A big hit!!
This East Side branch of this Brasserie Cognac opened up and like a vacuum was turned on as soon as their doors opened, the people in the neighborhood flooded and filled the place immediately. The good news is the menu is diverse and the food and service is terrific. We have already booked another reservation and are looking forward to trying out the entire menu.

Finally on the East Side!
We have dined at Brasserie Cognac on Broadway many times and had always a wonderful experience. We are so glad to have a sister restaurant on the Upper East Side. Florian, the chef, does a great job. The menu is the same. The tuna tart is a signature dish, and everything else on the menu is delicious. The downstairs is nosier than the West Side, but the upstairs offers space for a quieter, more intimate dinner.

Welcome addition to UES restaurant scene. Very good, moderately priced bistro food. Good, attentive service and nice ambience. Just opened so time will tell how it fairs once it really "gets going".

New kid on the block
Very chic, neighborhood gem, with good food, fun atmosphere. Local powerhouses flocking to it in the first three weeks. Almost like being in Paris.

A worthy new UES contender
Cognac has taken over the space vacated by the somewhat formal and heavy Lumi, and It brings a lighter and less formal menu along with a buzzy vibe that suggests that the denizens of the East 60s and 70s are hungry for a good French bistro to match the profusion of Italian options in the neighborhhood. Try the cold gazpacho like tomato soup, the yummy halibut and the well-cooked lamb. The profiteroles are worth the calories. The noise level is high, however, and the decor a bit spare.

a new neighborhood gem
Cognac has a westside presence but this is the first eastside place they have opened and you would have thought it was Disneyland. I have never seen a restaurant open its doors and suck people in like a vacuum cleaner. But this place has been going and crowded since the minute it opened. The food is really good; the service is friendly and helpful but the noise is excrutiating. And it's not just too many people talking; the restaurant plays loud music all day long. We told them they should be playing soft French ballads instead of loud jazz. It will really be a shame if they don't turn it down because the kitchen is really good.

We were warmly welcomed by Bernard. He asked if we would like to dine upstairs or down. We chose upstairs which was a delight. The food was wonderful. The service was good. We are looking forward to returning to this restaurant.

Fabulous on the Upper East Side
Absolutely delicious food with a wonderful ambience. We sat outside and it was just delightful. Never went inside so can't speak to the interior. Definitely going back soon!!!

Getting its act together
This is the fourth or fifth time I have eaten here. They seem to be paying more attention to the service - they may have even hired a different wait staff. In any case, the service was much improved. The food is very good, although I would like to see more variety on the menu. We will be back.

Excellent food and service
After reading reviews I was nervous about dining here, but we were promptly seated, promptly attended to by a courteous waiter, and found the service friendly and attentive.
The food was great with some standouts.
The cheese souffle was to die for.
The goat cheese tart was great.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I loved this restaurant - and there aren't too many restaurants on my "best" list. The food, the service the atmoshpere were excellent. My friend and I had dinner here and we had a lovely evening. I highly recommend it.

We had lunch yesterday (Aug. 5) at Cognac. Unfortunately, they didn't show our reservation. Later I discovered they had it down for the wrong date. It was listed for Aug. 4 (Sunday).

Pleasant UpscaleNeighborhood Bistro
Very good food and service. This is a pleasant, upscale neighborhood bistro. It is a good venue for a business discussion.

great neighborhood addition
Enjoyed a very good omlette, the gougeries were doughy, Bulud's far superior, excellent coffee. Service needs to be tightened up, very pretty and comfortable space. Will return

I love Brasseries'
Brasseries are a wonderful concept in dining because one can eat a little or a lot according to your appetite. It's easy for a dieter, or a glutton.
The fries are outstanding, but if you want to eat less, the lobster salad is fine.
My most recent meal there was an early dinner, so I had a small cheese souffle with a little salad, which is one of the few things that I cannot cook myself...and it was superb. They also have a larger one.
That would be splendid, if you're hungrier.

Great new restaurant
Went there twice within 2 weeks, once for dinner once for lunch. Loved it and without out the attitude of the restaurant that was there prior. Great service, food, people watching and ambience. This will defintiely become my go to neighborhood spot.

OUR NEW PLACE
My husband and I have always wanted to have a place that would be "ours," and this is it!
From the minute we walked in , they had me!
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always liked this spot when it was Lumi's but Brasserie Cognac is also very good. It seems that more tables have been squeezed in to the space making it more noisy than it was. The food however is excellent and the service is friendly and efficient.

Fabulous Classic French Food
Everything we ordered was delicious and the waitress was charming and efficient. The only thing I didn't like was that when we arrived to the restaurant there was a crowd in front of the door and I had to wait about ten minutes before the hostess could even check my reservation. I think the restaurant should remove the table that is next to the hostess' desk so that patrons have space to wait and do not block the door.

