The food here is unforgettable. I will definitely be coming back.

Hello Shalom Japan!
We went on one of the restaurant's first nights, and can't say enough good things. We went with our 9 month old baby, and a high chair was waiting at our table when we arrived. The servers were knowledgeable and attentive. When my son spilled some water, they took it in stride as part of serving families. And, the food was very tasty. We loved the Sweet and Sawa cocktail, the caraway and panko crusted lamb ribs and the challah bread and raisin butter. The pastrami-stuffed chicken was a big hit with both the parents and the baby. (He particularly liked the cabbage in the dish.) The restaurant is not in the standard Williamsburg strip, but definitely worth wandering out of your way for a unique meal and cocktail.

Love Shalom Japan!!!
Every dish I had was amazing! The stuff is great, very welcoming.
I love the chickpea tofu, that was fantastic.
And the name of the restaurant is just brilliant.
Congratulations on opening your restaurant. I will definitely come back and I live in Forest Hills but the trip is worth every bite.

The two chefs Sawa Okochi and Aaron Israel always impress! I'm glad they now have their own place to fully explore their talent.

INVENTIVE MENU AND ATTENTIVE STAFF
We ate at Shalom Japan on the last night of a major holiday weekend and therefore the restaurant was not too populated and was very quiet. It was not much of a barometer for what, I would imagine, a normal weekend night would be at this charming, friendly restaurant. The wait-staff were welcoming and attentive and the cocktail and food menus were inventive and quite delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who has an adventurous palate. I look forward to my return visit to Shalom Japan!

Good times in bk
I was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of everything. There wasn't much surrounding the restaurant on the same street, but once inside I knew it was the streets gem. The experience was great and I have never enjoyed Israeli food as much. They have a great fusion style.

Creative food and lovely atmosphere
My boyfriend and I were SO excited to try Shalom Japan, and we loved everything about it! Drinks were great, and the food was creative. Our server took good care of us. We live in the neighborhood and will most certainly return!

A Special Treat
Menu is unlike anything I've seen or tasted before. A lot of different flavors in each dish, and they all just work together. The plates are definitely intended for sharing style--which is a good thing there are so many delicious things to try.

Cool concept! We loved the
Cool concept! We loved the matzah ball ramen, the lox rice bowl, the challah and the Aburaage (which tasted like Japanese pizza). Everything was a TOUCH too salty and a major miss for us was the chawanmushi, which had a strong smoked flavor and what tasted like liquified scallops. This is a really small space and we were seated right in front of the front door on a really cold evening, so we got a draft every time the door opened. I would go back but would request a table away from the door, especially during the winter months! Service was lovely, but I did have to track our waitress down to get our jackets at the end of our meal.

Lots of fun, delicious food, very nice space and feel to the room. I would definitely eat there again. We even parked in front of the restaurant. That said, 6 of us were seated at a table for 4, despite reservation made nearly one month earlier, pretty noisy, and the ramen that so many reviewers praised was not on the menu.

Innovation thru creation
They just nail each dish and make it delicious
From start to end including great chala.

Shalom serves inventive, carefully prepared, beautifully plated food that offers surprising combinations and tastes as good as it looks. We tried most of the dishes and all were delicious. The fish and vegetables all seemed very fresh and of the highest quality. Some of the appetizers are small, in the Japanese tradition, but so worth it. Order several and take your time as they are served one by one.
Though the restaurant had only been open for a couple of weeks, it was completely packed, the service seemed up to speed, and the staff really knew their wines already. It is cozy inside but has ambience. While the bar crowd gets noisy, it is still a great date restaurant IMO. We can't wait to go back!

Limited menu, small plates
Limited menu, small plates made for sharing. Everything was was very good and we had almost everything on the menu!
Service was the best we've experienced in awhile. Truly informative, and welcoming. Tried a interesting wine from Serbia we never would have experienced We are still thinking about the lamb ribs and chicken stuffed with pastrami! Hope they do a brunch with the great homemade challah. Strange combination of two very different cuisines that really works. Worth a try!

Amazing, my husband and I
Amazing, my husband and I were in town for his birthday. He can be tough to please, most places are "ehhhh" in his book. He ADORED this place: food, drinks, dessert, service, everything! Fusion restaurants can be a recipe for disaster (pardon the pun) but this place was unbelievable.
