We dined here on a Friday evening & it was fairly busy with the service being good. Their wine selection was fair but we thought that it was somewhat minimal. We had the cheese plate which was very good & we also had the filet & one of tha pasta dishes. Both were well prepared & had good flavor. Overall it was a good dining experience with the only negative being that we thought that it was overly expensive for a wine bar.

Great spot - seek it out!
Bluestem is tucked away behind French Meadow and you enter through a side door on the south side of the building. The food is quite creative and the servings generous. We tried the scallops which were perfectly cooked on a bed of cabbage and peppers with a nice, lightly spicy Thai chili vinaigrette. The daily fish - opah, and chicken piccata specials were a hit as were the fish tacos. The prices are very reasonable and the space is beautifully decorated and welcoming. Good beer and wine selection too. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Another win for French Meadow!
Love the ambience/decor and menu at Bluestem, and will definitely be returning! Feels upscale yet comfortable and warm. Also a cute outdoor dining area.

My New Favorite Restaurant
I've been to Bluestem twice now for dinner and I can't say enough about the excellent food. The place is beautifully designed and welcoming. There is parking just south of the building. The mussels were amazing, and I don't normally care for mussels. The tenderloin steak is some of the best I've ever had, anywhere. Save room for dessert because this place has the best in town. And to top it all off, the prices are reasonable.

Food: good, Service: a tad
Food: good, Service: a tad slow, but servers were pleasant and eager to help when they were available, not many people at 6:00, perhaps more of a late night watering hole, attractive surroundings, very noisy. I'd go back for an early dinner...can't address what happens fat lunch or for the late crowd.

Great new neighborhood spot
If you like interesting menus and decor, try this. Good for foodies and all organic, etc. A bit hard to find (tucked behind French Meadow) but worth it.

This restaurant is very hard to find -- it's hidden at the side of French Meadow -- but if you make it there, beware of the step down off the parking lot. It's a trip hazard. Also beware of the fish tacos -- really tasty, but very little fish.

This gem inside the French
This gem inside the French Meadow restaurant on Lyndale is lovely to look at and the food is delicious, especially at the price point. The blackened fish tacos is a great meal for $10, the salads are delicious, and the frite are fabulously addictive. And the tenderloin satisfied my beef craving.
And for those who eat gluten free, the place is a real find; multiple choices even for dessert. The service was friendly and attentive; and, on my first visit, at our request, very fast.

Several reviewers have mentioned that service was slow...not so at all. Bluestem is a great place. Neighborhood vibe with sophisticated food. Great wine list and wine flights, same for the beer program. Dont miss the beer flights.
We started with a flatbread that ws very good. The crust is a bit pastry like, but very light and crispy. I had the blackened fish tacos which were great and came with greens and slaw. My companion had the Trout which was quite fresh and tasty.
I only wish I had room for desert as it all looked and sounded like one of the things they do best.
Dont miss the oportunity to dine here. Dine here NOW you wont be sorry

Two Visits - Two Winners
We've live in Uptown and have been to Blue Stem twice. It's a very cool little restaurant, though the connection through and with French Meadow is a bit strange and confusing. The side entry to the restaurant itself could use a little work, but once inside, the décor is great. Friendly, efficient staff. Our party of four really enjoyed the fish tacos, omelet, Thai chicken sandwich, French fries & flourless chocolate cake with coffee ice cream (though the ice cream didn't have much coffee flavor). Wish Blue Stem had a full bar, but that's OK. I would recommend this - great neighborhood addition! Gluten-free options appreciated.

food you can count on
You can always rely on French Meadow and Bluestem for great and healthy food. The Bluestem was also great atmoephere and I love the booths. They are so much better for conversation.

Delicious and so many options
Tons of great options to fit within my dietary constraints (gluten free, soy free). And amazingly delicious. Will plan on going back.

Nicely appointed dining room,
Nicely appointed dining room, although there are relatively few full booths. I like the wine rack wall splitting the nice, fairly active bar area apart from the rear seating area.
The Lemon & Black Pepper Cashews go well with a decently broad selection of draft and bottled beers. The wine list is pretty limited, with those available by the glass at the lower end of the quality spectrum.
We split the garlicky hummus plate, sauteed greens, and fish tacos, which filled us up. Service was a bit spotty, but they got the job done on a moderately busy Friday evening.

Give it a try
The food is great and the dessert choices are amazing. Good menu selection with a nice casual atmosphere. Do not need to dress up and you can get bakery items to go on your way out.

Great place, array of food choices.
Our party of three had different food choices and none were disappointed. Blue Stem has a large selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free items so it can accommodate many diners. Our only disappointment was the noise level. We would have liked it a little more quiet.

Not the best brunch I've tasted, but the food was solid. We ordered a specialty sausage- that was over priced. Also, the hemp toast tasted terrible in my opinion. Otherwise, nice place. Cool birch trees hung on the wall and the bar would be a great option to hang out at. I feel like eggs Benedict can me the mark of a good restaurant, and they did it well!

Interesting place. Good food and drinks. A little out of the main area of Minneapolis (I was there for a conference at the convention center and was suggested to go to this restaurant, but it was an expense to take a taxi).
A little disappointed that the price of my meal was a lower on the menu than on the bill I received. Good thing I noticed.

Hostess seated only 6 out of 8 of us...and was waiting for the table next to us to leave, to get 2 more seating. Awkward! Food was wonderful, great crowd of people. Would absolutely go back, but maybe not with a big group. Seemed they had a hard time with that.

This was my second visit to
This was my second visit to Bluestem, first time for brunch was great food and a comfortable booth toward the rear of the room. This return was for dinner; food was great, though table near side door was occasionally chilly. First rate service, well prepared fresh food make this neighborhood gem worth a visit.

This is a great new spot to dine or get drinks or dessert in the Twin Cities. You will not be disappointed!

The food and vibe of the restaurant was nice. I was looking for a non-alcoholic drink (other than a soda) and there weren't any on the menu. The waitress and I talked and she asked me what I was looking for in a drink. I told her and she said that she thought she could make something up in back for me. The drink was great and I liked the engagement I had with her.
What she suggested for my entree was awesome: steamed mussels in a great broth-sauce! The amount of mussels I was given was great. Enough for dinner! Thank you, to our waitress.

Very good, could have been great
Slow service made the difference. I will try again because the food was great (although not hot, in my case) in the hope that the slow and elusive service was not the norm.
Trout and chicken were delicious. Good beer selection.

Best choice for any occasion!
The salmon entree is perfection each time. When it comes to the details of the menu, the coffee, the desserts, this too is beyond anything else I've experienced in a restaurant. All the cozy booths are an additional bonus for long, private conversations with friends or romantic dates. No attitude, just excellent food and good service.
