Welcome to the neighborhood
Happy to have Kurah in the South Loop. Interesting menu with a very nice space.

Great Ambience and Service
We tried this restaurant a few days after it opened and were not disappointed! Great cold and hot tapas, excellent service and a wonderful atmosphere. The hummus, tabouli, falafel and ceviche were great! The drinks - I had The Fig martini and a Mediterranean Mojito - were very good as well! I would definitely recommend Kurah for a relaxing, romantic dinner.

Great new restaurant with shared plates, eclectic food choice, friendly hard working staff

Good food. Fair service.
Waitress had not been properly trained. She was nervous so it wasn't a big deal. Food awesome! Will return.

Great addition to the South Loop!
Tried Kurah for the first time on 8/2/13. We live in the South Loop and were excited for their opening. We had dinner with a couple of friends and everyone had great things to say. They have a pretty large drink menu with plenty of selection. The cocktails we had were unique and very tasty. We stuck to the tapas portion of the menu even though they had several good sounding entrees. Our meal was delicious and we will definitely be back.

Welcome to the South Loop
Six of us dined at Kurah on last Fri. night. All of the things we tried were outstanding and a step up from the usual mediterranean food. This chef knows his art. This was two nights after their official opening and while there were a few hiccups in the service, they made up for it without being asked. I almost hate to write a review, because once the word is out, it will be hard to get a reservation. Yes, it is that good! Hurrah for Kurah!

We visited on their 3rd day
We visited on their 3rd day open. Unique tabus food. They were serving a bit too quickly at first but once we asked to slow down they did a great job.

Great new restaurant in the Sloop
I went to Kurah for the first time this week with a few girlfriends. The service was great & so was the food. My favorite was the bacon wrapped dates and the grape leaves. I also really enjoyed the chicken shwarma. I will say I was not overly impressed with the hummus. Overall a good expericence & I will definitely be back.

What a wonderful dining experience was had by all six of us. We were so presently surprised by dish after dish, morsel after morsel of excellently prepared food, great service and the VIP room....

Excellent meal in a lovely setting
Hands down, the best hummus ever. Baba ganoush is light and flavorful, presented beautifully. Everything we ordered was delicious and pretty. Highly recommend biryani and Colorado lamb rack. Desserts equally interesting and yummy. I was especially fond of the fig and pistachio "purse." This will become a regular.

My grandparents live in the middle east so stuffed grape leaves are a delight to see on the menu. They are not as good as my grandma's but they as close to authentic as it gets! my friend and i love our dinner, the lamb shank was wonderful. I was very impressed and pleased. The only note i have to make it when the Manhattan's Kurah serves are Old Fashions. there's nothing wrong with a good old fashion, it's my 2nd favorite drink next to a Manhattan, but do put that on the menu. I live a block and a half away so i will be back!

Fantastic flavors, great service
We had a wonderful dinner at Kurah. Truly the best Mediterranean / middle eastern food we've had. The outdoor patio is very pleasant. The wait staff very helpful and friendly (thank you Mari!). They have a unique selection of wines and we really enjoyed a white and red from Croatia recommended by the manager. The food is beautifully prepared, very fresh and high quality vegetables and love the flavors. Baba ganoush is a must for garlic lovers. We also had the bacon wrapped dates, spinach pie, fried vegetables, lamb shank, kifta kabob, and kubah tripoli .
Also served is hot Pita, olive oil and za'atar a wonderful spice mix to dip your pita. If you love fresh, flavorful food you will love this place!

Great Gastro Gem in the S. Loop
Food was extremely tasty. We ordered a lot of the veggie options - Falafel, Hummus, Zatar Fingerlings, Flatbread. All of which were very flavorful. The Syrah was very smooth.
Can't wait to come back.

I would highly recommend eating at Kurah. I went with 4 adults and 2 infants and they were very accommodating to our group. This restaurants could serve as a family friendly spot or date night spot. The ambiance inside was dimmed lighting, great furniture and intimate seating. It did not seem like you were sitting on top of the people next to you. We sat outside and our waiter was great. We shared all of our items ordered and they were fantastic. Everything was delicious- bacon wrapped dates, falafels, and Beef/lamb swarma were my top 3 favorites. They also serve warm pita with olive, season, and olives. The beer and wine list also have some great choices and they have a variety of beer choices on tap.

