We LOVE this restaurant!
My husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Not having dined there before, we were wondering if we had made the right choice. We knew we had the minute we arrived. The ambiance was delightful, and the staff was welcoming. The server was perfect, and the food was beyond excellent! We could not have chosen a better place. We will be back again and again, and hope to make the Painted Pony a regular stop every time we are in St. George!

Food was outstanding as usual
The food at the Painted Pony never disappoints! The flavor combinations, presentation, and use of local and/or organic ingredients are the highlights for me. Randall (owner and chef) has an amazing way with food. His culinary creations are to die for.
The patio is fantastic. I love sitting out under the misters on a summer evening.
Great place to celebrate a special occasion. In this instance, our special occasion was simply a night out for my husband and I without our child. :)

The food (Dinner menu) was good but the cost was way too far to the expensive side. The drinks were out of site.

Love this place!
I have been coming here for years. The food is always perfectly prepared and presented. The service is always great and often outstanding. You really get what you pay for here. I recommend this place to everyone and always get thanks in return. Do not miss this gem!

Still satisfies - great lunch
I had not been at the Painted Pony for a couple years and was very pleased to find that it is still a pleasant spot for good food and atmosphere. We had lunch on the patio (and shopped at the next-door boutique...).
The restaurant has unique artwork and clever touches, such as serving water in pewter mugs. I had my favorite, the portabello mushroom sandwich, and my friends split a burger. The french fries were fresh and delicious. The three of us shared an appetizer of coconut shrimp, which were lightly coated and tasty. We also ordered flavored iced tea (fresh raspberries in the raspberry tea). Servers were friendly and knowledgeable.
My only problem with the Painted Pony is that I do not get there often enough. I recommend it highly.

We had a great evening. From the baked Brie through dessert of frozen lemon soufflé, everything was wonderful. John was very attentive and helped us enjoy our evening. Portions were large enough to share and everything was well prepared. We'll be back!

Top notch restaurant!
We found this gem of a restaurant vacationing in St. George. It was a beautiful setting for a birthday dinner. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Nice to find a great place that is not a national chain. We will come back again!

Food is outstanding and inventive. Tried the tuna over the soba noodles delicious. Husband had the pork, heavenly. Took soup home for lunch the next day, jalepeno carrot amazing!

Great Birthday Celebration
We celebrated my husband's birthday with friends at the Painted Pony. The food was excellent as usual and the server was attentive and friendly. This restaurant never disappoints!!

Always a Pleasant Experience
We love to stop off on our way from the Cedar City Shakespeare Festival for a delightful dinner. This time we were with our adult children and grandchildren and I could not have been more pleased with the attentiveness of our waiter to their needs. As we only get there once or twice a year, we shared many menu items. The purée of carrot-jalapeño soup was rich in flavor yet not heavy. The French onion soup was served in an onion! The bacon wrapped duck, pork chop, and bone in ribeye steak were all excellent. Even though we were full, we could not pass up the excellent desserts. I especially enjoyed the coconut crusted key lime tart. There is also an excellent wine list, but the proprietary Pinot Noir perfectly matched the cuisine.

We met my sole surviving aunt for dinner. As with any special occasion, we wished to dwell a bit. For the average American diner, our meal was probably too long by a multiplier of 4 or 5, but for us, it was perfect. The best meals in the best restaurants I've personally experienced have been thoughtfully and carefully prepared and served, with time between courses to consume and converse. The food was very good, the service was attentive but not hovering, the wine list was more than adequate and the ambiance was fitting for fine dining.....There was plenty of socializing, but we were able to have conversation at a normal, pleasant volume and be easily heard and understood. A very satisfying evening.

