Solid restaurant with nice service.
We needed a place between W New Jersay and the city. We had a nice meal that started with a delicious amuse bouche: roasted brussel sprouts with meyer lemon zest and balsamic. We started with salads that were HUGE. I recommend splitting the salads. For entrees, two of us had the juicy pork chop. One had the snapper in a nice fish broth and another had a great agnolotti with fresh peas. We cleaned our plates. The service was formal and attentive. My only issue is with the atmosphere. The music was silly soft jazz & too loud. The tablecloths and flowers are PURPLE! The decor made me feel like I was in NJ while the service made me feel like I was in NYC. Would love to see a few white tablecloths to break up the sea of purple.

We have been to all of the highest-rated restaurants in NJ. While this place is small (only seats about 35), and while the decor is modest, the food is superb. Home made pasta dishes all creative and exceptional. Appetizers and desserts the same. Really an elite gem with a friendly staff & talented chef. On par with the best of them.

Creative, Sophisticated Food
Giovanni's is a wonderful find in Berkeley Heights. My husband and I have been there twice, and each time the food was creative and delicious. Chef Michael works magic in the kitchen, creating interesting dishes from fresh and local ingredients. Last time we were there, we tried the Seared Scallops (the best sear ever! with a nice tangy blood orange reduction), the artichoke appetizer (great mix of perfectly prepared artichokes with roasted cauliflower) and arugula salads. My husband had the agnolotti pasta (best ever he said!) and I had a perfectly seared and wonderfully fresh tuna entree with charred corn. The service is professional and friendly. We'll be back!

The staff caters to your every need
The ingredients are fresh and truly first-rate, and the food is well-prepared, but what sets this Giovanni's apart is the attentive service. You feel like a guest, not a customer. We've made two visits and we'll make more.

A NJ Favorite!!
My husband and I were lucky to have been able to book a last minute reservation through Open Table on Saturday night. I had heard from friends that the food was delicious and wanted to see for myself. From the minute we were greeted by an attentive personable waiter, I sensed we were not going to be disappointed! My husband order the seared scallop appetize that was excellent and the pork chop entre that was a real winner! I had the fresh mozzarella appetizer that melted in my mouth and the salmon entre that was cooked to perfection! Although the basil yogurt served with berries was a bit confusing, we both loved our meal and can't wait to go back. I would rate our meal at Giovanni's one of the best we've had in NJ in a long time.

Lovely new restaurant -Berkeley Hts
We had a lovely dinner at Giovanni's in Berkeley Heights. The menu is small but had some interesting dishes. The scallops appetizer was delicious. My husband loved the shrimp stew (even though the shrimp still had their heads and eyes). The Osso Bucco was good but could have been more flavorful. The eggplant and chick pea sides were excellent. For dessert we shared the lemon curd with raspberries, pistachio nuts and shortbread which was delicious. They could have given a little more of the lemon curd though.

For appetizers, we ordered the beet salad, followed by a second appetizer, the seared scallops. Our entree was a special that night, the halibut. And for dessert, we ordered the zeppole, something we enjoyed in the past only at the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy. Each course was a bit of culinary heaven. For wine, we ordered the Chardonnay, which suited the meal perfectly. Service was attentive and friendly, without being overbearing. And the greeting by the host upon our arrival set the tone of a special dining experience to come. All in all, we wouldn't hesitate to return--and bring friends!

Lots of love and attention
Has gone into developing this restaurant. Attractive setting w. violet shadings but a little cramped. Well trained and personable staff.
Modest size menu w. some excellent offerings. Wonderful addition to this small town.

Great local Italian food
Warm, friendly service provided by knowledgeable staff. We shared several appetizers. All were excellent. Especially liked the pasta and the melon. Fish was cooked perfectly. We will be back. Very good experience

A group of 4 went for lunch, we enjoyed the food, ambience, service and all had a good time! Now we all want to go back with significant others for dinner. In my mind that means it is a hit!

Great place. I am a frequent customer. The manager is young and not very experienced. He could use some training in customer service. Nice kid just inexperienced.

Both the meal and service
Both the meal and service were exceptionally good. Helpful and attentive wait staff. Had the short rib which was perfect and my wife the pork chop which was generous in size and properly prepared. The tomato and mozzarella salad was an excellent starter.

New Favorite Spot
My wife and I tried Giovanni's for the first time this past summer. The restaurant's decor is pretty simple so we didn't expect much, but we were absolutely blown away. A lot of the food is locally sourced, the menu is diverse, and the meals are simply fantastic. We've been back maybe six times already, and we always come away extremely satisfied. We recently had the black cod special. The fish was cooked to perfection over a bed of sauteed red peppers, with an accompaniment of delicious potato croquettes.
Dominic the General Manager does a great job of keeping the operation running smoothly and making you feel at home. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes fresh, consistent, and finely prepared food.

