Great food and service
I went with a couple of close friends to Jonathan's during restaurant week. In addition to the set-price menu we also ordered an appetizer and a dessert to share. The special appetizer we ordered was pork fat fried with bourbon mayonnaise. It was amazing. The hot brown scallops were the highlight of the meal, although it was all great. The service was excellent as well. Our server was very knowledgeable and let us know about each item when it came out. I love that Kentucky specialties were combined with high-class food. I will definitely be back!

Took my wife for our anniversary. Had heard some about this place. Overwhelmed by how nice and classy it was. They didn't sit tables on top of us and gave us privacy. Great server. Great wine list. Food was top of the line. Highly recommend for a romantic dinner.

Excellent service and food.
Excellent service and food. Parking is available which is great for the area.

Dining here was an excellent choice for a Birthday Lunch. The service was outstanding. I am celiac and I was so pleased with
the accommodations to help me with my diet. I will certainly go back and bring others with me. Loved it!!!

This beautiful restaurant needs to be on your list. Set in an historic inn, it carries tons of class and style. We sat at the bar (our preferred seating) and were well pleased with the recommendations we received from the barkeeper for food and for wine. We booked a party there before we left and are anxious for our return.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service and the food were exceptional! The wine list and the Bourbon list were phenomenal.

Jonathan at Gratz is outstanding
This is one of the best, if not THE best dining experience in Lexington! Every food item that our party of three experienced was creative and delicious, and the service was superb. Definitely going back!

Dining in the bar
The bar is my favorite place to dine if you have a party of 4 or less. We had concert tickets and the staff was aware and responsive.
Jonathan made one of the best vegetarian dishes two of us had ever eaten.
Good wine list with very reasonable pricing. Worth a trip from Louisville, event if we are not going to Keenland or to see a concert.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friend had a special - salad with scallops with quinoa and other details I don't remember. The scallops were excellent! I had the menu smoked salmon salad and the combination of its flavor with the dressing and all was delicious. Parking is convenient off Second Street and there is a pretty little seating area in the center of the driveway, that we enjoyed for a few minutes after lunch.

Excellent food. Menu didn't
Excellent food. Menu didn't quite match the presentation. Very nice selection of wines by the glass, half bottle and full bottle all reasonably priced. We were looking for a quality restaurant that served local fare and Jonathan's hit the mark. Highly recommend it.
8/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
We brought family members here for lunch. The food and service were wonderful...highly recommend the chicken salad plate and the hot brown is the best I've ever had. We'll be coming back for dinner.

Jonathan never disappoints!
We love dining at Jonathan at Gratz Park because we know we will have a marvelous meal, wine and company.

Everything was good except
Everything was good except the seating. We were put in the bar area. Too much like watching a ball game and having a beer with friends rather than a nice night out with my spouse. Tables crowded together and we were able to hear all conversations around us.

On our Annual trip to Bardstown we always stop at Jonathan's for lunch. Once again a great meal. The soup special was a roasted peeper which my husband loved. It was rich, creamy and bursting with flavor. His sandwich was like a French Dip and the meat was so tender and juicy no sauce was necessary. I of course never get past ordering the Pimento Cheese. It is a true test of Southern Cooking to make the perfect Pimento cheese. To our delight we had tickets to the Bourbon Festival Culinary Art Dinner and Jonathan was the guest Chef. It was wonderful to get to meet him in person and enjoy another one of his outstanding meals!

The food was worth the price.
The food was worth the price. It all was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and each course was surprising in taste. We will definitely go back. We shared the beer cheese grits fries, burgoo, the mozzarella salad, and makers salmon grilled on a plank. It was an experience eating there. The bar reminds me of living in NYC and finding an upscale hidden place to have a drink.

It's my favorite
Jonathan's is my favorite place to dine in all of Lexington! I have never eaten anything there that wasn't absolutely delicious! Also think the presentation is fantastic & I love the fact that he buys local & items on the menu are in season.
The outside patio is small, but cozy & I enjoy eating out there. Somehow don't much care for the atmosphere in the dining room. Always feel like I'm in a nursing home somehow. So we usually eat in the bar. Love the atmosphere there, but, of course, it is a tad loud. Especially if they are booked solid, which is often.

