Mostly simple food, but so
Mostly simple food, but so well done. Pleasant place, not too loud, but still buzzing. Easy menu - 6 apps, 6 entrees, 2 deserts. Quality, not quantity. Food was really just delicious. Creative (see the "sushi" app), but not just for the sake of it. Service was great - knowledgeable staff, friendly excited owner. And not overly expensive. Entrees in low to mid-$20s. Such a great meal. Just excellent all around.

Will be back!
The crab roulette and the watermelon salad were fantastic starters. The salad was plated to mimic sushi (very playful!) which made for a fun dining experience. The rockfish and the Delmonico steak were very flavorful and the portions were just right. For dessert, the Earl Grey ganache was a perfect ending.
The service was polite, not overly attentive. I'm looking forward to seeing what changes they make to the menu as seasons change. I would definitely go back!

Loud, too loud to hear our waitress
We'll forgive the waitress for forgetting that she had our table. The hostess sat us down with menus and after we picked what we wanted we spent about 10 minutes trying to stare holes in all the wait staff that kept passing our table. Then our waitress did come back and apologize, they've been opne just two weeks and the table assignments were still in flux. Great we have a waitress, but with the sound we couldn't make out what the special drinks (I think it was cocktails) were and barely what she had to say about desserts. The food was quite good to ok. We liked the crab, the figs that must have been seared, and the avocado BLT. The duck apparently was the only entre to rave about. There was no printed dessert menu.

I came across Thally on Thrillist, noticed it because we've been to Cork a number of times. Our meal was excellent, the service was great and we've already recommended it to a bunch of others. I love finding places like this!

Great addition to the neighborhood
We were so impressed by Thally last night! The food was AMAZING and presentation was gorgeous. All of the appetizers were simply delicious and great to share and the rockfish was some of the best I've ever eaten. A must try in Shaw!

Great new restaurant
I really enjoyed dining here. The food was great. The portions were a little small so I would recommend getting both a first and a second course. The wine selection was short but had an interesting and wide variety and a lot (might have even been everything) was available by the glass. I only did 4 stars on the service because the server forgot to mention that there was a substitution on the menu and we were caught off guard when the food came out. The price is pretty standard for DC. Entrees are a little lower than some places but given the portions make it so ordering 2 courses is barely optional I would say in the end the bill is on par with other similar restaurants (for me about $50-70 per person with wine, tax, and tip).

Great food, fun craft brew menu
Excellent food, comparable in creativity and quality to my DC standard, Palena. But funner and less stodgy because they have a really creative and fun beer, Meade, cider, and cocktail menu, and they are in an interesting up-and-coming hood. The head bar man also does the beer picks at Meridian Pint. He know his stuff. They also feature house made limoncellos, for a tart and tasty apertif. A little lacking in ambience, with overhead instead of low or spot lighting. Kind and attentive waitstaff. I will mos def go again for either cocktails, food, and brew.

Great overall restaurant!
My friends and I really enjoyed the food here! The crab roulette, watermelon and feta, cabbage soup, pork shoulder carnitas were the appetizers of choice- in ranking order. The duck breast, pork chop, and steak were all hits as well. The item that blew us away (from sight alone) was the chocolate ganache dessert. It is more than enough to share with two people. The panna cotta was really light and refreshing as well. Because the menu is so small, you really can't go wrong with anything you get here. Everything was delicious. The only thing I can really recommend is to make sure you get an appetizer AND and entree per person, otherwise you may still be hungry when you want out of there!

I've eaten at Thally twice now and am already eager to go back. I like the look of the place, the feel of it, and the taste of everything I've had from the kitchen. The menu is small, but that's a strength. It's thoughtfully designed, and everything is beautifully prepared. Ron Tanaka is doing great work in the kitchen. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Co-owner Sherman Outhuok is a warm presence, eager to talk to customers and get feedback. The place is off to a fine start. I just hope the crowds don't discover it and ruin the friendly neighborhood feel of the joint. Food and drink are both well-priced, too, so that a night at Thally, while not cheap, won't break the bank.

All point landing
Finally, a restaurant which delivers excellent food, in surprising combinations, within an atmosphere where you can read the menu and hear your companions. Did I say excellent food? Yes, from the flavored butter (needed more which we got with no problem) to the innovative reconstructions of recipes in new combinations. All delivered with good cocktail, wine, beer, and lambic choice options (not the biggest in town, but very broad, good, and affordable). The music is interesting--towards the modern electric, but turned low so that it baths you rather than hits you. Comfortable seats! And excellent food. Make it a common trip.

This is a new restaurant and a great addition to the neighborhood. We had a great dinner recently of braised pear salad, cabbage soup (better than it sounds!), pork t-bone, and skate. The only negative was the dessert of gelato, which was average. I am not sure if that was made in-house. The cooking here was among the better I have had recently among the slew of new places opening in DC. The restaurant has a pleasing and friendly space, and is notably quieter than most restaurants these days even when the seats were mostly full. I understand there is a daily happy hour at the bar.

This was our second time to Thally and we really enjoyed it. It was tremendous. The food was really delicious (I had rabbit). It was a quiet Sunday evening after Thanksgiving and we were there early (5:30). The ambiance was perfect to catch up with friends. We will be back (we all will). Thanks

Limited menu but everything
Limited menu but everything is very good and some dishes quite creative. Great list of wine by the glass, and reasonably priced by the bottle. Very friendly and helpful service.

Great Neighborhood as well as....
over all DC restaurant and bar. The guys behind this place knew what they were doing. Bring a date and ask to sit in the back area. Cosy in back, social in front.
