The Summer Shack, good as always
The Summer Shack on Dalton St. in Boston's Back Bay is our favorite pregame place when going to a Red Sox game. There are always ample tables, great food and attentive service. I had the fish tacos, which were delicious and my companion had the crab meat club sandwich. We shared an order of steamers, which were also good. This will continue to be our before game place to go to have good food and a nice glass of wine before the game.

The food was very good but the loud music made conversation difficult.

Nice casual spot for pre-show meal!
We had 4 families of Girl Scouts all having dinner at Summer Shack before heading to Symphony Hall for a Pops show. The staff was great, and we all enjoyed a delicious meal before they got us out the door in plenty of time for the show. The food was delicious and we all had a great time.

Enjoyed the great seafood and cold beer. Just what we look for when visiting Boston!

Great lobster & scallops. Waiter was honest about lobster being messy, but it was worth it! Service was great too.

We were pleasantly surprised! I am a Fish-n-Chips aficionado; I try them wherever I see it on a menu. Normally I do NOT care for the 'one big filet' or when the menu says 'battered' when it is really breaded. This was both one big piece, AND breaded...and I loved it! Tartar sauce was exceptional also!

Summer Shack doesn't disappoint
Great find, and delicious lobster dinner at a fair price. Waiter exceptional, and staff very friendly & accommodating.

Excellent mussels and lobster
The mussels appetizer was OUTSTANDING! My wife wouldn't let them take the bowl away when we finished the mussels as we continued to dip our bread in the sauce. Wow, it was great.
And, the lobsters were terrific. My wife had the steamed and I had the grilled and both were delicious.

Had a reservation and was seated exactly on time. The server greeted us promptly and wad knowledgeable , pleasant and efficient. The food was fresh and delicious. While nothing would be notably difficult to prepare and is simple food you could sure screw it up pretty easily and they did not at all. The oysters were incredibly fresh and delicious and simply served. Had the paella and pan roasted lobster, both extremely tasty. Took the waiters suggestion and got rice with the pan roasted lobster instead of corn on cob, eat it any other and you are missing out. We'll be back and can't wait.

Good Introduction to Boston Dining
My husband and I ate here when I was in Boston for a sorority convention. We chose Summer Shack because he wanted a seafood place (being what Boston is known for) and it was located kitty corner from our hotel (Sheraton Boston Back Bay). We had a reservation for 5:00 pm, but didn't really need it. We were seated promptly, and got water right away, but after we placed our order, the service really dropped off. My husband had a bowl of clam chowder and a shrimp po'boy...he was pleased with both. I had fried clams, which were excellent. The portion sizes were perfect. They also had an extensive beer, wine, and cocktail list. I thought the prices were a bit high, but I guess for Boston and the Back Bay neighborhood, they were reasonable

Needed a relatively quick,
Needed a relatively quick, efficient, seafood-y meal at the last minute and near the North End prior to 4th of July fireworks. With the Summer Shack, I found all of these - and a great lobster roll! - in the nick of time thanks to an 11th hour internet search. Had a charming ambiance and, despite knowing it was a regional chain restaurant, really enjoyed the menu. Great seafood fare at a reasonable price. Would highly recommend the lobster roll.

Our Boston Stop
We always go to dinner at summer shack when we come to Boston in the summer. Never disappoints

Fun, casual, and good!
We had terrific oysters, crab legs, and crisp, buttery, griddled corn bread while watching the Red Sox play the Yankees on tv. The game was being played in Fenway Park, nearby, but we had better seats and no sunburn.

Summer Shack Consistent Time and tt
As a regular visitor to the Summer Shack I find the restaurant to always be consistent in food and service. The food is always fresh and tasty, the staff is efficient. The daily selections are always good quality. Great place to go before a Red Sox game-Close to the stadium and easy in aond out parking close by.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good crab cakes, mussels were excellent, too with a wonderful creamy garlic sauce! Place is casual with brown paper table coverings.

