Food not Fantastic
We had a nice time, and our server, Patrick was excellent! The food was less than amazing. The fish in the fish and chips was a little over cooked and the pieces were very small for the price (especially when compared to The Pub at The Green in Dayton). The burgers were nothing special. The mushroom ravioli looked like cheddar cheese soup and the pieces of fresh safe on the top were too big and very overwhelming. This place is great for a drink, whether you want some good craft beer or any scotch or whiskey you can think ok. But, done somewhere else.

mussels were tasty; great broth served with french bread for soaking up the juices. fish and duck fat chips good- fish crisp not oily but fries were a bit soggy. large group behind us made conversation difficult but they were having a good time!

Very good. Friendly and knowledgabl
Very good. Friendly and knowledgable wait staff. Unusual to have a waiter know single malts as well as ours did. The food was good. Nice change offering two sizes of fish and chips. Off to run a 10K to work off the duck fat fries.

Good Food, Odd Menu Changes
I cannot help but wonder at the changes to the menu. For a Scottish/British Isles-style pub, the food seems to be very Americanized and chain-like. Not to mention that it comes to you on a sheet of paper looking like a cheap diner placemat while the rest of the tableware and the restaurant itself is all oakwood and leather. Very odd choice for an upgrade.
That said, you cannot ignore the food, which is consistently good, no matter the menu. My hope is Nicholson's will come back to itself soon.

This is one of our favorite
This is one of our favorite spots for dinner after a play at the Aronoff. Good food, pleasant atmoshere and generally good service. We really enjoy the new menu.

We had a great dinner before
We had a great dinner before a show at the Aronoff Center, right across the street. Service was excellent. We were seated right away (had a reservation) and had excellent service.

Food was very good, menu is
Food was very good, menu is limited. Great look to the bar and eating areas. Service and attention superb. Our waiter checked back with us frequently and was very friendly. Manager also stopped by to see if we needed anything.

good service at the bar and

We've eaten there many times before and had awesome service. I think a large party may have impacted the service this time.

The two of came for food prior to going to the play across the street. Service was great. Food was totally delicious and filling. It was served hot, my iced tea was refilled when it was at the half way level. The duck fat Fries were superb. Lobster-crab-maac-cheese was scrumptious. Ambiance was appealing.

Great pub in downtown Cincinnati
We were traveling through the area to visit family in Ohio, and decided to try out Nicholson's. It was a holiday weekend and there was a major event going on nearby, so I suspect it was much more quiet than usual. We enjoyed our lunch - they have lots of great beers on tap. We sat in a nice booth inside - lots of real wood and brass. A classic decor with great ambiance. We will definitely keep it on our list for future visits.

I had the filet mignon and it was the best steak I have had in I don't know when. BUT, the duck fat fries are to die for. They are superb. No need to stick them in the aioli. They are fabulous just as they are. The food was seasoned through so there was no need to salt anything. It was outstanding.

Convenient dining before a show.
We were going to see Seinfeld right across the street. It was an early show so we ate early. They were very accommodating. We were out in plenty of time to get to the show. a very nice dining experience. It is much quieter in the rear dining rooms than in the bar area.

Cincinnati pub dining
We dined here on a rainy Saturday for lunch. I had a sandwich and my wife had fish and chips. This was followed by a pot-de-crème. The service was great, food quality was good, and the dessert was particularly fine. We found the staff to be very friendly. The space is large and nicely appointed. It was quite for us, but that was likely due to the weather. No complaints at all and we'd recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing lunch in the area.

Located in downtown Cincinatti, this place was very quiet and uncrowded. Cconsequently, our server was very attentive. We got the special and were very pleased with quality of the food. Can highly recoommend the lobster mac & cheese. For casual dinning, this is a great place.

Great Pick for a Bachelor Party
Food was fantastic. Beer, Wine, and Scotch list was extensive. Fast and friendly service. Scottish pub ambiance was dead-on and a fun experience.

Great food, atmosphere and service!
An overall terrific lunch with a client. Energetic but noise level with low enough that we could discuss business.

Great evening out with friends
We had a wonderful meal at a quiet table with another couple in the alley between two buildings. Their duck fat fries are fantastic! I especially liked the British theme since I spent a year in England. Their beer selection is very extensive. Server was very knowledgeable. Even the men wear kilts!
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great scotch selection!
Very good whiskey list! And you can order 3 whiskey tasting for the price of 18 $. Though it diesnt include 18yo and up scotches, there is still a great list to choose from. Definitely going again soon!

I have been to Nicholson's
I have been to Nicholson's numerous times. We ate there since we were attending a show at the Aranoff Center. Nicholson's is a great place to eat - food is always good and it's a nice casual environment.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We made reservations at Nicholson's before seeing a show at the Aronoff. The front of the restaurant is a huge bar, but don't be fooled, the building runs back almost a full city block. We had a table in the back and the noise from the bar area didn't bother us at all. The food was amazing! I had the fried chicken with Gouda mac and cheese. Our service was a little slow, but they were very busy and it didn't bother us at all since we had an incredible waiter. The only complaint I have is that I left too full. If you're in the area or seeing a show at the Aronoff, this is a great restaurant and bar choice that won't blow the budget.

