Friendly professional service.
Friendly professional service. Great food. Even though we all selected the daily lunch special our meals were somewhat slow to arrive. Good thing we were not on a tight timeline.

A mid week success
We happened to book on Wednesday, which is oyster night. We had a couple of dozen and could have made a meal of them.
Great martinis, and the first course selections were wonderful, so were shared as in a tapas bar. The mains were also delicious.
We had friends in from out of town, and they were wildly enthusiastic. They paricularly liked the tourtieres.

Took my mother here for early Mother's Day - could not have been better. Outstanding food, great service and a really nice, "happening" vibe to the whole place. Love the fact that the menu changes monthly.

My husband and I came here for our 2nd anniversary. Food was amazing. It also came very fast. Had the poutine for an appetizer - delicious. He had the lasagna and I had the gnocchi, both were phenomenal. Atmosphere is really nice, great location.
The only somewhat negative thing is we felt a little rushed. Our waitress had to wait on some big tables so she seemed more focused on them than us. She didn't offer us an appetizer to start with. Also my husband hadn't decided what he wanted for the main course, but I knew what I wanted. Usually the waitress will wait until both people have decided, but she was very quick to take my order and not wait for him. So I thought that was a little rude. But all in all, the food was amazing.

After having read all the reviews on line, we were not sure what to expect when we choose this restaurant. We arrived a bit early and were promptly greeted and asked if we would like to have a seat in the bar until our table was ready. We enjoyed a beverage and great service followed by being seated on time. the service was great! We happened to be at the restaurant on a Wednesday night. My husband enjoyed the oysters and myself the chicken liver starter. Both were to die for! the wine choice was excellent and the charcuterie was amazing. With these three dishes we were very satisfied and never ordered a main course. That seems to be what we do lately. Carly, thank you for your enthusiasm and making it a great evening for us!

Comfort Food to Die For!
We chose Peasant Cookery as the place to celebrate our 35th anniversary, because we love the food - especially the tourtiere - so much! We were amazed - and delighted - to find so many diners there on a Monday evening. We sat outside - even though it was quite cool, following a hailstorm. We shared a fantastic charcuterie plate. Then, although the lamb meatballs and pickerel both sounded delicious, and we had agreed en route to order something other than tourtiere, my husband simply HAD to have it. It - and the pickerel - were both excellent (although the pickerel was not a very filing meal - even for a small woman).

Peasant Cookery review
Lovely, spacious building in Winnipeg;s historic exchange. Service is excellent; we felt comfortable and relaxed. We are returning to try more dishes. The mussels in cheesy beer broth was an amazing starter as was the pickerel entree which was perfectly prepared - moist on the inside; crispy coated outside. Black bean ragout and house-made salsa accompaniments were freash and delicious. Our request to share both dishes was cheerfully accommodated. We (2 women with average appetites) did not leave hungry. Highly recommended.

Excellent from beginning to end....
This was our first visit to this restaurant. There were 5 of us in our group and all of us cleaned our plates clean (which I usually don't do). I had the gnocchi and it was melt in your mouth....the best gnocchi in Winnipeg. Very flavourful and the pickerel dish was described as that as well. I can't wait to go back. Highly recommend this restaurant. Service was great as well.

A frugle foodie's delight
This is my fifth visit to the Peasant, and it never disappoints. The food is not pretentious and has always been cooked to perfection. The wine list is respectable and loaded with good choices under $40.00. The service has been the standout time and again. From the moment you walk in the door this wonderful staff makes you feel at home.
My only criticism is the climate control in the restaurant, which is why I have to give three stars for ambiance. Depending on were you sit if can be very warm, or quite cold. The nice staff will be happy to relocate you, but another table is not always available, and it is a kind of a hassle.
Over all a great experience that is way above what I have come to expect from the WoW Restaurant establishment.

I was a little reluctant at first to try Peasant Cookery because of the reviews I read about the service. But, our server was great!!! Buck-a-shuck Wednesday is the best!!!!! The oysters tasted so fresh, the freshest in the city!!! I'd definitely go back again and again.