Authentic KY cuisine
We took an out-of-town guest to the restaurant, and he was extremely impressed with the variety of the food selections and the regional cuisine that was offered. Considering this individual travels globally quite a bit and frequents restaurants like this, we feel that Jonathan's stacks up quite favorably with top restaurants in larger cities. He especially loved the Hot Brown scallop appetizer.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
SUPERB!! Been many times. Was going to try somewhere new - couldn't find amenu that struck my fancy. Knew Jonathan's would satisfy so we returned.

Perfectly-Prepared Birthday Dinner
For our birthdays, my husband and I enjoyed dinner at Jonathan's. We started with a drink at the bar. I had a concoction of gin, sparkling wine, fresh OJ and elderflower liquer. My husband had a local IPA. We moved to the dining room for dinner, where we shared the country ham pot stickers and the macerated peach salad with cayenne brittle. Both were just wonderful. For our entrees, my husband had the ribeye which was butterflied into a tenderloin, which he said was perfectly cooked. I ordered the quinoa and pecan crusted flounder. The flounder tasted like it had just been caught, it was so fresh. The quinoa really added a marvelous texture to the mild fish. Our dinner was amazing from start to finish!

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Flowers that I ordered were on the table, service (mostly by Chris) was excellent, yet unobtrusive, and the dinners were wonderful. Chris helped us select an excellent wine, a bit over our usual budget for wine, but it was outstanding. All in all, the perfect evening. BTW, do try their version of Crème Brule (hint).

Dinner here was the dining highlight of my recent trip to Lexington. Exceptional in every way.

The entire evening was fantastic. Great service, excellent food, fabulous company.

We made the resv for the main dining area & got seated in the bar when we arrived. NOT APPRECIATED!!!

Sunday Dinner after Keenland
The service was great and the food was outstanding. We visit this restaurant every time we visit Lexington. We are particularly fond of the Hot Browns. Have also had one of the best trout dishes ever - pumkin encrusted. Never hesitate to recommend dinner here.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were in town for a conference and selected Jonathan to entertain clients based on the reviews. The wine list was adequate and fair, Chris did a great job describing the specials and local favorites. We will be back and will recommend to others
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is what fine dining is spposed to be. The menu had few choices, essentially one dish in each meat category, but each one was prepared with ingredients to perfectly compliment the dish. Each of us chose a different dish just so we could taste as much as we could. My snapper was grilled and served with roasted chestnuts and sweet potato gnocchi! What else can you NOT get at home! The steaks wrre magnificent as were the appetizers of beef carpaccio and scallops on little cloud puffs of heaven. Flaming creme brulee and homemade pineapple sorbet were perfect to end the meal. The wine list was one of the best we've seen... Jarvis served east of California! It was a pleasant surprise in Lexington.

Whiskey discussion with Jonathan
My wife and I were in town for a Kentucky ballgame and booked dinner at Jonathan's the Friday night before the game. After a delicious meal, I asked the waitress to see the 'extensive' bourbon list. After making my selection, a young man game out and told me they were out of the 21 year bourbon but had a 20 year bourbon from 2 adjacent barrels filled the same day and tapped 20 years later on the same day. The whiskey was delicious but the knowledge imparted during the discussion was priceless. Later the waitress asked if Jonathan came to our table. We were floored that the proprieter of the restaurant would take the time and interest to discuss high quality bourbons with us and add so much to our dining experience.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were seated at not the best table in the bar, but it was a fairly quiet night so it was not a problem. The service was prompt and the food was good, but it is over priced.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
LOVE THE CHEF'S MENU
The Five Lilies Soup is absolutely AMAZING. I turned down an offer for dinner elsewhere so I could return for a second night at the restaurant and order this delicious option. Wonderful service too!
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excels, and relaxed--very relaxed.
Our group of five had an excellent dinner. Our server was superb, and the restaurant happily accommodated an extra guest in our party. There's no more hospitable place in Lexington. The overall production was, however, time-consuming: three hours for dinner is about an hour too long. Jonathan's is my favorite place in Lexington, and I'll return. Just hope to get out a little sooner next time.

The seared scallop hot browns
The seared scallop hot browns are an amazing start to a great dinner of the salmon and pork chop.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been to Jonathan's manny times over the years. Each time the food, service, and ambience have been excellent. It gets a little noisy when the restaurant is full, but it is bearable. You will not be disappointed....