Dinner and a Show
We ate at Nicholson's for the first time before the Bill Maher show at the Aronoff in celebration of my wife's birthday.
A very nice touch was the Welcoming Card found at our table written by Erin Fowler. The server was attentive, the staff friendly. Appetizers and meals were very good and of course the beer was excellent! We had the service and treatment that leaves you feeling like you want to come back. Good job to the staff! Felt welcome from the time we hit the door until we left. Looking forward to coming back soon.

dinner looked good...
good appetizers but we were there for an hour before our salads came, and after being done with those for a while we had to ask about entrees. server knew it was taking a long time but didn't acknowledge. when we found out our food had not been started, we asked to check out since we were heading to an event which they were kind and understanding. good food, but bad night for service from the kitchen.

super place for dinner before
super place for dinner before the theater at Aronoff--they are used to the schedule--the food is good and the atmosphere enjoyable . Of course it couldn't be more handy to eat, cross the street (at the new crosswalk the city put in) and go into the theater, go to your seat and see the show. We have been going to Nicholson's for several years because of these things. We wouldn't be going if the food wasn't good--had an amazing Pot de Creme.

We dined at Nicholson’s Tavern for a birthday dinner on Saturday night. Our reservation was perfect even though we were early.
Our server Rylan could not have been any better. He made the evening fun (he even sang Happy Birthday to me). He was very busy but it did not slow him down. He knew the menu and the extensive drink list.
Our only complaint was that the music was loud and not in Theme at all. It was great for the drinking crowd that arrived around 9, but for those of us dining at 7 it would have been nice to have the music as b background and a Scottish song or two would have been nice to go with the atmosphere.

We've been to Nicholson's
We've been to Nicholson's many times before, but this was the best meal so far in terms of food preparation and the attentive, helpful service of our waiter, Caden.

Thanks for the special assistance!
Without going into detail, we had a need for some special and unusual help and consideration. There was no hesitation in finding a solution that was above and beyond expectations. This is my idea of an operation that is clearly putting the customer first.

Dining At Nicholson's
The food was as good as it always is. We had a variety of food, including Pork Chops, soup , fish and chicken. Everything was above average. The service was GREAT. The server was talkative, informative and very pleasant. I would request him every time. The atmosphere is relaxed and the décor is above average. I would recommend to anyone after or before a Broadway show . Or just for drinks.

Nice way to start an evening!
We choose to have dinner at Nicholson's Pub as it was convenient to the Aronoff. We made reservations since we figured it would be busy the night of the Harry Connick Jr. concert. We had several appetizers as well as dinner. Our group also enjoyed a few glasses of wine. Everyone enjoyed their food especially the squash soup and the lobster macaroni and cheese!

Old world feel with modern cuisine
Whether you need a nice meal before the theatre, or want to celebrate a special event, or want a happy hour with great selections, Nicholson's is the place to go. The spacious bar area attracts a fascinating crowd, and yet the restaurant is so deep that you can have an intimate meal while happy hour is in full swing. Their menu has all the traditional British pub food with some delightful innovations and surprises as well. The service is always outstanding.

Before the Ballet
We went to Nicholson's before a performance of Swan Lake. The service was very great and the drinks and food were good. The atmosphere was festive and it put us all in a great mood prior to the performance. Well done!

We visited on a weeknight
We visited on a weeknight but before a performance at the Aranoff. We had excellent service and were never rushed. We were seated on what I consider the more intimate fireplace room though it was a bit warm yet for a fire. If you are a Scotch lover, they have a fantastic variety to choose from. I had the salmon which I know is ubiquitous but was excellent. We have been here a few times and have noticed that they have changed the menu to match the seasonal tastes and flavors but have still retained some of the meals that have a UK flair.

We we're seated and forgotten.
We we're seated and forgotten. However, they quickly made up for this and it was a great night. Awesome beer selection! Great food, but on the fatty side. All and all a nice place to eat before a show at the Arronoff.

Delicious and convenient
We dined at Nicholson's prior to a performance at the Aronoff. The staff was very cognizant of the timing for getting across the street to the theater. Dishes were served quickly and perfectly prepared so we were able to dine at leisure including dessert. The smoked Gouda Mac and cheese with lobster was very good, salmon dish prepared expertly , the chocolate pots d'creme was decadent plus and the sticky toffee pudding took me back to London.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
We went there after a play and the service was fast, the food was great and we will be going back!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our grandchildren, 8 and 11 years, enjoyed the food and the ambience of Nicholson's. It was a great place to eat lunch before going to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical". It made our adventure to the theatre more special!!! Thanks, Nicholson's!
