Spring has sprung!
wonderful opportunity to experience 1770 during Hampton Restaurant Week and enjoyed selections from the prix fixe menu. Baby spinach salad followed by The Scottish salmon were both excellent, accompanied by a fine glass of Malbec. My partner for dinner, she selected the carrot soup and the monkfish with lobster, a favorite of hers, along with the Sancere, bon appetit! We were served by the most capable and attentive 1770 dining room staff. A delightful evening especially since Spring has finally arrived. Our palettes were treated to the grand cuisine crescendo of our pleasnt time together by the molten chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla, to die for. Enjoyed exploring the cozy confines of the Tavern after dinner.

Amazing Food, a little Quiet !
The food here is outrageous ! Everything on the menu will not disappoint ! If they have the Duck I recommend it. Also as a special Fluke Tartare - best out here ! Really you won't be disappointed with whatever you order. The service is very good and non intrusive. My only complaint is it's an older crowd and every time we go it seems like everyone is listening to our conversation. Maybe we are always just having too much of a good time. Seems like no one else is talking, just listening ! Oh Well.

As always, dinner here was
As always, dinner here was a pleasure! We dined during Hamptons Restaurant Week, and it was a delicious and great value. The restaurant was full and the food was the same as ever, top notch. We each started with a fennel, beet and soaked cherry salad, which was an interesting combination and so tasty. Our entrees were salmon and chicken, each well dressed with appropriate sides. Molten chocolate cake and coconut sorbet for dessert, along with a very good Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willammette Valley. An excellent meal at a lovely, historic place!

We always love 1770 House,
We always love 1770 House, especially the main dining room. Some new items have freshened up the menu, but the old standbys are still there. In a sea of Hamptons mediocrity , this always stands out as an oasis of taste and calm. Though very expensive, it delivers on both food, ambiance and service.
If you aren't claustrophobic and dont mind going into a subterranean cellar for more casual fare, the tavern dowsntairs is popular as well with a simpler menu, and also kid-freindly.

Excellence expected and delivered
For all our special occasions we go to 1770 House when in the Hamptons. Went on Mother's Day this year and as usual the experience was terrific. Great food, good bottle of wine, attentive and professional staff. What else is there to ask from a restaurant? Simply the best in the Hamptons.

1770 is a very,very,very fine house
Service, food and atmosphere was wonderful. I had the scallops, which had great flavor. My husband had the lamb chops that he ate down to the bone (that's how good they were). The ricotta cheese cake was out of this world. One of my favorite eateries in the Hamptons and it never fails to impress me time and time again. Well done!

First time diners
Went with friends who have been visiting the Hamptons for many years. They were unfamiliar with the restaurant and somewhat skeptical. We had a wonderful meal beginning with the warm sourdough rolls. The fluke tartar and pea and asparagus starters were great. Even better was the halibut. And without doubt the lamb chops were spectacular. There was no room for dessert. Will definitely be back.

Not up to its usual level
Not up to its usual level on the 4th of July, but still good. Rolls overdone, salmon flavorless. It would be nice to have more affordable wines.

A Delightful Celebration
My husband and I dined at 1770 House to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary. We had a wonderful meal. The food was exquisite! Our server, Alex, delivered incredible service. He made great recommendations on appetizers and wine. He helped make our evening quite special. I was also impressed with the quaint, romantic setting of the restaurant. I love the low-lighting, candle lit dinner table and the intimate ambiance. It was an unforgettable evening!

Overall - a 10 out of 10
Lovely and delicious. Very positive dining experience. We loved out food, could hear our friends so a nice conversation was easy and the service was super. Not easy to find a place like this in the Hamptons, on a summer weekend.

Quintessential Hamptons Experience
I brought my grandparents, mom, and aunt here on their first trip to the Hamptons and they loved it. The setting is idyllic and the service was very attentive. I ordered the beet salad, which I loved, and the halibut, which was cooked perfectly. Everyone else ordered fish as well and was pleased.

New England in the Hamptons
Still one of the nicest places to have great food in a civilized setting. The setting is nice and serene and with the fire places in each room it's like a nice old inn in the country. Don't expect all the Hamptons craziness. I think the chef may have changed since their standard things like 3 types of bread are down to 1. Regardless the food and service are still excellent. Prices are high if not higher than before. Two entrees and one dessert and tea --$100+.The price fixe is no longer needed I was told since business is so good. What recession, right? Summer or winter, they maintain a good standard. Definitely for a more mature crowd or couple. The tavern downstairs livelier -a diff menu. Outside is peaceful.

