Great place to go to.
We had a reservation for 1 pm and arrived there around 12:15. They accomodated us right away. The wine was excellent and so was the food. Service was great, pleasant and we enjoyed our time there.

3rd times a charm
Nicks Cove always delivers: if there is a mistake they take care of it with such generosity of spirit, you, the guest are always taken care of. food is always wonderful, service is always great.
This generosity of spirit is what keep us coming back, it really is prevalent in every thing they do.

We truly enjoyed our dinner
We truly enjoyed our dinner and lunch. The food was excellent. If you have had mixed experiences in the past, as we have, all is well now. Do not hesitate to return. Dean, the manager, seems to have things well in hand. Our service was very good. If you enjoy wine, be sure to talk with Dean about his wine list; he know his wines and the back stories behind each. Also, don't miss "Wine Wednesday" when all wines are half off.

Great music on locals night
Loved it. Banana of the Youngbloods played a great set. Stayed all the way through. Memorable. Special.

We've been going there for decades, but since Kuleto upgraded it, itnis the class of the area. A fun spot.

Good food in rustic setting
We enjoyed cocktails and a late leisurely lunch overlooking Tomales Bay. Started with both raw and barbecued oysters. Wonderful. Great Mac and Cheese - with crab - and fantastic crab sandwich. Next time we'll order food and drinks and sit in the old shack at the end of the pier. And a s'more to roast on the wood fire in the shack. Romantic

Five stars is not enough!
I have never been disappointed in any meal I have ordered from here. My last dinner was exceptional!!! Wagyu Beef is to die for!!! We love this place and have been returning every year for 6+ years. Thank you Nick's Cove for wonderful dining and comfortable cottages to sleep in.

Evening meal near the water.
My wife and I enjoyed the experience. Staff was helpful, funny, and engaging. The food was fantastic. My wife who has never really understood the draw of oysters enjoyed the Baked Oyster mornay. And the lamb and pork dishes were cooked to order and served with vegetables freshly picked from their garden. I highly recommend getting a table near the window so you can enjoy the beautiful view of Tomales Bay.

We were visiting the area on our west coast trip and decided to take the Pacific Coast highway. We heard Nicks was good and had local flavor and decided to give it a try. Our food was excellent and the service outstanding. My husband loved the oysters and I loved the grilled romaine Caesar salad and crab cakes. Excellent!

Love Nick's!!! Great for the seafood lover, it's a fun friendly atmosphere where I always feel like its my neighborhood hang out. And if you don't like seafood, they have a great primerib! Fridays and Saturdays have proven to be great date nights there with live music and a dance floor. Go for the food and enjoy the beautiful view!

On our last trip to SF we did a day trip up north and had dinner at Nick's Cove. The food was fantastic. We love eating at unique places that serve good quality foods. We couldn't be in oyster country without ordering oysters, so we started off will a nice sample. We than had the crab mac n cheese which was the best we had ever had. We ordered our main entree off the special for the evening and it was well worth it. Then came the dessert the cream cheese semifreddo was delightful. We will make reservations next year when we return.
7/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a late lunch with friends that gelled all the elements of a memorable meal: great wine and food (oysters raw & bbq'd, Crab Louis, an outstanding Voignier, and an amazing crab mac-and-cheese), a spectacular setting on Tomales Bay, and sparkling conversation with our wonderful companions. And it felt earned by a long hike beforehand in Pt Reyes, where we saw a red fox. It doesn't get any better, and I'll be ever grateful to Nicks Cove and its chefs and wait staff for a truly gorgeous experience.

Even for jaded locals who are spoiled by all the bounty of West Marin Nick's is a great place. Because we are locals we drive a lot but we think that going to Nick's is worth it for a special treat.

Excellent food and drink
A very enjoyable few days with excellent oysters, wine, martinis, seafood, and views. The staff were very friendly. Although we made dinner reservations, they were not necessary as there were plenty of empty table. The local wine was a bit overpriced (when you could purchase the same bottle from the vineyard directly for half the price charged at Nick's), but it was excellent and worth every penny. I am already planning the next trip.