Peasant Cookery is a very nice restaurant and we celebrated our Anniversary there. The service was excellent and the food was great. I would definitely recommend it to our friends. The atmosphere is wonderful and the view from the windows reminded us of being in Europe, with the cobblestone sidewalks and the brick buildings all around. It was a great dining experience!

worth a return
The food was very good although the portion sizes were very generous in some choices...

Buck a shuck did not disappoint! Delicious oysters, mussels, and chicken livers! One of my favourite places in the exchange district of Winnipeg!! Great company and great wine!

overall very good but
There were 3 of us at a business luncheon; we started with charcuterie which could have used more condiments to go with the pates and meats. My companions meals, orzo topped with cheese and the pastrami sandwich topped with egg were both well received. I was disappointed with my choice of pappardelle with some sun dried tomatoes and other julienned veggies topped with cod, which was an odd pairing. It left an overall nasty taste in my mouth and I wished I had chosen more wisely, as in the past I have loved the beet salad and the daily specials.

We fit dinner in at The Peasant Cookery with friends before the Eagles concert. Our waiter expedited our meal to suite the timing...close enuff to MTS. Good appie assortment. Limited entre menu with one of every kind of meat/fish but we all enjoyed our meals thoroughly. The Char special was excellent as was the gnocchi, meat assortment and the chicken livers. They also customized a mussel sauce we requested....delicious!!!! Will return...

Ladies Loved Lunch
Our waitress was lovely. She provided the specials immediately and was well informed. Beverages were offered, cappuccino could have been hotter (but that's just me).l Everyone at our table enjoyed their selection. Beet salad was wonderful with a generous portion of beets. Crème Brule was excellent! Service was prompt which is important at lunch time. I will definitely try dinner and recommend lunch to my friends and co-workers.

Excellent meals, Chef!
Everyone at our table thought their meals were exceptional. Staff were personable and attentive. Found the room a bit too noisy the day we were there - with two large groups in the open restaurant.

You really can't go wrong with this gem. The service is always great and the food is superb. Wine prices are also reasonable.

Fantastic Food; great service!
We always enjoy the food at Peasant Cookery and last Saturday was no exception! French Onion soup as a starter had a great flavour and was perfect for a cold fall day. The gnocchi was beautifully decorated with roasted red pepper, spinach and sun dried tomato which made for an interesting and varied taste experience.
Food came out in a timely fashion - perfect for a pre-theatre dinner!

Myself and four of my closest friends had an amazing dinner at Peasant Cookery on Monday night. The service was outstanding. The staff really knew their wines and we liked every suggestion they made. I had the special which was a 10 ounce steak, finished with a parsley butter, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, carrots and parsnips. The beet salad was to die for, the five of us comfortably shared 2 orders. The aged cheddar gnocchi, the roasted chicken and the schnitzel were all just perfect.

Outstanding all around
We had a fabulous evening! Not only was the food delicious, but the table and host service was friendly, positive, and energetic. We took friends that had never been before and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Great for celebrations
I took my boyfriend to the Peasant Cookery for his very first time. We were celebrating his new job. I had been to Peasant Cookery once before, and I knew I had to bring him with me next time.
The entire evening was wonderful. The menu is not very large, but the food they do have is enough to not make you want anything more. We started off with sharing mussels and Frites and the onion soup. Both were to die for; the the cream the mussels were swimming in was sooo delicious. I want to the drink it out of the bowl (gross I know) - but that's usally a good sign ha ha. For our main course I had the beef ribs with masheh polenta. Boyfriend had the gnocchi - he wasn't too thrilled with it. Lacked flavour.
Stephen was a great waiter.

Dinner with Friends
The food is consistently very good to outstanding and the service is always excellent - staff are thoughtful without being intrusive. The wine selection is very good and staff are knowledgeable regarding grape varieties and what will make a great accompaniment to the meal.
I look forward to the return of the boeuf bourguignon, which is my all-time favourite.
The bar is a great place to unwind while waiting for your table if you arrive early.
Always great energy in the restaurant and bar.
One of my top five Winnipeg restaurants!

Enjoyable & special dining
As always we enjoyed our pre-theater dinner at Peasant Cookery. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It is nice also that the menu does not remain the same and there is always a new treat to try. As regular diners there, the innovative menu, food quality, and friendly service keep us returning. We fondly call it "our place!"
