A neighborhood favorite
We had not been to this location since it was Hyde Street Bistro. This was our first time at Cocotte and I am sorry it took us so long to get there. We live just 3 blocks away! From the moment we walked in the door, everything was great - warmly greeted, offered a choice of tables, our server was attentive and helpful and the food was excellent. Highlights for us were the lobster salad, the rotisserie chicken, the cauliflower gratin and the apple tarte tatin, but everything we ordered was very good. They've also done a nice job with the interior. It feels much more contemporary and current, but still warm and cozy with nice lighting and comfortable furnishings. Great experience, we will be back!

Cocotte a hidden gem!
Our meal at Cocotte was fabulous. My wife and I made an early reservation to allow for outside seating. There are only 2 tables outside on Hyde St. We arrived and were immediately seated at one of the 2 outside tables. Our host, who was also tending bar, was very personable, friendly, and offerred up suggestions and help when we asked. Our plan for the night was to try as many of the white wines and appetizers as we could. The wines and food were outstanding. Overall a cozy place with a real neighborhood vibe going on. I highly recommend this place for anyone in the Nob Hill area looking for a small indpendent restaurant with fantastic food, great ambiance, and attentive service!

Great Experience, best yet in SF
By far Cocotte is the BEST restaurant I've dine in since arriving to SF four weeks ago. The chicken is out of this world! I had the coq au vin and my sister had the rotisserie - both were simply amazing. I did noticed that all the guests in the restaurant were women. It was early evening, so perhaps couples hadn't made it out yet. It is a gem of restaurant. A GREAT place to go with girlfriends or on a romantic date. I highly recommend it. Service was great too!

Enjoyed the menu combinations of French food. Appreciated the service with a friendly attitude especially when the maytre'd hailed a taxi for us which was a challenge

We really enjoyed everything about this place. Great food, excellent service and very comfortable. We loved the fact that it was not pretentious and the wine selection is very interesting and not pricey. Good value and a fun evening in the neighborhood!

Wonderful experience here
Wonderful experience here with friends. The food was excellent and we enjoyed a curated menu which included only the chef's favorite dishes. Great service with a friendly, welcoming vibe. The rotisserie was fantastic!

Hyde Street gem
In the spot formerly Hyde Street Bistro a new arrival, Cocotte holds up a high local standard. Our party liked the coq au vin and the scallops a lot. Will need to return to try other menu listings. They had several Belgian beers as well as wine.

Impeccable service. Impeccable food. Definitely one of the best restaurants ever visited!

Romantic neighborhood spot
This is a lovely little French neighborhood restaurant. Take your sig-o here for a special occasion and you will not disappointed. French ex-pats hungry for taste of home will also enjoy this place. Bar seats ~six and serves a full menu. Service is superb - warm and attentive.

Unusual French Setting
A wonderful place with a casual feel, with food to share. The meals are of great quality with a nice selection of vine. I was very pleased with the Pork Belly and the cocottes. Wonderful find & well worth the trip into this neighborhood.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
the food was delicious as was the wonderful French waiter who explained the menu to us telling us where the food came from and what the specialties were. We will go back and try other appetizers and entrees; but the lobster salad was delicious. My spouse and I shared the salad and felt we each had plenty. The scallops were superb served on the bed of squid ink risotto in a basil sauce. Just the right amount of food! We, of course, had to try the tart tatin which once again we split but it was so delightful I could have eaten the whole thing!

We had brunch at Cocotte on Saturday and it was perfect. It was quiet, which for a brunch location in SF, is hard to find. The selections on the menu were varied, not your usual brunch fare.
Our waiter, Will, was attentive and personable, which is not always the case at Cocotte.
I have some foodies coming in from Chicago, so will take them there for Saturday bruch, as they too enjoy the quiet atmosphere of a restaurant.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome service, was late and they were great about it - waiting staff were attentive and great personalities - altogether it was wonderful and I will be back!

