We will be returning
Whenever we go to theater on the east side we consider Sel et Poivre. It has not disappointed. The wine list (for us) offers numerous choices. The menu selections are wide enough to satisfy us repeatedly. Once again we over ate but managed to swallow our guilt completely.

Nice place for lunch
We were a group of friends and were able to each select what we want, some from the a la carte menu, some from the prix fixe menu. There was a nice selection and the food was excellent. It was good value for a nice lunch.

Recently had lunch at Sel et Poivre and could not stop raving about it. The food was delicious and beautifully displayed the service was impeccable. It was a friendly lovely little restaurant and I can't wait to try it for dinner. I highly recommend this neighborhood gem either for a meal between friends or trying to make an impression with a client.

This was the second time for me at Sel & Poivre and I was very happy both times. My friends loved it too. I would definitely recommend the place. I had the pre-fixe lunch menu and it was delicious, portions just right.

Great french food
Great french food - so hard to find anymore. This restaurant is one of the few remaining restaurants that really serve french food.
The food is always fresh, delicious and served with a smile.

Wonderful consistent French bistro
Everything they do, they do well. The staff are attentive. The food quality is consistently high. Good selection of alcohol. Paris in the heart of New York City.

A neighborhood gem!
Sel et Poivre has a wonderful menu, including one of my favorites - frogs legs - that are not too easy to find. The food is superb and the staff is very attentive. It is always a wonderful dining experience!

Four of us ladies enjoyed a delightful Sunday brunch . The restaurant was very convenient for the 59 East 59th Street theatre which we were attending for the matinee performance. Will certainly keep it in mind for any time I am in the area.

A Lovely Birthday
For many years, my wife and I had been wanting to try Sel et Poivre, but, for a number of logistical or geographic reasons, never got around to doing so. A very significant birthday seemed a perfect opportunity to have our first experience and six close relatives were invited to share that experience. Happily, it turned out to be a lovely time in every way. Making a reservation was simple and we were given a beautiful table. With only one exception (the steak in one guest's steak frites order was a bit tough and undercooked), the food was very good. High praise was given for duck a l'orange, salmon, risotto, mussels, crepes, and frites. Bread and fruit sorbets were absolutely wonderful. Staff efficient and excellent ambiance. We'll be back!

Sel et Poivre
Always a delight to eat here - as soon as you walk through the front door you are immediately transported to France.

Coq au vin disappointing
I enjoy this restaurant for the ambiance, the civilized crowd, the very authentic Frenchness of the whole thing and the food, but this time my dinner was not up to par. The coq au vin was overcooked. The chicken was dry, the sauce gelatinous -- as though it had been sitting on a burner for waaaaay to long. There was also precious little sauce to begin with, as if the kitchen staff had to scrape the bottom of the pot to get enough to plate. Nothing to mix with the mashed potatoes and, well, isn't that was sauce is for? Everything else, like anything else I've ever ordered here, was just fine. My dining companion had the calves kidneys and loved it. His salade des haricots verts was excellent and the chocolate dessert yummy. I will go back.

We hadn't been here in a while,
We hadn't been here in a while, and I guess we need to put it on the "go more often" list. The food is always consistent and good, and the service is pleasant and attentive. It does get an older crowd, so it tends not to be noisy (which is great, as I hate shouting across the table)

They are so nice!
I've going to Sel et Poivre for almost 15 years and the staff has not changed. This is such a great testimony to a well-run establishment. They are so warm and welcoming.

We had Sunday lunch for two couples. Two of us were returning, and two of us were new to the restaurant. We ordered the prix-fixe lunch for $18.95. For appetizers among the four of us, we had zucchini soup, green bean salad, and mesclun salad. All were excellent. For entrees, three of us had grilled salmon with green beans and white beans, and one of us had the fettucine. Our first-time visiting friend said it was the best salmon she had ever eaten. We agreed. We loved the preparation. For dessert, we ordered mango sorbet, profiterole, and the chocolate mousse. All the preparations were appealing and delectable. In sum, we had a delightful, delicious lunch. Our friends (and we as well) definitely plan to return.

Perfect spot for lunch with friends
It is the perfect place for a leisurely lunch to catch up with friends or great for after shopping, etc. It was busy but not overly crowded or loud. The dining room was very comfortable and relaxed and staff didn't rush us to order, etc. We had the omelet with fries and the chicken salad, both were good. There were a few other items on the menu that I would like to try and the creams brûlée was delicious!!

Everything was very good and we enjoyed our dinner very much. But the place could use a bit of refurbishing.

This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant; the menu I'd quite varied and consistently delicious!
Wonderful staff and the prices are very reasonable for NYC. They enjoy a loyal following.

I go often and think that I am back in France although I speak Spanish to the waiters and struggle in German with one of the owners. Adore the place.