A great treat after Keeneland
I had read about this restaurant in Garden & Gun, twice. After a chilly fall day at Keeneland in which we left early, it was so very nice to come to such a cozy place.
The scallop hot brown is delicious!
I only wish they were in Cincinnati.

Relaxing bruch spot
Johnathan's Sunday brunch is delicious. In addition, they foster a quite, relaxing ambiance that is refreshing after a busy weekend.

Jonathan's Delivers on Food!
We had a birthday dinner for our daughter and it was an excellent experience. Our server was knowledgable and friendly.

Love the relaxed feel of this place. Excellent service ,friendly people and amassing food.

Always an outstanding dinner.
Nothing is ever a disappointment at Jonathan's. Always uses a lot of fresh local items from Kentucky that are always pleasing. Great wine list and great Ky. bourbon selection as well. Impeccable service.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent. I have been here only twice, and have come out happy both times.
price is on par with other nice resturants in lex. But here, you do feel that you received a meal worth the price.
The grits fries are still my favorite appetizer. And the sauce on the dusted beef was excellent. We licked our plates clean.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ordered a 50th birthday cake for our daughter. It was not there. Catamanda (Bakery) said they delivered it. It was not delievered to the restaurant but the hotel ajoining we think. Personally the front desk should know that a cake goes to a restaurant. The hostess was gracious about it and we ordered some chocolate tortes that worked very well. I do think I should be reimbursed for the cake and delievery fee as I DID NOT get the cake.
The food we had was excellent, hospitality excellent and we could not of had a better presentation of food and setting. Waiter and hostess were excellent.

A very memorable experience!
Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The food, from the wine & appetizers to the desserts were all excellent. The service was excellent too! They were very considerate on serving our food in an expedite manner since we had to catch the 7:00 show at Woodsongs.
All in all, a very memorable experience!

Jonathans food is outstanding
We have eaten at Jonathons many times and always have a great experience. The menu is creative and locally influenced, and all six of us found our food delicious and prepared perfectly. The folks always are happy to accomodate special requests. Highly recommend this local gem.

Very romantic atmosphere, service was fantastic from the moment we walked in the door. Wine and drink list had something for everyone, fantastic wine selection. Food was just what we expected, awesome from appetizer to entree. Didn't have room for desert but we wish we had. Will definitely return.

The food was delicious. We ate in the restaurant area, not the bar area. There were 2 larger tables that were noisy (as you might expect) so I'm sure its possible to hit it on a quieter night. Our server (a young lady) was fabulous--full of information and explanations and details. Parking is a bit challenging but we're used to that from NYC. Don't let that deter you! Try it out if you haven't and if you have, go back! If we lived in the area, rather than in NY, we'd go back for sure!

The food was excellent and our server did a superb job. Learned at the end he was a trainee and there is no way you would have known that otherwise.

Another excellent meal at Jonathans
A perfect dinner (ok, who can resist the fries in pork fat) for my wife's birthday
with gluten free options in abundance. Everyone was well pleased and left full.

A wonderful experience
Our recent trip to Jonathan was everything we expect from this Lexington gem. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. Service was helpful, attentive, and restrained. The menu offerings for the featured appetizer, soup, and salad were outstanding and showed Chef Lundy at his best: creative dishes that struck a perfect balance on the pallete and highlighted not only classic technique but also his unabashedly southern roots. The dress code of business casual is not enforced as multiple diners were present in jeans- many in this town feel that jeans and a windbreaker are appropriate dress for a fine dining establishment. Jonathan at Gratz Park delivered in taste, service, and ambience. A Lexington tradition that we will return to again and again.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent bourbon inventory. Server knew bourbon. Food was excellent - even went with dessert. Off street dedicated parking!

A must experience in Lexington!
Everyone was wonderfully helpful and pleasant from the gentleman who seated us to the waitress. The ambiance was wonderful, beautiful building and very clean. A little soft music in the background just loud enough to hear but not overwhelming. The waitress was super helpful in describing the wine and food selections and came around just enough to make sure we didn't need anything but not so often that it was bothersome. The food was outstanding. My wife had the pork medallions with blue cheese mashed potatoes and wilted spinich and she loved it. I had the pork chops with Kentucky slaw and mashed potatoes and it was super. I had the Ale-8-1 braised pork belly for an appetizer and it was a taste to rave about.
