We took my brother and his wife to Batifole for a special thank-you dinner. My husband asked our waiter to select some starters and mains, plus wine. Sooooo good. Soooo much fun. A truly memorable evening.

Good french food
It took us 8 years to go go back to Bartifole. Kicking ourselves for taking so long to do so.
We live in Cabbagetown and we decided this year that we have to try the restaurants in our area.
Cabbagetown/Riverdale is not considered the trendy area (as yet), so it never comes to mind for eating out.
Bartifole is in East Chinatown and you think what is a french restaurant doing in this area. I am glad it is there.
We made reservations for 4 persons on Sat. Most of the tables were full when we got there for 8pm.
Apps were $10, Mains were $20, sharing sides $6. We tried the Soup, Terrine and Pate Apps...excellent. The mains were Cassoulet, Steak and Duck confit..excellent. Sides were fries, baked potato casserole, greens...loved it.

Food was very good and the single waiter made every effort to accomodate all the customers in the restaurant.
Very nice ambience. The kids enjoyed the meal ,especially the creme bruleee and banana chocolate crepe desserts.
Husband had an excellent crepe salad appetizer. Our souffles were light and tasty.

Affordable exquisite French food
We really enjoyed our dinner at this charming French restaurant. You won't find any pretention here, only exquisite French food. Desserts were slightly disappointing but everything else (salad, warm bread, main courses and their to-do-for frites) was top-notch. We had the prix fixe "soufflés" which were delicious and perfectly prepared. The ambiance is clean and pleasant. It's perhaps short on "old world charm" one might associate with all things "France" but the space is bright and tastefully decorated. Patrons included couples (of various ages) on a romantic date, families with children and a group of older friends. Highly recommended. Would definitely go back.

Impressive, exceeded expectations
We went on a Thursday with our Living Social voucher, and it was for a souffle dinner. My wife, being allergic to eggs, had to go a la carte, and the server made a strong effort to accommodate that, even with our voucher. Our server was incredible to us all night, really.
Crab bisque: Hot, not too salty. Went well with the bread stick inside that had a generous amount of delicious cream on it. I'd order it again.
Cold tomato soup: I don't like cold soups generally, but this worked.
Crab souffle: Savory, soft. Nice to have a souffle main!
Cassoulet: Very healthy meat portions that were tasty.
Marmalade & Grand Marnier souffle dessert: orange, sugar, souffle. Delicious.

champagne taste, beer money!
what a find! classic French cuisine with a delightful twist; reasonable prices, charming décor and no tie required! The delicious food spoke for itself. Yummy. Waiter/host was charming and accommodating. will definitely be returning!

two staff only
On a Saturday night, there were only two staff (on the floor) for the restaurant, which had about twenty people in it--at first I thought the service would suffer, but they pulled it off. Our waiter knew the menu incredibly well, including the history of the dishes, he was friendly and came by regularly; the food was excellent.

We really enjoyed ourselves
We really enjoyed ourselves at dinner!
The food was delicious and the service was great!
It was fairly busy for the smaller cozy space that it is.. As it should be!
I'm glad my Living Social voucher allowed me to check Batifole out!!
I would definitely go back :)

A Gem in Chinatown East
The food and service were excellent. Great neighbourhood feel, cozy and inviting. The wine list is very extensive and well balanced. The feel is very French - from the prix fixe (souffle that night in three different varieties) to the list of appertif (Pernod is a great choice!) The cassoulet is a must! Just be sure you're hungry! Batifole is a must try ... Or a must go to again and again.

We went the Batifole for our anniversary. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. Very impressive wine list. And a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was wonderful for an intimate dinner.

Who knew there was a French restaurant in Gerrard's China Town. This was one of the best meals I have had in Toronto in years. There isn't a lot of choices on the menu but what we had was fantastic. I will go back.

