This restaurant was one of the very best we have ever visited in the US. And now after eating at Coi we feel it is in the same company as our favorites: Per Se, Alinea, Jean Georges, Daniel, Le Bernardin, and Stone Barns. Coi had as much or more to offer than these. The trout roe with smoked egg yolk was amazing, as well as the roasted beets, Mount Lassen trout and beef with squash blossoms. They were all very special and exceptional dishes. The sommelier was extremely knowledgable and helpful and the atmosphere was soothing and beautiful.

The Wine Dinners Are Wonderful
This year, Coi is holding a monthly wine dinner. It is five courses, plus a glass of wine with each course for only $150. The food is the same fabulous food for which Coi is famous, and the wines are perfectly matched with the food. The best deal in San Francisco.

I selected this restaurant as my one big splurge during a recent visit to San Francisco. It was definitely a great choice. The space was elegant in a minimalist way, the service was attentive, and the food absolutely delicious. Every course of the tasting menu was beautiful and unusual, certainly photo-worthy, and the flavors exciting. Although it was a 5-star experience, I do think the price was overly steep, as there were few luxury ingredients and I had a meatless meal. However, if you can afford it, it is worth a detour.

Among the most memorable dining experiences of my entire life. Unique, creative combinations of things I never dreamed could work together (but did!) served by an experienced, knowledgeable, professional and passionate staff. VERY expensive but worth the price!

Great gastronomic experience
Chose a 2 Michelin star as a treat to myself, being a foodie turning 40. The staff were excellent, impeccable service but still charming and at ease. Food was creative and delicious. A fun adventure. It included many ingredients I had never tried (like ice plant, smoked egg yolk, geoduck). 7 course taster plus all the amuse bouche is right amount of food. Food theatre with little surprises at every course. We all left smiling, happy, well fed and with lasting wonderful new culinary memories.

We had only 70 mins for dinner , and somehow they served us everything, including four extra courses. Easily the best service in SFO
7/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were recommended to go to Coi by a foodie friend. The degustation menu exceeded our expectations. There were several stand out dishes of incredible flavor, notably the egg with caviar and the beef coated in ash. Ambience was very serene and waiting staff very accommodating and generous in informing us about the food we were eating and wine we were drinking. An expensive treat but a delightful experience.

Both times I've eaten at Coi
Both times I've eaten at Coi the meat is amazing; once a perfectly cooked lamb chop and the other a delectable beef tenderloin covered in ash. Perfect proteins.

Coi vs Altier Crenn
Having recently spent approximately the same amount of money in dinning at each of these Michelin rated restaurants, I much prefer Coi for fine dining in almost all categories of judging a restaurant, besides parking. Coi was understandably excellent and Crenn was just to tricky with their food to understand what you are eating. Service not even close, as was comfort in seating.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
a fine dining restaurant with outstanding food and comforting service. although it is a little expensive , and i wouldn't say it's 100% worth it, but it's definitely 80% worth it.

Fancy, if not my favourite
Lovely place, nice atmosphere and wait staff. Seasonally picked, tasty food. Came here for a special occaision ($500 for two has to be pretty special for my wallet!). They just get a star off, even though they rang to confirm the meal beforehand and dietary requirements (I'm pescatarian, I noted we were coming for my husbands bday) - then they asked again at the beginning of the meal, and then while at LEAST 5 other tables got a candle on their dessert, my husband didn't. Food was seasonally appropriate, pretty light and delicate. Overall a yummy 8+ course dinner. Loved the whipped coconut with olive oil for dessert, husband loved the ox tail. Probably won't be back, but worth the experience - location on Broadway is a little lacking.
7/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was amazing and unique like an egg yolk infused with ash smoke and topped with cavier on top of creme fraiche. I took my fiancé there for his birthday and we still can't stop talking about some of the dishes. The chef even came out and served one of them himself. That being said, it was very expensive for what it was and the amenities were good but not impeccable which is what I've experienced from other Michelin restaurants ie menu was stained, silverware wasn't polished. Bottom line, great splurge for good foodie experience

Super tasty but pretentious
Superb ingredients allowed to taste as they are and put together into wonderful small dishes. Nice toned down decor. Also rather pretentious. Great service.

imaginative food, excellent service
Excellent food although not quite at the level of other 2 star SF restaurants (Benu, for example). great service. Decor calm and noise muted.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful innovative dishes
Wonderful innovative dishes with incredible flavors. Every dish was perfection. Attentive service that is not overly suffocating. Did have to ask for bread several times.

