Go for the small plates so you can taste more of the interesting flavors! My fiance especially enjoyed the poached pear dessert with brown sugar crumble and pine needles ice cream as a stand-out favorite, despite being too full... I am still remembering the octopus and goose pasta!

The food was great and deliciously
The food was great and deliciously innovative. The staff seemed a little out to lunch in terms of getting distracted while we were ordering—and then being too distracted to notice us when we were trying to get the check. Neverthless it was a great dinner and we're excited to return.

Louro Keeps Getting Better
Louro was great when it opened in December, but it keeps improving. Chef Dave Santos's Monday night special dinners are always fantastic adventures, and a great bargain as well. I love the combination of fine food in an informal, warm setting.

Very attentive and thoughtful service helped us meander through a complex and inventive menu. Our server clearly understood the uniqueness of each dish and helped match our palettes and preferences to the offerings on the menu. All four of us experimented with different dishes, large and small. The structure of the menu was excellent, offering choices of little tastes and progressively more ample courses. One cautionary note, if you are not very comfortable with spicy foods, have the server help you understand which are likely to be hotter. The wine menu has some lovely wines. We chose an Austrian one and were quite pleased. All in all, a very pleasant experience , and a unique addition to our neighborhood.

A+ Dining Experience
Louro provides 4 star food at moderate prices. Service is friendly and attentive, the wine list is nice and the food is outstanding. Chef Santos is inventive and a true culinary artist.

Greenwich village master
We went on a sunday evening at 600 pm before the rush. The decor was rustic. A perfect match for the food. The menu was straightforwrd and well balanced. Some wonderful appetizers. Some delicious small plates. And a selection of well chosen main entrees. Our strategy was to graze and share the apps and small plates. That was fun. The entrees more also a delight. The menu changes seasonally so we wont make any suggestions. Try Louro. Its an adventure thst wont dissappoint.

Inventive, innovative, friendly, unpretentious. except for the fake book spines that adorn the wall--bad taste there and hard to figure why such a choice was made. However, i didn't spend much time looking at the walls. We love the monday night menus twists, with the head chef one night and a guest chef from South Carolina another. Bring you own alcohol on Mondays, though they were happy to recommend wines that fit the menu.

This restaurant serves some of the best food you will eat in Manhattan. Such amazing flavors and just the right balance. If you love great food you will love this place.

Great inspiring food
We went for a dinner on a Tuesday night and had a great gastronimic experience. The Octopus bolognese, piri piri shrimp, Halibut in a smoky sauce and the steak were phenomenal. The broccoli in textures defined "salad" and was hot, warm and cold which was really satisfying. A really cool new dish noone else does.
The room is a bit simple but if you are a real foodie youll love it. The waiter recommended a Pinot that was excellent. H?
Also great value for the level of cooking. Try it!

will be back!!
Recommended to us by our sister, this place is awesome. Delicious, reasonable food. Def try the octopus bolognese and chicken. They had free tapas from 530-730, not sure if that was just the day we went or all the time. Will certainly be back!

Not to be missed!
While this restaurant has great ambiance and is located in a fabulous location in the West Village, the food is what is truly unbelievable. I consider myself a foodie and I have eaten at the best restaurants in NYC and these dishses are some of the best I have ever had. Every dish is creative and delicious - I experienced flavors that blew me away. There also are incredible cocktails and a great bar scene. I feel like Louro is still a hidden gem and everyone who loves good food and drinks must take advantage!!

Well executed food, great cocktails
Food was very consistently good, from the starts to entrees to dessert, as well as the cocktail we had - very solid. Service was friendly and unpretentious, atmosphere warm yet hip, really have no complaints.
6/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our fourth time here, but the first dining off the regular menu (our other three visits were for the monday night themed evenings). Aged rib-eye for two was divine, as was the skate salad with papaya.
Only trouble was the espresso, which tasted like a normal cup of black (bitter) coffee, thin. And a 15 minute wait for dessert. i believe the kitchen ground to a halt with a visit from the Dept of Health (we were told; unfortunate). But this is a great restaurant!

Realizing restaurants tend to come and go in the Village, we were skeptical but were absolutely wonderfully surprised. The food choices are varied and creative - from appetizers to desserts, a real culinary adventure. They also offer a happy hour which includes tapas, so we'll be back soon to try that too. We are certainly hoping Louro's is here to stay!

Fine dining experience uncovered
This is a foodies bargain anywhere in the US . The tasting menu is outstanding - and I could not cook for the price. New place with David Santos heading the Kitchen - (Bouley, Per Se and that's what you get for an absurd $65.00?) Don't wait long. On first glance not the place for a foodie tasting menu but after 2 offerings the noise and cafe ambience disappear and you focus on catching your breath between courses. Writer does about 30 tasting menus a year and this one is the best for the value and preparation as well as uniqueness. Very much on the edge but always well prepared and presented. This is not someone learning his trade but a very seasoned pro.