Excellent meal in St. George, UT
On vacation visiting Zion and Bryce last week, we had the opportunity to eat at the Painted Pony. I had the beet salad and the rack of lamb. My husband had the crab cakes and bacon wrapped duck breast. The food was excellent! I could eat the beet salad everyday. Painted Pony could go toe to toe with some of the fine dining restaurants in the SF Bay Area. The one observation I had was that the portions were really big and generous. They give you two big crab cakes and a full rack of lamb. You normally see bigger portions at say Cheesecake Factory, but not at fancier restaurants. Our server, Kelli, was very friendly and helpful. Delicious food and great service at the Painted Pony!

Painted Pony is a rare gem. Nate our waiter, was knowledgeable and professional and enhanced the dining experience. Please ask for him when you go. Overall excellent. Presentation of food, was artistic

Friday night at 6:30 pm, 27 th Anniversary DInner, seated in an alcove on a 4 topper so seemed private. She had french onion soup served in a fresh onion shell sitting on top of rock salt. Salt was sticking to the cheese (somewhat annoying) but flavor was very good. I had jalapeno carrot soup. It was good but not killer. Dont let the jalapeno scare you. It was not spicy at all. She had the bacon wrapped duck. It was good, small portions but we knew that. I had seared Ahi tuna, was warned it is served rare, that was fine, was like sushi but enjoyed it. Too full for desert. The Waiter (John) was very professional and was there often enough without being annoying. Painted Pony is a good solid establishment but not off the chart.

The painte pony was a great restaurant with great ambience everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They made our anniversary feel special. The food was amazing. The French onion soup was to die for! Along with the white chocolate banana bread pudding. I loved the goblets and our pony table.

Fabulous new favorite
First tried the Painted Pony for lunch at the recommendation of a local shop. Lunch was so fabulous we knew we had to try for dinner as well. This restaurant has it all. Great service & ambiance. Food was absolutely wonderful. Featured wine was a such a nice selection, that we will be purchasing it again. A truly fantastic dining experience!! Would highly recommend to anyone.!! Best restaurant we've been to in quite awhile!!

St. George's Finest
I highly recommend this restaurant. It is an innovative, creative and unique experience in the quaint little town of St. George. Nestled right in the heart of our downtown district of Ancestor Square, the ambiance and view set the stage for a memorable dining experience. The menu includes healthy organic options making great food great for you too! Try the Hanger Steak and Brie appetizer - they are sure to please anyone! Don't forget to pair it with your favorite wine and share a wonderful night out with someone you love!

Great Night at the Painted Pony!!!
An absolutely perfect place for a great meal. Tucked away up stairs (elevator available) amongst some art galleries is this hidden Gem of St George. The service is as good as it gets. On our last visit our server was Sheree and she was amazing. On the way home I found my self struggling to remember having to ask for anything. As for the price, compared with the quality of food and service and I confident in saying that I have rarely found such a good value. If you are in St George do not miss a night out on the town at the Painted Pony!!!

Great place to eat!
Every time I come to Saint George I have to eat here at least once! Always save room for dessert, they are outstanding here!!

Nice atmosphere. Great food
Nice atmosphere. Great food but recommend sharing for light eaters. It was hard to find due to signage in a historic distric. Call for the secret location. Awesome to have found this gem while on a road trip.

What a surprise
Great place to dine with friends and family. A real gem. Will go there again!!

A gem in St George
Not a lot of great eats in this town. Painted Pony is an exception!

EVERYTHING about our experience at the Painted Pony will be forever etched into our mental scrapbook of perfect evenings out. Each serving was a piece of art...and each bite was absolutely delicious.

Great Celebration Dinner
I wanted to have a great dining experience after finishing the STG Marathon. Based on reviews on-line and the Painted Pony website, I made reservations at the same time I reserved our hotel for the marathon. The setting is lovely, an oasis in downtown St. George. The staff is so friendly. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. It was perfect - set in the corner away from the bustle of the restaurant. The waiting staff and the food was incredible. Plus, the Painted Pony Pinot was outstanding. A great celebration after completing the marathon. We will be back next year, assuming I am lucky enough to get in to the marathon next year!!

