Cheviche was amazing
I had the cheviche which was on special and it was amazing. Really fresh and the presentation was beautiful!

Food fantastic Great menu and good value. Waiter a bit confused, but finally got things going. Out of featured Sake. Tsk Tsk.
Small portions allow lots of sampling.

Sashimi with RED wine!
Who'd have thought it, but Chef Handry's wonderful sashimi--especially the fatty fish like Otoro--goes great with light, high-acid red wines like Burgundy and Beaujolais. Amazing combination!

Good sushi In DC
Fish is fresh, and the seaweed salad is the best I've ever had! I would go back just for the seaweed salad.

Love the food but prefer the atmosphere at the Glover Park location:)

Chef Handry is amazing
We sat at the Sushi bar and just asked Chef Handry to create whatever he felt like--all off-the-menu dishes--and the experience was spectacular. He is a wizard. The Otoro (fatty tuna) was totally melt-in-your mouth and the losbter sashimi was stunning. A fabulous experience all around. Highly recommended. Plus, Annie is a wonderful waitperson!

New management?? Better than ever.
Perfect setting for a friend and I to catch up. We dined al fresco , the food and service were excellent. Couldn't have been better! I've been to Sushi Ko many times, but noticed right away that the Hostess staff is more friendly and attentive than in the past. Christine, our waitress, was also attentive, yet patient. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made suggestions. We didn't feel rushed to decide on our meal but she was ready if we were trying to move things along. She brought the manager in when she couldn't answer a question. The manager was responsive and afterwards it was clear he had informed the staff of the situation. They, too, checked with me to ensure resolution and satisfaction. A very enjoyable evening.

Unbelievably great sashimi!
Chef Handry has the best sashimi I've ever had! His otoro (fatty tuna) melts in your mouth, and the escolar (butter fish) is amazingly rich. They also have ankimo now too -- steamed monkfish liver, which may not be to everyone's taste, but I love it. Totally amazing place. Just sit at the bar and ask Chef to do his thing.
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Expensive, but fresh fish
The place is expensive, but it is better than most so-called sushi places. It's also very large. When is the DC area going to have more than just the handful of decent sushi places?
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great sushi at a reasonable price
We've had great sushi in Japan and California, and we were impressed by our first visit to Sushi-Ko. The sushi was fresh, and the "fatty" tuna and salmon melted in your mouth. The prices were very good, especially if you get the sushi or sashimi combo (not so much if you go a la carte, but still very reasonable). The one thing that we found strange for a sushi bar of this quality was the limited selection. No octopus, squid, or clam of any kind. It looks like they always carry the same fish--they've probably done the market analysis and figured out what works in the area, but a good sushi bar usually carries what's fresh that day. They went out of their way to make a special off-menu dish for my son, which he said was the best dinner ever!

Consistently good chirashi
We can always count on Sushiko for a good chirashi. The quality and taste are consistent, even though it's not the best we've had. It's also nice that there is parking for the restaurant
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sushi Ko is a great spot in both Glover Park and Chevy Chase. I am obsessed with the Tuna jalapeno and seaweed salad - the ginger dressing is amazing!!!
7/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good but we've had better there ...
As Sushi-Ko regulars, we enjoyed this most recent dinner but not as much as previous visits. The normally spectacular element rolls, for example, looked and tasted as if they had been made hours before.
8/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another amazing dinner!
Sushi Ko never disappoints! Its interesting and creative menu, plus sushi that is out of this world are why I will continue to return to this restaurant again and again.
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Local Sushi
Everyone in the DC Area should drop by Sushi Ko and enjoy a meal. Easy parking, great food, wonderful atmosphere.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
LIve Sea Urchin (Uni)!!
We had live lobster sashimi and live uni sashimi. Simply amazing stuff. The escolar is fabulous also. Chef Handry does amazing stuff at the sushi bar, and Annie is a wonderful wait person. The wine list is small, but well-chosen to complement the stellar cuisine. Even if you're not into raw fish, there are plenty of cooked dishes to satisfy all appetites. Highly recommended.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to-- and that includes top places in NYC and San Francisco. Original presentations, wonderfully fresh fish and imaginative specials. I love this restaurant. Service is friendly and prompt-- altogether a delightful dining experience.