We really enjoyed our meal
We really enjoyed our meal at Louro. One of the best we've had anywhere this year. Excellent, creative (but not creative-for-the-sake-of-it) dishes. Fun rather than stuffy. Friendly. Confident but not pretentious or taking itself too seriously. The "tasting menu" was more of a banquet for two, with portions that would have seemed too large if the food hadn't been so moreish. We'll be back like a shot when we next visit NYC.
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
it was delicious and the service was really nice -- attentive and friendly. The menu is very creative and different. The ambiance is lovely, but it is definitely noisy!! But, I would go back - the food was that good.

Louro is blessed with a wonderfully creative chef who turns out superb, intensely flavorful dishes. There
are small plates, larger plates and enter sized dishes. The prices are fair and Louro has a well chosen
well priced wine list.

Food was brilliant, although the suckling pig was a little rich for me. However, the server we had was amazing. She was a gem, and I wish I had gotten her name!

Top dining experience!
The food was amazing! And the service could not have been any better. We were "mad at the chef because we had to eat every bite."
Our server was friendly, funny, and made the evening truly wonderful.
I look forward to eating at Louro again!

We had a birthday dinner for a party 6. The staff gave us the wonderful table in the back, which provided a more intimate setting with it's book case background and chandelier overhead. The chef's tasting menu was very well presented with various flavors. Although it noted 5 courses, it turned out to be about 8; overall exceptionally well balanced meal at a very great price. The staff were very attentive, timed each meal perfectly, and explained each course thoughtfully. The restaurant decor is warm and inviting, with nice lighting, not too loud in volume. The restaurant also serves as a good date night for couples, either at the tables or bar up front. We will most certainly go back again.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Have been several times and love it! Whether for just cocktails happy hour (which includes some tapas!) or a complete dinner, Louro's does not disappoint. Staff are appropriately friendly and the food is consistently prepared. The flavors are adventurous and never overwhelming. It's a great Village discovery.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Ate here the other day with a good friend and LOVED it! The food was sophisticated without being overly precious, perfectly prepared and really good. The space is warm and comforting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back especially for future supper club evenings.

It just feels good in Louro
The food is thoughtfully prepared and knocks your socks off -- portuguese butter is not to be missed...seafood, pork, pasta....you name it -- it's special and delicious - -- and the proprietor, dave santos, is so friendly , you'll wanna have him over for dinner!
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Absolutely delicious food
An extremely satisfying meal. Two of us shared the piri-piri shrimp, kibbeh goat felafel, bone marrow, and pork and clams, with the corn pain perdu for dessert. The shrimp were a blast of spice and flavor, shockingly (and blissfully) spicy in a way that I never expect to get in a high-end restaurant. The bone marrow was delicious also, and my absolute favorite was the pork and clams--the broth was just magical, and we sopped up every scrap with an extra basket of bread. The corn pain perdu was surprisingly light and tasty despite its apparent density.
Noise level was lively but not conversation-inhibiting; the place was about 2/3 full on a Wednesday night between 7-9.
This place is definitely a keeper, well worth revisiting.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is definitely not your
This is definitely not your typical restaurant. Every dish was delicious not in just the usual tasty way. There were flavor and texture combinations that I have not experienced before (except at another dinner prepared by chef Dave Santos). I wish I could better describe why I enjoyed this meal so much but the best thing is for you to experience it for yourself. I'm counting the days until I have a chance to go back to Louro.

Stands up tall
Louro stands up tall amidst many solid restaurants in the area. Pretty restaurant on the inside, beautiful bar area. The food is creative and delicious, and the menu is unique -- the small plates and bites standout in particular. I would absolutely return and would recommend.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Oh what a night!
we asked a friend where he likes to eat in the city. He said Louro's!
He went on to tell us about the theme dinners and the outstanding food.
We went, we ate, we'll be back!
The service was more that attentive and knowledgeable.
If I never eat another dessert, I will be happy it was at Louro's.

Food was superb, as was the drink list. The lobster tortellini is a must have. Definitely come here.

Good restaurant with friendly service. The menu was a bit of a mixed bag of flavours and ingredients.

West Village treat
Great inventive food in a comfortable setting, excellent service, really nice place. Don't miss the seafood fritters and lobster tortellini, all the seafood dishes were especially good. Unusual flavor pairings were delicious: roasted carrots with miso, skate with a light curry broth, lots of pleasant surprises, all very refined. Nice wine list too. Highly recommended.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
good small plates
We had starters which were all very interesting. Some were very spicy which the server informed us. If you want to try something different and are with people who share this is a great place .