Cute but small
We had the french onion soup special to start then the roast chicken &duck confit. I enjoyed the soup &loved the duck-the sauce was amazing. The cocotte sides were fine &a nice accompaniment (duck only came w/ a small handful of arugula) but I'm not sure I would spend $6 on one (most mains have 1 free). The molten chocolate cake for dessert was fantastic!
Service was friendly but the restaurant is small, so our table along a bench had only 3-4 inches between it & the tables either side. It made sliding in &out of the bench seat quite challenging, &impossible to do without interrupting your neighbors meal.
All in all a very enjoyable dinner, and I would definitely return but would not recommend the small restaurant for kids or large groups.

I really enjoyed my evening at Cocotte. I was impressed with the great food and service. Small and intimate space. Very European feel in SF. Can't wait to return.

Every dish was really, really good
I am no expert on French food. I mostly went to La Bergerie and Le Tricolor when they were around.
The combination of tenderness and the symbiosis of the flavors of every dish was very satisfying and interesting. Portios were right on. We had the coq au vin, the duck confit, the rotisserie chicken and the 6 hour pork belly. All beautiful! We had the onion soup, a special appetizer, and a salad. Even the salad was notable. Banana creme brulee, apple tart, berry/cream/pastry were equally wonderful.

We scored the little alcove
We scored the little alcove space at this restaurant..there were only two of us..it was perfect! I had the rotisserie chicken dish with the sauces..from my point of view they could just give me gobs of the mushroom sauce! YUM! Everything was delicious and the service was great. We have been here when it was still Hyde Street Bistro..still the same great place ..

a welcome Frech bistro
Excellent restaurant with great food, a reasonably priced wine list, great ambience, and energetic service. Will go back.

A perfect addition to the Hyde Street food scene. Everything feels like a typical Parisian neighborhood bistro - with cable cars. The food is consistently tasty and the service is friendly. A solid "go to" restaurant.

Great food and very friendly
Great food and very friendly service! Pork belly is amazing!

Delicious French Food
Great place that I randomly found on Hyde street. Service was amazing and the food was delicious. We arrived early an got to sit in the 2 person cove that was very romantic. Appetizers, main, and dessert were all fantastic. Definitely will come back.
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
One of my favorite meals recently. Everything was perfectly prepared and served. The chicken liver pâté was velvety and delicious and the Bronzino was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgable. We sat in a romantic little nook for two in the corner. We will definitely go back soon and take some friends with us. Loved it!!
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent dinner; noisey setting
The noise level is the only reason I don't give Cocotte five stars. I kept having to repeat stuff to my 61-year-old hubby. It's a small place so not much they can do about it. (And it was a Thursday night.) There is one alcove table and I will ask for it next time we go. The coq au vin was very good, salad was fine, and apple tarte was to die for. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. We will be back!

One of my favorties
Cocotte is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. The Beef Wellington is one of the best I have ever had, and this time they added a side of bone marrow. Simply delicious! Every other dish that I have ever tried is equally amazing

Always a Favorite
I've been coming to this restaurant for years ... previously Hyde Street Bistro. It is one of my favorite places for a romantic but unfussy date night with my husband. The waitstaff is attentive and the vibe is very cozy. You feel as if you have been transported to a little bistro in France. Food is decadent and delicious. I am very happy they added the Beef Wellington back onto the menu. An absolute favorite!

We came on what turned out
We came on what turned out to be a quiet Tuesday evening. Had the Roast Chicken and Pork Belly, with additional sides. Everything was spot on.

will definately go back
From the excellent/friendly service to the amazing menu - this place is awesome. I've been before and they seem to keep the menu fresh. This place is a gem.

Cute place for brunch!
Had a tasty and pleasant lunch at cocotte. Portions are not overly generous but are well done. Excellent service. They were setting up for a private dinner toward the end of our late Lunch and the place looked incredible! Parking is tough in that area. Highly recommended.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a great place for wonderful french food. We were visiting San Francisco as tourists and did some research on a good restaurant and found Cocotte. We were blown away by the food and service. I would definitely go back.

This great neighborhood spot is not to be missed! Whether you are a local or from out of town! The wait staff very friendly and helpful. Food is top notch Zagat notable. Many small plate and tapas items meant to be shared. Atmosphere is intimate, romantic and inviting without the stuffy pretense.

