It was a perfect evening, the company, the food and especially my table, in front of the fireplace, nice and toastie !!! Loved everything about the Blue Grotto Restaurant.

Used LivSocial deal for 4 crs dinner for 2 - excellent meal & deal. Food was excellent, service good, free valet parking is a very nice touch (as is the complimentary biscotti placed in the car upon departure!). We will return to check out the reg menu.

I thought the entire Wine
I thought the entire Wine Tasting Event was great, we all enjoyed. I just wish they had started on time. We arrived early at 6:00PM...expecting a 6:30 start time, the event did not get underway until 7:00PM. It appears they were waiting for people who were LATE in arriving but that was not fair to everyone else who arrived promptly. If you have a START time, the you should START ON TIME.

Good food - great service
The food was excellent and the service was also great! The cioppino was delicious and
plentiful - and came with some lobster! My husband loved the filet, cooked perfectly, with a lump crabcake that was also tasty. Our waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive when necessary. We would recommend the Blue Grotto for any occasion. We did not feel rushed at all!!!

2nd time try
first time we went it was a disaster - food cold - server unfriendly - reserved for window got sat a a table for ten there was 2 of us. then we received a $100 gift certificate gave it another try it was absolutely fantastic - server was super = food was great and hot - window seat was great an it was only a table for us. would definetly go back again with others. glad we went back !!!!!

Great food, great service = great experience.
My wife and I and another couple went to The Blue Grotto for the first time this weekend and we really enjoyed it. The service was great, the waiter was there whenever we needed anything, but not hovering, and very polite and friendly. We had a variety of dishes and all were fantastic.

After several mediocre experiences
After several mediocre experiences with dinner we decided to use a Groupon for brunch. We were pleasently surprised. Service was excellent. Interesting choices. I picked Eggs Benedict with tomato and Mozzerella with a Balsamic glaze rather than Canadian Bacon. All Benedict's come on Focascia bread which gave an incredible taste but I did have to request a steak knife to cut the bread. Spouse's Steak &Eggs came done precisely as ordered. Pricing: 18.00 for buffet plus entre we're fair. 10.00 for just the buffet would have been overpriced. Buffet was sparce as stand-alone but fine as accompaniment. Odd rendition of breakfast sausage, More aligned with sausage and peppers found at a street festival but, then again, I hate peppers.

Appetizers were a bruschetta trio and a salume e formaggi, both of which were so simple and yet so delicious. Entrees were the Sweet Potato Gnocchi with brandy cream sauce and Risotto Al Golfo (Native scallops, Gulf shrimp, Prince Edward Island mussels & baby clams, simmered with cherry tomatoes and folded with our house made basil pesto risotto). Entrees were also excellent.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this restaurant for their superb cuisine at very reasonable prices

very efficient friendly staff. charming rooms with large windows for an al fresco feel.
brunch for six was several benedicts with great hollandaise, frittata was okay, omelettes good. potatoes outstanding.
attentive server, not too pricey. it's all good at the grotto, will go back for dinner.

Still solid after all these years.
I used to go to the Blue Grotto when I attended college in Providence. Now 30 years later, I went there during my reunion weekend.
The experience was just as pleasant and the food was very good. It's a traditional Italian restaurant with a intimate feeling, despite its size. The decor is a bit outdated, but that adds to its charm. It was like a familiar friend.

Best Veal Chop EVER
Blue Grotto is a worthy Federal Hill player. I've had a lot of veal chops in my time, and Blue Grotto's was literally the BEST VEAL CHOP I have ever had. Everything we ate was fabulous.

Beautiful atmousphere. Our servver was Ok. We were a party of 3 and informed him we would be sharing our individual dishes, When the entrees were served there were no serving utensils additionaly my utensils were removed with my appitizer plate. He returned with 1 spoon. I went to an empty table to get additional utensils.
The sea bass was amazing one of the best I have had. The lasagna made with eggplant againone of the best ever. The chicken marsella not on the menue but made for us was ok. The sauce was delicous but the chicke itself was generic in flavor and texture.

Service was excellent; our calmari was very good and our waiter brought us a side of maranara per my husband's request. For our dinner he chose the lobster ravioli topped with a "butter-poached" lobster claw and I ordered the Seafood Scampi which was supposed to be gulf shrimp with a butter-poached lobster piece. I should have asked what size the shrimp were- I am used to gulf shrimp to be atleast large (25-30) or bigger - these were probably 45-50 and over-cooked. My husband's ravioli was wonderful. However both of us agreed that the poached lobster claw was over-done and not alot of flavor. The dessert tray was fantastic - we had a chocolate torte that we shared. Great wine list and good pour...nice night.