Wonderful experience, especially
Wonderful experience, especially the first 5 to 6 courses of the menue, which were all veggies or seafood were excellent. The meat was okay. Services was extrelmy friendly also to our kids (12 and 14 years old).

Food was breathtakingly good,
Food was breathtakingly good, creative but always delicious. The staff are tuned-in, friendly and were willing to go that extra mile to make our evening really special. Memorable and worth every penny!

Solid San Francisco Tasting Menu
Solid SF style tasting menu, stellar wine list, and quiet but not stuffy atmosphere.
Service can be slow on busy nights (we were there 3+ hours), but otherwise an excellent dinner for a special occasion.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have wanted to dine here forever but have always failed to secure a reservation. Our experience exceeded all expectations. We were a group of 6 and they put us into the back dining room. Service was excellent. The food was creative and innovative.

Sceptic to Convert
Actually happy for the "bad" reviews of Coi, because they brought my expectations back down to earth.
What a pleasure to have these lowered expectations blown away by the FANTASTIC service and food experience last night at Coi.
Sorry, but I can't think of a thing that the messed up. And while all of the courses were super, at least 3 were taste experiences I didn't think we're possible.
Well worth the money, well worth the time. Don't miss out on this taste experience while you have the opportunity.
@tmgardiner for course pics and details

Absolutely spectacular experience
Coi has been on my list for a while now. I am gliuten intolerant, and asked in advance for them to accommodate this. They called in advance to confirm this was possible. Upon arrival, the menu was well explained and adjusted for our dietary needs.
Service was impeccable. Absolutely beautiful location, food was as expected--amazing. Served in a great pace, great variety and creative dishes. Sommelier made perfect pairings all night.
One of the most memorable dining experiences we've had. Highly recommended.

We loved our experience at Coi. From the moment we walked in, we felt warmly welcomed, and the exceptional service continued throughout the evening. Each dish was prepared to perfection. Highly recommended!
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very creative selection of food but not really worth the high price and location is adjacent to strip joints in San Francisco.

The best grass-fed beef ever!
My boyfriend and I enjoyed an exquisite evening at Coi. While all of the dishes were delightful, artistic, and full of fresh flavors, the plate that I can't stop thinking about was the aged grass-fed beef over charred hay. I have never tasted beef that compares. The memory continues to creep up at odd moments, and I wish I could thank the cow that contributed.
Furthermore, everyone on the Coi staff was quite knowledgeable about each element of the dining experience and their pacing of the meal was impeccable.

My second visit, about five
My second visit, about five years later, revealed a slightly more confident and styled dining experience. This was easily in the top ten of my most memorable dinners in my life.

Ashamed it me so long to visit Coi!
The entire team at Coi Restaurant is amazing. Kate and Zion and their colleagues were awesome in the front of the house, and Chef Daniel Patterson's culinary team just kept sending out one mind-blowing dish after another (fourteen courses total). Everything about the dinner was spectacular (including the design of the restaurant and their interesting dishware, including Heath Ceramics). I also have to say that not only is Chef Patterson a culinary genius, but he is also one of the nicest people I have met! I could review each dish I had, but since the menu changes daily, that wouldn't offer much insight. I will tip my hat to a chef who provides me with multiple "firsts" at a meal: smoked egg yolk, aged Holstein meat, and ice plant. GO!

Benicia Babe Goes to Coi
I think Coi is probably one of the best if not the best restaurant in San Francisco. Where do I begin? The food was literally from San Francisco; sea water, vegetables from the environment. I would describe the tastes as complex but subtle. Never have I tasted trout so good. Never have I tasted lamb so good. The chef takes something like avocado but it ends up tasting unlike any avocado you have ever had. The wait staff was THE BEST IN SAN FRANCISCO and it was just downright fun talking to them. I highly recommend this restaurant if you love food and know great (not just good) food.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great ambiance! Alcohol (not all wines) pairing was amazing! Would highly recommend.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were surprised not to hear of Coi earlier as it's been around for 7 yrs
You can even go for a dessert tasting menu!
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
great, but not perfection
The food is outstanding here as one would expect from this caliber restaurant. Nonetheless, there were unfortunate lags in time between the many courses (I don't recall this happening the previous time we dined here, so it may have been a one-time fluke). The place has a great atmosphere and the wait service is fantastic, but the kitchen staff's timing was a little off at least for us this time.
Wouldn't be so nitpicky but when you're paying several hundreds of dollars you want everything to be spot on. Still would recommend it for special occasions.

