Food was great but they have
Food was great but they have a live singer on Friday night so it was hard to have an actual conversation at dinner. Would plan to go at a different time next time so that the singer isn't there. He's not bad but just not what I wanted when out to dinner.

good food, good variety
We have been trying all the restaurants that interest us along Castro St. in Mountain View, and La Fontaine was on that list. We are glad we tried it and we definitely will go back. What we found amazing was that there really was a dish for everyone (Salmon Wellington for me, spaghetti and meatballs for my husband, Coq au Vin for one friend and Seafood Linguine for another; I was very happy that the Wellington pastry was so light and thin and did not overwhelm the salmon). The other thing we liked was that there wasn't too much food on each plate; we find many restaurants slop lots of food on a single plate and that isn't appetizing to see. Each of the four of us was very happy with the plating of our meal and with the taste.

French Cuisine Outstanding Service
My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here on Saturday night and could not be happier with our experience. The atmosphere was enjoyable - romantic, charming, and peaceful. The service was very professional, friendly, and prompt. The food was very tasty, well prepared, and served piping hot. It's nice to experience French food without breaking the bank too. The owner was gracious enough to offer a Profiterole dessert on the house for our anniversary celebration. We will be coming back again to this ideal location on Castro Avenue in Mountain View.

Looking for a new Italian/French
Looking for a new Italian/French dining experience, give La Fontaine a try while it's still easy to get in. I appreciated that the kitchen was willing to produce a very good seafood risotto even though only a vegetable risotto was on the menu so my vegetarian wife and I each enjoyed one of our favorite dishes. I also appreciated the owner's careful and correct handling of the wine I brought - you'd be surprised how many "fine" establishments just pop the cork and pour your wine as if it were soda. Dessert (apple tart) was excellent.

French and Italian food done well
This appears to be a relatively new restaurant on Castro St. in downtown Mtn View. We tried it not knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised! Welcoming staff, attentive service and good food. My date had the Salmon Wellington and I the Spaghetti and Meatballs. We shared the La Fontaine arugula salad in advance and found it one of the best we had ever been presented: not too sweet dressing with pomegranate seeds.

What a gem of a restaurant.
What a gem of a restaurant. Love the food, staff and owners.
The goat cheese appetizer is off the charts.
Looking forward to getting back soon.

I took a friend for a birthday lunch this week. It was a quiet, blustery day on Castro St and the restaurant was not as busy as usual. Service was warm, friendly and quietly celebratory -- our server whisper/ sang a happy birthday to her bearing a complimentary desert. She was thrilled, the food was delicious - light yet flavoruful, and we left feeling pampered and a indulged. What not to like?

Good food. Pleasant service!
Wife and I went to la Fontaine for my birthday. Being a vegetarian I was glad to see many choices for me.
I was tempted to try them all. Tried a few and liked them all. ;)
Lighting and music choices were so so. But the waitress service was very good. She was very courteous and even out dessert on the house for me (b'day).
Overall a good choice!!

Menu a little boring
they need to add more variety, especially with pastas. Choices are dated 70's and 80's.
