Pizza & Wine lovers paradise
The pizza at LaMadia reminds me of the pizza in Roma, Italy. The crust is thin and the toppings are fresh and flavourful. The wine list is amzing, something for eveyone.

Even though Chicago is known
Even though Chicago is known for several name-recognized pizza restaurants, our favorite pizza restaurant is La Madia!
6/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
I recently dined at LaMadia with a group of 6 young women. We shared pizza fondue and two pies (one red sauce, one white). The food was amazing, as was the wine selection. And, to top it off the complimentary birthday desserts were to die for. We are very happy wtih our decision to dine at LaMadia and will each be returning individually. It seems like a great place both for larger parties and for smaller more intimate dinners.

Our experience was terrific, waiters highly accommodating, food excellent, atmosphere was clean , crisp and very happy. Noise level was not too high and not low low - just right !! Wine selection was fantastic- waiters knew his wines..Only suggestion was our waiter was spread too thin and seemed so rushed ( but he was working so hard and was very pleasant)

We had a group, including some out of town family members. We love La Madia's pizzas and our guests agreed. We had 2 salads and each ordered a different pizza so we could share slices. My favorites are still the 3 cheese & sausage/onions, although I may order the soprasetta...

Ralph is a gem
We had artichokes and two pizzas...I could have eaten 4 more orders of the artichokes...they were that good! Terrific dipping sauces.
The pizzas were good, nice oven fired crust. Fresh arugula was a nice touch.
The highlight was our waiter Ralph. He knew quite a lot about his wine selections and his taste seemed to be right on.

River North Favorite
I discovered La Madia in 2009 and the restaurant has yet to disappoint. I love the food (pizzas and salads, specifically the arugala salad with apples), environment and great wine list. Can't wait for my next visit....

Pizza was fabulous; thin crust. And the salad was great and huge! My Mom, sister and I shared one salad as a side. We also tried the Ravioli dish that was just okay; but many wonderful dishes passed our table as we dined that looked amazing. My Mom has hearing aids, so a bit loud for her. They were great about finding us the most quiet table. Keeping this on my need to go list when in Chicago!

Great lunch date
Unfotunately my date couldn't make it but I went anyway and was treated great! I sat at a table in the bar area by the open sidewalk door. I loved it since it was such a nice night out. The staff was so kind to let me take up a table for almost two hours! I was waiting for my Dining Companion who was stuch in a meeting. I had a glass of wine and the bruschetta while waiting and when I got the call I was going to be dining alone they were kind enough to let me order and eat and pack up the rest to bring for my DC. They couldn't have been any nicer and the food is great. This particular time I had the smoked pork belly pizza with kale and carmelized onions. Wonderful.

We had reservations and were not seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. We had to request a dessert menu, and it took the server 8 minutes to bring it to us, then he did not return for our dessert order for another 5 minutes. However, when our orders were placed, the kitchen seemed to turn out the orders in a reasonable amount of time. The food was excellent!
There was a large family seated next to us and they were quite loud, to the point we almost had to yell across the table at each other.

Always a great choice
La Madia is a great choice, no matter the occasion. I arrived early and had a glass of the featured white wine at the bar, and found the bartenders very friendly and welcoming.
Once my 2 friends arrived, we ordered the mushroom bruschetta and various salads. All were delicious! The wine list is very vast, but not overwhelming and the server was very helpful and knowledgable about the wines.
We sat there and caught up long after our check arrived, and the staff was very accommodating and never pushy about us having to leave.
Great restaurant, food, ambiance and wine selection!

Late night dining
Very enjoyable experience at La Madia. Our reservations were for 11 pm, and even though they change to a late night menu, it still offered a nice selection. Our server was knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The pizza we ordered (Cracked Organic Egg, Prosciutto & Black Pepper) was outstanding. Would definetely go back.

Triple Pepperoni To Die For!
This is, hands down, the BEST thin crust pizza in town. The triple pepperoni pizza is so exceptional...words cannot describe! We came in with a toddler and my dad, who is in a wheel chair, and they were so accommodating. The waiter even brought over a large piece of dough for my son to play with! Amazing food, amazing wine, and exceptional service...what's not to like?