A gem in Chevy Chase
Had dinner with my New York daughter at Sushi Ko last night and she of the Brooklyn hotspots was impressed.
The food at Sushi Ko --we ordered several of the special dishes, including the yellow tail sashimi in a delicate grapefruit sauce with a sliver of jalapeno. Delicate is the operational world. The chef's palate is delicate, piquant even. His presentations, maginative, without being over the top.
Our waiter was kind, knowledgeable and self contained--answers questions with s and then shuts up.
The ambiance (restaurant design) is pretty unobtrusive, but bleccchhh. Why do even the best Washington, DC restaurants look so corporate?
As far as I am concerned, there is no better food in the Chevy Chase/Bethesda area.
8/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Live Uni (sea urchin)!
Chef Handry sometimes scores sashimi from Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market, and the stuff is positively amazing. Woo hoo! We had live Uni, live lobster, and some phenomenal fin fish sashimi as well. Absolutely amazing experience.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
one of the best sushi places
We went there for our anniversary dinner and were delightfully surprise of the overall experience.
We order two appetizers, miso soup and seaweed salad, they were both good, seaweed salad comes two ways, which was pretty yummy.
We had a few rolls, spicy tuna, cucumber a special roll that was recommended by the waiter and the himachi roll. All of them were very yummy, rice temperature was perfect, fish really fresh.
I had a Peartini, usually Im not a big fan on Martinis but this one won me over, perfect balance and not overpowering sweetness made this drink a perfect accent for my dinner.
We will be back for sure.
Complimentary desert for our anniversary dinner was very thoughtful and yummy end of a very nice dinner.