What a surprise!
We made St George our starting place for our trip to the southern Utah national parks. We asked the front desk clerk-"where would you go for your birthday if you could go anywhere in town?" and this was the recommendation. What a wonderful dining spot-excellent food, presented so beautifully, the setting was lovely and so was the service. A very sweet server-and scrumptios dessert. Hope to go again next trip-
10/5/2013 5:00:00 PM
I had requested a quiet table since I had not been there before. Even though the place was pretty full, the Maitre D had not only reserved me a gorgeous table in a very nice window but also another booth in case it wasnt perfect. The food was also very good but the pork chop a bit over cooked.

So good that we returned next night
We enjoyed our dinning experience so much we returned the next night. We're not easily wowed but the PP wowed us. Our 1st night we had salad, the hanger steak and the duck wrapped in bacon and a side of asparagus, everything was so good and the food presentation was a feast for the eyes. You only hoped that it tasted as good as it looked AND IT DID.
Our Server "Kelli" was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We don't usually have desert, but Kelli recommended the lemon souffle and again it was a homerun.
Our 2nd nigth (Kelli was off) but the service was still great. Had the coconut shrimp appetizer "a must try", repeated the duck (cause it's that good) and the rack of lamb, another winner. PP is a must try.

Painted Pony; Always a Pleasure
Made our annual trek to Painted Pony where you can count on fine dining and great service. Menu is always enticing and creative. Located in an architecturally-interesting building upstairs where you can also roam a lovely art gallery and shop at an upscale women's boutique downstairs. Very upbeat surroundings. Look forward again to dining there next October.

Memorable Dining Experience
Loved our first meal and returned the next evening. Highly recommend the duck wrapped with bacon and the coconut shrimp appetizer. But really everything we had was very good and the food presentation only enhanced the meal.
It was truly a memorable dining experience, we will definite go again if we're in the area.

The gem of Saint George
During a trip to Saint George last year my husband and I discovered the Painted Pony and were delighted with the entire experience: food, service, ambiance, and location. We decided to return this year and were happily surprised that nothing had changed in this wonderful restaurant. It will definitely be a yearly pilgrimage for us.

Always great food & service
Favorite place in St. George. Have been going for 10+ years and is always excellant service with food to match.

gem in st george
What a treat....this was recommended to us by friends and it did not disappoint. Very interesting menu prepared in an excellent manner.....will definitely return on our next visit to St George
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Ok. So the service was great, the atmosphere was great, the food was good, but what about those of us that can't handle large amounts of onions? Am I the only one out there that can't handle it? The food was fabulous but the rice was so thick with onions that it kept me up most of the night. I would love to go back and eat there again but would never do it because of the onions.

This was our first time in
This was our first time in St. George,UT, likewise first time at The Painted Pony. I have already recommended it to someone who states they will be in St. George in January. I found it on Open Table while planning our trip. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu items as well as cocktails and wine offerings. Food was well prepared and well presented. Will definitely return if we are ever in St. George or that area.

Wonderful and Elegant
It started with a table by the window on a full moon night. A very knowledgeable server greeted us with a pleasant smile, helping us think about what wonderful choices we had to choose from for the evening. John was his name, his attention to detail, timing & professional manners were over the top. John helped my evening with my husband & celebrate his birthday very special. The chief should also know how delicious our meal was, great taste, great servings portions & wonderful presentations. Thank you... We are looking forward to another time spent at the Painted Pony.