Great food, excellent place
Great food, excellent place to take kids, very good service. Kids make their own mini-pizzas so pracitcally speaking they eat for free. Great by the glass wine selection.

Fantastic as always
This restaurant is one of our favorite in the city and we have yet to be disappointed. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Very pleasant experience
We've been to this restaurant before, and selected it for an early Sunday dinner with friends from out of town so we could chat and catch up. We weren't disappointed--particularly since we were seated in the back room. We had a combination of vegetarians and omnivores in our party, and everyone found something to their liking. The mushroom bruschetta and the arugula salad were both very good. Three of us opted for the daily specials: the "Hawaiian" pizza with spec--nicely sweet and spicy--and the heirloom tomato pizza with pesto (a winner with the vegetarian). Our server was attentive--but never invasive--and well-informed about the menu and food/wine pairings.

Great food and pizza!
Great location for groups, families or even a romantic date!

a hip place, good food
Place is quite contemporary. Service was a little standoffish as I felt slightly like the waitress thought she was a little cooler than her customers. My drink was a pomegranate crush/soda type drink- refreshing but slightly weak on alcohol for $10. I had a proscuitto and burrata sandwich on nicely moist yet crisp flat bread. Sandwich was excellent, it came with a nondescript salad with a light vinagrette. My husband had an arugula and proscuitto pizza, perfect match, large quantity of proscuitto, crust flavorful, hot, slightly chewy at edge and crisp enough to hold up the middle while bringing it up to take a bite. Recommend

Enjoyed every bite of what we ordered. Our server was excellent and really paid attention to details and asked questions before serving to really make the meal more to our liking.

Pizza from the gods
In a city that is notorius for pizza, La Madia raises the bar.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice change of pace
Started with the stuffed artichoke which wasn't that great. But the rest of the dinner was wonderful. Salads are huge and delicious. Had the soup of the day and was perfect. The ravioli in brown butter sauce superb and the pizza was just something else. Baked in a brick oven over an open fire. Crispy and delicious! Went for a birthday occasion. Service was excellent. Would go back anytime!

Innovative Flavors, Great Service
Ever since our first two recent trips to Italy, we have been seeking out the authentic Italian restaurants (over the Italian-American ones). Pizza drives our search. We were impressed by the delicious pizza offerings - our favorite was Wood Smoked Porkbelly Kale, Garlic, Carmelized Onion, & Caciocavallo Cheese - unbelievably flavorful! The pastas menu is simple but classic to Italy...we plan to return to try them. The service by Lindsay was awesome. She was so helpful with the wine and entrée selections. The only thing that really needs changing is the music. It doesn't fit and seems out of place. (James Brown, and some others 70s-80s Soul??) It kinda ruined the dining experience.

Excellent Food - Great Pizza
We will definitely be back. It is our new favorite pizza place. Salad, spinach appetizer were delicious. And the apple dessert...yummy!

Really Fresh, Flavorful Food!
We truly loved everything we tried. The soup de jour (wild mushroom) was very flavorful & not salty (as some restaurant soups tend to be). Arugula salad had some of the brightest, crispest greens I've seen outside of Italy. The risotto was outstanding, butter and cheese and shrimp so sweet they tasted fresh out of the sea. The wine list has many great Italian options that are quite reasonable. Our server Alex was well versed in answering our menu questions. The ambiance is warm and inviting with a stylish neighborhood feel. Desserts are a must! Oh and I almost forgot- the best Caprese bruschetta I have ever had- how they make it so light is just incredible. This is my new favorite Italian spot. Looking forward to trying the pizzas next time

Pizza, Salad, and Wine- Enough Said
Recently took a date to La Madia and it exceeded my expectations! La Madia is my favorite place to grab a delicious pizza, salad, and bottle of wine. Service is always fast, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient (as there are several great options to choose from!). I love the arugula and apple salad to start -- perfect for two people to warm up before pizza. Be adventurous and try one of their white pizzas!

Loud but good
The pizza and salads were very good. The restaurant was very loud. It was hard to hear the person sitting next to you.
They could use a little help with noise reduction / soundproofing.
But great pizza.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was really good!
Good food, good wine, and it wasn't too loud. great place for a date :)
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
La Madia is a great "go-to" The food is made fresh; and the wine list delivers! Pairings are also recommended wish is great if you just want to rely on the experts for a fantastic meal!