I went there because I was
I went there because I was craving beef wellington and not many places are serving a classic french style wellington in the area. It exceeded my expectations in every way possible, cooked to perfection with a perfectly flaky pastry.
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Cute French bistro with moderate prices and great food. Loved the organic Petaluma chicken - shared with my husband the half size along with an appetizer, two cocottes and dessert. Everything was great. Nice waiter who accommodated my long wait for my husband until he found a parking spot. Would definitely go back!

Great French Bistro
Love Cocotte, its got a great vibe and feels so authentically french.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was my 1st time here, but it will not be the last time. I love the " quiet" atmosphere, were a normal loud conversation can take place. The restauramt is very cozy, nice dim lighting, great people, food was fantastic from the rabbit appetizer to the coq au vin to an apple tart tatin dessert. A dream. Service is very authentically honest , friendly and attentive. Feels very european. Really nothing at all to complain. Great neighborhood too, with some nice wine bars around. What else does one need.

We are visiting for a month
We are visiting for a month and this restaurant is in our neighborhood. What a great spot to have nearby. Very pleasant staff. I ordered the butternut squash soup to start- very nice and would order again! and scallops and they were cooked perfectly. My husband had the rotisserie chicken and he said it was so good without the three sauces which accompanied the dish.
We hope to come back before the end of our trip.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
OMG I can't wait to go back!
This place is wonderful. A week later my husband and I are still talking about the potato goat cheese gratin. The mussels
were divine as were the pommes frites. Already have a res to go back and take friends. Can't wait.

Delicious as always!
Cocotte is one of my favorite neighborhood spots... It's great for a casual week night catch up, or a cute weekend date-spot. As usual, the meal was outstanding! For a table of two, we had the Duck Platter, Beet & Frisee Salad with Fried Camembert (wildly delicious), and the Six Hours Pork Belly with a cocotte of Brussels Sprouts. All delicious and paired wonderfully with the Rhone wine we ordered.

Authentic French country style
Authentic French country style restaurant, with many old favorites (beef wellington, coq au vin, duck confit, mussels meuniere, tarte tatin, etc.). All the food we had was very well prepared, an it seems to be a local favorite.

Great French Restaurant, good food, nice atmosphere, desirable location, difficult parking
We enjoy the restaurant very much and will go back for a special occasion.

Incredible food, wonderful chefs and staff, wonderful service!!!

Great French bistro
A new favorite restaurant for me. Traditional French bistro fare, but with the chef's individual touches shining through. The preparation of each dish was outstanding. Very lively and convivial place, but not trendy. I look forward to many future meals.

Great low key thanksgiving thought the beef Wellington was probably better than the turkey. Great desserts.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
We went there for their special
We went there for their special Thanksgiving dinner. The food was very good with great service. They were fully booked so the staff were very busy. After we finished I asked if they could call a cab for us, but I they did not seem to have the time to do it. We managed to find one on our own. I would like to try them again when it is not a holiday.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent country french style cuisine, with stellar service. lapin starter was amazing and cocotte and coq au vin entrees were both excellent. French wine list and advice for pairings was right on. Comfortable ambience in this neighborhood storefront location. Highly recommended.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Came here with 4 friends & we loved it! The menu is savory & offers a nice range of seafood, poultry & beef.
Lobster salad beef Wellington & rotisserie chicken are a must!

Nice little place
The food is good, average price, and it's got a nice feel. I like how the portions we're normal size. I'd eat there again.

Spur of the Moment Birthday Dinner
My friend and I decided to try Cocotte for her birthday on the spur of the moment on a Monday. We got their early and it was empty, but within 15 minutes the entire place was filled. The staff were friendly and helpful in choosing wine. We got a bottle of wine and shared the cheese platter, which made us pretty full before our main courses showed up. I got the Beef Wellington with bone marrow (awesome) and my friend go the New York Steak and gratin potatoes (the steak was a little chewy and definitely on the medium-side which wasn't how it was asked for). The goat cheese gratin potatoes were really yummy and came straight out of the oven/broiler. Overall a really solid experience.