Close Your Eyes and Smell The Shore
Service was pleasant and professional. No gushing, thank God.
The oysters were fresh, and delicious, featuring many specific East Coast varieties. Second plates were equally good: tuna tartare was beautifully prepared and clam chowder lived up to all my hopeful expectations about White's recipe.
Main courses were terrific: Arctic Char that was perfectly prepared, and wood-fired lobster. The infusion of smoke into the lobster meat made butter redundant.
We got exactly what we hoped for: fresh seafood served in ways that honored what is great about traditional New England shore fare.

good food good times
Food was very delicious! Very fresh. I had the mostly crab crab cakes, phenomenal! A few raw oysters and the wings, oh the wings! Fall of the bone. Full of flavor all the way through! My boyfriend choose the paella. The flavor was good, but we typically like a drier paella, rather than soupy. But that's just personal preference, not to steer anyone away from it. All in all very enjoyable!

The food was good, nice selection at the bar and great location. The service was outstanding!

Great, yummy, no-fuss, seafood
If you want yummy, messy, no-holds-barred just-plain delicious seafood and not have to do the whole chop house fancy steak house dress-up thing- then Jasper White's Summer Shack is the place for you. Butter, salt, lobster, clams and beer... what's not to love?

Best lobster place in Boston
Been several times and it is our go-to spot for an informal and tasty lobster dinner in Boston.

My husband and I had a great experience here. The grilled calamari was exceptional!!!! We'll be back!
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our first visit to Summer Shack - the food was very good (too plentiful) and the service, despite being very busy, was just fine. We will definitely return.

My family always goes to the Summer Shack before a game at fenway....couple of minutes walk after a fantastic meal.

Delicious seafood! Friendly
Delicious seafood! Friendly casual, but nice atmosphere. Best food we had in Boston, better than a higher-priced seafood place. Nice chowder, swordfish was sublime--as good as it gets, with fresh vegetables. Our entire party loved it.

First time here. Menu was outstanding! Perfect for an upscale restaurant at the lake. There was something for everyone. If you had little ones or more picky eaters there were sandwiches and many things for them, yet there were interesting items for the more adventuresome.

First time at Summer Shack
The food and service were both great. I will definitely be going back for more seafood. Wish the lobster prices were lower but otherwise, great place to have a meal.

restaurant week lunch into dinner
We went for lunch in restaurant week but it didn't offer restaurant week lunch menu on Sunday. I wish it would mention that they are not restaurant week lunch menu on Sunday and If I knew I wouldn't go.
The crab cake was good and it had a lot of crab meat. The rest of appetizers were ok. Clam chowder was runny & lack of clam meats. All entrees were mostly good except sirloin tips were over cooked and rubbery .
Our server was too busy at beginning but after than he was great. He kept glasses full.

Keep on truckin'
Many years ago, visiting Boston, we ate at Jaspar's restaurant. We loved it.
Now we've found him again! Different spin, still great food.

Dinner at the Shack
Server Joe was very friendly and helpful in deciding drinks and entree. Drinks: White Sangria and Watermelon Martini were both very good. Lobster pot Sticks and Crab Cake Appetizers were delicious and flavorful. We both had the Paella which was good and on the moist side which I prefer. Good portion of fish, mussels, clams, chicken pieces with skin on,ands calamari; the dish was not overly spicy from the chorizo. The Boston Cream Pie was like a layer cake, excellent, highly recommend , the brownie topped with ice cream and fudge sauce was scrumptiously fudgy . A very memorable experience.

Too young a scene for us old timers. Food and service was great. Just to crowded and noisy for us
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
I went on a Monday night with 5 family members (2 children-4 adults). It was restaurant week so there was a 4 course meal added to the menu, which was nice to sample various items on the menu. Between all adults there was a wide range of seafood on the table and not one complaint. Everything was cooked to perfection & portions were plentiful. I would definitely recommend Summer Shack to anyone going to Boston.

Restaurant week lunch
My friend and I chose the Summer Shack for lunch during Restaurant Week because the choices were the most appealing to us. I had the fried calamari, crab cake sandwich, and cheesecake. They were all very good. My firend had the gaspacho, shrimp po boy, and key lime pie. Although she enjoyed the entree and dessert, she didn't care for the gaspacho. She said it was bland and a little bit on the grainy side. It wasn't what she expected.
On the whole, the food and service were very good. I liked the selection of music as well. Quite a few songs from the '80's which is my favorite decade for music.

Great spot. I've eaten here
Great spot. I've eaten here before and this visit was bit off. Food fantastic (although a tiny bit pricey)as always. But service was lackadaisical and spotty, forgot one of our appetizers and periods of in attention. But I would still recommend . The pan roasted lobster is phenomenal .