The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff was attentive and helpful with menu selections. The classic Mediterranean choices were spot on, and the bacon wrapped dates I am still dreaming about. I also ordered a grapefruit muddled cocktail that was tart and bright with a burst of fresh mint- delicious! The pita bread was not handmade by grandma, but one can't have everything. It was an outstanding meal and I will come back on my next trip to Chicago. Kurah is a keeper.

This was our first time at Kurah (my son and I) and we were really impressed and satisfied. We live in the city, in the neighborhood, and eat out often all over the city. This was quite a treat and the food was perfect and very healthily cooked. We left feeling like we found something special. Prices were very nice and the service was great. We will be regulars.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was outstanding and our server Mari was fantastic. She made several recommendations from the menu that made for a very pleasurable dinning experience. We will definitely be back to try the other items on the menu!

Based on its positive reviews, I made a last minute reservation at Kurah for a party of eight. Much to my surprise, we were accommodated with a lovely table in a semi-private room and very nice ambiance! The food was delicious (especially the fava bean spread) and reasonably priced. The service was very good, but it was obvious the staff was not yet fully experienced in the art of serving. Kurah is definitely a South Loop gem that I plan on visiting again really soon.

Hurrah for Kurah
Excellent food, large portions for tapas style dining. Really delicious.

Very, very good!
We had a great experience at Kurah. Lovely atmosphere, outstanding service, and delicious food. It was a little pricey for the food we got (very fresh, but still standard middle eastern fare), but the presentation and ambiance made it worthwhile.
I had a martini (fig) which was wonderful, and the wine list is excellent as well.
We will certainly return!

Tapas style w/Interesting Flavors
A good combination of flavors at Kurah. Complimentary warm pita bread, olive oil, spices and olives are served up to your table immediately, adding a nice touch. It's a tapas style and the portion sizes are fair to share. If you have an allergy to certain spices they do try to work with you as much as possible on finding good options but they do pre-marinate most of the meat, I was able to have the Salmon without issue. Overall a great flavorful meal, fair pricing and a full belly when you leave. Knowledgeable and friendly servers as well!

Mediterranean Tapas, Great Price!
I have dined at the restaurant twice in a span of two weeks, once with my guy friends and the other with my wife and her siblings . Both times we had four people at the table and sat upstairs. The food was absolutely delicious; I recommend the bacon wrapped dates and Falafel, and the Salmon. The wine list, while not extensive, is impressive. The ambiance is warm and inviting with very low noise level (the bar can get a bit noisy if you are there later in the evening after 9pm on a weekend). The waiters both times were nice and responsive. The price points for the food were pretty good as well! This makes Kurah a great place for dinner for two or with friends.

We've eaten there twice in the past 3 months. Both times it was a very positive experience. We had the same server and a group of 6 and 7 each time. The waitstaff is highly knowledgeable regarding the menu. And the food is fabulous. I especially loved the falafel both times.

We were in town for a convention, staying near McCormick Place, so this was walkable for us and it got good reviews, so we tried it. We had some friends drive down from Milwaukee to meet us for dinner, and they are food and wine aficionados, so we knew we had to pick an interesting place. This did not disappoint. Other than not having a couple of wines we had chosen from their not huge wine list, we were pleased with the food and wine we had. Fun to go with a few people and order lots of different things.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything we ate was fabulous, as were the drinks. Be sure to try the feta cheese stuffed dates, wrapped in bacon. Yum!!!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friend and I went to Kurah to catch up on the news after not getting together in months. We sat upstairs and that was delightful. The Ceviche was superb and I really enjoyed the Lebanese Rose wine they offered. Every time I've been to Kurah I've had different food and everything has always been perfectly spiced.