Restaurant should lower lights as we felt it was
too bright for dinner. Votives on tables would be
nice. It is an excellent spot. Food was inventive.

A lovely evening as usual
Gracious greeting. Personable & competent staff. Small but well prepared menu. An additional cook has been added to the kitchen staff so I look forward to some new menu items which are needed for repeat clients. Impressive wine list w. knowledgable Dominick . This is one of the very few local restaurants to have a cheese plate. The brilliant savarin is perfect!

Well prepared, but a bit pricey
Giovanni's was highly rated, so we tried it out. The food preparations were all a bit "different" with various flavors, and very tasty - well beyond what I find time to cook at home, and that is what I look for. The menu was a bit small, but so is the restaurant. I would check the menu before going, as it was different from what I saw on Open Table, but rest assured that whatever is on it will be well prepared, with interesting flavors.

We are so fortunate that this little gem offers truly outstanding cuisine, with warm, friendly and highly educated service, in Berkeley Heights. Who ever would have thought? Food as good as Ninety Acres, at a fraction of the cost. I can't wait to take ALL my friends here before the excellent NYTimes review makes it impossible to get a table. Domenic and his team make the small intimate space feel like you're in their home. A truly wonderful dining experience.

My husband and I are both foodies, but have two kids. The dilema, we don't want to eat at chain restaurants and get sub-par food. The solution, leave the kids home and have date night at Giovanni's Bistro. The service was top notch, especially for me who cooks ans serves at home all the time. The food, the reason I eat out, is excellently prepared. The menu is a bit limited in terms of selection, but perhaps that is because the chef knows what he does well. Go to Giovanni's, you won't be disappointed.

Went because I saw it written up
I went here for my birthday because I saw it written up in the NY times. Its a small newer restaurant in the town next to me. There is limited to no parking, but we found some on the street. We went on a Wed. night so the restaurant was quite and peaceful and we enjoyed a lovely dinner. The staff was kind and attentive. The food was very good and well portioned. The menu was small but we found something for all of us. We would try it again

It was our first time at Giovanni"s. Totally enjoyed the meal. The cocktail menu was unimaginative but the drinks were good. Waiter was very friendly. The restaurant is cute. Just the right size for a small neighborhood restaruant. Looking forward to going back.

In the Middle of Nowhere
In the middle of nowhere, NJ, you will find this cafe/bistro offering the best of everything. The service was warm, friendly and professional. The wine list is small, but perfectly fine. The food, is fabulous!! The chef's starter of brussel sprouts, is amazing, even to someone who is not a lover of sprouts. You'll smile and enjoy this gem.

Pleasing to all
We had a wonderful dinner Saturday night. My husband is very picky and he gave it the thumbs up. He raved about the pumpkin soup. All four at our table had a wonderful meal and will return.

Took a new client here and all was great. Everyone found an item on the menu that proved excellent and the small dining room made it intimate. I chose the hamburger!

I met my cousin at Giovanni's and had a wonderful time. Not only was the service outstanding, but the food was just perfect. The beet salad was absolutely delicious! The mushroom burger was scrumptious. I requested that no bun and quite frankly I never missed it as it was served with a delicious greens mixture on the side which made it a perfect dish for lunch. My cousin had the Granny Smith salad with Chicken and found it to be one of the best salads she'd had in a very long time. I will be back as well as my cousin. A great addition to the downtown Berkeley Heights area!

First time visit
Our party of four hand a great experience. We were seated promptly and service was attentive. The food was very good with the dessert a particular standout. We will be going back as it is a nice new alternative to what has become fairly stale local restaurant scene in BH.

A wonderful restaurant
Even though a small and cozy restaurant ,the décor is warm and inviting with tablecloths and a small vases of fresh flowers.
What a nice touch. The menu both lunch and dinner are well selected by chef Michael. The food is delicious and beautifully presented.
The waiters are well trained and very knowledgeable in their profession.A really great place to dine!

Hospitality is gracious &
Hospitality is gracious & warm. Service is excellent. Food quality is very good and nicely plated. Obviously the kitchen has talents....however, if you want to dine here frequently you are thwarted by the rather limited menu. The amuse bouche (Brussels sprouts) is good but served since September, it is no longer 'amus'ing. The apps tend towards salads (all very good) but it is winter and the additional of several warm apps would be appreciated. The entree items are few and only the exact preparation is tweaked a bit. Additional entrees or weekly/daily specials would be a welcome additional Dessert menu is not enticing. So I would like to see this restaurant which I love grow a little now that it has found its feet.

Fabulous dining experience - service excellent also.
The pasta with bolognese sauce was as good as I've had in Italy.
Very creative menu.
Can't wait to return.

Outstanding food and service!
What a pleasant suprise! The food was outstanding as was the service. Seafood fresh and interesting preparation. Somewhat pricey, but as a foodie, well worth it. Very tight seating in a small space. Decor somewhat 80's but don't let it fool you. Great dining experience.
