Lunch at the LockWood Restaurant
Great place for a business lunch in the heart of downtown. The lunch items are very interesting and innovative. Bento box right next lobster roll with your choice of salad or fruit. Go for the sweet fruit side since the salad was just a few small leaves of lettuce. I would call that garnish rather than salad. But the ambiance is perfect for a business lunch on a very professional setting without too many interruptions from the staff. They were there just when needed. Good tap water without the chlorine taste. They must pour bottled water, which all restaurants of this caliber should do. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit.

Outstanding Dining Experience
Was a little bit worried about dining here because it was in a hotel. So glad that we decided to make reservations. The experience was oustanding, from our waiter to the food. We did the wine pairings with the chef's selections. The restaurant/chef did one of the best jobs I have ever experienced of pairing the wine with the food. Will definetly be returning for another visit.

Great Dinner & Theatre Combo
Great place to have a nice meal before heading to the Bank of America Theatre. Restaurant is in the main lobby of the Palmer House Hotel so it is a very short walk between the two. The main lobby is great to walk through and sit in, although you cannot see it from the restaurant because of curtains. That is unfortunate because the noise of the lobby does come in but you don't get to enjoy the view of the lobby. It can be a bit noisy but it wasn't a major detraction. Food is excellent! The Prix Fixe menu had excellent options and the service was great!

Great food. Overpriced
The food was good. Some desserts were good but I felt that they focused more on how the desserts looked than how they tasted. The check surprised me since it was $68 for service even though all the waiters did was poor sparkling juice in my cup. I could've done that myself.
5/11/2013 4:00:00 PM
Quality of food and atmosphere are outstanding. Should be harder to get reservations.

Good but limited menu
The variety was limited. The food was excellent for me (sea scallops and salmon) but my wife thought the Monk fish needed a more flavorful sauce. There is chicken on the fixed price menu but not the regular menu. The desserts on the fixed price menu were not offered to us but we did ask and receive the custard. We don't understand why they limit a very limited menu. The bar was hopping on Friday night.

Expensive but good hotel option
Great steaks and wine list, pricey, good for business meals. Convenient location in Palmer House Hilton, great bar scene in lobby.

Very good food. Nice atmosphere and wonderful service.

Enjoyed the vegetable risotto and the foie gras with cherries but the scallops were over salted.

Lockwood's in Chicago
We were in town at the Palmer House celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered the prix fixe dinner options from 5 PM to 10 PM at such an upscale restaurant. We had a wonderful dinner and the food was delicious. The waiter was attentive and made helpful suggestions. We hope to return soon.
Oh and they had gluten free beer-which is a plus for me.

Great when seeing a show.
This place is a block away from the Bank of America theatre. So you can finish dinner at 7:20PM and still get there with 5 minutes to spare. The mood is slightly on the "dimmed light" look. More romantic. Nice use of mirrors with cut outs. Seemed to have more hotel guest using it since it's in the Palmer House on Monroe. Menu is limited in selections compared to other places. You may want to go on line to check it out. And it is pricy $$$. No bottle of wine under $42. Tab will reach just over $200 for two with: Tax (Chicago charges 10%) and tip. Meals were perfectly prepared and presented. First class place. There is parking lots all around and you pay Chicago parking prices too.
6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Really great wine list and has an amazing wine library, so if you don't see what you want-ask, they might have it. The food was great, very eclectic and a spectacular tasting menu and prix fix menu. My only comment is that this place is NOT under $30 as it is billed it is $30-50+, there is NOTHING under $30. So be aware, worth it but not as advertised.

I've made several visits to Lockwood and the experience never fails to delight. The food is so inventive and prepared expertly. The room is very attractive and the service is attentive and capable.

Great location and terrific for business lunch or romantic dinner

Wonderful Chicago restaurant
Lockwood was a very good restaurant with choices of an a la carte menu, a pris fixe menu and a tasting menu. My husband and I did the pris fixe menu. We thought it was a good value and the food was delicious.