A Gem In St. George
Fabulous waiter Ryan we had the mussels, onion soup served in a baked onion, skirt steak entrée to die for with truffle chips and the 'most' amazing beet salad! I dreamt about it that night!!The next morning when we woke up to my husband suggested we stay in St. George so we dine again at the Painted Pony. We had the stuffed quail with risotto appetizer, their signature carrot and jalepeno (YUMMY!) soup, my husband had the soba noodles with seared ahi and I ordered the bone in pork chop with moist luscious corn bread that had a layer of corn. We had enough leftovers for a golf course picnic the next day. Our server was Kelli ( delight!!!!!).Another highlight was that one of the servers looks like Neil Patrick Harris!!!!
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We dined at Painted Pony for our 30th wedding anniversary while visiting St. George from Las Vegas. It was a wonderful dining experience. Food was comparable to a gourmet dining experience in LV. Service was excellent. They wished us happy anniversary when we arrived.
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Seriously noisy group
The only issue we had with the restaurant had to do with an outrageously loud group of female diners who appeared to compete with one another as to who could talk the loudest. Several won that contest hands down. Really wish the management at the restaurant would have asked them to tone it down.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pleased Repeat Customers
We save the Painted Pony for our special occasion dinners. The atmosphere / ambiance, combined with great service makes us feel as though we are important customers. The individually prepared food has unique touches, good quality ingredients and sufficient portions.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband, grandson, and I enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing lunch at the Painted Pony. We enjoyed the salmon salad, baked mac and cheese, the turkey sandwich, and both soups offered that day. Everything was delicious! We especially enjoyed the fantastic service and conversation from Brice!

Something Great for Everyone
Four of us with very different tastes all had great dinners. Even our vegan friend was overwhelmingly positive about the "Vegetable Medley" that the Chef prepared for her. It was a wonderful, fine dining experience, as always. We always take our out-of-town guests here and they are always impressed.

Great for celebrating
My business partners and I choose the Painted Pony to celebrate the end of a successful year in business and have decided to make it an annual event. We live about three hours away from St. George and didn't know of a really nice place for dinner, we struck gold by finding this on the internet. The menu was varied enough to satisfy very different tastes, one has food sensitivities, one doesn't like anything too different and two of us are very adventurous eaters. We all found something perfect and delicious! We were surprised at the wine list as we are used to the same old wines that most Utah restaurants seem to serve. Our server's style was not overpowering yet very helpful, we really appreciated her.
11/3/2013 4:00:00 PM
We enjoyed a wonderful Saturday lunch with the usual excellent food and service. My husband and I both had the salmon salad which was delicious.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a wonderful experience at the Painted Pony. The presentation of the food was beautiful. The four of us each ordered something different, and none of us were disappointed. This is our go to place when we want a good meal. The desserts are wonderful. The service is friendly and right on top of everything.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Consistenly Very Good
We had the quail appetizer, then Rack of Lamb and the Seared Ahi Tuna. The Ahi was very nicely done, but was a bit overpowered by the rest of the Japanese flavored dish. It is easy to overpower Ahi, though!
The lamb was lovely. Well balanced. The plate had some nice contrasts within the theme.
The coconut key lime tort was OK. The French press coffee was OK, but we thought that at $7 it was a bit overpriced. Service was friendly, knowledgeable.
$120 including tip with an $8.50 glass of Ste. Michelle merlot.
Water was presented in pewter cups. I didn't like the feel of the pewter on my lips. Weird, huh?
Table 14 is a corner, window table.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a great night. So glad he picked the quail appetizer which was served on perfectly cooked risotto. Next we had the carrot/jalapeño & French onion soups. We both preferred the carrot. I ordered the duck which I was apprehensive about at first bc I find duck to be over cooked but this was perfect. He had the steak &, again, perfect. I couldn't wait to see what the "truffle ruffles" were all about. Turned out to be fancy potato chips which seemed out of place with this meal, but we couldn't decide what other side would compliment such a rich meal.
The service was great. The ambiance relaxing & nice touch that you can pick your own table while making your reservation. A lovely evening for a couple in love who wanted a nice evening out.
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a great time. The food was outstanding and the service that john provided was excellent!! It was my dates first time and she simply loved it. Thank you.

Fantastic diamond in the desert!
Our server John was very professional and never missed a step in providing a great experience for my family! In a town where chain restaurants dominate, the painted pony is a fantastic addition to St. George! Great food, creative gastronomy, wonderful service!
