I visited Scottsdale for the first time from Brooklyn, NY and was so impressed by the creative menu at Cowboy Ciao. I tried the mushroom pan fry, the chicken fried trout and the salmon and all were delicious!

The stetson chopped salad was delicious. The server recommended it and it exceeded my expectations. I wanted to lick the plate clean. Pastrami style short ribs was also tasty and something you can't get anywhere else. We will definitely go back because we enjoyed it so much.

Great food per usual, service off
The service was quite off... had reservations and still had to wait, waitress maybe asked us once if we needed anything, avoided us like the plague, then we got the wrong table's bill, then the split check was messed up.

Mac and Cheese Delight
Went there for my wife's 50th B-day based on reviews and 4 1/2 star rating. My only question after the evening was "why not 5 stars??". It was great food, and Rob was a fantastic waiter. Mac and Cheese for an appetizer was great: Captain Crunch encrusted shrimp and chorizo in a great cheddar cheeze. Entres were excellent and an endless wine list. Will go back again and take friends.

enjoyable year round
We've usually eaten at Cowboy Ciao's in high season. A summer visit found us hungry for the family chopped salad. Service was exceptional. Our waiter made suggestions which we appreciated. We enjoyed small plates and each item was excellent, innovative and tasted great.
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Can't get enough of that salad.
I have yet to have a waiter that did not go over the top in service. They are super.
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
A personal favorite that we save for special occasions. Last visit was for 25th Birthday of our triplets. Great ffod, outstanding service, and a mind boggling wine list. A real Scottsdale treasure.

A memorable meal
My husband and I came in from out of town (Seattle). We found this highly rated restaurant on our internet search, it did not dissappoint! Our server guided us through the menu and helped us choose dishes we were likely to enjoy. We ordered the Puerco Lento and the pastrami-style short ribs (something I would never have considered). Both were amazing! The ribs were fall-off-the bone tender and seasoned to perfection. After reading the reviews I really wanted the mushroom dish. We thought it was a bit bland and underwhelming--probably because we like things spicy and flavorful. You may love it if you like your food on the milder side. Oh, let's not forget the dessert--Peanut Butter Nanaimo, AMAZING!

Cowboy Ciao is where I always
Cowboy Ciao is where I always take out of town guests, including those who have visited on previous trips. It never disappoints. Interesting atmosphere, very knowledgeable waitstaff, huge wine list, unique menu. One of only a few non-chain restaurants of its quality (and philosophy) in Phoenix.

The food was delicious and Alex was the perfect, pleasant and knowlegable host.

Best salad of my life
The Stetson chopped salad is the best salad I have ever had in my life! Worth going just for that!!
7/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth the move!
I went to Cowboy Ciao to celebrate my third anniversary of moving to AZ. It's my favorite restaurant and never fails to deliver. I tried some new things on the menu which were very good. The Stetson Salad is a must. I think it should be mandatory with every meal in case you're new to the restaurant and just won't know what you're missing if you don't order! Love to find any excuse to go to Cowboy Ciao and it's great that it's only a 15-20 minute drive away now!
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I will keep this brief. Been to Ciao's many times before, and this visit met my expectations. Great food/venue. As expected.
7/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
I like this spot
Great food, interesting wine list and competent waitstaff. No attitude here. Visited in the off-season, heat of the summer. Do not miss the wild mushrooms, available as entree or side dish. I will be back

Epic dining experience
We had a a wonderful dinner Saturday night. The wine, chopped salad, scallops, and short ribs are all perfectly delicious.
Our waitress was beautiful and professional.

Loved Cowboy Ciao!!
We absolutely loved everything about Cowboy Ciao and will definitely return next time we're in the Phoenix area. The service, from the moment we walked in, was exceptional throughout the evening. The selections on the menu were intriguing and it was fun to try to decide what to have. The wine list was overwhelming, but our waiter quickly helped us find something that suited our taste perfectly. My wife had the Berkshire Belly & Waffles and even though it's a starter it was more than enough for her meal; the different tastes made for a delicious meal. I had the Pastrami-Style Smoked Short Ribs and they were extremely tender and fall-off-the-bone. We followed with the Peanut Butter Nanaimo for dessert and it was very tasty as well.