Local oysters, distant oysters..
Nick's offers oysters from Tomalas Bay as well as from distant waters...on the half shell or with several wrappings. Crab is also available in crab cakes (small and tasty) and crab mac and cheese (larger serving than I anticipated). Well priced beers (about $6) and wines ($11 or so by the glass). The entrees were in the $15-$19 range.

Always a treat!
I have been to Nick's with small, medium, and large groups and have never had anything less than a superb meal and service!

A very quaint seaside (actually on the inside of Tomales Bay) restaurant with a gorgeous view. Our waiter, Kenneth, was amazing. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. He seemed to really have a good time with us, and it was truly appreciated. The oysters are amazing. We got an order of the BBQ'd and the Oysters 'Nick-a-feller' and both were delicious. Our entrees were served hot and perfectly cooked. I had the Halibut and she had the Sea Bass. This is a great place to stop as you take a nice drive up Highway 1 and we defintely plan on making it a regular stop. They also have cottages and we would love to spend the night there someday.

Delightful and unique. A real gem Great view. The food was great especially the bbcue oysters. Waitress very friendly and pleasant. Food service was pretty slow on a busy Saturday night but we were having a special occasion and the two of us were enjoying each others company. My only suggestion would be for waitress to check back a couple times to see if everything's ok and to say the kitchens backed up. I think in general sometimes bigger parties get attended to more. But still we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the evening.

great for seafoodies!
We loved the food. Not a fan of their smoked sturgeon I guess, but all the rest: scallops, smoked fish, cauliflower. cocktails were great.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
My love and I were completely moved by our dining experience last Thurdsay night. Granted, we are hopelessly in love but the atmosphere mached our feelings in every way. We will never forget that night. Hoping to marry her there next year.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nick's Cove still great!
We had a wonderful evening, one only Nick's Cove can turn on. A great atmosphere, with a great view of Tomalas Bay, shrouded in mist. Then came the food, every mouthful a journey. Nick's was a perfect place for our 2nd anniversary.

Amazing Food + Great Service
We came here for our 25th wedding anniversary and chose to have the chef's tasters menu. It was a five course meal, all chef's choice and I can honestly say it was the best meal I've ever had. Every dish was to die for. So sad we live so far away. Can't wait to come back. In addition to the amazing food, our waiter was stupendous. He answered at length all of our questions that I'm sure he gets every night - history of Nick's Cove, Hog Island, oyster business, etc. Then top that off with an amazing view. It was a perfect evening for such an important celebration.

They had some problems in the kitchen being a busy weekend but they were very nice and gave us extra starters to fill in. I'm sure at most times it's great.

Don't miss it !
Great experience and wonderful extra service too ; left behind a wine cooler and extra bottle of wine . The staff looked up my phone number and left me a nice message about the belongings, and offered to ship it to my home. Great extra effort on their part.
Food is wonderful and Nick's is great for Any occasion !

cozy with a view
This place far exceeded my expectations. We were looking for some place with a view and quiet. That is what we got until 2 large parties came in after us. This place is not that small. They should have seated them elsewhere as it made talking to each other very difficult. We had the clam chowder. It was thick and delicious and it came in a good size bowl, not a cup. Also had plenty of bacon which put it over the top. For dinner I had the Salmon which tasted wood fired. It was really good but maybe not quite cooked thru in 1 small part. I would order it again. My husband was in heaven with the Crab Louie. It had a lot of crab and beautifully presented. We shared 2 deserts that were incredible. We will return but ask for a quiet table?

Great food, service and view....
Nick's Cove was a recommendation from friends and we had never been there, so we took friends from out of town there and we all just raved about it. Portions were perfect for what we wanted to eat, the view was great and the weather perfect for mid-September, an all around perfect place to eat while traveling up the coast.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
worth the drive
Wonderful view of the lake and the setting sun. Good quality fare and friendly welcome.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Since the change of ownership this is our first visit. The menu was more limited than I expected but for a Wed lunch time ok. The half price wine was a bonus! I think it is worth another visit around the weekend.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a birthday brunch here
We had a birthday brunch here on a gorgeous Saturday, and the restaurant fit the bill perfectly. A great view and open feel suited the beautiful Tomales Bay site, the food was very good--especially the crab risotto, the mixed oyster platter--and a good wine list. Desserts were a treat, as you might expect. Service was good and friendly. Nick's Cove provided a fine spot for our celebration. Expensive, but well worth it. We'd return.