perfect stop for late summer lunch
I visitede SushiKo for lunch after another appointment in the vicinity. What a treat to myself! The meal was excellent, service was attentive but unobtusive, and outdoor seating allowed me to enjoy the splendor of a perfect late summer/early fall day!
9/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
Best sashimi ever!
This place just keeps getting better. Outstanding sashimi -- the best I've ever had anywhere -- straight from Tokyo's famed Tsukiji market. The cooked dishes are fabulous too. Try the Burikama (roasted yellowtail collar) and eat it paleo-style just like ribs. Yum.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Try the dinner special!
I tried the dinner special, a fixed price four course meal, with my friends. It was a great way o try things I might not normally go for. What a great choice! I'll be back and will be hoping that's an option again!
9/16/2013 5:00:00 PM
Not cheap but always fresh, interesting and nicely done
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good, but...
We both had the sashimi assortment and rate it barely very good, and far from excellent. There are better options for sashimi in the area at comparable prices.
9/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
Our favorite for sushi...
The veggie tempura & tuna "element rolls" were first rate. Also much appreciated is the fact that in the numerous times we've been to this restaurant with a reservation, we've never had to wait more than one minute for a table. Alassa, our server, was excellent.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Sushi and Soft Shells
The best soft shells in the area at both Chevy Chase and the original location. Always a great selection of fresh fish for sushi.
It's not cheap but nothing this good ever is.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good Sushi in Friendship Heights
Sushi Ko in Friendship Heights has some of the best sushi in the area. The décor is superior, more trendy than the original SushiKo in Glover Park. Food is equal. Special lunch menu for $22 is a good choice.
10/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
My girlfriend and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was good, we eat a fair amount of sushi and considered it to be fresh and tasty. The service was okay, our server actually left without saying bye or informing us that we would have to finish our ordering from the bar. We would probably go again.
10/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Yet another amazing dinner!
Sashimi doesn't get any better than this. The live scallops and the uni (sea urchin) were spectacular, and the mussel-miso soup is the perfect thing to have when it's cold and dreary out like now!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
I was very pleased with the freshness of the sushi and its ingredients! Very tasty!
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sashimi with surgical precision!
We had yet another splendid dinner at Sushiko Chevy Chase. Chef Handry wields his sushi knife with surgical precision, and his creations never fail to amaze. Mo at the bar is a treasure as well. This time we also had some cooked dishes, like the miso Chilean Sea Bass, which was fabulous!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sushiko is consistently good. I always get the chirashi. The fish is fresh and delicious. But be aware that Sushiko chirashi is just fish and rice; it doesn't have the pickled veggies that chirashi often includes. So you'll have to order some veggies on the side. Pleasant service and relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy!
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a treat!
We had the usual amazing assortment of Chef Handry's special creations, but one of us ordered the beef entree; I avoid red meat, but everyone else said it was the best beef they'd ever had -- better than in any steak house they'd been to. Wow!
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Engawa (as I learned!) is sashimi made from fluke fin, and Chef Handry's preparation is sensational. There isn't much available on any given night, but the engawa and the burikama (salt-grilled yellowtail collar) are some of the most phenomenal things I've eaten anywhere. Woo hoo!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always the freshest fish and
Always the freshest fish and most creative dishes.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Super *cooked* seafood this time!
My dining companion doesn't do raw seafood, so we had the crabmeat/frisee/persimmon/asian pear/pomegranate salad, Burikama (seared yellowtail jaw), and seared lobster, and it was all sensational, of course!
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Extraordinary sashimi, once again
We go to Sushiko Chevy Chase about once a week, usually sitting at the sushi bar. Chef Handry (sushi bar) and Chef Edwin (kitchen chef) never cease to amaze with their phenomenal creations. Highly recommended. The burikama is spectacular! YUM!!
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
A little treat
We were here for our anniversary and greatly enjoyed our meal. The ambience was quiet and simple. The wait staff was just a little too attentive, asking us every 2 -3 minutes if we were ready to order. The food was served promptly and presented beautifully. The hot sake was not warm enough, but was quickly remedied. We had both the mushroom miso soup and the lobster asparagus miso soup and both were excellent. The grilled octopus salad was full of flavor and enough for two to share as an appetizer. The fish was fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth wonderful in our sushi dinners. A good value for the food received, and a wonderful treat!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fun night, great service, bit noise
First time to this location and wanted a bit of intimacy for a two. The food was nice and seemed to use some fusion techniques /we were looking for lots of suisi and was gladly surprise with the fun of the variety mixture of folks (including families) 20s,30s,business folks, and couples. We had excellent service! Nice place in nice part of town but not traditional Japanese suisi house.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
More fabulous sashimi
I dine at Sushiko Chevy Chase most Friday evenings at the sushi bar, and always enjoy every dish--expertly prepared by Chef Handry. Chef Edwin in the kitchen does a remarkable job with cooked dishes, especially the Burikama and miso cod -- both outstanding! I love this place.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was very good as advertise. Service was outstanding and very professional. I would definitely go back.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
After living in Asia for the past two decades I've become somewhat of a snob about Asian restaurants in the area. The food (sushi, sashimi) at Sushi Ko is the highest quality we've had since returning to the US. The service staff is friendly and attentive. The only draw to this restaurant is if you get seated in the large separate dining area which is dull and ruins the feel of a real Japanese restaurant. Just ask to be relocated to Sushi Bar or the dining area on that level. Small issue just ask to be moved and enjoy a really fine dining experience.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very good, but pricey
We were out for dinner with another couple. Everything we had was excellent, but I got up from the table ready to have another meal.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food, reasonably quiet
It was easy to make an online reservation and even request a quiet table, which we actually got. The food was very tasty and nicely arranged.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Extra good service made a 5* meal
We're Sushi Ko regulars for good reason -- reliably pristine sushi and well-paced table service. The salmon tartare with caviar was delicious though, oddly, it came with only one cracker. Our excellent waitress cheerfully supplied some extras and also came through with some complimentary edamame when the kitchen got a bit backed up on tempura orders.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Engawa -- flounder fin!
Chef Handry's latest gem is Engawa, which is flounder-fin topped with Uni (sea urchin). We were a table of five, and each had a serving of Engawa, and it was sensational. Wow!
12/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Lobster Sashimi! Wow!
Chef Handry made us lobster sashimi, which I'd never had before. It's not on the menu, but if you sit at the sushi bar and ask for it, he can probably make it. The other dish we had that was stunning is the soft crab kara-age. Utterly fabulous. I love this place, and eat here probably once a week. Highly recommended.
6/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Sashimi from Tsukiji market
The chef told me that he sources sashimi from Tokyo's Tsukiji Market. Seafood doesn't get much better or more authentic than this. Absolutely amazing and inventive dishes like live uni and live lobster sashimi. I come here probably once a week, and I continue to be amazed every time. The wine list has some really unusual and interesting choices as well. Highly recommended!

The *best* sashimi I've ever had
We were a party of five, and had the buri kama (roasted yellowtail jaw) with Riesling, and then some phenomenal sashimi with red Burgundy. The mackerel and uni (sea urchin) were stellar. Major kudos to Chef Handry for sourcing such amazing fish. Annie is a wonderful, knowledgeable waitress!
