Excellent menu in a warm,
Excellent menu in a warm, pleasant environment. The presentation was artistic. Those who ordered the sweet potato soup had it poured at the table. The scallops were some of the best I have ever eaten.
The waiter was stellar - fun, knowledgable and helpful - until it was time to settle the bill. We were a group of 8 and informed him prior to ordering that we needed the bill divided for business expenses. He acknowledged his ability to do so. When the checks came, they were wrong, he got frustrated and became unpleasant. It took almost one hour to settle it. Management did not appear to assist and an otherwise wonderful experience ended on a sour note.

We have gone to New Heights
We have gone to New Heights when we are in Washington, DC for the past twenty years (perhaps longer!) It is one of our favorite restaurants and has always been a great dining experience. I can't imagine coming to Washington, DC and not going to New Heights. The food is excellent, the service is wonderful, and we are welcomed as returning guests.

My wife and I have always enjoyed this restaurant and its variety offered in the menu; this is also an active Gin-bar scene with creations for all !

Many return diners; we now see why
Our first meal here will not be the last. The four-course prix fix dinner offerings and wine pairings were wonderfully satisfying. Heirloom root vegetable salad was lovely and refreshing. House-made fettuccine was one of the best dishes we've ever had anywhere (we've dined at terrific restaurants all over the the U.S. and Europe)--perfectly cooked, delicate pasta in light cream sauce, topped with an exquisite runny-yolk egg. The Spanish mackerel was delicious and well-prepared (the skin would have been better either crispy or omitted), and the serving size was just right for a third course entree. Husband loved his dessert mousse; my deconstructed apple pie was tasty. All the wines were well-chosen to complement each course.

Everything about New Heights was incredible. The service was prompt & attentive but not intrusive. The food was gorgeous and flavorful. The heirloom root veggie salad is not to be missed. The pan seared scallops with leeks and asparagus tasted fresh- and each component was cooked just to tenderness. I ended my meal with the pomegranate sorbet...the perfect ending. Everything was sooo good, I thought about returning in the morning for brunch- but will save that treat for another visit to DC. Convenient location, too. Cheers for New Heights!

Better than I expected
I began going to New Heights a couple of decades ago....heard it has gone through many changes. The gin menu and tonics are quite fun and delicious. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Most all of the dishes were called something like mousse, but ended up being something totally delightful and different! Totally enjoyable!!

Great service and great food
We were staying at the Marriott nearby and found new heights on open table and I am glad we did. We had some great gin and tonic's with home made tonic that were fantastic. The entree was fantastic. Desserts were ok but not amazing like the entree. Will be back on my next trip to DC

We celebrated a special occasion honoring a family member, and New Heights was the perfect place, beginning with a gracious welcome at the front door. It was a lovely and comfortable setting for dinner and conversation. We were pleased with all our selections from the menu -- really superb food and drink. Our waiter was knowledgeable and personable, and he and all the service staff were courteous and efficient. It was a perfect evening for us. This was our first visit, but it won't be our last. Our thanks to all at New Heights

Three of us had a lovely dinner
Three of us had a lovely dinner at New Heights the evening of the great deluge. New Heights has always been a beautiful restaurant filled with warm colors and fabulous wood furniture. Our dinners were excellent (wahoo and scallops), and the crispy oyster appetizer was to die for. All in all, an excellent evening. We also really appreciate the fact that New Heights is quiet enough that people can actually hold conversations while they are dining.

New Heights - Still Hits the Mark
I had not been to New Heights in a number of years and so was a bit anxious when I set up a dinner for a small group of folks staying at a nearby hotel. New Heights was "noveau American" back when that really was "new". It continues to hit the mark in that category. Every dish was both tasty and an experience, which is not always the case with cutting edge cuisine.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
New Heights is interesting
I have always liked New Heights. The food is exceptionally good and creative. ..forces the customer to take chances...in a nice way. I really like the Prix fixwith the gin pairings. The service is good, but I could kind of do without the pretentious attitude from one of the staff. the attitude doesn't make the food taste better.I appreciate the prompt service, the cheerfulness of some of the staff ( some are very welcoming and warm), the knowledge of the menu selections and preparations.
6/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Wonderful to be able to hear
The food is great, it is elegant and peaceful. These days what a gift to be able to have a decent conversation because of the low noise level.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Rather exotic cocktail selection with a special emphasis on Gin concoctions. When it comes to food, the chef is imaginative and skilled, and the dishes are artfully presented. The Scallops were delicious as was the Rack of Lamb. And particularly welcome was the service, attentive without being overbearing.
6/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
We ate dinner a bit early,
We ate dinner a bit early, before a play, so we had the dining room nearly to our selves. The noise level might me different if there were more people there. The service was excellent, the food was great and the view from the window can't be beaten. i should come back more often!

New Heights is usually our first choice. Last night we had fettuccine with 63 degree cooked egg. Rich and smooth. We also ordered the pork with red kidney beams and sauerkraut. Superb and cooked, as they said, "sous vide." The strawberry/rhubarb panacotta with basil was perfect for the end of the meal. We had mentioned it was our anniversary and out came to flutes of Prosecco. It was one of our best meals at New Heights. Service was superb as well.
7/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
I have patronized New Heights for twenty years and was pleased as always with the food and perfect service. Ask for Pam. However, this $400 night out was marred by New Heights reporting me as a no show. For foodies that use internet booking services and understand what no show means when it comes time to book your next table, I'm sure you will understand why I am perturbed.
7/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
We like New Heights for its relaxed atmosphere, outstanding service and its interesting menu; seems there's something for everyone to like, even love.