Cowboy Ciao - a MUST visit
We were looking for a wine friendly, non-stuffy, local Foodie restaurant. Everything was fabulous-from needing to adjust our reservation time, great easy parking, super welcome and WOW dinner was great. Our server was knowledgable and un-intrusive. The steak was cooked to perfection, the burratta cheese salad perfect, carpaccio excellent but the star was the duck confit rellenno!
Next door at their sister speakeasy bar Kazimarz which was the highlight of our visit. The band was fun and great without being too loud. The BIGEST wine list I have ever seen with truly fun commentary. Friendly staff and an all around perfect night. We have already marked Cowboy Ciao in the GPS for the next visit!
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was worth the wait, our server was a bit slow and overwhelmed, but for around 80 guests what can you expect? And the food was absolutely divine! My girlfriend and I didn't realize food could taste so incredibly!
Can't say ciao to Cowboy Ciao!
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Worth a visit
First time at the "Ciao". Good food, good service, a wine list / selection second to none. Sunday night was nice and quiet. Service was very good.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, good service. Very interesting appetizers--pork belly waffles were a hit. One of my favorites in PHX/Scottsdale area.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
A not to be missed place!
Second trip back to Scottsdale and had to have it again! Glad the quality of our meal was just as outstanding and memorable as our first time here! Great selection of atypical type of dishes! Everything was cooked and served perfectly! Beef short ribs were amazing as well as the pork! Would definitely go back again!
8/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great service. Selection is small-ish, but outstanding. several unique offerings -- mushroom stir fry, chopped salad, are classics
and the steak and seafood dishes were magnificent. Very nice. Upscale food and service in a low-key surrounding with great ambience. Went for anniversary. Great choice. everybody should give it a try!
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Like Waylon Jennings singing it does not get much better than that.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pricey, but good
Really enjoyed the food (except for the duck fat ice cream which was horrible). Service was very good and it was not too bad until a large group came in and the noise level made it hard to talk. Four of us had a entre each, 7 total drinks, one salad and one desert - I thought $360 (includes tip) was a little over priced for the meal
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love Cowboy Ciao
Incrfedible wine list. Too many MUST TRY items on this menu to list them all. The Stetson Salad is incredible. Also had the Mac 'n Cheese and the brined short ribs. Go Here!
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pan Fry Mushroom
If you love mushrooms order the pan fry mushrooms :)))))))))))))))))))
There chopped salad is also very good. Two staples that have been on their menu for years.

Food was absolutely awesome.
Food was absolutely awesome. Chopped salad is fantastic and the pork chop was exquisite. Wine list is of epic size, recommend studying it before you so you know what to ask for. Wine waiter was very knowledgeable as well.
9/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food but a very price lunch even without drinks. Since far from our house probably won't make the drive too often because of the price factor.
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Huge wine list great but...
If one is a wine connoisseur, the 15 + pages of single spaced offerings on 8 x 10 paper would make great reading. However if you have come for a great meal with friends, you do not want to spend a lot of time choosing a wine. I suggest that a shorter list of various wines by the bottle be presented for the casual diner with the premium/more costly wines made available for those interested. Fleming's and other fine restaurants do this. They also ensure that servers are well informed with wine options and are equipped with suggestions.
Additionally, the wine-by-the-glass list did not have a Pinot Grigio choice so I ended up purchasing a complete bottle for my one guest that wanted that white wine.

Food & Service were great
Our steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered and the entire meal was very tasty. Our server provided excellent and friendly service.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
My girlfriend and I were blown away by how good the food was at Cowboy ciao. It was by far our best meal while visiting Arizona. From the salad to the scallops to the blue cheese stuffed olives there wasn’t anything that we didn’t enjoy. I’d come back to AZ just to eat there!
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was amazing! The service was top notch. The restaurant itself is beautiful, my dinner date and I were entertained during our (very reasonable) wait for our meal by observing various elements of the wonderful décor. The round dining area with floor to ceiling windows in Old Scottsdale also made for a great view.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Restaurant week at Cowboy Caio
Portions were small but tasty except for the mixed green salad. Very little dressing or flavor. Felt like I was eating a handful of dry leaves. Didn't finish, left for server to clear. She never asked if there was something wrong with it just moved us on to our next course. Might go back but probably not.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and service.
Excellent food and service. We will going back soon

I'm from Los Angeles and visit
I'm from Los Angeles and visit Scottsdale a couple of times a year. No trip to Scottsdale would be complete without at least one visit to Ciao. It's on my top 5 list of favorite restaurants in any city.

