We did not encounter the typical
We did not encounter the typical jitters you would expect from a newly opened restaurants. Although there was quite a bit of lag time between our first bite and the main dishes that followed. The chef was not on duty initially but it appears that he showed up later (with a few friends for dinner we think) and noticed the back up and went behind the kitchen to help out. The food was all good, the wine selection may need further tweaking (may just be a personal preference) but the first 2 white that the server has recommended we didn't like, eventually settled on the pinot noir which was very good.

New Gem in Tangletown
Ethan Stowell's latest restaurant is a winner. While there are some quirks to be worked through (timing, seating, etc), the food was tasty and the staff could not have been more accomodating. They went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our meal and wanted to come back. I look forward to my next meal there!

Tiny Restaurant Big Flavors
Hadnt been to an Ethan Stowell restaurant in awhile and wanted to check out his newest. Very cute location in Tangletown. We were offered outdoor seating, which given that it wasn't raining in early October wasn't a bad idea, adding heaters would be a great addition. The space is long and cozy and the menu is very simple, a few salads, a few starters, and a few entrée selections. The Hamachi crudo was delicious, as were the zucchini fritters. The quail was a delicious smaller version of fried chicken with a tomato jam. Service was sincere and not snooty, wine list was good. Parking in that neighborhood might be a challenge on a Friday night, but we did just fine. Great experience and I would go back again.

Great seafood, very noisy
Nice to have another good restaurant in the neighborhood. The seafood dishes that we had were excellent. Zucchini fritters a bit soggy. Very attentive wait staff. Very noisy - how about turning the music down or off?

Interesting and local menu
This was my second time at Mkt. I live in the neiborhood and was very pleased to see Ethan Stowell opening a place just blocks from my house. This time I took a good friend who is a good cook and enjoys interesting dishes.
We started with the Hamachi cevechi which was so flavorful and melted in your mouth. We ordered three other dishes which were also well prepared. Our server Ani was attentive and friendly and gave us good advice on the menu and the barrell aged coctails.
This place has only 28 seats and is very small. It has a nice cozy feel, but the booth and chairs are not padded. This is one thing that I see could be easliy improved to make the experience better.
Looking foward to returning.

The chef is creative and the food is delicious. Incredibly kind and generous service. Loved the fried quail and the lamb tongue especially, which was incredibly tender and delicious.

Oh, there it is!
Not a bad thing that mkt. is hidden in plain sight. It really is just a nook; so small that the staff nearly outnumber the diners at any point in time. The menu is nicely manageable in terms of depth and breadth; I had the sense of choosing from a carefully curated collection of dishes, consisting of only those that the kitchen was capable of turning out flawlessly - which was our experience. We didn't eat everything on the menu, but everything we ate was the kind of good that evokes the low moan of a mostly silent o m g.
I'll certainly be going back and I hope to see you there.
I forgot to mention.... gracious and engaging service. Ethan is hiring well.
BTW, make a reservation, even for just 2.

For a good time call..
My experience at Mkt. was good. It was a busy Friday night, but didn't really feel like it on the inside. The food was actually very good and the price/portion margin reasonable. Our server was genuine and happy. He was a professional, and that is refreshing. One note is the personal attention the manager Seth gave. He thanked us by name as we left?? That made the experience feel that much more personable and makes me want to go back all the more.

What a find!
So happy to have such a great restaurant right in our neighborhood ! I almost hate to rate it for fear it will become so popular we won't be able to get in !!

Fantastic little spot!
The small space gave a cozy feel - the food was great! Dinah's cheese with some sort of amazing tomoto preserve, pork loin and vegatable tagine - all so good we debated over which was the best on our car ride home. It was a little hard to find - sandwiched between two other places - but well work the search!

Intimate dining in Tangletown
Excellent, intimate dining space nestled in the heart of Tangletown. Beautiful presentation, great wine list, good portion sizes, and attentive staff. Would definitely recommend and will be dining there again soon.