Service was excellent. This is definitely a "foodie" restaurant and fit for more refined palates. If you are not (like me), you will find it's a bit expensive for the meal/experience.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Every aspect of this dinner was simply spectacular. Each course was a standout. The bbq rib was a masterpiece. Lamb was "the best ever" according to a lamb lover. Wahoo was great, with just a perfect amount of smoke on the celeriac, was surprised with every bite to get that smoky sensation that never overpowered the perfectly cooked wahoo. Can't wait to enjoy more of Chef Takeshi's creations!

Have not been in ages
This is one of those restaurants that we have been too many times over the years.
But it had been quite a while since our last visit. And we found it to be a wonderful treat! How refreshing to be able to have a real conversation with your table mates and to have a trained wait staff take care of you. There are too few places like this to eat in DC. The only off note: the root vegetable salad was a bit bland. All else was very good.
It won't be as long until we come back again!

Lovely Restaurant - excellent food
Enjoyed my birthday dinner very much. The food was beautifully presented. Came at appropriate intervals. Owner was extremely friendly and attentive. Corrected a minor problem we had. Taste was very good. Atmosphere elegant but not stuffy.

This has always been one of
This has always been one of our favorite restaurants in DC but we had not been in a while so we were so pleased to find that this still remains as one of our favorites. The new chef is remarkable in his inventive presentations and his choice of menu items. The crispy oysters are some of the best and not to be missed as is the fettuccine appetizer. Save room for dessert as the fig cheesecake is heavenly as is the Chocolate coffee bombe! Service is friendly and extremely helpful in descriptions of menu and knowledgeable regarding the wine list. If you are a gin enthusiast then their "gin joint" menu will not disappoint. This was a wonderful dining experience and we will be sure to return again.

Another delicious meal
We took some New York food lovers to the New Heights and they shared our enthusiasm for the meal. A very adult restaurant, it avoids the normal pitfalls of "In" dining so common in today's restaurants. A fun combo of some southern and new york flavors!
9/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
New Heights accommodated to the vegans in our party with imagination and flair. They served three different dishes which we could share and the food was both delicious and beautifully presented. This was an anniversary dinner and the special care with which we were treated made truly a special occasion. Thank you, New Heights!

New Heights Lives Up to Its Name
We wanted a restaurant where we could have a real conversation (as in, hear each other!), with top-quality innovative food, good service, and at a reasonable price. We had all of that and more at New Heights. After an un-rushed, 3-hour meal, with invisible but attentive service, and course after course that delighted and inspired, we unanimously said we'd come back. This is a restaurant that understands the ritual of an unhurried sharing of good food and good conversation; it has bucked the trend of noisy, hectic dining pavilions where you walk away with your ears ringing. A gem!

Excellent food and service, attention to the detail. Warm welcome by the owners.
Outstanding Gin + home mad tonics list, great recommendations from the sever on how to pair the two. A real treat.
We will be back,...many times.

Oldie but Goodie
Started out with a cocktail at the bar where they make their own tonics. The bartender was fabulous as were the drinks! We then went upstairs to dine and had lots of great choices. Best fried green tomatoes I have eaten in the area ever and really enjoyed the heirloom tomato and burrata appetizer. It struck the right balance between tomatoes and burrata. The black cod was perfectly cooked too. The desserts creations were fabulous. Really New Heights is not a restaurant to be missed.

Wonderful from start to finish
I haven't enjoyed a meal so much in some time. Everything was luscious and melty in the most scrumptious way, from the burrata amuse bouche, to the amazing buttermilk biscuits in the bread basket, to the roast chicken breast over gnocchi, to the cheesecake dessert. And my gin and tonic was custom-built (after consults with the bartender and chef) to match my meal. I will definitely be back!

New Heights is one of our favorite restaurants. Service is always pleasant and attentive. The drinks, including wines allow for good choices. Tuesday night, however, was absolutely delightful. The 63* fettuccine with egg was a tasty teaser for the pork tenderloin sous vide. Cooked medium and medium-well, each was tender, flavorful, and downright superb with small chunks of sweet potato, a type of cabbage/sauerkraut, a few thinly crisped potatoes which were more like small, delicate chips, and perhaps small pieces of fig. My husband and I were satiated with the richness of the meal. Irish Coffee and cappuccinos rounded out the meal. What a meal!

Excellent food and service. Our server's recommendations were right on! Great girls nite out catching up with a college pal. Beet and feta salad was brilliant. Poached cod dish was delish and light even with black rice. Love this place!

Fantastic spot in Woodley Park--very good food, fantastic service, and best of all, quiet ambience where you can hear your date talk. Also appropriate for elderly parents who might have a hard time hearing. Excellent choice for special occasions. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful food and creative drinks
Not only was the food excellent but the portions were just right, not too large, and the cost was not outrageous. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the experience. The creative drinks, especially gin drinks, was very impressive.

OK but not as wonderful as expected
The food was nicely done but not exceptional. The service was earnest but a bit clumsy. For example, they brought the hot fettucine appetizers with poached egg, which three of us had ordered, several minutes *before* the cold appetizers that the others in the party had ordered. Consequently, the delicate hot appetizers were getting cold while we waited politely for other members of the party to be served. The server referred to one entree we ordered as "the vegetarian," and we had to figure out that he meant the pasta. Clearly the staff meant well and was attentive; just a bit ham-handed.
