We went for dinner and had a fantastic meal. I'd order almost everything again: the apps (sticky rice, fried rice and spring roll lettuce wraps), mains (grilled fish and an off-the-menu item we saw at another table) and dessert (rice pudding) were all delicious. I liked the beef jerky app, but IMO the strips were too thick given its texture, and even though you are encouraged to eat with your hands, it seems better suited as an upscale snack than restaurant app.
The servers were very warm, and happy to explain as much (or as little, I presume) about Laotian food and the restaurant as we wanted. I usually tip mostly out of a sense of obligation, but was glad to exceed that here. A tad pricey for me to be a regular, but we'll def. return!

Love this place! Everything was delicious and the service was great! Just one tip: Don't fill up on all the rice!

lacks any vegetarian choices and substitutions not possible.

The former Duane Park restaurant has been transformed beyond recognition into this compact Vietnamese place. The ambiance is fairly dark and the tables are set pretty close. The result is quite a high noise level as the place is very popular with a youngish crowd. Although our table was not ready when we arrived the staff handled it extremely graciously and were apologetic and attentive to the fact that we were waiting.
The food is very good, with a lot of interesting flavors and combinations. You are advised that with some foods, using the hands is the most satisfying way to eat and this is true. Prices are 'moderate Manhattan' and we felt the experience was very good and value for money. We would certainly return there.

Highly recommended! Fresh and tasty
Great food with seamless service! They did their best to accommodate our gluten-free and peanuts-free requests and brought things on a side so that everyone can enjoy the food.

Great Lao Restaurant!
After working at another Lao Restaurant for a year and having been to Laos, I was excited to try Khe-Yo. I was very impressed with the authenticity of the food. We tried the Rock Cornish Chicken, Papaya Salad, Crunchy Coconut Rice, Bamboo Grilled Ginger Quail, Pork Jowl Red Curry and the Lemon Berkshire Spare Ribs. Everything was outstanding and very authentic. The papaya salad was authentically spicy, but definitely on point!
The service was also incredible. We really enjoyed Brandon and absolutely loved the rest of the staff, too. Our table was ready when we arrived, but the hosts were gracious and found space for us at the bar.
Overall, an outstanding experience. I can't wait to come back and bring more of my Lao friends!

Great service, incredible food, very helpful with some reservation problems, just a beautiful experience all around.

The best meal I've had in the past couple of years. While I usually go to dinner for the company, the food, the entertainment, this was all of the above. However, here, it all started with the food. Amazing! Out of the ordinary with flavors so big, bold and refreshing that you felt like you traveled to another country. Interestingly, the tastes were so vibrant and satisfying that we left feeling totally satisfied and complete without the typical weighed down feeling. The people were exceptionally nice, especially for my NY homeland. Thank you for the ticket to Laos that got us home in 20 minutes. Congrats!!! to this team and to Forgione's vision.

Excellent service from all
Excellent service from all staff. I would feel comfortable trying everything on the menu. Flavors were fresh, vibrant, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Wine list is a perfectly small & thoughtful selection. Laos food is so fun to eat with your hands, their logo of the sticky rice pot is perfect. I highly recommend this true gem of a new restaurant.

Cocktails are delicious, wait staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurant is small so tables are very close to each other and noise level is kind of high. Menu is relatively small but spot on, everything we ordered was very tasty.

Unique, charming, and fun
The food is great, the service is great, and the space is great. Well done.

Great Tribeca Find
Was flying solo in NYC and went to Khe Yo on the recommendation of a friend. Great food and service. Too much food for 1 and I ran out of gas mid-way through the entree. The rib-eye appetizer and duck salad were amazing. The chili prawns (which I ordered because the waiter said it was the smallest entree, were very good. Nice rich broth, but I was stuffed by then and didn't really get the max enjoyment. Very nice evening with an outstanding staff.

Delicious and exotic food
The following dishes are rightfully recommended by the waiter: Beef jerky, crispy coconut rice and the hotplate with sizzling beef (daily special). Those are very tasty and can be made as spicy as you want it.
The braised porkbelly is slightly more adventurous. Let the waiter show you how to eat it (or rather how the chef himself eats it), it makes a world of difference.
The tables are very close to eachother. And the atmosphere is a bit hectic.

Not perfect this time, still great
My first visit was one of the most memorable meals I've had, with perfect service, food and atmosphere. We went soon after Khe-yo opened and enjoyed an off-the-menu special (the pig's head that has since been added to the occasional "official" specials) and just the right amount of attention from the staff and chef, who paid a visit to our table. This meal felt more run-of-the-mill, albeit still very very good; the previous one would be admittedly tough to replicate. I had the grilled bass and coconut rice again, which didn't disappoint, but the chili prawns were very-good-but-not-great (and the portion size without the bread was somewhat small), and the fluke salad was also good but I probably won't order it again. I will be back!

Interesting, flavorful, wonderful!
I had a wonderful meal at Khe Yo - everything was delicious! Outstanding combination of flavors, tastes, combinations...The sticky rice was amazing and i loved eating it Laotian style! Our waiter was knowledgeable about the food and wine as well - i loved the sake with my dinner! i will DEFINITELY eat here again and again!

Loved the food. Perfect amount of spices. Adored the presentation. Hostess could have been more polite though waiter was great. Defo going back. The chef's take on Laotian food is so clever and it was refreshing to have those flavours and combos.

MF didnt let me down
I am a big fan of this chef and I was nervous to come to this restaurant because I really dont like 'trendy' places with annoying hipsters hanging about... However I am happy I finally went. MF is able to take a great cuisine and make it fun and approachable and laid back, no attitude, nice clientele. I was totally impressed and the food was flipping fantastic. You can't go wrong - now that being said I did go mid week on the early side intentionally to avoid crowds, so I cant speak for what a Saturday night feels like. Regardless I loved it.