Great food; great wine; perfect
Great food; great wine; perfect ambience. The top level cozy dining spots feel like you're tucked in a verandah of a cozy home by the (medittaranean) sea. The fresh baked pita paired with the olives was heavenly....ONLY to to be outdoen by, IMO Kurah's masterpiece - the rose infused falb with figs and pistachios....Definitely headed back again - next time for the lamb :)

We discovered this restaurant online and was in our neighborhood so decided to give it a try. Wow! We weren't disappointed. The service was wonderful and the food was great! The home-made pita bread that was brought to the table with the olives is incredible! We ate more than we intended but it was difficult to stop - it was really wonderful! We ordered a couple small plates (dolmades and caramelized onion and spinach pie) and shared the lamb and beef shawarma. Everything was absolutely delicious and a step up from other mediterranean food we have had and love! We will definitely return to try everything on the menu!
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food at this restaurant is delicious and varied, a fusion of Mediterranean-inspired, particularly Lebanese, cuisine. The food is served tapas style and three of us ordered 4 small plates, plus one entree dish to share, which was a superb lamb shank. Dessert was a flan flavored with rose water. Everything we tried was delicious, subtly flavored, and beautifully presented. The waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and guided our selections. The decor is sumptuous and colorful. The restaurant did seem a little cramped, although we did dine on a Friday evening. All three of us agreed we had a fabulous dining experience and would return for more!

This restaurant is really great. The food was awesome and the drinks were really excellent. We had a fantastic server who really made the night really enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant!!

Fun tapas spot
This was our first time here. The décor is attractive, and the seats are comfortable. Our server was very good, describing unfamiliar items on the menu and giving prompt service. We enjoyed the food and the portions were good sized. The only negative was with the hostess. We arrived 10 minutes before our 6:45 reservation and she tried to give us the worst seat in the place -- right in front of the door. And this was after we commented on how chilly it was when the door opened. There were 4 other open tables, but she said they were "reserved" -- so was ours! We had to be rather insistent before she gave in, and my husband was ready to leave before we sat in the draft by the door. Gave a bad start to the night, and was unnecessary.

Kurah takes mediterranean food to a new level. Everything is prepared on site, including the warm pita bread fresh from the oven. We have been there four times and enjoyed every meal, as did our guests. Try the biryani. It is full of yummy goodness. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting with beautiful stenciled decor that seems to get prettier every time I visit. They were just put on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and they definitely deserve to be there. Do not leave without trying the hummus.

Wonderful food in a cozy atmosphere
Wonderful food in a cozy atmosphere. We were seated immediately for our reservation at a nice table upstairs. We were seated next to a large group of 15 and there was no problem with noise or feeling like you were forgotten by the server. Great find on the south loop!

This has become our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We took a friend there for her birthday and she wanted to return the next day. We waited a week. The food is well prepared We love the biryani and the kubbeh. It's fun to try and share the different tapas. We've enjoyed everything we've tried. The service is friendly and prompt. It's intimate and cozy. They also have a good wine list. Prices are moderate, so we don't have to wait for a special occasion to go.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
My friend and I came here for a nice meal and great wine. What I enjoyed most about this place is the adequate amount of assistance - they came to our table just the right amount, not too much or too little. I look forward to going back.
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
I stumbled upon this place just driving down Michigan and love Mediterranean food so I figured I'd give it a try. The menu is more than the traditional Mediterranean selection, which was a nice surprise. My husband and I tried a few dishes and each of them were simply delicious. The Kubbeh and Biryani were my favorites, and my husband had the braised lamb shank which, while very good, was just a little dry. This will be one of our new go-to spots for a good meal with a very nice atmosphere. The only drawback that we saw was that initially we were given a table near the door and there was a terrible and unbearable draft. They moved us to the second level and it was the extreme opposite- too hot! But overall, still a good place.

Fun find in the South Loop
We live in the area and have been wanting to try Kurah given others' recs. It was great! We went with another couple and all remarked on how great each dish was. We stuck with tapas and had a vegetarian with us, so most of our dishes were meatless. Our favorite was the red lentil soup. Most importantly, service was excellent. We talked for quite a while before ordering and our waitress checked in just enough to make sure she was there when we were ready, but did a nice job of not being intrusive. They were also very receptive and responsive to feedback (one cocktail - the mediterranean martini - we felt could use more olive juice. they added it and the drink was great). We will definitely go back and will bring others.
