Clio - Masters in the Art of Food
Boston is one of the world's great cities. Clio is certainly one of the finest restaurants in Boston. My wife and I search for the rare experience of exceptional chef paired with professional service. Clio is a must for those who are in search of masters of the art. Chef Oringer creates unique prix fix meals for each customer. The service is impeccable. The sommelier is courageous - yes! - not afraid to try something new. We had a beer pairing that were perfect. Rare find. Not to be missed.

Outstanding food. More importantly
Outstanding food. More importantly your service enhanced the dining experience. A Classy restaurant. The food and staff were superb.

So close to great, but not there.
We had the seven course tasting. The quality of the food varied dramatically. Most of it was excellent, a few things were truly outstanding, but then the lamb at the end was literally one large piece of fat. We almost didn't mind, except that after pointing out about the lamb, the server said or did nothing. We weren't as impressed with the service as the food. But even after the (very high) cost, we will try it again, to see if they work out the kinks. It is very close to an outstanding experience.

Clio produced the best meal
Clio produced the best meal I have ever eaten. I had the 7 course tasting and it was amazing. My only complaint is that this place is in Boston and not in my hometown. Clio will be my restaurant for now on when I come to Boston.

Really special. Appetizers,
Really special. Appetizers, entrees and deserts all unique . A terrific Manhattan with a black cherry and workable wine list. I would return without question on my next trip to Boston.

The food at Clio is creative and outstanding. We had the 7 course tasting menu, which included samples from Uni (Clio's Sushi bar).
The service was attentive, but not hovering. The space is modest size but the layout is superb, so we did not feel that the neighboring table was too close.
Definitely one of the best restaurants in Boston.

Food was innovative and delicious.
Food was innovative and delicious. Service was top notch. Everyone in my group of six gushed about our firsts, mains, and desserts. A fabulous evening!

Great tasting dinner
We went here for a special occasion and had the tasting menu. It was wonderful with attentive service too. The lamb was superb as were the hay carrots.Highly reccomended.

One of the best restaurants
Clio serves some of the best food anywhere. It's pricy, but it's great for a special night out.

Ridiculous Wine Markups
Inventive cooking. First class ingredients. Pretty room. Ridiculous wine markups (3X+) from a very good list.

Clio is Awesome!
Clio is awesome! We enjoyed a 7 course tasting menu; left to the chef to decide... and every bite of every course was phenomenal. We live in Manhattan and have dined at every top restaurant NYC has to offer, and we would rate Clio right up there as one of the best. Truly a most enjoyable experience.

Good restaurant, but...
Took some friends here on Saturday, we were a little disappointed that we hatod to do the "special" graduation menu rather than having the option of the regular 11- or 14-course options. The meal was well-executed, but seemed less innovative than I was hoping for from Clio. Also, there were several mistakes made in regard to my friend's poultry allergy (she was served foie gras, for instance). Wish we'd gone a different weekend for the best experience.

The food at Clio was - delicious, creative,
And Special!! A memorable 10 course tasting menu!!!

Creative, Artistic Cuisine
Lobster and sea urchine soup, yellowtail and tuna sushimi - apps. Venison done 2 ways, scallops to die for. All part of the experience at Clio. First time there, will return.

incredible food, great mixologist
Fabulous flavors, textures and interesting combinations - who knew a carrot salad could take your breath away? Great use of seasonal foods, too. Lots of people provided the service, and were reasonably attentive. Our main server missed a few things, but we would happily overlook that, and come back for sure for another very enjoyable and delicious meal. The man behind the bar is a skilled mixologist with a welcoming personality.

Your new favorite restaurant
I promised my wife that Clio would become her new favorite, and it did! Wonderful experience, fine, attentive service. We could tell that everyone on the waitstaff really knew the food. We had a 7 course tasting menu, which was perfect. Strawberry gazpacho, swordfish. foie gras, and slow roasted pork roast were exceptional. We didn't do wine pairing, but our serve helped suggest moderately price wines by the glass.
6/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I had a great time at Clio. The servers were friendly and prompt. The food was fantastic and the drinks were terrific! Recommended!
6/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We recently visited Clio and decided to be adventurous with the Chef's 7 Course Tasting Menu. We splurged for the wine pairing as well. The food and wine were fantastic and as was the service. We will definitely be back.
6/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
We thought Clio was a very good restaurant. The food was very inventive and delicious. Our waitress was the best part however! Wish we could remember her name! She was perfect. Attentive but not overbearing and always had excellent suggestions - she even created a cocktail just for me - a refreshing cantaloupe concoction with gin. So yummy. We loved the fluke entree and the seared foie gras appetizer. The pork entree was disappointing. A little boring and bland. My husband also loved his mushroom appetizer.

