This pop-up of the future
This pop-up of the future Maketto is an experience not to be missed. There are still reservations for later in the night and another month will open up soon.
I loved the fixed menu and the dim sum cart added small bites. I ordered everything available and It was all great. The shrimp heads were a highlight for me but I love the steam buns as well.
If this is a true preview of Maketto on H, then expect another hit from the team behind Toki Underground.

Wonderful and Diverse!
So many dishes to try that were all so delicious. The staff was really friendly and took great care of us. Great decor and seating options too. We'd definitely recommend this to friends and are looking forward to go back!

Great for the adventurous eater
I went to Hanoi House for the Marketto takeover and had a nice and eclectic 7 course meal. For those who don't know, the Marketto takeover featured a different menu daily. we didn't order any of our food. It was just brought out and explained in detail by our servers. I loved that I didn't know what we were having next and each course was a new surprise to savor.
Some things the entire table loved, like the spicy papaya salad, and other like a tamarind soup, were not as popular, but we had a fun dinner and it was ridiculously affordable at $30 a person.
A note on reservations, you can only book for a max number of 4 people. It stressed me out trying to book a table for 5. We ended up seated on tables next to each other.

Hanoi house is hosting Maketto. Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki underground does an amazing job. Every dish on the tasting menu was delicious.

A lovely evening at Hanoi House
Amaaazing experience. Food was incredible. Service was impeccable. Drinks were interesting and delicious. And the price was right! $30 a head for a really fine 6-7 course meal is the steal of the century. Have been telling everyone about it and recommending it as well. Great job!

The ambience was great. Everyone was pretty attentive and I never felt rushed or crowded in. The food was fantastic! Wish I had a cheat sheet so I knew what I was eating. Some of the servers need to be more confident when presenting our food. But overall it was a delightful experience and I look forward to dining there again!

Maketto Pop-Up at Hanoi
To be clear, this review is for the Maketto pop-up at Hanoi House and not the normal menu at Hanoi, which I have yet to taste. I thought overall, the experience was great. Of the seven courses included in the price, I thought that 3-4 were excellent, 1-2 were very good and I did not care for 2 of the dishes. That said, others at my table liked some of the dishes I did not care for and vice versa. I think the flavors are very unique (at least for me as someone who has never had Cambodian food), so part of the dislike is more because of how different they are from what I am used to eating. For the price, it is a great value (comparable to Little Serow, but $10 cheaper, not nearly as spicy, and much larger portions).

Fun unique place
I would definitely come back here. The food was like nothing I ever had before and all the flavors were so good. Everything seemed so up scale but for the price I felt I got a steal. Would highly recommend it.

Maketto -- Not Hanoi House
We loved the adventure. I would highly recommend trying Maketto in its test-kitchen phase while it's there. Not everything was a "win", but we loved trying flavors we had never had before. And the service was excellent.

Amazing food, great price, highly recommended! Can't wait till they open their own spot on H st!

Fun new experiment
Excellent food in an awkward space, they could probably use a few new dessert recipes!

It was really delicious and
It was really delicious and just a really fun experience. we were there for the pop-up, Mekkato maybe? Sorry the name is escaping me but we loved it. the price was really reasonable for the amount of food we got. the dessert was terrible but I don't really care about dessert so it didn't tarnish my experience at all. The soup was ridiculously good.

We had an amazing meal. The tasting menu was a right combination of spicy and exciting flavors. Dim sun cart was a gem - we can now take duck tongues off of our list of things to try.

One of the better meals out that we have had this year. A variety of flavors and spice levels elevated this Southeast Asian meal beyond the usual one-note dishes at other places.

Plenty here for the adventuresome
Plenty here for the adventuresome and the culinarily timid, with a range of food options served up during many courses or chosen from the dim sum cart. Personal favorites from the menu the Sat. night I visited were the Taiwanese style black rice cake -- a skillful play on flavors, textures, and striking visual presentation -- and the fermented tofu stir fry.
As is characteristic of Chefs Bruner-Yang and Wozniuk, the evening was all about hospitality and making sure diners left happy. Accommodating service, fun atmosphere, innovative creations in food and drink.
Delicious and affordable. Go now, go next week, go again when Maketto is settled in its new location.
It's a fresh addition to DC dining, a place to be surprised and delighted.

Amazing, amazing food
Every course was delicious! The charcuterie plate was out of this world! I can't wait to go back.

Maketto (at Hanoi House)
Maketto at Hanoi House is a hot mess. It's clearly experimental, and a laboratory for Eric Bruner Yang to work out the palates and menus for Maketto on H Street. That he stopped by our table to ask us about our reactions to the food was great; but this is clearly a work in progress. Good progress. And an interesting experiment.

Worth flying into DC just to eat!
I've often told friends that DC has many good restaurants but none that really wow (unlike NYC, Vegas, New Orleans, or San Francisco). My experience at Maketta has totally changed my opinion on DC dining! This is the kind of restaurant I would say is worth flying into DC just to eat and then boarding a plane to go back home -it's that good! The food was interesting, flavorful, and presented beautifully. It's a 7 course tasting menu and all 7 courses were explained to us by the staff who told us what region we were sampling and what was in the dish. We went for my birthday and brought by 9yo daughter. They were really sweet with her and she devoured everything. You know it's good when you're 9yo orders 4 servings of duck hearts!

Good to Try Once
We went for the Maketto test kitchen. The food was decent but it was a one shot deal for me for sure. I gave it four stars because you get a lot of it for the money. The prix fixe is $30 for 7 courses.

Maketto Residency was awesome
I went to Hanoi house for the Maketto residency. It was 30 dollars for a 7 course asian dinner (there were vietnamese, cantonese and taiwanese dishes). So worth it! The food was really unique and delicious: the odd pancake and taiwanese fried chicken were amazing. Additionally, they have dim sum which is available for purchase (2-6 dollars a dish). The drinks were great. Definitely try to make it here before it's no longer there.

The Maketto pop-up experience was outstanding. The mix of flavors never before tasted was amazing.

Went for the Maketto pop-up, so I can't speak for the actual Hanoi House restaurant. Was a little skeptical since I find tasting menus to be hit or miss, and sometimes overhyped. But the food was fantastic and the variety of cuisines made for a very interesting dinner. Overall a great experience.

Chef Erik Bruner-Yang has
Chef Erik Bruner-Yang has put together a menu comprised of asian fare from many sources. The servers, hostess, chef, and bartender all presented the menu items with a depth of understanding replete with historical and regional references. Dope!!! There didn't seem to be a hierachy; with each member of the staff filling water glasses, folding napkins, checking on guests and pushing the dim sum cart. Catch this experience before they move to H street if you can, if you can't make sure you know how to catch the X2 if you don't drive or don't want the parking hassle and enjoy what they have to offer.

Fun and Yummy
We never fo to DC (live in Stafford VA) however Makettos was recommended by a coworker and we took the chance. The 1+ hour trip each way was worth it. The atmosphere was fun, young and romantic. The food was very good. We went there VERY hungary and left VERY satisfied. Menu was great as was the dim aum cart. We opted for both Thai supplement items and those were our favorites!!! Looking forward to coning back to DC when Makettos open their permanent location.

Maketto Restaurant Test Kitchen
Hanoi House sponsored the Maketto Test Kitchen at their restaurant. This fixed menu, seven course dining adventure was incredible. Food was exceptional, service was attentive and friendly. Hands down a great dining experience. Looking forward to them opening their permanent restaurant on H Street NE later this Fall.