Fantastic Pan Seared Lobster
The restaurant was dead on a Monday night at 6:30 which made me suspicious. Summer Shack was clean and had a nice vibe although the staff was not overly friendly but certainly not rude. Nothing to complain about but noting note worthy as well.
What is worth writing about is the pan seared lobster. As a life long Southern California resident, I have been eating lobster for about 40 years now and this was excellent! A nice diversion from steamed lobster and drawn butter but not too far off the path that the sauce made the natural lobster taste was overwhelming. I would go back again just for this lobster.
The lobster wonton's were also excellent.

Ya Gotta Have The Lobsta
Fun restaurant for an evening lobster (or other seafoods) at a reasonable price. Tables covered by brown paper for ease of splashing your meal with lobster crackers. Quick service. Light, touristy ambiance. Corn on the cob not as remarkable as the lobster.

Summer Shack is the place to go!
Great dinner at Summer Shack! Don't miss the lobster potstickers - they are delicious. We had the pan roasted lobster and the crab legs and everything was amazing! Service was phenomenal - can't wait to go back!

I was in Boston for only a few days and Summer Shack was near my hotel. I love lobster so of course tried it at several restaurants. At Summer Shack I ordered a 2lb wood-grilled lobster (just over $50 the day I was there). It was fantastic - best I've had in Boston or anywhere else for that matter. It was cooked melt-in-your-mount perfectly. The tail was split and stuffed with a decent stuffing. The claws were huge and oh so good. It was served with corn on the cob, which was also cooked nicely. For dessert I had the bananas foster, which was also very good.

Worth the Wait
We had been to the Cambridge Summer Shack many times, expected good fish and circus-tent ambience. But despite the less-than-appealing neighborhood and unassuming sidewalk entrance, the interior is actually pretty cool, really well laid out. The food was quite good -- my grilled salmon and her crab cakes were both pretty darn good. There was a delay in the kitchen on this Saturday night which had some other diners registering complaints -- but we were in no rush. Yeah, it took too long, and we never did get any bread (despite being promised it was was on its way, twice), but we'll give the place a break and try again.

Casual and good dinner
We enjoyed our dinner at summer shack. We met our son and his roommates. All enjoyed the experience. The boys said the portions were small, but all said the food was good. The lobster pot stickers were terrific.

Fabulous Dinner with Friends
Food was TERRIFIC. Almost everyone ordered a different meal, and all raved about the food. Service was perfect, and it was our waiter's first night! The oysters were delicious. It really couldn't have been better! Highly recommend Summer Shack!
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Summer Shack was a fun place to eat and drink.
The only negative was that we had the steamers and they were quite sandy....dipping them in the clam juice....dipping them in the butter....not dipping them in anything....it really didn't matter, we couldn't get the sand off.
Other than that we all had a good time.

Great as Usual
A short cab ride from Fenway before the second world series game... Summer Shack was great as usual. Took a little longer to get a her..they ran out of glasses? Had the Portugese stew special..spicy and terrific.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had the pan roasted lobster...I cannot say enough about the preparation. It was decadent, messy, and delicious! There was a nice pinot noir on their wine list which made for a fine pairing with my lobster. The corn on the cob was simple and delicious as well. Great place as far as theme too...I was afraid it would be too touristy and over the top...instead it was just vibrant and fun!
10/26/2013 5:00:00 PM
Hard to beat for fresh seafood listed on the blackboard. Great fresh bluefish, Wish mackerel would have appeared. Choice of oysters on the half-shell was outstanding. Well-made cocktails, good wine list, very good draught beer list.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
Delicious and affordable
I got their "be good to yourself special", which is a great gluten free special. I had the bluefish and it was deliciously spicy.

At the fringe of the dining
At the fringe of the dining "desert" a.k.a. the Symphony Hall district, this outpost of Jasper's chain offers good variety, interesting preparations, and decent value. Noise level makes conversation a challenge, but for some that's what they ordered. One of the minority of restos to make the effort to print their specials.

From the outside looks like
From the outside looks like it could be a dive
but once inside the place has a nice appearance.
By no means fancy, but has a comfortable feel.
Reminds me an outdoor beach area seafood restaurant.
Service is attentive but not over-bearing.
Food is very good and prices are reasonable.
For a casual dinner it is an excellent choice.