Delectable & Delicious
Delectable & Delicious. Good for foodies and people who want great food with style. Dishes are approachable unlike some fine restaurants who over-the-top invent. Portions are about right, but if you're a big eater, you may need to order an appetizer and a soup, besides the entree. Service was excellent, atmosphere was nice and comfortable, unlike restaurants who decorate with too much panache and forget that it's all about the food. Could get a little noisy. Definitely $$$$.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our first time to the restaurant and the meals were an adventure in taste with some many unique tastes and textures to enjoy. Came out with a much lower tab than I expected. The wine list is amazing, although somewhat daunting. The only semi-negative comment would be that the restaurant itself still kind of had a hotel restaurant vibe with seating and lighting giving me of that feeling. No real booths or seating areas for any real privacy. We got the most private seating in the place in the corner near the kitchen. Overall it was a very satisfactory experience and a place to go at least once a year.
6/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
A restaurant in keeping with the elegance of the Eliot Hotel. Beautiful ambience, with exceptional service. Great attention to details, but not overbearing. Our server was friendly, informative, and made us feel completely comfortable. The food exploded with flavour, and every bite is meant to be savoured. Outstanding from start to finish, with one exception: the coffee served was luke warm.
Exceptional desserts. Loved the escargot and the marinated tuna.

Over the Top
This is as close to the French Laundry as exists in Boston. The food is artistically stunning. Flavors and textures are out of this world. Portions are very rich and small. It is a nice place to take a lady who doesn't want to leave stuffed, but whom you want to treat elegantly.
The bar offerings are complicated and unusual. Take the plunge. Their crazy scientific concoctions actually work. Try the vodka gimlet or the melon Tom Collins. The room is sparkly and the wait staff is upbeat. Clio is special.
6/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
The wait staff was extremely
The wait staff was extremely courteous and well prepared. The food was cooked to perfection and beautifully plated. The wine list offered something to accompany every dish. The space was refined and elegant. All together it made for a wonderful evening discovering food.
6/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
and very good service. The flexibility to allow for dishes additional to the Chef's menu is indicative of the desire to satisfy customers... Excellent wine list as well...

Do the tasting menu, but keep
Do the tasting menu, but keep in mind that 10 courses is a lot! If you're going to do a tasting menu with wine pairings, take a cab. The bread is delicious, but I regretted having it when I couldn't finish either dessert. Strawberry gazpacho, smoky salmon & mustard broth, skate wing, foie-gras, and the first dessert were all fantastic.
7/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Simply the best, and GF too
This has long been a special place. Great food, no rush, plenty of room, amazing service and a very personal feel. But now I learned that they can do Gluten-free better than anyone. The best GF bread, and ability to tailor many meals with no noticeable loss of yum! Pastry chef has Celiacs and desserts are off the charts good.
If I had one place to celebrate one occasion and know it would be great, Clio is the place and has been for yours. You can have your hip new trendy places and I'll keep my Clio.

Clio pleases as usual
We went to Clio last Friday. The food was delicious: we got seared foie gras and oysters for appetizers, then I got assiette of lamb and he ordered pork shoulder for the main course. All, the appetizers and the main courses were fantastic, I even liked how the oysters were served, already topped in the made-in-the-house sauce. It was tasty, not over-killing, but rather a delicate addition to the shell fish. The seared foie gras was cooked to perfection - not too much and not too little, melted in our mouth and the additions made this fabulous dish even tastier for us. We didn't stay for dessert, maybe next time. The service was top notch, as always and the wine was a great addition to our meals. We'll be back soon.
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was our first time my husband and I had been to Clio so we opted for the 14 course tasting menu, which may have been a little too much food, as you have to take into account you are also having (four to five) drinks along the way. Other options for the tasting menu include a 7 and 10 course, the later of which I think would've sufficed.
Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the cuisine we were served and since we opted not to do the wine pairing, she worked with the kitchen and bar to craft cocktails that would flow with our courses. All in all, like the review title says, an outstanding experience and a recommend for any foodie when visiting Boston.
8/8/2013 5:00:00 PM
We have lived in Boston for many years, but for some reason never dined at Clio. We went for a special birthday dinner, and we were VERY impressed. Great level of service, friendly and informative without being overbearing. The food was phenomenal - the amuse bouche to start, the appetizers, the entrees and the lovely birthday surprise - all were perfect. We will be back!
8/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Enjoyed a nice evening with friends sharing small and large plates at this hip new spot. Loved the grilled octopus and prawn dishes to start. All entrees were incredible.
Good staff, simple décor, open kitchen - all very nice. Dried flower décor on the table was unnecessary and seemed dated.
Would definitely go back.
8/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the seven course tasting menu. It was a wonderful array of chef specialties, and we enjoyed all of it. It looked and tasted like art. The restaurant has a curious way of having a relaxed atmosphere, but the food is not relaxed at all, it is the height of high cuisine, at least in our humble opinion. The waitress had a very good knowledge of what wine went well with what. We had an outstanding meal.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
It's the best restaurant in Boston
Sous-vide everything brings out flavors you never knew existed in meat. Pricey yes, but worth it every time.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had the 14-course tasting
We had the 14-course tasting menu on our visit, and it was truly stunning. Several days later we are still turning to each other and saying 'did I say that the escargot was my favorite? I forgot the corn soup! Remember how it ... wow'. The food was innovative without being crazy for no reason, the molecular cooking techniques were used for a reason and not just to show that they could do them. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We started the evening with a couple of cocktails at their bar, and those too were intelligent and different but delicious and carefully crafted. The service was impeccable, they knew everything and were able to answer questions, both before ordering and about each dish, knowledgeably.