Great Food, Reasonably Priced
One of our favorite go-to spots: really nice energy and ambience, a menu that is expansive but still reasonably priced for River North, and you can almost always get a reservation on a days notice. The bottom line though is that we just really love the pizza and that keeps up coming back time and time again. They are brick oven style and the ingredient combinations are less predictable and more gourmet than your typical pizza spot. I also love that they offer seasonal options too; last night we had the heirloom tomato with arugula pesto and ricotta....just fantastic! And whatever you do, make sure not to miss out on the cracked organic egg and prosciutto pizza...seriously it's out of this world. Thanks, La Madia, we'll see you again soon!

Great Modern Pizza
This place just "gets it" right without too much fuss or fanfare. Very good and creative pizza is the star attraction. Good wine list and attentive staff. Nice enough for a date or casual business meal but not over the top, not stuffy, not overly trendy. Great sense of culinary and decor taste and style.

Love this place!
One of my all time faves and they didn't disappoint! Everything was great as usual :-)

Terrific Chef, Jonathon Fox, with great offerings of delicious pizzas and fabulous salads which are large enough to share. A MUST try restaurant. Highly recommend!

Celebrated my birthday with 5 girl friends. We had an appetizer and split 3 pizzas. It was perfect and the food was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
foodies need to get here...
We have been coming to this place since we stumbled upon it some time ago. The woodfire pizzas are amazing, the pastas are fresh and exciting and delicious. However the most amazing dish we crave is the appetizer spinach & teleggio fondue with white truffle oil. Let me tell you that this stuff is amazing to dip into. You will want to save it so you can dip the pizza crust into it. We have tried pretty much most of the pizzas and all the pastas and have never had a bad meal. Service is great and friendly. Highly recommend this gem.
10/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
Loved this place! Dip was beyond amazing and pasta was fantastic. Pizza great and drinks unique. Def will be back.

Great Wood Fired Pizza
La Madia always offers great food and an extensive wine list. Would have given a higher service rating - waiter was excellent - but had to wait awhile for reservation, seemed even longer because it was a late night reservation. (Actually had to reach back out to hostess as they appeared to forget we were waiting in the bar.....) Life is busy and so are very good restaurants, so this wouldn't deter me from continuing to keep La Madia on my short list of great River North eateries.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
The pesto/arugula pizza special was very good. I hope they keep that on the "special" menu for some time. Three of us split that pizza and a second one. There were no leftovers from the pesto/arugula. We shared a reasonably good bottle of red with dinner then the waitress suggested a Malbec with the chocolate dessert. It was a sweet Malbec that was close to the taste of a port and was a nice finish to a great night with friends.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great specialty pizzas, nice scene. Overall good time :)
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu is not huge. The wine list is. The portions are more than enough. I have been here as part of a group of nearly 20 and as a party of 2, both times the food was very good.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Slow service; good food
4 of us had dinner last Friday night. 2 pizzas, 1 risotto, 1 salad. Food was very good, but our server was very slow. Although the restaurant was busy, it seemed as though he had no idea what he was doing. It took 3 requests for him to get another beer; he never brought the bread that we asked for; and although we asked for an extra fork, it never showed up.
Better training would definitely help because good food alone does not keep people coming back

A night to remember!
Everything was great from beginning to end. Knowledgeable bartender knew her wines, our server was attentive, but not overbearing and the food!! Pizza fondue, mushroom/goat cheese bruchetta, arugula salad and the pizzas were all great. The dessert was a warm polenta chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream. All items were very reasonable in price. Hate to give it such a great review because the word might get out about this little gem.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
The pizzas were unique and tasty
The wild mushroom bruschetta delicious
Artichoke was thin
Service was adequate

Aways a good choice
I recommended La Madia for a girls night out. I'd been many time before and always had a good experience. I was not disappointed. Everyone loved the food and the atmosphere. The risotto and the mushroom brochette were delicious. And the best part - it was very reasonable. We had 2 bottles of wine, appetizers, pizza & risotto and it was only $43 each (including tip). Love this place.