Surprised by their Sunday
Surprised by their Sunday brunch. Amazing food, and very professional wait-staff. Cowboy Ciao will become a regular weekend stop. Very well done!

Great place for lunch
The restaurant was recommended by a friend in St. Louis. Great chopped salad as she said. Split the reuben sandwich, which was a little bit spicy (just enough spicy). Very extensive wine list, by the bottle and by the glass. Highly recommend.
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Duck confit rellenos were THE BEST ever. The Testosterone beef salad was terrific (even though I almost didn't order it because of the name), the beef on the salad was expertly marinated with a superb choice of dressing and salad greens. Highly recommend.

Excellent Service and Amazing Food
I went here with a group of co-workers for dinner an the food was excellent. The server was very personable, made recommendations and the food was amazing. EVERYTHING was great! Hands down one of the best restaurants in Phoenix,
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, great taste but...
I ordered the duck confit. While this was outstanding, I was disapointed to see that the duck was part of a complex mixture of vegetables and herbs and tastes. Duck confit has a particular taste that I love and it was smothered by the other flavours of the dish. This is not to say that it was not good.It was great and it contained cilantro in quantity an herb I love. I suggest, if this gets to the chef, to replace the duck by barbequed pork that would complement well the rest of the dish. For my part I like duck confit on its own.

First time diner there. We
First time diner there. We pretty much went off the recommendations of our waiter and we were not disappointed. Food was fantastic and seeing as how it was a first date, we never felt rushed. Server was able to describe the food in a great manner and was able to recommend a good bottle of wine that fit our desire. I work at a fine dining steak house and the wine list was crazy here! Beautiful selection for any and everyone. I wasn't really sure how to even attack the multitude of selections and finally left it up to him. Overall, had a great time, great food and service, and would love to go back. Thanks for a great evening.

Great wine list!
Had a wonderful dinner here. The food was great and so were the wine selections. Would definitely recommend trying this place.

Nice place - GREAT food
I'm a Californian, where restaurants really compete. It's not the same in Scottsdale, although I know it appears that way to the locals. I chose this restaurant to meet a friend based on Yelp reviews. The food was truly excellent - I had a Cobb salad that was original and tasty, and my friend had a simple chicken quesadilla, which was also very well prepared. The decor is not to my taste and perhaps because we were a little ahead of the lunch rush, it was a bit odd and lacking in warmth and ambience. But our wait staff was very good and the prices were quite fair for the quality we were given.

We had a very enjoyabe time
We had a very enjoyabe time at this restaurant. Mark was an outstanding waiter. Will go back when we are in Scottsdale

Worth the trip
Just my second time in the greater Phoenix area for business, and I made a point to drive from Tempe to Scottsdale just to come back to Cowboy Ciao for dinner. The food is excellent, and I especially love the Stetson Chopped Salad. While they are noted for their wine list, I am more of a beer guy and I found the list of craft beers to be similarly well-curated, albeit a good deal shorter than the extensive wine list.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great restaurant, excellent service. Kids menu (lacking), but they were able to wrangle up some
Food fit for kids

A real treat. Creative dishes and fun wine flights. A really nice experience.

Always Top Notch
We haven't been here in a while so it was nice to see the food & service are still consistently above average, we will return again soon!
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Waiter was great, and very accommodating to our daughter's desire for something "cheesy with chicken". The rest of us had the beef short ribs with potatoes and brussel sprouts, and the filet - and would recommend both. Just visiting Scottsdale, but would go back if ever in the area.
11/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
A consistant fun creative place
They continue to serve some of their all time favorites - the Stetson Chopped Salad, which btw, held up for leftovers just fine. This time I tried the short ribs and they were out of this world. Great service. A true Scottsdale find.