In a word: AMAZING!
One of the most memorable culinary adventures of our lives! The chef's tasting menu (we did the 10 course) is definitely the way to go....prepare to be wowed! From the superlative service to the warm, comfortable ambiance to the exquisite food....we were seduced by every morsel set before us. Thank you to everyone at Clio for a sublime experience! (With special 'props' to Grace and Ken!)
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Waited with anticipation for this meal. Delivered as expected. Ten course tasting was just right for my wife and me (no wine pairing). Each dish and each bite of each dish was unique and memorable.
Highly recommend dining at Clio if you are in the Boston area.

Pricy but meets expectations
There is coice of 7, 10, or 14 tasting menu coarses. For just the 7 course tasting and pairing, it is a little more pricy than expected (based on other tastings we have don, so be ready for $$$ where the first number is a 4 or 5 without tip). Also, if like to know what will be served/better manage costs, the tasting options are not for you since each coarse is a "surprise". With that noted, the wine pairings were surprising and refreshing (really solid work to enhance the coarse). Most coarses include a unique technique and ingrediant that any foodie would love to discuss. The staff is entergetic and accommodating (the coarses can be modified based on your feedback (ex. a dish was motified to remove sea urchin for us)).
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of the best meals EVER
We did the 10 course tasting menu. 2 cocktails a piece. Our waitress was a gem - funny, informative, delightful. The food was absolutely fantastic. We would go here again in a second.
9/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
Really liked this restaurant. My only feeling was that the appetizers were very overpriced in relation to the entrees. But will return again!!!!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
I love your creativity and
I love your creativity and how well you manage your restaurant,on par with Le Bernadine
the lobster cassoulet was outstanding.Would have had it as an entree -delicous and beautiful

Simply Boston's Best
Clio is simply the best restaurant in Boston. I've been here countless times and have actually never read the menu. We have the chef's tasting every time and so should everyone. The care that is put into every detail of each dish is mind boggling. Always a treat to start with the tomato water martini. The imagination and pairings are so much fun and the most unexpected combinations are typically the best. I strongly suggest you let them take you on a spectacular food journey.. You will not be disappointed.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding meal, the skate
Outstanding meal, the skate and scallops; superb flavors and artistically presented.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Menu is fantastic and the food is even better. Service is also excellent. The prices for the food and service is a bargain. If I lived in Boston, this place would be a regular go to spot.
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Love the food
At Clio you can expect to find the best flavors... they use a unique variety of ingredients (you might need to have many items on the menu explained...). You will love the test, as well as all the different textures used in one dish. I totally recommend it.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and service!
It's been so many years since my husband and I went to Clio to celebrate my birthday. We are pleasantly surprised by the creative and delicious dishes, using some exotic ingredients and spices that goes so well together. I just did not like the dessert we ordered(Le something French - choco bits and pieces with some kind of salt and ice cream) - creative but not yummy! Nevertheless, it's easy to forgive and forget as the appetizer, entrée and service were excellent! We would go back again, anytime!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Could have had better options for parties of two which tend to be more "romantic, intimate" dining.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Dinning But....
Went to eat at Clio for the first time this weekend. Was very excited and did a 10 course pairing. The food and wine pairing was very good. While not quite L'Espalier, very good creative food. Each bite made you want more which any good tasting should. Our waitress was one of the best ever. She was very knowledgeable, accommodating & generous. The only issue I had was when the bill came. Wow! Now I am all for spending car payment on a dinner but I do not like to be misquoted a price like I was at Clio. Overall, if you are foodie, it should not be missed if you are in Boston. The food is that good and creative. There bar is great too. Exceptional bartenders. Just make sure you ask the waitress what the price is not the host.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Too little light
The only negative was the light. Too little light to read the menu and or see the beautifully plated food. People were using their phones as flashlights to read the menu which was annoying.
The wait staff is absolutely outstanding.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
my wife and I went to Clio on Sat Nov 16th for the first time , we had the 7 coarse meal with wine pairing, it was fantastic. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable . The waitress we had was great. We will be back

Seven course tasting menu
As always we really enjoyed the food. Extremly creative and delicious. We really would not call it romantic. The noise level is very high and the atmosphere/ lighting is almost cold. We wish it had a bit more ellegance than hip. Service was outstanding! Also you MUST order something from the bar, genious drinks!