A very different and exotic food experience - a lot of fun and a place to go to with anyone who is adventurous. Outstanding service. Not for vegetarians!

I took my wife here for a date on our 3rd year anniversary. The stickey rice with sauce was like eating a meal on it's own. The Chef was wonderful and really prepeared and excellent meal. My wife is a strick veggie and healthy eater. I have adopted some of her habbits, however like Willie/Duck Dynasty i enjoy the finest quality of meats, poultry and beef jerky. I ended up eating most of my wife food along with all of mine. The drink list was great and offered a variety of drinks for the experienced cocktail lovers such as my wife. I always know when she enjoys a great cocktail. Thanks guys,

Best new restaurant
This is the best food that I have had in weeks! Eating at Khe-yo was the first time that I've had Laotian food and I loved it. The dishes have incredible flavors. My favorites were the duck and the crunchy rice. Definitely ask the server how to eat the dishes.

My new fav
From the moment we walked in, we loved it. The decor was minimal yet cozy. All staff were friendly and attentive. The sticky rice was great. Everything was so flavorful and creative. The menu was small, but everything was done extremely well. Highly recommend the crispy coconut rice appetizer and the black bass entree!!
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Overall excellent experience
Only problem was the entrees were too salty. The hostess came over and took it off the check bc she realized we didnt eat the chicken at all.
EXCELLENT service, great drinks, GREATTT sticky rice.
Id go back

Very tasty food
Very well spiced dishes, I particularly liked the black bass. And they offer meals to share, which is what I really like. The sticky rice indeed tastes best when you it it with your hands, although I would have enjoyed a little bit more variety for the "dips" (the eggplant dip was a bit bland while the hot sauce was killer-spicy.
One of the colleagues I went with is vegetarian and they do not have anything vegetarian on the menu but the chef prepared special appetizers and main courses for him (they are apparently used to that).

This one was one of the best
This one was one of the best Asian restaurants I had been to in the city. The food is unique and has a wide range of flavors. It's definitely different from the other SE Asian restaurants I've been to in the city. I would recommend most of my friends try this place at least once.
Wait was a little bit long even though we had a reservation (have been wanting to go for a while, but it's always booked out). They made up for it with some great complimentary dishes. The spicy dishes are very spicy even for a person who can stand a lot of spicy food - be warned.
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lively food and atmosphere.
Khe-Yo is a welcome addition to TirBeCa. We were a party of four and we shared many dishes and enjoyed all of them. The flavors were unusual and varied. There was just the right amount of heat and spice, but watch out for the papaya salad, very spicy...but that was fine for us. Service was helpful and efficient. We went early and the noise level rose as the meal progressed and the restaurant filled up. Look forward to returning.

literally amazing food partially dented by acoustics that make it hard to enjoy a conversation
why cant NYC ever get this balance right?
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Sweet and spicy
The food was amazing and hit a flavor profile that was very new to me. I loved the blend between spicy and sweet, and highly recommend Khe-Yo. If you like Thai food, but are willing to take a step outside of the box, this is the place to go! I'm completely turned onto Laotian food now.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Amazing food and cocktails- creative and approachable menu- love the focused amount of entrees and appetizers. Great spice. Somewhat limiting for diners who don't eat pork.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
One of the best restaurants
One of the best restaurants in New York - so much flavor and depth in each dish! Watch out for the Thai chillies, though. They aren't kidding when they say a dish is spicy.

The best Asian meal I've had!
I LOVE this place. Everything we ordered was perfect! The steamed rice with bang bang sauce and roasted eggplant was better than any bread basket I have ever had! The grilled quail on a stick was so tender and flavorful. The whole black bass with fresh and delicate. The chili prawns were perfectly cooked and the sauce with also amazing on the sticky rice.
I can't wait to go back!!!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nice change of pace.
How often do adults get to play with their food? The sticky rice was lots of fun! There are few choices for pescatarians like me. The black bass was yummy!
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
Spicy (in a good way) and very fun
Great spot. Brought my brother and his wife who were visiting from out of town, so we'd have something more unique than NYC italian or a steakhouse. The food was seriously good. Very unique flavors. The jumbo prawns were outrageous. Couple dishes were a little over the top, like the bone marrow, but still solid.

Had another great dinner at Khe-Yo last night. I'm not typically an "adventurous" eater, but went on the recommendation of a friend originally. Ever since, I've been dreaming about those crispy coconut rice balls. I went with two other people, and we just ordered everything to share for the table. A mushroom ramen was an addition to the menu last night - delicious!

Who wants to be called a "Foodie"?
First of all, I'm offended by the designation "Fit for Foodies"
This is a delightful restaurant to enjoy dining on exciting Asian cusiine.
The ambience was casual and the service was friendly and attentive,
We dine at restaurants for the food and the experience, not because some adle-brained person thinks we're "foodies"
What a stupid term and I wouldn't listen to the ignorant advice of anyone who considers themselves to be a "foodie".
We will definately go back and highly recommend Khe-Yo to anyone who isn't afraid of a little spice and an enjoyable evening.

Great Service and EXCELLENT food!
I went with my family of 6 for my birthday dinner, and the waiter was incredibly attentive (I have a gluten allergy), and so friendly. Made for a great dining experience, and the food was absolutely delicious! My grandfather (who tends to be a bit grumpy lol) absolutely RAVED about this place to his friends afterwards- and this is sometone who basically picks at his food at best, and doesn't eat very much when we dine out- he ate the ENTIRE grilled fish by himself, WITH the peanut sauce! Really great night out....