Dinner and a Show
Great place for a nice dinner before catching a show at the Bank of America Theatre. They timed the courses out perfectly and our meals were delicious. The dessert menu was less than exciting, but that was ... We shared the only dessert that looked appealing, but it was disappointing. Next time I will order an extra starter and stay away from dessert.

Nice dinner before a show
My husband and I ate at Lockwood before going to a play. The location is excellent for this type of occasion. We enjoyed the sophisticated ambiance of the restaurant as well as the bar in the lobby of the Palmer House. The food was quite good. As a plus, I was offered a gluten-free roll (I have a restricted diet for medical reasons), which was delicious. I would definitely go back.

Mom's 60th Birthday
I took my mother for dinner at Lockwood for her 60th birthday, and it was a wonderful time. Chef Joe Rose created a tasting menu especially for us, which was loaded with decadent extras like Australian truffles, caviar, oysters and foie gras. The service was intimate and professional, and the wine list was extensive. She had a great time, and we both loved the food.

Lockwood, within the historical
Lockwood, within the historical Palmer House, is a choice location for dining, for this four-star restaurant is within easy walking distance of the Art Institute, the theatre district, the Bean, and the bandshell. The waitstaff is exceptional in their friendliness, menu knowledge, and attention to patrons. Although the menu is not extensive, fish, poultry, beef, and pork dishes are available; thee presentation is excellent. The bar and lobby scene is happy and vibrant, although the noise level carries over to the restaurant. We would dine at Lockwood Restaurant again.
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our dinner at Lockwood -- not the first time, nor will it be the last, I hope -- was pretty much perfect. Food was sophisticated, creative and very flavorful. Service was excellent. Very nice cocktails and wine list. If I HAD to come up with a complaint (well, to be fair, I suppose): portions could be a tad more generous. But that's a minor quibble in a restaurant of this top caliber.

Lockwood is a hidden gem
So often we ignore restaurants in hotels when we live in a city. The Lockwood dining experience was wonderful. Great service, helpful suggestions on wine and food. The food was terrific, classic, simple preparations which brought out the best in the food. I am so over foams, frills and science experiments. This was delicious food using top quality ingredients. The filet was better than any I have had at the many Chicago steakhouses. My friend's pork was the best I have ever tasted and the peach dessert combo was the perfect finish. We definitely will be going back. This place is great pre-theater. They check with you right away to see if you have tickets which we did and then pace the dinner to match your timetable.

perfect before seeing a show
We enjoyed a dinner at Lockwood before seeing a show at the Bank of America Theatre across the street. They have a fabulous prix fixe menu, and everything was delicious. The menu was small, but still some good variety.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and enjoyed dinner at Lockwood. It was our first visit and we found the entire staff friendly, engaging and hospitable. Our waiter (O.J.) was very familiar with the menu and took great care of us as did the wine steward.

Risotto was delicious. Menu a little limited but still many options. Portions a bit small for the price but perfect to make you not be stuffed

Ambiance changes with noise and general abundance of guests when hotel has booked a meeting/convention.

Service was very good. No complaints at all. The server was very helpful/knowledgeable. Overall wonderful experience.

Prepared simply but vey well, the evidentially locally grown chicken was delicious.

Reunion with old friends
Friends from out of town were attending a convention in Chicago, and the Palmer House was the convenient place to meet. One of our friends can't walk very far, so we chose the Lockwood Restaurant for our dinner. Each of us ordered something different, and each choice was judged excellent. Servers were attentive and courteous and went out of their way to be helpful. Lobby nearby was crowded, and we ate relatively early, so noise from lobby was somewhat distracting during cocktails. That soon subsided, and the remainder of the dinner was very enjoyable. We were not rushed, and spent a long time at our table talking.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant was a great find. Located in the Palmer House Hotel, which makes the setting beautiful and convenient to the theater. The food was delicious. We both had fish, snapper and trout, and they were beautifully prepared and delicious. The portion size was perfect. The service was ok. It took a while for the server to greet us and an unusual amount of time for a bottle of wine and the restaurant was not busy. After the wine came the service seemed to improve. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it and I would go back.