Solid French restaurant in Chinatow
Very much appreciate having a neighbourhood French restaurant. The food is as authentic and well-preparedl as expected, the wine list is extensive with excellent variety. Very much appreciate the fact that it's possible to have a conversation without competing loud music. The decor inside (there's also a tiny patio) is a bit severe for my taste, could use a little warmth. Also, when a door is opened, there's a draft. Both waiter and owner were friendly and attentive, but service was a bit slow - they could use maybe one more staff - maybe they do on the weekend, we were there on a Wednesday.

I don't live in Toronto and thus eat out irregularly.
We had not been to Batifole for over a year (maybe 2) itis thus always great to fins a restaurant that preserves the standars and quality one had experienced previuosly. Super traditional food and a great wine list. What more can one ask?

A wonderful dining experience -- every morsel of food, right down to the delicious bread, was exquisite! It's been years since I ordered a souffle, and both the main course and the dessert souffles were like a reunion with a long-lost friend! Great service, reasonable noise level (even when the restaurant was packed), and nary a complaint from any of my dining companions, who are not shy about making any issues known. Look forward to returning soon.

Nice little restaurant
We visited Batifole recently with a voucher from Living Social. The food was very good and we liked the cozy atmosphere. Tables were a little tightly spaced for our preference meaning you frequently had the servers back side a little too close to you for comfort while they were serving the table next to you, but it is a small place so there's not much to be done for that. We enjoyed our visit and since we live nearby we will definitely return. Excellent soufflés and Creme brûlée! Not a low fat outing!

Excellent Food and Service
I went to Batifole for the second time this month. The food was amazing. The buckwheat crepe with goat cheese was a filling starter. The Duck Two Ways (breast and leg) was amazing. The waiter recommended a wine to go with my friends meals and they were very pleased. I'll be back.

Consistently good in a culinary wasteland, a much needed oasis on the East Side. Don't miss it.

Friendly, French, Fabulous
Nice to find an authentic, unpretentious, and really excellent French eatery in Toronto. The fish soup was as good as any we've had in the south of France, and similarly the cassoulet.

Delicious dishes with lovely presentation. The service was excellent!

First visit for spouse

Will be back for sure!
They call themselves "the best French restaurant in Chinatown", but I would say they are one of the best in the city. This place is a real gem in an unlikely setting, located at the very eastern edge of Chinatown on Gerrard Street East.. Food and service are outstanding. The menu is small but still manages to offer lots of choice. Portions are generous. For main courses my friend had the veal liver and I had the "duck two ways".....a duck leg confit with slices of tender duck breast over top, served with muscat grapes. Absolutely divine! The only negative is that the décor definitely needs some attention. The room feels quite bare and needs something to warm it up. Table coverings and more comfortable chairs would help a lot.

A taste of Paris in TO
This was a lovely spot to spend a romantic evening with your partner.
It reminded me of the simple but flavourful food we had in Paris.
The service was very good. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

We were there for dinner on a weekend. We chose this restaurant based on reviews here and we were not disappointed. Food and service were amazing! Menu was small but with good varieties. Both the presentation and the taste were excellent. Portion was just right. We had a wonderful evening. Will definitely go back.

A local gem
Quiet, nice ambiance, excellent food and service, and a fantastic wine list. Why go downtown when I have this that so happens to be close to my home.

Friendly Ambience and Great Food
Came here on a Tuesday night so it was quiet. Food was delicious. The Quinoa and Lentil salad with Pork Belly was huge for and appetizer. The duck confit was delicious as well.

Hidden Bistro on Gerrard East
Batofole is a charming bistro.
The menu is an homage to the traditional food of France, but with wonderful innovations. For Example: Cassoulette d'Escargot a ma Façon is a savoury stew that bathes the escargots in amazing flavours. It was so good I wanted another for desert.
The service was surprisingly informal, but excellent. They went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable on a cold autumn night.
This place is definitely on my must revisit list.

Everything was done well. The service was friendly and efficient and extremely accommodating, the food outstanding. Will definitely come back and bring friends !An excellent evening. This will become our go to restaurant - celebrations, guests in town or just a night out! Thankyou for a wonderful evening to staff and chef.
