Unusual breakfast dishes, nice setting near the windows by the pool, prompt service - only problem: the cappuccino was awful!

FIG: MY FAVE PLACE ON THE WEST SIDE
OSCAR is my absolute favorite waiter - all their wait staff should be trained by Oscar. Food is superb, atmosphere the best. Dining at Fig is a dining experience not to be missed. The acoustics are even spectacular. There was a huge party seated next to us, but we were able to converse without being disturbed. And, there was a private room on the other side of us, separated by only a curtain, and they were whooping it up, but they weren't a problem, either. Where else can you dine where you can have a private conversation and hear yourselves speak without having to say, "Huh, What?" constantly, because of the noise - and we had two huge parties on either side of us, and could hear just fine. THANK YOU AGAIN, FIG!

good fo food, bad for conversation
The food was innovative and quite good but the noise level made it necessary for us to shout to be heard. We would not go back because of the noise. we are all seniors.

Special occasion appropriate
It was my wife's birthday in the spring. A great time for a trip to a famous Santa Monica hotel with a modern "in" restaurant. Expensive, but very pleasant. Interesting and unusual beet salad, fine ocean trout (akin to salmon), pretty good wild mushroom risotto, excellent wine, excellent and unusual dessert. Service was excellent and adapted nicely to our request for a different table because of the sun's angle.

We came to the Fig and enjoyed Mother's Day! No expensive, pre-set menu, just the normal excellent breakfast burritos and chilaquiles were enjoyed by all! We even had the Chef, Ray Garcia, visit our table and bestow Morher's Day wishes. A wonderful and excellent choice!

Great for sunny afternoon
Everything on the menu sounded fantastic. Went for lunch and sat at an outdoor table. Everyone in the group was pleased with their meals. Love that there's free two hour valet at the hotel with validation. Will be coming back.

I took my parents here for brunch while they were in town. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely go there again!

We love Fig!
Fig not only has great seasonal dishes but the service is above and beyond consistently. Brian, the manager, was so attentive as was our server. We always have a great time there and having 5 star service definitely makes you want to return again and again. We are always Wowed by the service and how thoughtful and great the staff is overall. The drinks are also a MUST! Moscow mules are a favorite but seasonal specialty drinks always appeal. The food is seasonal and so we always have a chance to try new dishes.

The food overall, was very
The food overall, was very good. We enjoyed the asparagus, pork ribeye, wild mushroom risotto, brussel sprouts and strawberry tres leche. We did not care for the blistered little gems (which were way too bitter - we could barely eat this and wish we had sent it back) or the lemon dessert which was very mediocre.
Also, while we understand the restaurant is "happening", the music was so loud it was very difficult to have a converation.
Finally, the policy of charging $7 for bread which turns out is 2 large slices of bread, is a bit absurd. We waited a while for our appetizers, so we requested some bread in the meantime. The bread also took a while and finally got to the table when our appetizers did.

Fig Doesn't Falter
We took friends from Atlanta to brunch at Fig. They said it was the best meal they had during their stay in L.A. I had the corned beef chorizo hash and it was delicious, as was my bloody Maria!
6/1/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food, but.....
It is incredibly loud in there, to the point of distraction and irritation. Some acoustic ceiling buffers are DEFINITELY needed.

Noise, silence, indigestion
When noise levels are as high as they are at FIG, it either induces shouting or its opposite -- silence -- to keep from becoming so hoarse that you need lozenges for dessert. While the food was surprisingly good (it's a hotel restaurant, after all) and the service was remarkably attentive, the din was an unwelcome dinner guest who always got between us when we tried to converse (and we were seated in the restaurant's one and only alcove, which had curtains for privacy... instead of drapes for quiet). Would I recommend it to friends? I have no idea. I'd first have to know whether noise mattered to them. If not, then go -- the food and service are worth it. If yes, then no -- stay home and have children run around screaming, instead.

timing is everything
during prime time room temp, noise, glare, loud groups and lax parents may be too much for some. roar builds during "happy hour", so check before you book
weekday, fringe hours ideal to better enjoy delicious, creative, beautifully prepared dishes to please any palate. professional , top flight service much appreciated. kitchen very nice with special (veggie) requests when possible.

Not Hotel Food!
FIG is way better than most hotel restaurants. Clearly, a lot of thought and talent has gone into the dishes here. Seasonal California cooking, done very well. make sure you get a seat near the patio, not in the dark bar, unless you want privacy and quiet.