World's smallest restaurant
Newly opened Ethan Stowell effort in a tiny space - "seats 28", though 4 at each of 2 counters. Outside counter, as in many of his other restaurants, planned for ~ 4 diners in good weather. "Family Style" presentation, small tables. Mixed drinks available. Extensive wine list, generally quite expensive (least expensive was an American Bordeaux-style blend for $36) - can't imagine where they STORE the wines! Crew of 5 works well together. Our dinner for 4, with the aforementioned bottle of wine and 2 mixed drinks, and 2 desserts, was $171 before tax ($187 with tax). Likely will go again sometime, though really prefer Stowell's other restaurants, from the space perspective.

Great addition to Tangletown
We had such a pleasurable dining experience at MKT this week. Seth, the manager, is warm and welcoming. The service is professional yet friendly. This is a small, cozy and warm restaurant and the food was imaginative and delicious.

Great food, wine and service!
It's clear that a lot of time, thought and creativity has been invested in creating a great experience in such a small space. Make your reservation now, or if you're in the Tangletown/Greenlake neighborhood swing by. You won't be disappointed. Mkt. is fantastic.

We enjoyed our dining experience
We enjoyed our dining experience at mkt. The servers we very informative and attentive.
Our only negative comments would be, it was too warm towards the back of the restaurant were we were seated and 2., it was a bit loud.

Creative, delicious food,
Creative, delicious food, cooked and served by a team of friendly, fun people. Ethan Stowell's best restaurant to date (Staple & Fancy is a close second!).

Another Ethan Stowell winner! The restaurant is small but my experience was large! Not only was the food excellent but the service was outstanding. My dinner companion was an out of town friend and we wanted time to chat and catch up.....we were never rushed and in fact were told the table was our for the evening! The roasted green beans tasted like they were just picked, the prawns were cooked perfectly in a lovely sauce, and the mackerel with crispy skin melted in your mouth. And don't get me started on the ravioli.....I could have taken a loaf of bread to that sauce and made another meal! And it was all accompanied by a very well priced lovely 2009 Cote du Rhone. Make a reservation and go!

fabulous precious tastes
This is a great place to go on a date or for drinks and light meal with friends. It is a handsome space, quiet enough to talk with your date, but lively. The service was great. The dishes are meant to be shared, which works fine with just two people, but the portions were small, which would mean sharing with a group sad.
The yummy grean beans came served in a glass, so eating was fun with fingers. They were crisp, fresh and tasty.Next up was a hamachi ceviche, a few bites of nice tastes. The pear chestnut salad was beautifully prepared, a combo of tart, savory and fresh flavors. The duck confit with rabbit bacon and squash puree was savory, seasonal. fabulous tastes, but overall, small portions. The prices were reasonable enough.

We loved our time at Mkt. There is no other comparable dining experience.

With less noise it would be perfect
In short, clever menu, excellent preparations, delightful service, cute space. But, sigh, I am so tired of the noise level at Ethan Stowell restaurants. Usually it's the combination of open kitchen and lots of reflective hard surfaces (Ethan loves brick walls), but why does this initmate space need loud techno music, followed by loud hand banger rock and ending with loud grundge. Not as utterly painful as Tavolata, thank God, but such a distraction from what is such an otherwise impressive new restaurant. Oh well.

Small and intimate space but
Small and intimate space but huge on flavor. Family style servings make sharing the norm and allow you to order a little bit of everything. Kudos especially to the grilled green beans and the roasted porcini ravioli!

Quaint and Delicious
Small place, with a very comfortable feel from the moment we arrived when they took our coats to the farewells received as we left. Really enjoyed the food. Four dishes (and dessert) between my wife and I was a good amount. The wagyu beef and ravioli (mushroom) were both amazing. The shrimp, although still in the shell, so it made it somewhat difficult to eat, was also a "we would definitely order this again" dish. The coriander fritter was good, but not up to par with the other dishes. For dessert we had the pistachio gelato on top of a homemade baked tart, which left us wanting more. Even on a cold seattle night, the frozen ice cream on top of the warm flaky pie-crust hit the spot! Highly recommended.
12/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Four of us shared eight or nine different dishes...two starters, four entrees, two sides, two desserts. Didn't think raves of other reviewers about green beans accurate but ravioli matched expectations. Especially loved scallops...perfectly sautéed.
This is a very small place with most tables up against kitchen area and quite noisy. Only complaint: I felt very rushed with the speed of dishes brought out. If I was there with husband only, would have asked them to slow it down.