Weekend in Tomales Bay
Our table had a really pretty view, the restaurant was nicely decorated, the food was tastey and the waiters were helpful and friendly. Definitely recommendable!!

peace, beauty, and oysters
As a bday surprise, I wanted to take my fiance for a long leisurely lunch somewhere that felt like we were not in the Bay Area and also that served oysters. He wanted oysters for his bday. Most of the great oyster places in the North Bay make you shuck yourself. I didn't want to do this.
I wanted to bring our teeny dog along with us and found out that the outside tables are dog friendly, including the old fishing shack, which is where I wanted for us to sit. While you have to serve yourself, it's worth it. You're in the middle of Tomales Bay...sun, quiet, view, and great oysters! We tried every kind they had both raw and cooked. We also had the crab mac & cheese and the truffled garlic fries. Total decadence!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great spot on the coast
I was a part of a group of 5 couples who rented a vacation house in Dillon beach last weekend; we made the 20-minute drive to Nick's Cove the first night and were all so glad we did. We were all impressed by the level of service and quality of food. I had the NY Strip and also tasted the crab cakes and deviled duck eggs, and we all shared the warm bittersweet chocolate cake and butterscotch pot de créme - EVERYTHING was delicious. And the our waiter was great - he was both professional and friendly. Highly recommend Nick's to anyone in the area!

Nick's Cove Restaurant
Excellent food & service. Be sure to bring a parka. And the lodging is wonderful including breakfast brought to your cottage.

Worth a Trip
I've been to Nick's Cove probably 20 times. The menu has changed recently and is obviously more seafood oriented. That's fine but the only thing that isn't seafood is the burger. I think there should be a couple of more options. The sides section of the menu is great. Wine by the glass, especially for red, is too pricey. I'm from Sonoma and many of our restaurants' wine prices are too expensive as well. So I got the Rose, which was reasonably priced. My fish and chips were very good and the cauliflower appetizer with the ham was quite tasty. Our waiter was wonderful.

Try the tasting menu paired with wine. Excellent service. Portions are a bit large. Pulled rabbit was tasty

We have been coming to Nick's
We have been coming to Nick's Cove for years, in fact, when Nick ran the place. Today, it has evolved from the fisherman's lunch stop, where we would launch our boats, to an upbeat, foodie's delight, fun with a great dining experience for lunch or dinner!
Nick's Cove Restaurant is a destination! we come from Contra Costa County, over 100 miles roundtrip, for lunch! We meet with local friends there and spend quality time with the ultra friendly, courteous staff, bartenders and servers, who obviously enjoy their working experience at Nick's Cove!

Way above the norm
Nick's Cove makes dining out an outstanding treat. You know for sure that the food is going to be absolutely top notch, so the anticipation of the drive and then the fine dining in a beautiful setting makes the day an especially special one.

We've been coming to Nicks for over 6 years & have met many of the restaurant staff & a few of the managers during that time. We've now met our favorite - Tavez! Saturday night we had a wonderful meal & all of the service was first rate - from the hostesses, bartender, busboys and our server, Tavez. He is exactly what I love about a good server - friendly, personable, engaged, helpful and knowledgable. And, when you add to that, how welcoming & warm he is, you have the BEST server. My husband & I agree on this.

Gem at the waterfront
We love the (sea)food, service and location. Perhaps a bit out of the way and off the beaten path, but for us this only adds to the charm of the place and it's well worth a detour! We visit the Bay Area twice a year from Singapore and a visit is not complete without dinner or lunch at Nick's Cove.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Must stop at Nick's!
What a perfect place for a Sunday lunch of clam chowder, a fresh array of oysters and a beer. I can't wait to go back. The entire menu looked so delicious. Great basics with a fresh twist.