FIG IS THE **BEST**!!!
This was the first time I ate outside in the pool area - what a treat it was, and I'll be asking for this table going forward, during the summer months, because it was truly great. The hostess made sure that we got OSCAR as our waiter, as he is my first choice always, and everything was perfect - the food, the service, the ambiance. Fig is my go-to restaurant in Santa Monica. Superb, each and every time! Thank you, Fig!
7/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were seated in the enclosed patio promptly at our reservation time and only took a couple minutes to get our drink order taken. For our meal, we ordered Bacon Wrapped Bacon for a starter, our entrees were Wild Mushroom Risotto and Short Rib Meatloaf, and for desert we had the Cherry Cake. Everything was delicious and good sized portions (enough to have some leftovers to bring home). As for everything else...The service was great all the way through. The restaurant got moderately loud, but was still able to hear my friend without issue. I recommend it and plan on going back.
7/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
good early breakfast
it is a calmer, quieter place in the early morning. a more pleasant environment than prime time loud scene. the food? well breakfast is breakfast... but the thoughtful , attentive, professional servers take such good care.
7/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
A bit noisy!
Food was very good, inside was very noisy! The wine was very expensive at $18 a glass for their own label. There are a couple of tables outside which were more quiet! No complaints about the service!

Fig is a treat!
Celebrated a birthday at Fig and it was great. We did the "Feed Me" tasting menu where the chef surprises you and it was adventuresome and delicious.

A last minute dining choice led to a great restaurant in the Fairmont Hotel. A gem, terrific food, all farm fresh. The spinach w/dates and pine nuts was exceptionally good, both the pasta-less vegetable lasagna (it's all in the sauce and combo of veggies) and risotto were excellent. Yes, they serve meat too. Wonderful choices and ambiance. I would highly recommend The Fig.

Al Fresco For Business
FIG offers poolside views without pool noise. Efficient, friendly wait staff know when to appear and when NOT to interrupt.
Food is tasty, with reasonable portions. Tomato Basil soup is best in Santa Monica.
Get a cup, not a bowl.
Great atmosphere for serious business conversations.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Better than average hotel bar&grill
The food and service were excellent. It's seldom that we find a gem like this in a hotel. Would definitely recommend this to anyone whether staying on property or not.

We celebrated a birthday at lunch and had the best waiter. He couldn't do enough for us without being overbearing. The ambience is great, feels like a mini vacation and the food was delicious.. Great tomato soup and chopped salad.

Ray Garcia Rocks
I have to say I've had my fair share of short rib dishes in the past but this one is really, REALLY good. Does it beat David Burke? No. But it's close for sure. I think what pushed me over was the fact that it was served over sweet corn, ditalini pasta and truffle. Amazing! Start with a flight of cheese and the salami plate - you won't be sorry. The bacon wrapped bacon was also really good (basically a deconstructed BLT). Dessert? Order the peanut butter crunch items. Amazing - although really rich. Don't order the warm cherry cake - it's really dry - even with the ice cream they serve it with. Highly recommend.

FIG(URE) IT OUT
It was our 5th anniversary and a night out from our daughter. I informed Fig of this when we made our reservation. We were provided with complementary champagne when we were seated. It was a great way to set the tone of the evening. The menu offered a lot of choices with fresh, seasonal ingredients. We split the burrata with pesto and bacon wrapped bacon (pork belly) appetizers. The burrata was not the best I have had and was had a bit of a tangy flavor. The pork belly was great. I had the pork shank with peaches. It was fantastic. My wife had the lupe de mer (sp?), which was also really good. We had the strawberry tres leches dessert and it was also really good. There are so many choices in LA, but I will probably return.

Atmosphere doesn't match menu
Just an odd environment - one half of the restaurant feels more like a bar area, the other half feels like an odd sun patio. Had an early reservation, the hotel lobby was a buzz with people coming and going from The Bungalow as well as kids running in and around from the pool area.
Hostess was on her game, sat us at a very small table for 4 people. Wine list is small and uninspiring, but the food is delicious and well prepared. It feels like you are paying a premium for the hotel and neighborhood - not for the service or the atmosphere.
All in all, there are better options in the same area, for the same price, that give you a more rounded dining experience.

Love the Fig
Always a great experience. Great food, great service, great vibe.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pricey, but great!
We had the Chef's choice fixed menu. At $85 each, it was expensive, but delicious food in decent portions. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Located in the Fairmont hotel, the setting is beautiful. Loved that the Fairmont (not Fig) is dog-friendly

Out of towner date night
I was visiting Santa Monica and wanted an outdoor dining experience to enjoy the weather. But I also wanted a quality dinner and drinks. Fig satisfied all my requirements. I requested a patio table but wasnt initially taken to one. However when I asked the hostess she was happy to seat us out there. I could see the patio being a little awkward if you're going for a romantic vibe and the pool is full of playing children. Luckily the pool was empty when we arrived for dinner so it was nice and quiet. Food and drinks were all very good. Only qualm would be that the "warm cookies" for dessert were not that warm. Would definitely go back.