Unique and delicious flavors
Unique and delicious flavors along with friendly and accommodating staff make this a place I will sure to be sure to visit again.

A great night in the Village
The cuisine was excellent, better than I had in Portugal. The food was prepared with great imagination. The service was attentive and competent The noise level was low at the beginning of the meal. As the room filled (and it was completely full on a midweek night) conversation became more difficult. The staff , from the maitre'd to the waiters, were all kind and competent.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had the seafood fritters and the monk fish. Finished with dessert. The portion sizes are perfect (exactly what they should be not enormous) which allows you to have an appetizer and dessert.
Ambiance is good too. Great energy and service was fantastic.

Chef Dave Santos is a genius
He buys great ingredients, and treats them with respect. But he also knows that a great dish requires more than just that. He and his staff (bar included) understand that everything has to balance: the flavors, the textures, the colors. Examples: steelhead trout has glass-crisp skin, melting soft bright pink flesh, and a curry broth that is just spicy enough without overpowering the delicate fish. The pumpkin salad has sharp, sweet, and salty flavors, and is lovely to look at. Perfectly rare seared venison is enhanced by tart-sweet-smoky grapes. Which is all to say that whatever you order, you won't lose interest after a few bites.
Be aware, though: Louro can get very loud when full.

perfect evening in the West Village
Decided to search on my phone for a new spot to try while in the West Village and based on the reviews and menu picked Louro to meet my husband for a child-free date night. Got there early and decided to have a drink at the bar while I waited for the hubs. DELICIOUS cocktail called ELI CASH, a frothy tequila and rhubarb concoction, the first of 3 I would have that evening. They brought "bar snacks" more of the amuse bouche variety, yum! At dinner, we especially enjoyed the pumpkin salad, Kimchi Fried Rice, Peekytoe crab and peach umeboshi dessert. Could have done without the prawns though, sauce tasted a little like what I could only describe as wet dog. The slaw that came with it was very good though. Our server was lovely as well!

Great random find
Was looking for a good brunch spot in the neighborhood when this came across our radar. Delicious food, impeccable service, wonderful experience.

From start to finish, the evening at Louro was perfect. Great drinks, great food and great service.

We just had another delicious
We just had another delicious meal and tried some new items that came out this season. The goat felafel was terrific as was the risotto with truffle. Menu staple octopus bolognese was a winner like always. The monkfish with calamari and chorizo ragu was a surprisingly great pairing. Service was good even though the place was hopping. We keep our eye out as you never know who you'll see there. During recent visits we saw Eric Church and his wife dining and another time Robert Trujillo (Metallica) and his wife. Great food, fun place.

Amazing Food !!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mouth is watering just thinking of the smoked tomato soup and the octopus bolognese.
Great restaurant, great vibe and the food is full of flavors!
Best (by far) Restaurant in the West Village.

Six of us had dinner there
Six of us had dinner there on a recent Saturday night. All I can say is can't wait to go back. Everything we ordered was really wonderful; looked great on the plates and tased outstanding. Attentive friendly service and a fun atmosphere. Well done Louro!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wonderful restaurant. In addition to the a la carte menu, several chef's tasting dinners were offered, including a pasta series. Tagliatelle with uni, etc.
Goat liver slice with crispy onions, superb risotto with several slices (not flakes) of truffles, wonderful fig & mushroom dish. More conventional choices included monkfish. A duck sausage + kim chee rice dish with incredible flavors. Piri piri shrimp. The kitchen team was performing at a very high level.
People next to us had the ribeye for two, dusted with spices, wonderful fragrance.
Excellent service, attentive staff

3 courses at Louro
The wife and I came here based on the great OT and CH reviews for a casual celebration. We each ordered three courses, no desserts.
My wife's choices:
Goat and Falafel
Figs and mushrooms
Both my wife and I agreed that she made the better choices. The octopus bolognese was the standout. She was full halfway through the bolognese course so I finished hers before I finished my venison.
The only issue I have with Louro is the menu style. It makes it very difficult to know how to order a balanced meal. All in all, my wife and I both found our total meal to be a bit rich. But the food is outstanding and we will be back to try more.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friends and I had a wonderful meal at Louro. We each ordered the tasting menu and enjoyed every course. Our server was friendly and attentive and the cocktail list is very very good.
If this place was in any other city, I would've given it 5-stars (but hey, this is NYC).

Love this place, it never disappoints. Lots of spanish/middle eastern influences and large enough variety for the meat and potatoes eater. It's my co to restaurant for a fun dinner!