Franey was the best waitress eva!!!
The food was amazing! Franey was amazing! and the whole experience was amazing!

Unique restaurant, great food!
Take their name literally, this is truly a house! You will feel like your table is in the middle of a living room! The restaurant is in a house and nothing about the interior layout will make you feel otherwise. The service was excellent, and no complaints on the food. Fluke tartare is a must. We really loved the halibut as an entree, and the strawberry bouche was a delicious and light dessert. We would definitely go back!

My wife and I ate here on
My wife and I ate here on the evening of August 19th on the patio and it was just a remarkable experience. The setting on the patio was gorgeous. Food from top down the food was excellent. I started with the fluke tartare, which my wife unfortunately could not partake in due to pregnancy. Instead she had a salad with tomatoes that were unforgettable. The tartare was terrific and plentiful--certainly sized to share. For a main course I took the waiter's recommendation and went with the rack of lamb which is a no-brainer if rack of lamb is your thing. My wife had the halibut, which was outstanding. The whole night was dining at the very top level. A true must.

Great restaurant experience
My wife and I were very happy to experience great food, and an excellent wine, in a calm and pleasant setting. The waiter, Alex, was unobtrusive, yet very attentive, and responsive. The maitre de was friendly, and set the tone for a wonderful dinner.

The courtyard is the place
In summer ask for a table in the courtyard behind the restaurant. Beautifully lit with stunning trees and a gently trickling fountain.
Service was perfect, competent and friendly.

This was our second visit to 1770 House, our first being last year and it was just as superb this time. We sat at the very same table (a coincidence) as last year too! We shared a starter of Prosciutto and our mains were fantastic, chicken and rack of lamb. The chicken was delicious, moist and tender. My rack of lamb, without question was the best I have ever had, it was cooked pink and simply melted in the mouth. An excellent all round experience with great service from our waiter.

I have dined all over the world & 1770 House was an incredible experience. My dinner was absolutely delicious.
The scallops were probably the best ever for me.
As a single diner, I was treated fabulously by the well trained staff.
What a wonderful place!
9/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
You can't beat what the 1770 house has to offer. It's a poshy step back in time. My only problem with it is I feel like their menu changed and there's nothing special about it. It was hard to order with such a beige menu.

On 9/27 I made a reservation
On 9/27 I made a reservation on OpenTable at 6:45PM for 9/28. I forgot to write a comment requesting the downstairs, bar room. I called the restaurant, shortly after receiving the OpenTable confirmation and spoke with a young woman. She said that we could have a table for 2 in the bar room if we dined at 6:15PM. I re-called and spoke to a man and asked if we could be seated at 6:30. He said that the table was reserved for a seating at 8PM. I assured him we would be finished by 7:45. He agreed. We arrived at 6:35 and were directed to the other downstairs room. I said "no, we have a confirmed reservation for the bar room." The woman was rude and brusque and blew us off, the man who was the manager stated "we don't guarantee seating."

Best Food in the Hamptons
It can be difficult in the Hamptons to find a restaurant that focuses on serving excellent food, as opposed to trying to jump on the latest trend or become the next hot spot for people watching. 1770 House is that restaurant. After years of trying restaurants in the Hamptons (including the welcome addition of Topping Rose House), I believe 1770 House serves the best food in the Hamptons.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
My wife and I had the salmon and the grouper and can easily say that the food, service and ambiance of the 1770 House was outstanding. We will definitely return.

OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE
1770 House is our all time favorite restaurant anywhere. And we have been all over the world.
THe food is amazing, the wine less is excellent, with a broad range of excellent choices..
The ambiance is comfortable and soothing but not too informal.
The service is excellent and pleasing and we know the wait staff.
Don't change anything. Consistently THE best restaurant in East Hampton and these parts overall.

The restaurant week menu was
The restaurant week menu was very, very good. The wine list is not inexpensive, but of high quality. My wife found the beet salad to be outstanding. I gave the same ranking to the salmon. The service was excellent and we were never rushed, even though we lingered a bit. All in all, a delightful evening.
P.S. If one wants any negative, it was that the sourdough rolls were a tad overdone.