One of the best in San Francisco
COi reputation is high, but well deserved. The standard of food creativity and execution is excellent and the original personality of the chef is present in every dish.
A very well balanced menu comes with 2 levels of wine pairing up to the standard and very original.
Definitely a stop foor food lovers.
A bit pricey, but no regrets.
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco.

Coi offers a unique, exquisite experience in dining. No, it's not for everyone. But if it's for you, you will feel like someone is speaking your own secret, gorgeous language. It feels a little like heaven, with champagne glasses magically filled by attentive and darling servers. It's hushed inside, the ambiance feels something like an inclusive secret. And the food... mamma mia... so creative and impeccable, it will have you writing things like "grape ice with sea salt" into your next business deal.
We had an incredible, unforgettable meal. I will be back for more.

First, Second & Third Time, A Charm
We always end our evening at Coi with a tinge of sadness, but that is tempered by the elation of having had beautifully presented, innovatively conceived, perfectly crafted, food that fills the mouth with pleasure. The sadness is at having to leave and wait another year before we can return for another meal. From the moment one enters, through the masterful meal, to the closing of the door to leave, we felt welcome and appreciated--none of the attitutude that one might find in a restaurant of this caliber. We only have another year to wait for our next superb dining evening.

Notable top dining experience
This is definitely one of our top dining experiences. A couple of the course were not to our taste, but we're presented artfully and can anyone truly expect to "like" everything. We would recommend Coi to all of our foodie friends. Thanks

Fine Dining - I Mean Really Fine
An expensive meal well worth the money. Perfect for our group of 5 in a private room. Our guests were New Yorkers who are the definition of Foodies and they were properly amazed and delighted with the whole scene. The food, the ambiance, the service, all perfect.
And to cap off the evening, their taxi and my valet parked car are waiting at the front door.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is so imaginative yet so simple... The aim seems to be to bring out the essential flavor of the basic ingredients. A simple lamb chop is so different that you wonder why you never had one like that before... Wine list is stunning. Service impeccable! The extremely modest and unassuming Chef Patterson came out to serve a dish! Unheard of in other restaurants with "star" chefs! The ambience is extremely calm in the ample space that Coi offers with its limited number of seats...

What Daniel Patterson is doing at Coi is one of the most unforgettable experience one might have. Food is amazing, bringing new techniques to classic dishes, enhancing the comensal whole experience. Service at Coi is very impressive, 2/3 michelin stars easily.

excellent restaurant. food
excellent restaurant. food is presented well and tastes did not disappoint. service was outstanding.
we did the wine pairing and enjoyed all of the wines. appreciated the time the staff took talking to us and answering our questions.

We had a wonderful time. The food was brilliant. Our waiter was fantastic. The sommelier was very helpful. The lamb was the best we ever had. Chef patterson controlled the meal like a master conduct. He's much bigger in person. He must enjoy his food as much as we did.

Clean flavours and imaginative cuisine in this gem of a San Francisco restaurant ! Unobtrusive and knowledgable service in a comfortable setting ........a must for any serious diners and people loving great food !

Delicious but Not Worth Price
The food at Coi is innovative and delicious. Just hard to swallow minimum $175 per person when there are so many other fabulous restaurants in the city. And the decor is hideous. Felt like I transported back to the early 2000s.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent All Around
Went there for a special occasion, which the staff took note of by congratulating us and offering additional small dishes. They also gave us some champagne on the house, and when the coffee took longer than expected, they put that on the house as well. The only experience I've had with a level of service like this was at Gary Danko; they were very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about the food and the wine list. It seemed that our having a great experience was genuinely important to them. The food was outstanding, although to fully appreciate it I would think that your palate would have to be more refined than mine. Overall, it was a great meal, and I do recommend Coi for a special occasion - just be prepared to spend some money.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
The neighborhood is not nice at all, but the restaurant is great . I really love the chef Patterson

Coi was amazing, their menu
Coi was amazing, their menu was really diverse and creative. I can't really think of any way to improve and I wouldn't change anything.

Coi consistenly has the most
Coi consistenly has the most creative and thoughtful food in SF. We have never been served the same dish twice in the many times we have eaten here. It is very expensive - but not compared to comparable restaurants and comparable tasting menus.
I would strongly recommend them for someone who is looking for a more unusual meal that stretches their tasting experiences and budget. It is our favorite restaurant in SF when we want an experience vs just a night out.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
We took a friend to Coi for a special occasion - just getting together socially. The food was outstanding! The restaurant was very quiet the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but those who were there were getting great service, and a variety of perfectly prepared and presented dishes. We're very happy to have been there, and look forward to a reason to return!
