaritas and its no surprise why. With a bunch of different flavors to choose from even if you're not much of a margarita fan you'll fall in love with it here. Outdoor seating allows for both a happy hour loud feel as well as a more quieter appeal on the other side of the restaurant (although you do have to walk through the kitchen to get there but hey! At least you knew it was clean) We just got an appetizer but it came out fast and was delicious. If you go though you must get one of their premium margaritas, but make sure you keep it to two or under because they are wonderfully strong.

Consistently Very Good
It's been 25 years since my wife and I lived in Manhattan. We enjoyed El Rio Grande at least twice monthly when we did. They food was always very good, they had traditional and innovative menu choices, and offered a superb list of various fresh margaritas.
Guess what- nothing has changed! My wife and I booked an reservation there while in Manhattan for a few days and had a terrific dinner. And the guacamole was the best we have had in a long, long time.
Must Have: the shrimp stuffed jalapenos are outstanding, and the tableside prepared guacamole is made how you like it.
In a city with an every changing restaurant it's great to see the quality and execution of El Rio grande hasn't been diminished.

great for drinks, good for food
the food is slightly above average but the drinks are great. however, recently someone told me that the margs used to be $5 and now the price has doubled. they're still worth it, in my opinion. fun spot.

Great Mexican spot located near grand central. One Margarita is enough! They could work on the decor a bit more.

Go for the guac!
Excellent reasonably priced Mexican food. The guacamole is a must, it's a tad expensive but you get a large portion and it's outstanding. Frozen margaritas also very good with many choices of flavors. My date and I both had enchiladas which were very good (she had seafood, I had steak).