A Perfect Brunch
We loved everything we ate at Cognac but what really made the day so special was our server, the wonderful Denise. She made a nice meal into something very special with her attentiveness, kindness, friendliness and overall willingness to provide us with everything we wanted and more. Cognac is wonderful but it will be even more so if you are lucky enough to get Denise as your server.

great food, wine list probs
We went to celebrate my son's birthday. The food was excellent but when we tried to order wine, they didn't have the first bottle which was $70. We tried another to order another one that was $85 and they couldn't find that one. Then they brought over a bottle for $110 and said "this is similar". We did not want to spend that much so said no, they oddly, they found the one for $85.
That said, when it came time to bring dessert, one of the waiters sang in the most amazing operatic voice. It was spectacular. We also had a very sweet waitress from Macedonia.
All in all, except for the wine, it was a great experience.

Love, France & Brasserie Cognac
I have to say that Brasserie Cognac East made our night very special and unforgettable. We felt like we are in France...Food was amazing, rich in flavor and very well balanced with the great selection of wines. Service was extraordinary and the manager Bernard was on the top of everything. Finished our french journey with their delicious White and Dark chocolate soufflé ( definitely the best in NYC ) and a glass of Ratafia di Champagne ... We had a little Cognac tasting as well.. Real French Experience! I highly recommend and will definitely come back

Very lively and packed. Noise level a bit high...we were sitting next to a party of ten. Best mussels I've ever! Attentive service despite the crowd. Will definitely return.

Lovely lunch with colleagues!
Having gone to Lumi, the previous restaurant at this location, for business lunches and dinners in the past, I decided to try Brasserie Cognac for a small lunch meeting. While I was a bit miffed by our original seating - the restaurant was basically empty and my colleague who arrived first was seated at a table at the very back, under a chilly air vent - the waitstaff were compliant with our request for another table and quite attentive throughout our meal. Our appetizers and meals which came quite promptly, though there was a bit of a wait for an oyster fork to go with my colleague's plate of oysters, everything was delicious. The restaurant was about half full by the time we finished, but relatively quiet. A satisfactory experience!

Delicious and Chic on the UES
Overall great dining experience. The owner(?) moved indoor tables to accommodate us outside, service was good patient and the food was fantastic!!! Highly recommend!

Great local find on UES
Food and service were excellent. Wine was expensive, especially by the glass $19 for a modest size glass of Sancerre seemed high. . Wine list was generic, you did not see the vineyard or vintage of the wine unless you ask. The waiter was very helpful in selecting an excellent Cotes de Rhone and offered us a taste of two wines to help us choose. I was impressed by that. Souffles are excellent. Lobster pasta was excellent and a half order was more than adequate. Overall, an outstanding dining experience. I think next time i would order just a cheese souffle which comes with a small frisee salad which was very good and ample for dinner. Chocolate soufflé for dessert with a pistachio sauce was fabulous!

This was a very good local restaurant, which will become a "regular" go to place for us!

Always good food and drink. Tuna tart is to die for! Noisy but not completely overwhelming. Great food makes up for the noise.

New Neighborhood Gem
This was our first time at BCE. We elected to dine upstairs which was relatively empty. I debated doing this because of potential concerns of being forgotten but our service could not have been more attentive. My wife started with the onion soup and thought the cheese was truly amazing and everything complimented each other quite well. I started with a plain green salad which was incredibly fresh and colorful. She had the lobster salad which was excellent and I had the roasted chicken which was outstanding. We will go back soon.

As always, Brasserie Cognac didn't fail us. Delicious food even though I didn't get to have my Tuna Tart today because my lunch partner doesn't like ginger - maybe tomorrow?!!!

Not your average local joint...
First time visitor...enjoyed the bar (pricey) perhaps too much as we sat past our reserve. time but host accommodated us when we finally were ready to eat...My partner had salad and a fish entre which she liked and I had two appetizers were more than enough for me as i'm not a big eater. We topped off w/a profiterole for desert.

Perfect neighborhood bistro
With it's cozy ambience, welcoming staff, and delicious, fairly-priced French food, Cognac is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Everyone should start their meal with a basket of warm gougeres--irresistible! The food ranges from bistro staples like Coque Au Vin, Onion Soupe, and superb Roast Chicken, to lighter fare like a refined vegetable lasagne w/truffled bechamel and an outstanding octopus salad with tapenade. The wine list includes many reasonable bottles. For dessert, you may be surprised to see a cookie plate on the menu, but order it;--you won't be sorry!