We had the Chef's Special
We had the Chef's Special which consisted of 4 courses (9 dishes) and it was OUTSTANDING. Ate a few things that I would never had ordered and am so glad that I tried!! Chef Ray Carcia and his staff really out did themselves. Loved it and look forward to coming to FIG again when we are in the area.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food and service was great! Entire menu, including cocktails, is half off in the bar area from 5-6pm Mon-Tue! What an amazing deal.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fig at 5
Best happy hour. Get there between 5 and 6, Tuesday through Saturday, and get 50% off of everything. Pure amazing!
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
I met up with an old friend here. The ambiance was great. It would be a great place for a romantic date or a great spot for groups celebrating something. The food was good and I had a great time!
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great time and a really good place. Only note is that the pasta less lasagna isn't that great but it was still good enough
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fig is amazing!
I wanted a really nice restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday with my husband, best friend and her husband, and Fig did not disappoint. From the minute my husband told the front table who we were, they knew it was my birthday, and they were going to make it very special. The waiter told us that the chef wanted to make our dinner wonderful, and he encourage us to have the"Chef's Choice." I am a bit picky about my food, so I told the waiter what I don't like, and made sure he knew that my husband is vegan. And then the food kept coming. We were there for over 3 hours. Service was outstanding. Everything was delicious. Quinoa dish, the fish, and steak and frites were my favorite. Definitely will be back!!

One of the best dinners I've
One of the best dinners I've had this year and I'm kind of a foodie - go to a lot of restaurants to try them out. I will definitely be back. And the happy hour prices can't be beat.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
I asked to be moved to a quieter table but in the end it was just as noisy as it was near the bar and they had music playing. Too bad they don't have one area that is quieter. Might make me think twice about going back.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Quinoa salad. Nothing more needs to be said. Our group had 6 entrees and we all tried each other's food. All dishes were good, though the quinoa salad was perfection - even for a group of meat eaters!
10/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good food. Local food
Very good food. Local food from markets near by (or so they say). Creative dishes. Expensive, but I would recommend it.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and ambiance
The food and drinks were amazing. Many of the dishes were creative and ridiculously delicious. You know a restaurant is high quality when a seemingly simple dessert like "A Plate of Warm Cookies" happens to be the best cookies you've ever had, homemade or otherwise. I would definitely recommend coming here for special occasions.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fig is always my go-to restaurant!
Loved it. As usual. Perfect food, perfect service, perfect environment. THANK YOU, FIG!
10/21/2013 5:00:00 PM
I've heard so much about the place and it was very good. A tad over priced. The staff was great and efficient. The lamb appetizer was amazing. I want to go back!
10/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
Robert our server was great! We enjoyed the large variety of options for our dinner. I especially loved the cheese options, you can custom make your cheese plate, Cow, goat, sheep, blue..... you name it, they have options. They had many of my favorites.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
GREAT - As Expected!
Really good meal at Fig. SO nice to have a delicious, high quality restaurant in a hotel that draws a genuinely enthusiastic local crowd. The Chicken Liver Pate and Prosciutto Plate are perfect starters. I highly recommend going to Fig!!! Big fan!!

Food was superb, service on par
When you go out to a restaurant and spend money, you want a good experience - you work hard - you will easily lay down a couple hundred, it better be good, right?! If you go here- you will not be disappointed. Chef Ray Garcia knows how to knock your socks off with dishes like lambs tongue and freshly seasoned ceviche' to charred leeks, everything is done in a way to bring each item on your plate to its full potential. A grey list of wines, apps cocktails for everyone at the table to be pleased.

Perfect Little Gem
Fig has just gotten better. When it began the food was good, but now it's really delicious. The waitstaff are easy and don't pressure you to leave. The view of the pool is attractive, though I've never seen it filled, so I don't know what that's like. My only complaint is that the tables are way too close together. I could understand every word of every conversation happening around me... Not ideal for taking a client out for a business lunch.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of the best meals I've ever had
I am not sure that this small review can do FIG justice. I have dined at many fine, Michelin-starred restaurants - this ranks right up there with them! My friend and I shared several dishes on this particular evening. We started with the stuffed figs which were delicious. Next, we shared the baby kale salad - I never knew there was a delicious way to enjoy this superfood! Next, we shared the New York Strip (melt-in-our-mouths delicious and came with blue cheese butter and an amazing saucse), along with the Cauliflower Risotto (so good!), and the best beans I have ever tasted (there were crisp but cooked yellow and green beans, with mouthwatering brown butter hollandaise sauce...TO DIE FOR!!!). Dessert was the Peanut Butter Crunch Bar...OMG!

A Perenial Favorite
Always delicious, very consistent, outstanding service. I've had 30 meals at Fig in the past 3 years. Each of them has been wonderful.

Great Time Had by All
Birthday dinner for daughter. We all had a wonderful time. Food was excellent

Good but not worth the pancake hype
I decided to take my sister here for brunch after she had read an article in TimeOut about the lemon ricotta pancakes. My sister thought the pancakes good but I had the misfortune of ordering the eggs benedict, which I felt was poorly done. However, the potatoes that were served with the eggs were delicious- soft and well flavoured. It was a nice enough experience (the design of the place is well suited to that Sunday morning brunch vibe that one tends to romanticise about) but I honestly will not be coming back to Fig as there are other places in L.A. that serves a much better brunch for the same price point .
If you are trying to impress your "out of town" relatives wiho value ambience over food then definitely check this place out.