Special Birthday Dinner
We chose Lockwood for a pre-Book of Mormon dinner because of their 20% off special. We were pleasantly surprised by the hearty, delicious homegrown cuisine and the excellent drinks (including the coffee). The use of roof-top garden grown vegetables in the salads and entrees were flavorful and well presented. The roasted farm chicken was moist and tender and the rainbow trout was perfectly cooked. Both portions were generous. The free birthday dessert was a nice way to end the dinner. The wait staff were personable and helpful. Too bad The Book of Mormon wasn't as good!

Pre-theatre dining choice
We were looking for a nice downtown dining experience before attending "The Book of Mormon." Lockwood is ideally located one block east on Monroe. We were quite pleased with the quality of food and service, and with the chance to converse quietly on a Sunday evening.

Nice place for a pre-theater meal.
The restaurant is beautiful, inside the Palmer House Hotel. The noise level allowed for easy conversation. Our waiter, Javier, was wonderful and service was quick, friendly, and efficient. The food was delicious; I got to try the monkfish and the pork shank. I would definitely return.

Great for visitors in town!
We took my parents here for a brunch - fantastic. The food and service were impeccable. Only downside is that the food took a while to come out, so dont plan on going and getting out fast.

We had a nice lunch. Nothing spectacular, but more than adequate.

Went for a breakfast meeting. The food was good. However, the restaurant was freezing.

This is my favorite place
This is my favorite place in the Loop. It is convenient for pre-theatre dinner or lunch because of its proximity not only to Loop theatres but to Symphony Center and to cultural events in Millenium Park. I've never had a mediocre meal here and the waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable. The BEST!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
If you want a hasslefree lunch in a decent ambience Lockwood is a good match. The lunch menu is really short (one could say restricted), but what is being served is as good as what you can expect from a restaurant in the Palmer House. Not really cheap, but fast and efficient and actually a 'no brainer' to go there for a quick lunch.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Dependable across the board
We chose this even for a pre-theater meal even though it was a few blocks further from the theater than we usually prefer because we knew that we could depend on the restaurant never to disappoint and it didn't. Though the hotel lobby area and balconies were brimming with noisy and busy private parties, the restaurant was an island of calm. I chose a prix fixe menu while my wife ordered an appetizer and entrée and all were creative in ingredient choice and excellent in flavor and presentation. The pacing was just right and the wine selection was offered in two serving sizes, always a very nice touch. Lockwood's remains an excellent choice.

An outstanding meal....
Both I and my companion had the lamb shanks and they were absolutely delicious. The beans and kale that were part of the dish were an excellent addition and the gravy was wonderful as well! The room is beautiful and set within the gorgeous, renovated Palmer House Hotel. A friendly staff and excellent server completed the fine dinner experience.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a pleasure!
The Prix Fixe Dinner is always my favorite way to dine here. The chef's selections are properly seasoned and beautifully served. We eat first with our eyes! It was a wonderful dining experience!

I really enjoyed the food
I really enjoyed the food and our server Javier was very attentive and easy to deal with. It was quiet and peaceful when we went. We had a 7pm reservation and they accommodated and seated us early because our downtown show got out early. Definitely recommend this establishment. Food was phenomenal. The scallops were a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Only one issue
The food was great, but the issue was the serve dropping the bill not asking if we wanted anything else after we order desert. Then just hung around waiting on the check to be signed and returned. He had other tables so he wasn't leaving any time soon.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
We celebrated my wife's birthday. It was the perfect choice and my wife was enchanted by the service, the food, and the atmosphere. We have travelled the world and this restaurant has moved to the top of our list of favorites.

I think the food met the expectation of Thanksgiving food. The buffet price was a little high.

Lockwood and Palmer House a hit
the Lockwood is right off the beautiful Palmer House lobby and they share a great bar. If you want to be part of the hustle and bustle of the lobby, the bar you can sit in the lobby side of the bar or in a table in the lobby. Great people watching. If you want to have a quiet drink, the side of the bar that is inside the restaurant is the ticket. The restaurant itself is beautifully done. Our table was remarkably quiet despite the fact we were near the window that opens into the lobby. The food was excellent, if a bit pricey, and the service was good. All around, a great escape from the very busy downtown area.