Right on Atwells Ave., so good if you like the busy atmosphere on a Fri or Sat night.
Food was pretty good... a little pricey for pasta, but I think that is typical for many of the restaurants on Federal Hill in Providence.
We went there before heading downtown for Fire on the Water... so worked out well.

A nice dine
Overall good time at The Blue Grotto. Service and attention from the owner/manager was spectacular, reminiscent of some restaurants we visited in Italy. We all ordered from the prix fixe menu, 3 courses for $30. The arrancini, and the mozzarella frite were a treat. The steak and the salmon entrees were excellent. Portion sizes were very large.The ravioli was a bit disappointing; a bit al dente, the garlic and plum tomato sauce was not hearty enough, plate could have used another ravioli too. Desserts were very tasty.
Very high marks.
Free valet parking and a coupon for next visit and a biscotti left for us in the car.
Also really liked a phone call that morning confirming our reservation!

I like restaurant week set menus. Though I might spend more or less if I had lunch at Blue Gotto -- having a set lunch to look forward to was lovely.

I have experienced the Blue Grotto many times. I've participated in the Women of Wine evenings, company dinner, personal dinners and romantic evenings with my husband. I have never been disappointed. The food is delicious, the portions generous and the wait staff attentive. I could not have asked for a better evening.
Thank you to all the staff from the host to the valet.

I can't say enough good things
I can't say enough good things about this place The service and food was great ,We have taken our brother who has just retire. He was just shock the way the service and inter action with the waiter .The steak with shrimp with a mild sauce was out of this world ,And the appetizers.was different that we never had before .and the lobster ravioli in a special sauce tender and fresh.

Excellent birthday dinner experienc
My wife and I planned a quiet birthday celebration for a neighbor and his wife. On Monday night the restaurant was very quiet especially for our early reservation. Service was very good and appropriately laid back given the quiet evening. A shared calamari appetizer was excellent even by Rhode Island standards. Our waiter was very helpful when we asked about any off list wines and presented several alternatives but we ended up with the Gavi from the list and it was good enough that we had a second bottle. All of the entrees were excellent. The bronzini wiith vegetables cooked in parchment was especially notable.
We will return to Blue Grotto - very likely long before our friend and neighbor's next birthday!

I love this restaurant because the food is always delicious and the staff from valet to waiter are always extremely friendly and accommodating. The environment always reminds me of a function hall but it is the ONLY drawback.

Great food and service
Started out at the bar. Hostess and the woman bartender very friendly. Food and service was excellent. My husbands salmon came out a little less cooked then he wanted it and the waiter was so accommodating and he had his meal back in no time with an extra lobster tail. Manager even stopped at our table to make sure we were happy with everything. Great customer service!

We have eaten at the Blue Grotto several times now, and have never been disappointed. The service has been excellent and the food outstanding. I prefer the upstairs dining room to the one in the basement, and the ambience is fine, although not particularly outstanding. The food and the consistently good service will keep bringing us back, though.

Great restaurant but...
They didn't have our favorite...The Veal Chop. Our waiter was apologetic and gave us a free round of drinks but we came to Blue Grotto specifically for the Veal Chop!!!! It was a Wednesday night and he said they ran out on a Saturday. No excuse for that since it is one of their premiere menu items.
Our food was delicious but still want that Veal Chop!

Good traditional dinning
I had a party of 5 looking to eat on Federal Hil on this Saturday night, I searched Open Table and booked a reservation for 6:30. We arrived and I was a bit nervous the restaurant was empty. We sat and ordered drinks and appetizers. The staff was very pleasant and helpful with the specials and menus. I ordered two apps for all and it was more than enough.Two of my guests ordered variation off of the printed menu with no objections from the waitstaff or kitchen. The specialty drinks were very nice as we'll. By the time our meals were served the resteraunt had filled up. This place seems to be a late dinning spot. My party was very satisfied.

When I was initially making a reservation for dinner I wanted to go somewhere a little more modern not impressed with the photos they had displayed online and was kind of thinking this place would be so so. I am happy to say I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. They food was delicious. I found myself souping up the sauce in the gnocchi. The waitstaff were knowledgeable of the wines. Great experience and definitely will be returning.

Great lunch before PPAC
Noon reservation on a Saturday. The restaurant was empty, but it didn't matter because we ate outside to take in the sights and sounds of the Hill. All 3 courses were outstanding and the service was impeccable. First time visitor, but definitely planning on returning.

old Italian flavors
Calamari appetizer was very good although it hasn't served hot - only warm. Had the veal shank and Bolognese. Both were excellent. Only issue was the room temperature was low and the fireplace next to us didn't work so my wifr had to wear her coat during the meal.
